I read on FixYa that getting stuck in a loop on the second (android) boot screen can be caused, possibly/maybe/guessing/testing by running something from the SD card. I had my (native) wallpaper there, had just done it, and I got stuck in the android screen loop. Factory ROM 1.1 Tmo US.
I'm sure I installed some apps today, but nothing crazy functional, and tweaked some things. Day 2 for me. Just scoping out wallpapers, and bam.
I don't particularly want to do this again, so I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on the subject. I guess it's happened to at least a few people.
My FixYa post had something to say about leaving WM, possibly, in pursuit of something more reliable....
use ddms or do a logcat to see if there is a problem.
Sorry, day number 2
You might as well be speaking Swahili. I'll google around and find something, but in the future if you're offering help to a real pleeb, and one might find this post later, a link or something, or a translation of what you're talking about would be very helpful.
ddms
Uh, I'm still in the dark, too. ddms doesn't seem to find the device at all. I was operating the factory Tmo image, so I wasn't rooted or anything (funny thing, it wasn't the first thing I wanted to do with the phone). I haven't the foggiest idea how to get the unit properly connected to the PC, even. 2 days.
I do appreciate the tip. It will get me somewhere.
Not that it matters, but I already hard reset. I really didn't have anything on there I was going to keep (Locale settings, and I was sorry to lose the SMS's, but it wasn't that many). I was planning on flashing anyway.
Edit:
logcat Errors
05-23 02:50:31.243: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mouse1, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:50:31.343: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mouse0, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:50:31.373: ERROR/EventHub(48): could not get driver version for /dev/input/mice, Not a typewriter
05-23 02:56:22.423: ERROR/Uapi(148): Microphone Cannot Stop in Unknown State 3.
I'm putting my sim card back in my wizard for the night.... I"ll probably get the hard SPL and flash tomorrow.
Is there a way to identify hardware problems with this pile of tools?
ddms offers logcat viewing abilities. Your link was correct, you just have to run ddms from the tools folder of the SDK. If it doesn't find your device try installing the drivers (and make sure the phone is connected) if it still doesn't find it than there is nothing to do really.
To see a logcat without ddms try this in a command prompt
adb shell logcat -d V > adb.txt
Click to collapse
then open it in notepad
ddms
In my relatively limited experience, particularly with xda-dev, there never truly is "nothing to do." By doing nothing, what am I doing? Giving up and throwing the phone in the garbage? Pursuing & reinstalling the usb driver (which is what I did)? Should I be hearing something kinda like (less comfortable to say?),"I've never run into that, so I don't know what to do in that instance." IMHO, it's better to define that you don't know something; it highlights what you *do* know and makes it easier to see. I'm having a hard time figuring out what you're trying to tell me, unless what you're telling me is very open-ended. If it is, just say so.
So, I do appreciate being able to see what's going on with ddms, but in this instance, what am I looking for?
errors, warnings. Basically anything not in black text LOL
can you not try a factory wipe/reset
Try booting the phone up while pressing the home key, then press Alt+L to turn on the text display then alt +W to wipe the phone that should recover it.
You may need to change the SPL on the phone and do some other minor tweaks Read the rooting thread on here as it explains what i am trying to explain but makes it alot clearer.
or if you wanted to go down the root road then remove your sd card and got the appropriate sticked thread and download a rom i chose JeasusFreake's 1.5 ADP1 build. put the update.zip on the SD card with no other files and boot the phone up with home pressed down
Alt+ L
Alt+W
Alt+ S
and if you are going to use JeasusFreake's rom then download the HTC cupcake radio from http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
Hey guys, im having trouble rooting my G1, im really new to this, im stuck at the google sign on screen, i dont have my data plan anymore so no go on the log in, ive tried all sorts of things to get logged on to finish rooting, theres so many guides to rooting a G1, but before i did the dreaimg.nbh its said my phone build was DMD5, did i just **** up my phone, PLEASE HELP!!!
you haven't ****ed anything up. Go in to recovery, wipe and flash a different ROM that supports skipping immediate activation (I think it's only official ROMs from tmobile that require instant sign-in).
where can i find a rom to do that with?
I have the same problem too. If using a different rom is the solution, how am I going to be able to connect the sd card to my pc? It won't allow you to mount usb when your at the android tutorial.
i havent actually tried it, due to the fact that I havent wiped to install a new rom since CM5.0.7, but I saw an article recently that says there is a way to skip the google login process. according to the article, you touch the four corners of the screen in a clockwise rotation, starting from the top left and finishing at the bottom left, making sure to NOT tap the two buttons at the bottom when tapping the corners (the instructions said to tap the "corners" right above the buttons). supposedly, that allows you to skip the login process.
and no, this isnt a joke. I dont remember where exactly I found the article, but when I do, I'll link it here so that you can be sure this isnt BS.
EDIT: here's the link:
http://gizmodo.com/5585143/how-to-s...eed&utm_campaign=Feed:+gizmodo/full+(Gizmodo)
they show it being done with a nexus one, but feel free to test it on your G1. couldnt hurt, right?
So im sure most of you will say to stop being a noob n do a search. So ill begin by stating i have tried google and various forums with no success.
My problem is that i relapsed on xanax this weekend and on my way to the detox center my genius self decided to put a pin lock on my phone. Yes, go ahead and start the bashing on how i deserve it for being a pill popper. I went almost a year clean and **** happens so please just bare with me. anyways back to my problem(cell phone) so on my way to detox i put the pin. i get out today and to my surprise(sarcasm) i cant remember the PIN. I am currently rooted so i have some hope that i may be able to save my current data. There are alot of txt msgs i need and cant get to due to this problem. Its vital to my employment which i have to return to at 1pm pst. I'm lucky to be alive let alone still have my job so im looking for some help. Can anyone please help me???
If this is even remotely true, I can honestly say you will get zero help on this forum relating to a pin to unlock a phone. I have seen one of these threads a while ago and it didn't go well.
There is no way to bypass the pin, that's the whole point of a pin, so nobody else can access your phone.
If you are rooted though, you can just boot into recovery and flash a previous nandroid backup.
Congrats, you are rooted! problem solved.
Boot into recovery, copy contents of SD or whatever to whatever or wherever and your golden. Thank god you are rooted and welcome to the forum!
OR
Now take the cell to the store and tell the man (or woman) you found a cell or grabbed it out of a window that just happened to be opened, hand it to them and they will say thanks and you walk out feeling just a tad bit happier.
Peace!
Just take "your" phone to your carrier and tell them your story. If you can validate that it's your phone they should be able to wipe it for you.
If you get the pin wrong enough times, it should ask you for your Google login information. If it is indeed your phone, you should know that information. If not, you should be able to reset your password.
I'm going to assume your story is true, and if it is, **** happens. It took me multiple detox centers, 28 day programs, intensive outpatient and quite a few relapses before I got clean on my own a little over two years ago. Different drug of choice, but same exact bs.
If your story isn't true, turn the phone into a Sprint store. They'll be able to get it to the right person.

