[Q] Messaging App crashes, data loss - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi guys,
I've had my desire-z for a week or two now, the phone is great - except for one recurring issue...
The messaging app crashes (randomly) and completely wipes the messaging DB! I've connected over ADB and downloaded the sqlite file to confirm this, not a single message remains in the DB after the crash.
The devil is in the details - I didn't just have 1 or 2 texts in there when the app crashed... I did an import using SMS Backup/Restore of all of the txt messages from my iphone - some 10,000+ messages (the db was well over 2 MB). The odd thing is that it would just WORK for days and days, and then at one point completely flake (one of two things, either a message arrives and i get a crash screen or i just take the phone out of standby and it crashes).
Have any of you seen this behavior? Any tips to avoid it?

Threaded SMS + Swype + Over 200 Total Messages = WTF

1) Why is there a relationship between number stored text messages and delay time between when phone first lights up until I am unable to unlock the phone and read my message? It seems sometimes when I have even 200+ messages stored, my phone will light up indicating a text is being received, but will "freeze" until it has (what seems to be) re-loaded every text stored. Only then, allowing me to access my new text message. So fukcing frustrating...it has to be Sense related.
- No, turning off Sense does not fix the problem either. I'm stock ROM (2nd to latest ROM upgraded)
2) Why does Swype, in threaded mode, insist on having every message load prior to being able to use it? Again, if a contact has 200+ messages in their thread, the phone is useless until all messages have loaded...
I enjoy using the threaded view, because I'm often referring back to previous text messages in my conversations. I can avert the Swype loading by using traditional mode. As of right now, it's either Swype + traditional or no Swype + threaded. I shouldn't feel I should have to choose, am I right?
I realize I can just delete my messages every 200+ that occur, but I reach that in a couple of days. Deleting takes too long too and going through SMS Backup is a too much of a pain if it's not for 1000+ texts.
I know this is cache/memory related. I wish there was a way to transfer the texts from phone storage to SD storage. I'm running a Class 6 too, so I don't think I can attribute slow processing speeds to the card either.
Thanks in advance. I realize this is MOST likely a repeated question. But I feel I haven't been able to arrive to a just answer from searching.
yep, its an ooold problem with no specific fix other than don't save more than 100 or so txts.
tried the latest rom?
I find that using a custom ROM has pretty much fixed the problem of HTC messageing freezing like that for me. I constantly have 1000+ texts in 3-4 threads, and have minimal wait times for messageing to open and let me reply.
Try using the latest TMO USA stock ROM. This ROM seems to have completely eliminated any problems with the HTC messaging app.
I have twitter send tweets from certain users as txt messages to my phone. The thread for twitter has reached over 1000 messages on a couple of occasions with this new ROM without causing significant lag like the previous stock ROM used to
swype is crap I notice that was the problem why my sms app would slow app...I use the regular keyboard and I have over 300 messages with one contact and its still not slowing up, and on top of that I notice I type faster with the regular keyboard....first time I used the keyboard since i got the phone back in june
I recommend a rom without HTC messaging. HTC messaging is still slow wether its stock rom or custom. Why they decided to uber up WinMo SMS I will never know.

[Q] Strange SMS problem; messages continuously multiplying... HELP!

I recently reset my DHD to factory settings, due to an SMS error, (messages wouldnt send, would send multiple times) and before doing so i backed up my SMS using 'Backup to Gmail' (the pay one, cause it was important to me that it worked properly, which it did)
Upon complete system reset, by about 2 hours later, ALL of my texts had re-appeared, (had logged into exchange server for gmail, google for contacts / calander and facebook/twitter ONLY) i had not even signed in to 'Backup to Gmail' and DEFO had not restored any messages.
Ever since, my texts have been multiplying, so automatically the old messages are duplicating themselves growing from what started as 100/150 to most recently about 2,780 (for the same contact) when max 10/20 new messages were actually sent.
It is so odd, i can open the message application (stock HTC one) and just watch the numbers increasing!?
I have since unsynced and uninstalled backup to gmail app, but i can still clearly see that the numbers of messages are increasing.
SO:
1) Where / what service backs up all text messages? If any?
2) How on earth do i stop it? I can happily reset again, but i think it will do the same unless i can work out how it is doing it? i.e. where they are being restored from?
I would really appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can give...
Thank you so much in advance... hopefully i can fix it before my messages multiply sooo much that it just fills the full memory???

Long SMS problems?

Hey all,
Android 2.3.3 rooted & unlocked, UK Vodafone .145 build.
I can't send longish SMS messages (or MMS), usually when it's 3 long. So far I've been lazy & just condense them to 2 long. Today it's pi$$ed me off in that 2 long have been stuttering too.
Anyone else have this problem? I Googled it & checked my network settings & they appear to be fine.
TIA
Rixter
A friend of mine has the exact same problem, but so far we have been unable to solve it. Have tried installing handcent to solve the problem, but no luck. Her phone is the standard arc no changes from stock, except we installed handcent and slideit keyboard.
Anyone has any solution to this?
I had the same problem on 2.3.2, now on 2.3.3 i use go sms and it hasnt been doing it
Do you keep all of your messages?
Im using the standard app, and in message conversations if i delete the previous messages i dont have a problem sending messages 2/3/4 in 1 go but if i try to send a message 2/3/4 to my girlfriend because i keep all her messages, i must have nearly 3000+ on there, it lags slightly. so try deleting some messages or use an app from the market to back them up to your sd card so you dont loose them
after almost 2 years from the last post, I am having a similar issue: I can't send sms larger than "3" sms. I have a Live with Walkman, using CM10.1. maybe this is a more complex problem than I thought...

