Windows Phone 7 coming to HD2 soon - HD2 General

What do you guys think? It mentions that windows live services wont work.

Very cool, I had thought I was about to tell you to hush and we already knew about it...but this is genuine news! AWESOME! I for one would LOVE to be able to run WP7, would make me extremely happy.

From what I heard (read) from different sites, the WGA will keep a lot of things from working like it's supposed to.
I guess this is a question for the mods:
Based on the policies of the site, if they do port over WP7 to the HD2, would it be considered a warez because of the WGA?

I really hope things don't get ugly over something like this...

No, WP7 technically isn't a ware as the source is available, the whole WGA thing is so that unauthorized devices, IE cheap China clones and the like can't utilize Windows Live services. I am more than sure that there will be a way around the PVK/WGA system, and at least in some way Live Services will be able to function.

That's awesome!

Getting HTC HD2 For X-Mas, Do These Apps Exist

Edit(13.03.10) Ew... I can't believe I wrote this once :S
Hey im getting my first smart phone the christmas, and I cant wait, but after doing loadsa research I know that windows mobile is total crap in comparisson to iphone and android OS's. So I was wondering if a few different apps and such existed to make the HD2 even better
1) Is there an app which lets you put a pin/security code on your phone (like the iphone has) so it needs to be entered before you can access it?
2) Are there any skinning apps to change the appearance of the windows UI when not in sense?
3) Is there anyway to port android/iphone OS to the HTC HD2? (I've seen there a site dedicated to that for android, will they be doing a leo one anytime soon?) plus is it worth it or does it become laggy and such
4) Are there any other cool apps (not tacky games or calculators) which you might suggest for me to put on?
5) How do I install these things, I see most of it is in CAB files, but how do I install them to the phone?
Thanks

1- Yes, you can lock the screen with Password. When you power on the screen, you are prompted to enter a pin/ paraphrase.
2- If I understand, you want to change the from sense to another UI. Try SPB Shell.
3- The project is running to port Android on HD2 and the progress is in the development section. Still, there is a long way to go.
4- Once you buy the phone, you can join the Leo themes and applications section, where you will find pretty good applications. My favorites are: ShazamID, Resco Explorer, Garmin GPS, Core Player, Skype, Putty mobile etc..
5- You need to copy the cab file to your device. Once it's there, you tap on it and an installation wizard appears.
1) Yes, that´s part of the system (can be set up during first start or later)
2) Yes, that´s part of the system (check settings for "today" and more)
3) No. Android maybe when HTC Dragon is launched? iPhone? Hmm...
4) That depends on your own needs and requests... so many to choose from.
5) A cab is copied to the memory card of the phone and launched from there.
EDIT: Sorry for redundant posting...

Because I love everything else about the HD2, its just Ive heard some bad things about wm6.5, and Ive seen when not in sense (like browsing folders) it can look ugly. Dont get me wrong, I love the phone and cant wait for it!
(Oh and I hate apple, I hate everything about them :/ apart from the amazing collection of apps being made for the Iphone/touch)
(Windows boy ;D )
Windows Mobile 6.5 isn't that bad. And you don't spend a huge amount of time outside Manila anymore. Sure, the file explorer isn't that good looking, but it's pretty damn functional!
Try it for yourself, and you will see, Windows Mobile 6.5 is very solid. Lots of tweak. Lots to discover. Amazing.
As for applications, just Google around. There are LOADS!
Thanks man, I will ^^
Know any good app sites?
So Far-
xda developers
freewarepocketpc.net
Ive heard and seen that the M$ app store sucks.

For application site try:
Handango
Mobile2Day
PocketGear
The mainstream developers like SpB, SBSH, Resco, Vito etc also all allow downloads direct from their sites.
There are literally thousands of applications available for WinMo- and have been since the iPhone was a twinkle in Jobs' eye Many take advantage of the fact that WinMo is genuinely multi-tasking so can run many apps at once. Some are cheap, other expensive, just like mainstream PC programs. Likewise some are innovative and useful, others total crap
Most come as either EXE files which are run on the PC whilst the WM device is docked, and install from there. Others are CAB files which have to be run locally on the device. The advantage of these is that you can keep copies of all your CAB files on the storage card for re-installation in an emergency if needs be. Combined with a free program like PIMBackup from Dotfred.com, you can be up & running without access to the internet in an emergency

