What can I flash or what steps can I take to go from ice glacier 1.0.1 back to 2.2.1 but still keep my root? I erased my backup so I can't use that.

Is this the way? Or will this just give you apps and such?

this a stock nandroid backup, there is no GOOGLE ACCOUNT associated with this. if you find superuser is gone you will need to get it from the market, same with rommanager.just extract and put it in >clockworkmod>backup on sd, then boot into recovery and restore backup.
if you are having problems with corrupt files on youre sd then i suggest saving clockworkmod folder and reformat sd then add the folder back with this inside the backup folder.

So if anyone else has this question the stock backup will unroot the phone and you have to start over, although with visionary r14 it took about 30 seconds to root.

Hey I have 2.2.1 Android version and 2.3.340 Sytem version on my Droid X and I need some help. When I first rooted my X I very quickly uninstalled all the bloatware that I didn't want bc I didn't know that you could just keep it and rename it. Now I have Root Explorer and I have the capability of renaming files, but I'm missing a TON of bloatware. Do any of you guys have link directing me towards a place where I can download those missing files? Thanks!

Did you make a backup before you. Started your install spree
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Unfortunately, no. I'd already uninstalled a few apps before I made my first backup. Yeah, I know....stupid, right? Lol.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Lol I'm pretty new at all this but I'm sure you could find a stock rom and flash it on your dx. Search around. I'm sure your not the only
One whose done this. If not you can get the apks for em

I sent you a PM like 5 minutes after you posted this...
Check it?
Yes I recieved the pm. Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I've got the file now that has all the stock droid x apps on it. I tried to copy and paste the apps from my sd card to system/apps. Unfortunately that crashed my phone and I had to flash back to my backup ROM. What did I do wrong?

you cant just copy the files over.
you need the apk and the odex files
then you need to change the permissions to rw-r-r and install it
then you need to reboot
i would SBF and start over renaming them to bak or try a custom ROM thats 10x better than stock like apex, darkslide or if you prefer ASOP then Liberty.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what's sbf? Lol.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Oh, and after reading your helpful info on changing the permissions I still wasn't able to install some of the files. So, a few questions:
#1- What folder do I need the files to be in before I try to install the apps?
#2- Do the still end up in /system/app like all my other apps once I install them?
#3- Why would an app like for instance "friendfeed.apk" say "Aplication not installed" after I click on "install"? Bc that's what a lot of my apps are saying when I try to install them.
Please help! I'd rather install each of these apps 1 by 1, THEN rename them, instead of completely returning my phone to stock, customizing it (ringtones, apps, wallapapers), THEN rooting it again, installing the rest of the apps that I can't run without Superuser access, and THEN renaming all those files. Ugh, this is a pain in the butt. Please give me step by step instructions on how to do this (move "x" file and "y" file to folder "z", etc....). I'm a noob at this so I need it basic. Thanks!
Back up your contacts to your Google account and return your phone to stock. All your apps can be redownloaded from the "my apps" section of the market once you sign in w/ your Google account. Your contacts will also be resynced. It's a piece of cake. And rooting with z4root is so, so, so, easy.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ugh....I was trying to avoid returning it to stock. I've got all my ringtones and stuff customized. Is there no way to leave my phone as is and just put the files back on there?
Also, would just doing a factory data reset put all the stock apps back on there? Or do I have to do more?

I have a problem. I deleted a few apps that i can't seem to install or get back, even if i download the apks and such. So i was wondering, if someone provided me with their stock nandroid backup, would it work on my Evo? I tried flashing a stock ROM but it didnt work, with the files i needed still missing, and I'm desperate to just have a completely stock nandroid backup. Anyone have any idea about this?
You can't (or really shouldn't) use a nandroid from a different phone. Why didn't a flash of a stock rom work? What apps are you trying to install?
We're comin from a pure power source.
So you can't take the apk files and use ES file manager and set it to root priv and mount permissions and install the apks that way from your sd card.
You can restore nandroids from other phones but not recommended. I did it from my old phone to my new one.
To make it work.
1. Make nand of your phone
2. Make nand on phone you want to use
3. Copy nand files over the top of the nand made on your phone.
4. Restore nand on your phone with modified files.
make sure you don't backup wimax on the source phone.
I can't install Facebook for sense and HTC peep
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Wouldn't it be much faster to flash a new rom and start over? If not faster def. safer, less chance of screwing up Wimax
I've tried flashing stock rom and fresh rom, both times these apps didn't show up, and when I try to install just the apk, it just says "application not installed "

