[Q] for samsung fascinate/verizon user - Fascinate General

hi guys i am currently with tmobile right now and i own a tmobile G2 i am very disappointed with the G2 camera and have decide to switch phone and service to verison, several question i like to ask
1. does the fascinate record at constant 30fps even in low light?
2. does the flash work with the recording
3. is there froyo for the rom?
4. is flashing roms/kernel relatively easier on the fascinate? (using clockwork recoveries)
5.is it overclockable?
6.are you happy with it?
7. GPS issue?
8. this or the continuum? (i realize bias since im in fascinate forum)

All yes except for the froyo Rom

1 Not sure, sorry.
2 Not sure, sorry.
3 ... The best I can say is be patient, and try one of the great ROMs that are out now.
4 Piece of cake! And a pretty helpful dev community as long as you do your due diligence searching before you ask questions.
5 Kernels do exist. Some are crazy fast (voodoo). Some are just stupidfast(my personal favorite. No overclock necessary).
6 Very happy with it. For me it's fun/easy to tweak and there's no arguing it's one of the best pierces of hardware out there.
Also, I'm not sure if this affects your decision or not, but VZW is probably a fair amount more money than t-mo...
For your camera/corder questions you may get some good feedback from howardforums.com. I used to frequent there quite a bit(BadBen over there...), but came here to get more technical info.

thanks

no, no fm/am radio. you can download an internet radio option and of course there is always slacker radio, Pandora, or last FM.

[ROM LEAKED] Can we get the mytouch 4g build for HD2?

T-Mobile myTouch 4G aka HTC Glacier Shipped ROM Leaked
http://pocketnow.com/android/t-mobile-mytouch-4g-aka-htc-glacier-shipped-rom-leaked
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qRRDwj14S8&feature=player_embedded
My question is can we get a build for the hd2? Or are there still more things needed?
Could someone please explain to me why every time any phone with Android is released, that there are drones of people demanding developers who've put hours and hours on end of their own personal time into programming fixing and tweaking the current HD2 Android builds for no personal gain whatsoever, to devote more time and energy porting over a build that has almost no change in OS whatsoever?
I'd understand if a new phone came out with Android 2.3 or something, but all the phones being released lately aren't that much different from each other....
In the OP's defense he didn't demand anything he simply asked if it was possible and what it would take.. but your right about all the new phones OS being pretty similar.. that being said there is almost always something new in the OS when tmo drops a new android phone.. new mytouch is supposed to have a uma similar feature.. I guess we will see.

Okay then, in that case, I'd be interested in a port.
A large majority of people both in Europe and United States use T-Mobile.
What are the benefits?
TMOBILE DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE MYTOUCH SLIDE UI "ESPRESSO" BUT ITS RUNNING ANDROID 2.1. AND THE FUNNY THING IS THAT, THE UI ON THE MYTOUCH SLIDE HAD SKINS, LANDSCAPE SENSE, AND MULTITASKING IN THE NOTIFICATIONS WAY BEFORE THE "DESIRE HD" AND "DESIRE Z".
ALOT OF GOODIES IN THE PREVIOUS MYTOUCH (CAN APPLY LOCK WALLPAPER DIFFERENT FROM HOME WALLPAPER, THEMES, LANDSCAPE SENSE, MY FAVES GALLERY, MODE SWITCH BASE ON TIME OR LOCATION, GENIUS APP, APP PACK AND MORE). SO I AM VERY INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT THIS 2.2 VERSION OF THE MYTOUCH ROM PACKS

"similar" but not identical. For example, the processor (QSD8250 vs MSM8255) is different... Chipset might be different. radio manufacturer might be different, camera drivers mightbe different, etc etc etc.
But hey, they managed to plug in Desire Z and HD ROMs... Who knows!
If you can really use it

Completely agree... Whoever initiates this type of request should actually donate some money first, recommend others to do the same and then get someone interested to make a build if they want it... that way, build maker makes some $$$ and everyone is happy... even grannies don't give it for free...

Are all the builds currently being maintained sense based?

Which just proves you're not observant. ya they pretty much dont care about vanilla froyo and those that do are either old or autobuild , or are restricted to certain outdated kernels ... also cuz of this reason most cm versions will have touch screen lag issues and all the goodies that come with that , so basically if ya want a decent vanilla froyo experience hd2 isnt for u

Thank you for a coherent answer. Thats what I was starting to see about froyo. I have been updating my HyperDroid on my own but seem to have met my technical limit and am considering switching. Everything is great with it, but I'm considering whether or not I want the new camera. Another round of decisions I guess.

There was definite sarcasm, so I can apologize for that. Not at the level of some of the other people here get to. People have been getting extremely venomous and I was just trying to do a quick chuckle thing. Anyway, you should expect to see a lot more stock android builds soon because I'm sure there will be a flood of gingerbread options over the next few days.

[Q] Which ROM do I pick?

I haven't updated my ROM in a while, mainly because I don't have the time to. I was running Baked Snack 1.9, but now I want to upgrade to Gingerbread.
There are tons of ROMS in the development forum, and I'm not sure which one to pick. I'm not really concerned with how a ROM looks, since I'm going to load LauncherPro on there anyway.
So, here are the requirements that I have:
- Running Gingerbread
- 4G, GPS, both cameras supported
- Good battery life
- HDMI mirroring
- No FPS limit
- Preferably can run CIFS Manager
Is there anything else that I should be looking for??
Thanks in advance!

we don't all have the time for that. i could easily spend hours researching and trying them out, which is all time that my phone is half functional, but there are higher priorities on my plate.

