[Q] What app was that? - Epic 4G General

I've been playing around with several ROMs this week, and I remember on one of them there was a cool app already installed that allowed me to stream media from my desktop PC onto my Epic video player. I cannot remember the name of it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Are you talking about Allshare? It comes with the stock OS too, but you can stream video files from other servers to your phone.

I think so actually. But I don't see it in the market. How do I get it back?
Or is there something in the market that will do the same thing?

What ROM are you running now? I know a few ROMs have the option of installing the default apps additionally, like SyndicateRom and Quantum Rom... check the posts of the ROMs and they may have the addon zip file to install it

Ok, I'll check to see if they have it there. I wonder if just the apk is available anywhere.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

If its offered in the orig post of whatever rom you're running, but packaged in a bundle of stock apps, you could just open up the zip on ur computer (use 7zip), delete all of the ones u don't want, then close, save, copy to ur SD, then flash it in clockwork.

a quick little trick to get some nice apps that samsung only gives to i9000

heres a way to get a couple nice apps for free that samsung thinks the i9000 guys should have but not us (asphalt 5, krazy kart racing), theres also an updated version of task manager, and a few others that i wasnt interested in. if your using your stock build.prop file and open the samsung apps, it will show an updated version of our camera app but i have not updated it yet but i will report back when i do. but to get all the nice apps, you have to temporarily replace your build.prop file with the one ive attatched. also download the samsungapps.apk ive included and put it onto your sd card and install it. download the build.zip ive attached and extract the build.prop file to your desktop.
so now with root explorer, go to /system and long press and copy your build.prop file and paste it to your internal sd to back it up. long press again and rename it to build.prop.bak or whatever you want.
now put the build.prop that you got from me and put it on your sd card. now go back into root explorer, long press on the build.prop that you just put on the sd and copy it. now you want to paste it in /system and click yes to overwrite the one you have. reboot your phone. under settings- about phone there should be some of the version info changed and all that(thats all this does). now if you open the samsung app store that you installed you will see a few apps available for free. install what you want, then just delete your modded build.prop on your sd card(or save it to your pc or whatever in case they add some more stuff so you can do this again) rename your original build.prop.bak to what it is supposed to be(build.prop) and do the same-copy this file, paste it in /system to overwrite the modded one, reboot, and now your back to how you were just with some nice free games or whatever else you downloaded. everytime you switch between these files for downloading things from the samsung app store, go into applications, find the samsungappstore.apk and delete the data and cache so it will reset to your current version.
this is a long post but it takes less than 5 min.lol
you could also do this with adb but if you dont know how to use adb do it this way.
This is cool, I didn't really know what the build.prop file did, little things like this help me put the pieces together. I also notices that swype won't work with your build.prop file. Maybe why it won't work in ported i-9000 and vibrant roms that I've tried.
Also the proper version of asphalt is great. Hardware acceleration makes a difference. The lighting effects are much beyer than the version in the market.

really? i dont know how that file would affect anything like that, but either way that build.prop file is just so you can get the apps. i didnt try anything with it, just replaced it with my original as soon as i was done doing what i wanted with it after i messed with it.
ya and its were like the red headed step child to samsung compared to the i9000, but thats to be expected.

I tried your way, and the Asphalt5 app downloaded and installed, but when run, all it does is play the intro video. Does that app actually work for you. The Krazy Kart Racing App worked for me, but Asphalt5 just won't do it.
I updated camera firmware all seems well still.

You have to go to settings/applications/Samsung apps and autorize new application notification in I9000. When you are notified that the application is ready for you to install, you will be able to click and install. Please note asphalt is a huge file and will eat up a lot of download time. It is strongly recommend you use wi fi for asphalt and not packet notification.
What version is the task manager that is included in this? My phone has version 1.11
Also, any difference in the camera update?

The system was authorized for notification, the app did fully download through WiFi (all 70 MB of it), it did ask me to install, and I installed it successfully without incident (which is what my post already implied). It is shows up in the application list, but when I start it, there is a dialog box that pops up in the background and closes before I can read what it says. After this, all that starts is the intro video, which actually plays through the phone's movie player application. The game itself never launches. Have you actually spoofed your Captivate to be an i9000, downloaded Asphalt 5 through SamsungApps, and then run it successfully. If you have a market bought full version of the game, that doesn't count. I am thinking that this game has some additional security measures that prevent it from being launched.

yup, thats why i said in my original post just to use this for getting the apps, then switch back to your original. with the original, the samsung app store app will not let you download any of the good stuff. so just use this to get what samsung gives the i9000 users for free, and then switch back to your original.
lol does anyone have an origianl build.prop, i thought i backed it up and its gone.