There is really no way to get back into your phone that I know of, other than wiping your user data. The pin cannot be reset, but can only be erased with the rest of your data.

If you input the wrong PIN enough times, it will ask you to put in your Google account information
There is a adb command u can put in to wipe ur pin number out. Don't have it on hand but if u Google adb commands u might be able to find it
Brief history. My wife has a G1 and apparently she has not been able to download apps for sometime now. When she took it to Tmobile for them to check out, they said,"you must have downloaded a corrupt app from the market, we're sorry, but we can't fix it. Meanwhile, she was not allowing me to root it, and possibly finding a solution. So now, we got her an HTC sensation, so I can have her phone to play with. My quest is to fix the phone to prove to my wife that I know more than your local Tmobile rep. With that being said,"What do I do?" JK I know where to start, I just wanted to know if there is any relationship between the G1 and this corrupt market issues as I spent most of my time in the Thunderbolt forum. Thanks in advance.
do you want to root it? or just wipe it out? you can do many different things.. not sure what the relation is with your market not working

Root and wipe, basically just make it right again and to show my wife the benefits of rooting. Before a complete wipe though, I would like to see if there is any validity to this "corrupt app" and "not fixable" statements made by Tmobile reps. My first roadblock seems to be the sim card, I don't have one, and can't find a way to root w/o it yet.
Options-
-Use my wife's current sim card (its a 4G sim now for her sensation, will it still work), but she would probably have a hissy and not let me use it
-Use my sim card from my Tbolt (which requires an unlock code)
-Find a way to root w/o a sim all-together
I am sure with a little more investigating, I'll find a way to make it work.
Why not just boot to recover and wipe?
Turn phone off.
Press and hold "HOME" button, press power button, keep holding home.
When it gets to the "!" screen, open keyboard, press ALT-L.
Then press ALT-W (W is for Wipe).
When finished, reboot.