OFFICIALLY CM7 says it supports 4G.
However, my experience with CM7 WiMax has been shoddy at best. If you move from a 4G area to a non-4G area then back, most of the time the 4G breaks and you must reboot your phone to reconnect. Even if you stay in a 4G area, sometimes the 4G simply drops out, and you are stuck with both 4G and 3G icons on the screen, once again having to reboot to restore the 4G. There are some work-arounds, but it's definitely not stable, even in RC3. Don't even get me started on trying to wireless tether via 4G on CM7, even if you are lucky enough to get it to connect, you get about 2-3Mbits down whereas on Sense with Wireless Tether for Root Users you get 5-6 Mbits down.
Very annoying.
Anyway, I've given up on CM until the 4G issues are ironed out. I'm not paying an extra $10 a month for 4G if it's not stable enough to use.
My recommendation is to hop over to a MikFroyo ROM. It's as stable an fast as I've seen with everything working. You can apply themes and mods to get the Gingerbread look you want while you wait with the rest of us for the EVO to get official 2.3 support.
Good luck and hope this helped!

there are tons of reasons to root, as you probably know. i would like to use CIFS manager, tether, and use HDMI mirroring.
i was not aware that the stock rom now has unlocked FPS, but this was why i went to a non-stock rom in the first place. but now that i've gone to non-stock, i find that they are faster and have better battery life than stock.
Very tru they are way better with way more options. Idk wat the cifs is. But as far as tether goes there is pda-net for stock. But imho half the fun of rooting is trying all the roms from all the fabulous devs here on xda. It really doesn't take to long to see if a particular Rom is for u. Especially if u have TB. Then if a Rom isn't for u just nand restore to ur old Rom and in my experience its about 20 mins to try it and restore if its not for you. Plus everyone will have their own opinion about a Rom so in order for u to kno which one is for u u gotta try it

I gotta stick up for the OP here a little bit. He's asking for our help, and that's not a helpful comment to ask him "Why root?"
Not having to pay $30 to tether your EVO to a PC was reason enough for me. Or to overclock. Or to theme it to the max. There are many reasons to root.
This is a community for people who want to make the most of their phones. That is why we root.
Please don't come to XDA and ask "Hurr durr why did you root if you're not gonna blah, blah."
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all, amirite?

Now I'm not trying to be rude. I see this same q on here all the time and ppl usually give their opinion about the Rom they like. Then proceed to say they need to try them to find the one they like. And op is saying he doesn't have time to do that. It's just odd to me that ppl go and root their phone then ask for others to tell them wat the best Rom is. And that's a subjective term. I agree that paying for tethering and all the other charges are bs but honestly if ur gonna root its cool to ask for ppls opinions about the "best" Rom but if u don't have time to try them y bother. So somebody says so and so Rom is the best then he trys it and hates it so y not just try them urself. Usually the op for the roms will tell u what works and not working

Sorry if I jumped the gun in assuming you were rude. As you can see, I've been lurking the forums for a few months, but today is my first time posting. I can understand if you get tired of "What's the best ROM?" threads, because you are right, the "best" ROM doesn't exist, only the best ROM for YOU.
Ya no worries. I lurked for a while too. Now I post rarely trying to help when I can but I'm just a guy loving all the devs great work. And if u want a custom Rom u should c which one u like. Nobody can tell u which Rom will b best for you. Unless u can't think/decide was best for you

Have a working SGS2

Hey Community,
Due to the company I work for being great. They have allowed me to borrow a working SGS2 for the night. So tonight I will be taking requests for anything people would like me to try out within reason. If you have a request post it or PM me
For anyone who has questions about my honesty (not that I'm totally offended hearing there's past issues) here are some photo's...

pics or it didn't happen.
no, but seriously. some non-marketing pics would be nice.

Gotta see pics. Folks don't want another masumali/hero yu situation
Get a piece of paper, write your forum name on it and take a photo with both the SGS2 and that paper on it. Then we're serious. Btw this is no offense but due to others claiming they had the phone when they didn't
If that's done then please try out the new Hubs that Samsung has integrated, then test the sound quality of the speakers AND if you connect good earphones.
Thx
why not make a video review and put it on youtube? Test the GPS
Please check if the browser render text on websites
if it is the retail or at least the android 2.3.3 version, please do a nenamark benchmark and test some heavy web pages with flash on the browser

Yep, I know. But there are different 'types' of pre production models. There are those from WMC that got Andoid 2.3.1 and you got newer types that run on Android 2.3.3.
So if you run a benchmark, the result would probably be low, because the software isn't fully optimized on your type/version.

ROMs for a N00b?

My wife has a VZW GTab 7, and I'd love to get something more stock Android on it; preferably Gingerbread (for the increased functionality). However, she's not a power user so I'd prefer something as bullet-proof as possible. I'd even be willing to keep it FroYo if stability on GB is an issue.
What would you guys think, from your experience, is the smoothest, fastest, most trouble free ROM?

You are correct. Do not flash GSM stuff on your CDMA device.
Right now there are a few GB options that oldmacnut has been working on, but if you wait just a little longer (a few days probably) he should have CM7 up for public consumption and it could change the answer to your question.

That's what I needed to know; thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a GSM ROM? Is there a way to get that to work on the VZW Tab?

Ah sorry my bad. Didn't spot that bit.

You are correct. Do not flash GSM stuff on your CDMA device.

I wouldn't count on oldmacnut releasing anything. He was caught red handed stealing credit for somebody eles releases (ie he rezipped somebody work and renamed it), after he was caught and his threads locked he acted like a little girl, threw a hissy fit and then deleted all his links.
Nevertheless his "leaked" GB rom for the Verizon Gtab is what I would recommend right now. Definitely better than running stock Froyo.