Looking for "Files" app in one of the ROMs.

I loaded one of these ROMs and it had an amazing Files app that would allow me to go out and search my wiki Network for files on other computers. This was incredibly useful. I believe it was on fission. The problem is.... I need the Verizon Hotspot app that is Not on fission. Is there any way I could get the APk for the Files app?
Thanks in advance....
Matt
The files app you are talking about I am pretty sure is the motorola blur files app. The 3g app is also available on fission via the rom downloader along with the tether patches if you need those, so there are really 2 things you could do to get it:
If you prefer to use fission with it built in you can get the 3g app by:
1) re-install fission and the rom manager from their website
2) download and install the verizon 3g app and tether patches from the rom manager and install those
If you prefer to use another rom here is the Blur File Manager in a .zip. Just reboot recovery and install it as a .zip. No need to mount or anything as it will do that itself.
DISCLAIMER: I just pulled this file off my phone, so I have no idea if it will actually work or not (it may require missing libraries), you are downloading and using it at your own risk, but it should work.

About the new download folder in android 2.3.3

I just wanted to know what actually goes in this folder because when i download something music or files from the internet they don't go to the new download folder that is already on android 2.3.3 they go to my sd card. I just want to know how to use that folder because i would love to put all of my downloads in one area that i can quickly get too??
I don't think the stock download manager works in CM7. Every file I try to download completes, then says "Download Unsuccessful"

Ah! I was thinking it was my phone! Why do you think this is?
Native Android is built on the feeling (googles feeling not mine) that android does not need a file manager. When you flashed those older roms...there was never a file manager right? Always had to install third party... and in Froyo when CM finally put in that basic filemanager that basically went against googles unspoken belief that we should not need to be downloading thousands of megabytes of content.
There's a reason why there's no file manager in AOSP. On one hand you have the deterrent...(no file mgr) and you have the provocation (with file manager). We cause a lot more trubble with one than without. Its akin to giving a cool dude a big fat spliff and then saying..."don't smoke that ok?"
Download unsuccessfuls started with CM7. Its a gingerbread "bug" or is it a feature? Regardless of what Google has in mind....we at xda will just keep on keepin on! I would think that the download manager may be like a censor... "what's coming down in here..oh ****..its a freaking miui rom! No no no get outta here" and then it puts the gag on the dl. So we may need to find out for sure and silence or take the censor to the Hague and try it for war crimes. Or whatever.
If I download things through opera it works fine.

It works for me as long as I download from the stock browser. But I don't use the stock browser I use Dolphin mini. It's kind of useless to me. Is it up to the app developer to tie it to the download folder or do I have to do something to make it work correctly?

I'm also looking for some mods as I have just recently rooted my atrix as well.
So far I have done the Telstra mod --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049434&highlight=Telstra
although I found the thread a little overwhelming. I found a youtube video that walked me through it and now my download speed is 5280kbps and upload speed is 1210kbps!
An app that requires root that I downloaded today is pretty cool as well, its called Wireless Tether for Root in Market. Its free and it turns your phone into a wifi hotspot at the touch of a buton. Works great.
Well since you already took the plunge and rooted your phone, the very first thing I would suggest is to install CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143
It's not really that hard to install, and once you do install it, you can then create a back up of your entire phone (much more than Titanium backup). It's kind of like a creating a windows system image. That way if you mess anything up in the future, you can always restore to your backup that you made. Plus most mods, roms and themes are now using CWM for installation. Just follow the directions, ask if you get stuck, and read the thread, and you should be ok.
After that I would also suggest that you download Root explorer and SQLite Editor from the market; they come in handy.
If you get these apps, you can manually do the following (I always manually do my mods for the most part):
How about free mobile hotspot?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980636

Ok, you can download root explorer and SQLite Editor in the market, you just have to be rooted to use them.
Here are my instructions for enabling flash w/ Dolphin HD Browser. As stated above, you need to go to the dolphin browser setting and set user agent to desktop mode and set enable plugins (under advanced) to always.

You need to install Adobe Flash from the market first... probably was uninstalled during gingerbreak or flashing sbf.
1) Uninstall adobe flash
2) reboot for good measure
3) install a fresh adobe flash from the market
4) Follow the instructions in the post, replacing the correct flash file and making sure the stock one was either overwritten or deleted.