SMS force close

Hi
My sister in law has a wildfire and is having issues with the SMS apparently force closing when deleting SMS messages. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

No one have this issue?

if she has many sms it's natural on wildfire... just hit the wait bottom and wait wf does not have a high-end cpu so it can't handle many sms.
htc msging app sucks balls. download some other msging apps like go sms from market, should help
hit thanks if i helped you
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
tried both Go SMS and Handcent and both show the same issue. She has one thread with nearly 1700 messages in which seems to be causing the issue.
Any more ideas??
As a last resort i have gone into settings\applications\all apps\messaging and cleared all data. This has cleared all messages and then i have set up the sms app to delete sms over 100 per conversation to avoid this in future
EDIT: This did not work. SMS all still there
Right I think I have finally found a way to remove the messages. Ive downloaded "my phone explorer" and used my laptop to delete the messages remotely. Now she has SMS housekeeping set to remove messages over 100 per conversation it should look after itself
deleting messages is a real PITA. It took me about 24 hours to delete 3xxx messages once. You can delete threads with applications like handcent or stock SMS app, they will appear to freeze but after a while they will complete.
A better app I found is "SMS delete". It deletes messages one per one (with options like only delete from that number, only messages containing this word, only older than xx days, ...) and it runs in the background and also when the phone screen is off. It's still slow, but a lot less annoying, and it deletes faster the less messages there are still left on the phone.
I am searching it on the market but I can't find it as of now, I restored it myself using titanium backup. It's a green envelope with a green arrow if you would come across it...
*edit* this one http://android-apps.com/applications/communication/sms-delete-2/ but can't find it in the market, good luck
I'd try the Fix Permissions options at the settings.

3rd Party Messaging Apps will not receive text

Hello All!
I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and im all out of ideas of what to do.
Carrier: T-Mobile
Wearable: S3 Rugged
Extra Service: DIGITS
Coming From: LGV20 which never had these issues with the same plans and accesories
So to start, when i got the phone inittially during setup of the google accounts i noticed that my OTP SMS Pushes were not being received, or auto filling the information. I skipped past all of that and noticed that anywhere that OTP text were suppose to autofill in different applications, it would not even when i received the text and got a notification.
So after a while of using TEXTRA which was working fine, one day i stopped receiving ALL text not just mms. I was able to send but never was I able to get anything from anyone. I ditched TEXTRA and went back to the stock Samsung app and noticed that all text were there, even though it was not default. After using the Samsung messages app i decided to go back to textra, heres whats funny. After Textra did it's initial setup, it only showed half of the recieved text from up to that day. Messages were incomplete, some just had one reply from a user and nothing else. So I also tried this with Android Messages and it had the EXACT same message log as textra. Both were not receiving the full logs from the server. Today Android Messaging was working for a good part of the day, then it just stopped all of sudden again.
Can someone help me with this, I've wiped the cache and factory reset the phone. Ive added and removed the multi-line settings in the samsung settings. I've tried the legacy settings on textra. I've called the DIGIT's customer service to see if they could fix it but they made and interesting point that it couldnt be digit because it wouldnt interfere with 3rd part messaging apps. When i switch apps i always make them default, i wipe the app cache etc.
I have a gut feeling this has something to do with something with the default Samsung Messages app and it somehow restricting use outside of it.
I just wanted to reply and say that I've been experiencing the exact same issue and haven't had any luck Google engineering my way around it. For me, I'm seeing the issue with Signal, so I don't believe it's the 3rd party app's problem. I can send messages (SMS/MMS), but the Samsung Messages app is the only one that "receives" them. A strange workaround I found was to download Android Messenger, set that as the default messaging app, then set Signal as the default messaging app again. This worked for a while, but I think the Samsung Messages app recently updated, and it broke this again until I repeated the above workaround.
It's annoying enough that, without a fix, I'll definitely be flashing a completely stripped ROM on this phone once we have the ability to do so to get away from all of the Samsung apps that I can't disable. And don't even get me started on Bixby...

I haven't had any issues with my At&t model...Been using Yaata since day one (about 2 months).
Also, there are some "package disabling" apps in the play store that will allow you to disable any app you want, you don't even need to be rooted. It cost me $1.99 (or around there), but was well worth it! You can even completely disable Bixby, so the button is even non-responsive.
Having the same issue and I may have fixed it. I logged completely out of Digits on the phone (settings/cloud accounts/multi line/hit the ... menu and choose log out.
I have this same issue. No matter which 3rd party SMS app I use I have missing text messages on the T-Mobile S8. Has anyone fixed this? It is driving me crazy. T-Mobile replaced my S8 and the new one does it (not as bad but it does it more than I'd like). How can I resolve this? My friend haf the same issue, he has an unlocked T-Mobile working on AT&T.
I don't use Digits or anything like that... any ideas?
hi guys
all you need to do
go to setings
device maintence
battery
scrool all the way down to unmonitored apps and add your 3rd party sms app
youre welcome
This still didn't work for me and I am having the same exact issues. I have tried installing 2 different 3rd party messaging (Textra and Mood) and both were not working properly. I can send messages out just fine but when I receive them they are delayed (like 5 minutes or longer). Sometimes, I don't get the messages at all. Of course, the Samsung Messaging app (which I hate) works just fine. I have even "Force Stopped" it! What to do?
go into the stock messaging app, and turn off advanced messaging
Has anyone found a solution? I've been using textra for years & suddenly in March I started having this problem but with sent messages. All incoming texts are displayed but my sent texts aren't. I did try the 2 suggestions above. On a note 8, Android 8.0.0,Samsung experience 9.0.
SOLVED. I had the same issues and found the solution. Before you install your 3rd party sms/MMS you need to disable the default messenger. I uninstalled signal, disabled the built-in messenger, reinstalled signal. Now I can receive texts. Also my phone is not a Samsung.