yes try that first!! see if you can get it to work... you will need her sim just for a second so you can get by the google sign in... than if you connect to wifi you can remove the sim, ad if you still want to root the device follow this guide here...
[Guide] (8-18-11) G1 How-to: Root, Un-Root & Everything in-between
you can do this whole guide pretty quick, and you only need to use your wife's sim card for 1 second... just to sign into google once you get to 1.5.. than you can give it back to her and do everything via wifi, let me know if you need some more help..
Done, finally! This might have been super simple for any of you to do, it took me a total of about 8 hrs to get where I am, which is successfully running cm5.0.8.
This process was made more difficult by not having an activated sim card, and not being connected to wi-fi to even set up google.
Using adb I found a way to bypass the google setup when you have an "expired" Tmobile sim card inserted, but to use adb I needed usb debugging enabled, and I finally figured that out.
Now to hopefully make this long story shorter, I am now flashing whatever rom I wish to run on a phone in which Tmobile said was not fixable.
The phone is, in fact, way better than any stock g1 could be.
The current rom runs great on it, (I aslo run cm7 on my Tbolt), and all market apps download and run correctly, to the contrary of what the Tmobile reps said.
Well, I guess I'm done. If nothing else, I said I could do it, and I did it.
Now maybe a little respect from my wife.
Well, the TMobile rep succeeded where it matters to their manager, they sold your wife a new phone!

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum. A while back I found a phone in the gas station bathroom that I was working at. I kept it under the desk with a note and of course the camera watching it in case it disappeared without a customer picking it up. No one ever came for it and after 2 weeks (company policy) I took it home with me. Anyway, I've just been using it on my wireless internet and playing games, however my phone contract just ran out on my crappy verizon old flip phone and I want to go to straight talk and use this one.
So, I bought the Straight talk byop kit which includes a sim card for the phone, however, the SIM card that's meant for AT&T phones is too small for this one for some reason, however the TMobile one fits in it perfectly fine. The problem is that it's a tmobile sim card and I'm sure you all know that I need to unlock the phone to get it. So, last night I spent about 4 hours searching for ways to unlock it. I see it's possible to do it for free using the system settings phone codes, but the code combinations don't seem to work for me.
*#0011# - When i key enter 1 it doesn't do what the video I was watching says it's supposed to do.
*#9090# - Restarts my phone after I hit the what I'm told to.
There's another I tried however, I can't remember the code, it takes me to the debug menu, however option 6 isn't there to give me access to phone options or whatever.
So, I gave up as my laptop battery started to waiver around 10% and went to sleep.
Now, today, I hopped on and attempted to figure it out again, but got bored really quick, stumbling accross the same stuff I tried last night, so I tried rooting it thinking that getting admin access to my phone would make option 6 appear when I entered that number. I was wrong, but hey, I successfully rooted my phone so it's cool.
Anyway, I just want the SIM card to work. I really don't care if I have to unlock my phone or whatever, I just want my phone to be able to make calls. So if unlocking my phone works, please help me, if there's a way to get the super small AT&T SIM card to work, then that's be great.
I'm sure you need some of my phone info to help me out so here we go.
It's a Samsung S4 on 4.3 firmware, rooted. It's an I337 and the baseband version says I337UCUEMK2.
If you need any other information to help me out, please feel free to ask. I tried calling AT&T already btw, they said without a phone number they won't provide me with an unlock code.

I honestly don't understand 90% of the words in that post... Is there a post or article that'll teach me the basics to rooting and unlocking? I'd really love to do custom roms and everything. I honestly thought when I rooted my phone it'd give me admin access and the hidden system management options would become open to me.
Anyway, hope you can help, my wife is getting on my case about getting it unlocked. If I don't have it done tonight, she's going to make me add the straight talk to a different phone instead of this one and I really don't want to use a cheap piece of junk straight talk phone.

I'm doing research on getting a custom rom installed right now, I'm looking at Carbon ROM. I guess I have another question, is there any roms that give me full access to system manager or whatever it's called when you enter those numbers?
Okay, I made an attempt to use your walkthrough, method 2. I went and downloaded odin, and tried to flash the mdl modem however they don't exactly explain in the walkthrough how to do that, I figured I'd take a hit at it and went to do it and odin says it failed.
Is there a walk through I can read through to find how to flash?
I'm not sure what safestrap is, I can't find it on my phone and google only brings up droid ones for me as far as I've seen. It sounds like if I get the mdl modem on my phone that because it unlocks the hidden options in system manager I just have to do that and use the system manager walkthroughs I've seen to go ahead and unlock it.
EDIT: Okay, I got safestrap installed, now I'm just trying to figure out how to get a different modem installed, any help there? I'm looking and asking around but I'm not seeing anything.