And you believe every bullsh*t that you read somewhere?
You can't trust anyone these days, blogs and sites that were serious sources in the past are now full of iPhone fanboys, like Gizmodo. Don't believe anything you read somewhere, try everything yourself if possible.
To clarify: Windows Mobile is not bad at all. At least it's not worse than the other OSs, Android, iPhone OS, Symbian...
All mobile OSs have lots of flaws these days.
Windows Mobile has a bad UI in some places, but it's very powerful and great parts of the UI are more well thought out than e.g. the iPhone UI (like the homescreen and notofications concept).
iPhone OS lacks critical features and is severly limited, but easy to use.
Android is somewhere in between.
So, no OS is perfect and none is best or worst, they are just different and all have their good and bad sides.
Windows Mobile is still by far the most powerful mobile OS, lots of things that an iPhone or Android device can't do without hacking/jailbreaking or even can't do at all can be done with Windows Mobile out of the box (like the screen locking you asked for, for example).

Evidently you are as stupid as you research. Windows Mobile is a FAR superior OS than Android and iPhone.
WM isnt perfect but its a **** load better than either of the OS's you suggest, and thats not to say that future releases of android may be on par, but at the moment there is no comparison.
I would suggest that you hold your tongue when you don't really have a clue about what your saying, firstly if this is your first smart-phone, how the hell can you know if "windows mobile is total crap"
have you ever used it? NO you said so yourself!! also im predicting that you have also never had an Android or an iPhone since they are in the same range of devices!!
Secondly, just to bring you up on something, your spelling is disgraceful!

Firstly this isnt a personal attack, it is to balance out the damage posts like this can do to devices like this. this is usually the first place people come when researching HTC devices, since this is the foremost site for HTC devices.
For EG if someone actually wanted a HTC HD2, came here to research the device and its capabilities, then read your post and the others like it they probably will drop the device and move to iPhone!
but now, if they read the thread and see a post like this defending the devices it counter balances the mis-statements in your post.
In the last month since this device has come out, due to the popularity of the iPhone and subsequent hardware/software problems pertaining towards the device, people like you have been buying the HTC HD2 before you know what your getting into and posting threads like this ALL over the forum eg:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=598035
&
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=598035
etc.
Also i specifically reference to this post HERE for a full explanation of why i flamed!!
these people have basically done the same as you, got/getting the phone and slagging it off before it has even arrived.
this device is the best device of its kind available, and as with everything if you know how to use it you can improve the device and its function, but coming onto a forum BEFORE you have even held the device and saying its **** is just plain stupid and you deserve to get flamed.
as for attacking me, "Cyber Ninja" well yes, i fix alot of things here and i also seem to be the one who speaks straight and doesnt give a crap if i offend, i just speak what people think.
you could have answered ANY of your questions with the search button!

Well no, it is better because the capability to do anything is there you just have to know how to do it! hence it is a more complete OS.

BUT... with the speed that people learn things, the "Average User" may find the iPhone good until they understand its limitations, then it becomes a crap os!
I got my MUM and iPhone for her birthday in July, by mid Nov she sold it because the phone was too basic, the sat nav apps were rubbish, wifi over heated, bluetooth didnt work unless it was iphone to iphone, no mms etc etc and a whole host of other things.
not she is on HTC any time the thinks of something she needs her phone to do, she just asks me and the phone can do it!!
EG: she has 3 different sat navs, iGO8, Navigon & TomTom. she has TMC working through the FM Receiver on the phone and TTS! that on its own is nearly £700 if you go to the shop and buy a satnav with TMC & TTS.
this cannot be dont on the other phones!
the problem is as i said iPhone quickly becomes easy to use and boring, as with the andriob, but this will get better as im sure we all no.
my problem is that the more bad mouthing HTC gets the less people get the devices, the less people buy the fewer new devices we get to play with!