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You can easily delete wimax.img and remove its line from nandroid.md5 and you should be fine. As long as that img is gone, your wimax will be safe.
Find a copy of root explorer... using that, copy the apks that you want to your system>app folder ( your system will have to be mounted rewritable) once the apks are in place, change their permissions to resemble other apks in the folder... once you do that, reboot your phone
Use Amon RA recovery and uncheck wimax
Well, I went and deleted something off my phone that I probably shouldn't have deleted.
If someone would be so kind to use tibu and backup (BackupAssistanceClient) and send me the back up files, that would be awesome!!
I did try extracting the .apk and .odex from TBH's 2 part install and moving those two files to /system/apps, changing there permissions, and changing their owners and still nothing happened. Those two files are still not registering in my phone.
i am on rooted .596, just incase anyone was wondering
Why don't you just sbf to froyo and reinstall tbh 2 part? Or am I missing something simple that you need?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
yeah, its simple what i need. I just need someone to go into their TiBu and look for backupassistantclient, back it up, and send me the file. I dont feel like sbfing again.
I have no idea how to do that. Wish I could help. Can you google that and install?

TiBu is Titanium Backup. If you have TiBu, you can do this.
I have tb. I'm no pro but if you want to walk me through it I'll see what I can do.

thanks for offering to help. Someone else helped me before you. but i will still tell you how to do it.
All you have to do is open up TiBu and find what you want to back up. Back it up. Then you go to your sd card and go into the titanium backup folder. Find the file that you backed up and share it. you can share it via what ever options you have available.
I was wondering if renaming the folders that my clockwork backups are stored in would affect the files and make them unusable? For example, I wanted to rename my stock rom backup "stock rom" instead it being the date.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I have renamed backups before and they restore fine,
copy it
rename the copy to your "name"
restore
I used rom manager (manage and restore backups option) with a long hold to rename. More than likely you can rename it with your backup app?
hope that helps.
I don't know. I've renamed my clockwork backups before. Once because I thought it would be fine to rename it and the second time to confirm, and both times the back ups would not restore.

Copy it to a folder, then rename the folder and rar it that way you still have original name

In ROM manager, there is an option to manage backups and you can rename them there with no problems... I rename all backups as I am a crackflasher and flash anything that hit the boards!

Hey,
I was just wondering, is there a way to create a flashable ROM (.zip) from an existing backup??
I have used CWM Recovery to create a backup of a ROM that I'm using (BlackICE). It has been customized to an extreme point. Removed several system apps and pushed my own apps to the system. Now I want to save it as a flashable ROM so that others, specifically a few of my friends, could also use it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
You could download a ROM, then use the kitchen in the Chef Central section to add all if your stuff and remove the original developers stuff. That's the fastest way I know. I'm sure there is a better way.

Thanks. I know of that method, I was just wondering if it were possible to directly convert a backup to a ROM.
I'll keep searching. Thanks though =)

I've never tried but you may be able to open the backup and get the data from it

Root explorer will allow u to zip the archive and make it flashable.. just go to ur back up location, long press it, then hit zip this file.. it'll be saved to the speed software folder

Kinda slow with my responses but I tried that and although it did create a zip, I was unable to flash it because the file wasn't signed.
Another question comes to mind..
If I give my backup to someone else, will they be able to restore from it? By placing my backup folder into their /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ ??
Just curious =)

You could try toggling signature verification in CWM and then you should be able to flash..

Yes, that should work, as long as you have the same phones (mytouch4g). although, any texts or personal contact info will also restore to your friends phone

Greetings,
I made image files with dd command (boot.img, recover.img, system.img, etc.).
I zipped them, but when I wanted to flash them (usin toggling the signature), it requests an update file, which is not available.
(the phone is a bit different, Alcatel 918D)
I have been looking for the solution for 3 days with google.
Could anybody suggest?
Thanks,
Cappa.