[FIX] For Evo's having problems with latest Flash 10.2 update (10.2.157.51)

I was one of the many Evo users who's flash video was killed after the last Flash Player update. After much searching, couldn't find a single thing on why so many of us were having this problem so decided to do a little tinkering.
In my phone, I found a 2nd "libflashplayer.so" file under \system\lib\ which was also a different size from the one under \data\data\com.adobe.flashplayer\lib.
It also remained there after completely uninstalling the current version of Flash.
Installed the latest update and confirmed it as not working
Renamed the \system\lib\ file to "libflashplayer.bak" and flash instantly worked again! Putting the file back to normal instantly broke flash again too.
Also tried replacing it with the copy from \data\ (since it was the latest version) and flash still works just fine and didn't revert back to the older file after a reboot.
So - If any of you also have problems with the latest 10.2.157.51 version of Flash Player - check your \system\lib\ folder for this file and either rename or replace it and see if it solves this for you too
(Note - Always backup stuff first, and I am not liable if you fry your phone. ^_^)
It never ceases to amaze me up buggy and poorly controlled Flash is.
Thanks man.
Interesting i just updated flash NOW after trying twice before only to find video playback broken and it seems like they fixed it themselves now it is works, without doing anything on my end lol - Thank anyhow though!
Now you know why Steve Jobs doesn't want to see flash on Iphone or Ipad.
By the way - thx for the info.
To be fair, this is less adobe's fault, and more HTC's fault for putting the libraries in a read only filesystem. Even that would be alright if that path didn't superscede the ones in /data. I've been doing this on my own phone for a while now, and it does fix a lot of problems with flash. I wish more devs would take care not to put market apps that are subject to frequent updates in /system anyways. It doesn't really save any space in the long run.

10.3 wasn't working for me either (I'm on the SprintLover's ROM), but after doing this, it works!
Thanks, OP!
I used ROOT EXPLORER to do this... thats the only program I know that works. it allows you to make the folder R/W instead of R/O then you can rename..
Im glad I found this.. now I am updates to 10.3 .. is there any difference in anything in 10.3 ?
Thanks! This fixed it on my EVO (running Fresh's 3.5.1 Froyo ROM), I used EStrongs file manager to make the necessary changes (you have to enable root options and mount system under settings first). Spent like half an hour trying to find a solution, since the search terms for the problem can be so generic ("Flash", "broken", "black box", etc. just returns a million different results).
WHY do some sites still say you need adobe flash when I go to them?? they worked with the old version.. could it be I have my browser agent set for desktop and the flash installed on the evo is reporting android?
My flash was also broken after the 10.2 (and 10.3) update. I used the method from the OP and it worked. Has anyone noticed though that after doing this fix if you have your "enable plugins" setting on your browser set to "on demand" that all flash content will say: "you need to update flash player to watch this video"? When the "enable plugins" setting is set to "always on" everything works flawlessly. I guess I should be happy that i got flash back at all but it kind of sucks because I like having my browser set to on demand so flash doesn't slow down my browsing experience.
At any rate big thanks to the OP
THANK YOU!!
This finally solved my problem, but in addition to renaming the libflashplayer.so file, I had to also rename libflashsnddec.so. Until I renamed the second file, Flash v10.3 kept giving me that blue Lego block with the question mark.
Thanks again!
Edit: Whoa...don't rename or delete libflashsnddec.so! Doing so causes both DolphinHD and the stock Android browser to abend on some websites (even simple ones like Amazon, etc.). I tried various combinations, uinstalls, reinstalls, clearing cache, backing out to an older version of 10.2 that worked previously, etc., and all ended up pointing to renaming/deleting libflashsnddec.so.
One question though. Would changing the .so to .bak affect when trying to update from the market? It worked like a charm by the way. Thanks.
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
Using that fix causes the stock browser and Dolphin Browser HD to abruptly close without even a Force Close warning.
I replaced the lib in /system/lib with the one from the latest Flash Player update and also placed the lib in /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib which was actually empty before I put the file there.
Edit: Nevermind. Got it. Removed the APK from /system/app and installed via Market. This placed the libs in the right folder and then I just copied them to /system/lib.
Edit 2: Alright, I'm trying to get this fix to work for my ROM so people don't have to do this manually.
So, I put the files in /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib so they get copied over when the ROM is flashed by the updater-script. However if I do this while the install_flash_player APK is present in /system/app, it seems to erase the contents of that folder causing Flash Player to not work again. I need to find a way to make it so the libs stay in /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib.
Any suggestions?
does your "new" flash lib file read
01 OCT 09 6.87 MB
I moved the file to the proper folder using r/o and root explorer, and rebooted
both files are in place, but I still get the blue ? mark on certain sites