Dual-Boot HTC HD2 Windows Mobile/Android

Hey I am new to flashing. I have changed the roms on g1's, and on the nexus one per different youtube vidoes and stuff i have read in this forum.
Yesterday i purchased the HD2 and to my horror found out that it was running on Windows Mobile (WTF). So i have been loking around and I saw that in the past the forum has been able to get Touch Pro 2 that run on WM6.5 to dual boot into android.
So I am hoping that the same can be done with the HD2. So is the HSPL2 listed in this forum the beginning steps to this process or what? Has anyone yet setup the HD2 to run on android?
I know this is wordy but I just want to make it understood that I am new and I want to learn and that I have the desire to get android on my HD2.
thanks any suggested reading is welcome as the steps to get android on this awesome phone that HTC FUBAR'd with WM6.5
The HD2 cannot run android at this time.

No, it's not quite there at this time. However, while I understand your opinion, I don't think HTC "FUBAR'd" at all. I've had a few Android devices and this phone is AMAZING, even with WM.
this has been discussed already at length.. if you look in the ROMS section of the forum you'll find it ..
And it is NOT going to happen soon..
Android on the HD2 will be amazing! Hopefully they can get it ported by summer to compete with the HTC EVO.

...this is not true,
There is an engineer at the local Tmobile call center dual booting Android and winmo. He runs Android off of the card itself. The phone that is dual booting is at the kiosk at the LaPlaza mall in Mcallen TX and has been used as their demo phone.
How is he doing it? I have no idea, but hes told myself and a Tmobile sales buddy that he'll help us out with it.
So, you purchased the phone without realizing its a WM phone, and have the balls to complain, all because you didnt read, and now are asking if you can put android on it...lazy much?
I suppose you want someone to flash it for you too, or better yet start another thread asking how to do that...
Didn't you see the windows mobile on the box...

You're saying he's booting android on a hd2? I doubt it. Are you sure its not a TP2? There is an andriod port for the TP2.
I'm not sure how you purchased the phone without knowing the underlying OS, but I'm guessing you bought it in the US for Tmobile. If that is the case, and I'm guessing it is, then you can't flash any ROMs for it yet because of the different SPL.

I seriously doubt this. Maybe you had it confused with an HD or a TP2, but I doubt xda wouldn't know about this...especially since it's most likely to originate here. A picture to prove this would be great, but I don't expect it.

Bro are you for real?! Please dont waste my time with that smart mouth crap unless you are adding solutions along with it. I am not knocking your opinion I am just stating that maybe you should adjust the delivery system. Cause we both can play the a$$hole game and I promise you thats one I will not lose. So be constructive or dont post.
thanks

I know this is wordy but I just want to make it understood that I am new and I want to learn and that I have the desire to get android on my HD2.
thanks any suggested reading is welcome as the steps to get android on this awesome phone that HTC FUBAR'd with WM6.5

you want solutions and are talking about constructive? how about using the search button? this question is already been asked like 100 times?
I would just like to thank everyone that replied. I guess i just need to wait a bit longer for the xda big brains to resolve this issue. I just thought that it would have been a simpler thing to do since the HD2 in UK had been flashed to run android. I have plenty on time and money so I can buy another device and wait.
Thanks again all.

News to me! I've seen it running on other devices, but even then it's beta, with various functionality still unavailable, WIFI etc.
If you wanted Android, a little research before hand should and would have been wise, i.e. waiting for the EVO to be released.
I like WinMo 6.5. It may not be as pretty as Android or iPhone OS (without the Sense gui which is quite lovely imho) but it's a very versatile and an incredibly powerful tool in the hands of the right user. If you're in a business environment, using Microsoft equipment, exchange servers etc, there is not an more efficient handheld device to carry in you pocket (again, imho).

HD2, WinMo7, 6.x and VS2010...

This is a bit of an odd question, but please bare with me here.
I'm writing my thesis for the uni about C#... with the recent release of VS2010, I thought it'd be great to focus on this IDE and the new features it offers and put those in the thesis as well. I ALSO had an idea to show that one can write apps for mobile devices using C# (duh, but all's fair in the academic world ); I own a HD2, so being able to whip out the phone and show the app working would be a great way to blow some academic minds (well, not really, but I think it'd be nice).
However... VS2010 doesn't support WMo 6.X, which is a serious bummer. There are some rumours that an SDK will be released, but if and when that will happen remains a mystery.
So this leaves me WMo7, which has already been ported to HD2. However, it seems it's not public just yet. And besides not being public, WMo7 will supposedly only allow apps to be installed through MS store... so I have no idea if it'll be possible for me to write an app for that OS and actually use it (it won't be commercial in any way and 100% useless for 99% of people, as it only serves as a live example for my thesis).
To summarize:
- Is is possible for a "basement-programmer" like myself to use WMo7 to show off my own apps without the use of the MS store?
- If so, where could I get my hands on WMo7 for HD2?
- If WMo7 is not available to us mortals, could someone tell me roughly when a public release will be available?
- Or perhaps the whole idea is pointless and I should just develop my app in VS2080 and show it off with the HD2 that I currently own? (It's will be a simple app that connects to some database online without being limited to MSSQL and does something with it, where "something" is yet unspecified)

assume currently it wont be available for the HD2, if it is then it wont be available until a few months after the release of wp7

AKAIK it hasnt, there is a rom available but it doesnt run on any current device since its a beta rom for an unreleased device.
there is a chance they may get it working on the HD2 or some other phone but its not available currently.

So... the whole thing about W7 having been ported to HD2 was just a rumour?
I am not sure where you heard that winmo had been ported too hd2? is a link available.
I have just checked Da_G's twitter account and he is still working on the port, he has developed several new tools too help him but is struggling to get some stuff to do with the JTAG controller.
there is a hd2 application which attempts to reimplement some of the functions you can see in the wp7 promo videos but this is not a port it is just an application that looks like wp7.

write your app under 2008 and for 6.5, there hasn't been any word from the source of that rumour for months. C# code is very portable between 2008 and 2010, so don't worry about that. With a little work (can be on the order of hours) you can upgrade your code to 2010 and 7.0 if it ever arrives for HD2.
uuum.. u can show windows phone 7 with a emulator on a pc.. and i think ms released the windows phone 7 tools to programm apps for it alerady..
http://developer.windowsphone.com/Default.aspx
dont know if its possible to just run the app without the market.. i hope it is, but really dont know >.<
and its impossible to port wp7 to the HD2 right now. yes, it already happened, but that version is very laggy and buggy, so its useless when u want to show it

Soooo any updates on WP7 for HD2

Soo yeah, It was on the main page recently that a build of windows phone 7 would soon be released for HD2. I know I'm begging for a good flaming for this but is there anywhere I can find an update on the status of this project? I know its a locked down OS and blah blah blah but I use the HD2 as my business phone and would like it to have a more business appeal to it. Does amnyone have an idea on the status of this project?

WM7 will come , but like chefs told its just a demo. i dont think its will for a daily use. Android is enough .
i just don't get it. can't the device handle the os?
I think it comes down to if the team is willing to crack the OS so everything works. Last I heard, the thing thats holding back release and making the OS usable would be Windows Genuine Phone. It prevents non-genuine versions of windows phone to work properly. Without live tiles and access to apps, the usefulness of windows phones is non-existent.

of course it can, its just the fact that porting a complete OS is a massively complex task that us mere mortals can barely even comprehend.....
the devs need time and for others to be patient....
Well I'm gonna patiently wait. Android is helping bide the time, but I'm ready for some new microsoft goodies.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
You´ll be surprised soon with Leo running smoothly WP7
You can read how well all is going on Windows Phone 7 section.
By now we must have patience and support the great masters like Cotulla and Da_G just for mention some.

Iphone OS on aur device?

Hi @ all,
i want to know if anyone think that it will be possible to get ios working on our hd2, or is someone working on it?
never gonna happen.
It is possible, "anything is possible", but in this case it's not even near possible, so it's impossible. Since, well, Apple is never going to release the source code.
not again!
no this will never happen because of different reasons like no available source codes, apple itself and various others.
and please. not the same thread every week. use search funtion!

No way to really know for sure but that is more than likely just a HD2 running a MIUI ROM. From what I can see in the screen shot it really looks like that is the case.
Plus if the DFT was working on one it would probably just be for thier personal use. Cause if they released it Apply would be sue and copyright infringement happy with court cases, and probably bring legal action against them. Remember iOS is not open sourc what so ever and Apply has not released any of it's source code or drivers. So there would be some serious legal lines being crossed by doing this.
