sould work ! i'm gessing your doing somthing wrong

PLS, any build for noob like me ?
U R right. Guide for NEXUS working on DHD. THX

pls i have not cyanogen mod, but i have custom rom, i think Modaco, tried nexus based tutorials, but cant connect my ubuntu with vnc, whats wrong?

HD2 is runing Ubuntu in native mode (no VNC), can DHD do the same?

Do DHD users need to recompile their kernal to enable loop back devices the same as the EVO4G?
I am currently using Official HTC 2.6.32.21-g3d0aaff should it be the same instructions as compiling a kernal with CONFIG_DEV_BLK_LOOP=y for the EVO4G for the DHD aswell?

I have chrooted ubuntu working on my desire hd a recompile of the kernel was not needed like the evo4g.

1 LOOP = is for short ubuntu in android we want real ubuntu NATIVE
2 DHD kan easy do ubuntu.even beter then hd2 as spec are beter.
3 We only need some kind of boot img with some options enabled like config_vt=y ( i dont know wat's needed more * )
4 CONFIG_DEV_BLK_LOOP=y is needed to chroot a os in a os
From wat i read online this are the option to enable in .config in your source to build.
CONFIG_INPUT=y
CONFIG_VT=y
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
But as i say i dont know, its only wat i read

Hi,
I got it working on LeeDroid using this guide:
ht tp://androlinux.com/android-ubuntu-development/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-android/

Just out of curiousity...the Android OS is linux based...what would be the benefit of running ubuntu on the DHD (or any phone for that matter)?
I am currently running Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop and there IS benefits there, but I just don't see how they would be related to a smartphone application except for the (pardon the reference) "geekiness" of it.

I know leedroid is currently playing with ubuntu on dhd...
He has mentioned this in the leedroid hd v2.0 thread (around page 800...yep its a big thread! lol)

just for some points , not that you need them.
1 download a 10G torrent for me on you phone without crashing.
2 let just forget all the apps you get with ubuntu alone
3 please run some python for me and i do mean full support
4 greasemonkey support
5 this are just some of the things
6 and that all on a smal smartphone instead of a 11inch notebook.
But just for the recored not that you need them , but sure i do.

Watched a few YouTube vids .. using the touch screen instead of a mouse looks tricky

[MOD] suggestion for a webtop solution on AOSP/CM/AOKP

I found this tread that makes an install of Linux on every mobilephone, could this be usefull?? I am not a developer but I think this thing belongs to Development, if not I am sorry and ask mods to move this.
So what you want to do is install webtop as a linux OS on the atrix?
I think its not posible...but maybe Im wrong
from the (m)ATRIX...
Quote from that thread:
This projects aim is to bring a range of linux distros to your android device through a method known as 'chroot',

As far as I know, this is already available for the Atrix's webtop since forever ago, through debian chroot (and possibly webtop2sd).

Since this is a project working on also other devices w/o webtop functionality, maybe it could help in having webtop in cyanogenmod and other custom ROM builted from sources!

I know, but I posted the link here so that maybe some devs could possibly integrate it into a ROM so that when you connect the phone to tv/dock it boots automatically into linux distro!
It doesn't work like that. You have to actually start the hardware side of things on the tegra2 chip, it has nothing to do with the chroot linux distro, which is very old news (and all the devs know about it). What you essentially have to do is code the x session to send itself over the seperate hdmi output frame buffer, which also has to be triggered and deactivated properly.
No developer has been interested in really trying it. Jokersax was working on it at one point in CM9, but scrapped it due to upstream changes that broke his code.
This doesn't really belong in this section, and I've given you the actual reason why there's more to this than you think. Also, as I said, everyone knows about running linux on android in this fashion, as it's a very old project at this point.
Yup, chroot methods won't help a bit
I believe that webtop on cm is something that Samcripp is still trying to make work...

The gingerbread webtop is a hack by Motorola. Even tho is a linux distribution its tightly woven into android libraries. This libraries without source can't be added into cm7.
Cm9 is different. Ics is capable of switching to tablet mode. Offering a better option than just plain locked down linux. We shall see.

[TUTORIAL][VIDEO]Build your own Android kernel

Hey Folks,
I'm contributing this tutorial video for people that want to make an Android kernel!
Step-by-step tutorial:
http://ohheyitslou.blogspot.com/2011/09/ohheyitslou-custom-android-kernel-guide.html
Things that are needed:
Just check the vid out!
Part 1: Configure, Compile the kernel

Enjoy it!
Caution: Commands in the video are for Fedora not for Ubuntu, Ubuntu commands are in the step by step guide, above!
Extra:
- If you want to give your kernel extra features like new governors or overclocking, check this guide on XDA-University out!
http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/adding-features-to-your-kernel
- Keep in mind you need to share your source after you've compiled the kernel due the GPLv3 licence. (GPL?)

It should work on Ubuntu 12.04.
BTW For earlier than Android 4.0, 32-bit is enough. But if you want to compile a kernel for a more recent version like Android 4.1 and 4.2 you'll need a 64-bit machine!
Keep it in mind!

That's the Atrix 2 (OMAP), and that's Ubuntu for Android rather than Ubuntu Phone OS.
Ubuntu for Android, as I understand it, is basically the Webtop that we've already had for some time now and uses the kernel already on the device, whereas Ubuntu Phone OS is a complete replacement for Android, but the details themselves are a bit sketchy, like what display server they're using, what kernel is supported. Wouldn't it be both ironic and disappointing if it required an ICS/JB kernel, especially since we still have a Froyo/GB kernel.

Yeah, he identifies the device about 10 seconds or so in, but admittedly if he didn't the only other way to identify it would be process of elimination, looking at the logo's and figuring it out that way.
Guys, there's a post of saiftheboss7 that he mention that he made a request to Mark Shuttleworth, Ubuntu's Guru. I don't think this will be fully working without an ICS Kernel.
I think an effort like this worths a try, since we can aways update the userspace ubuntu packages, keeping the old kernel. I don't see why the old gingerbread kernel wouldn't work.

Ubuntu Touch on Note 10.1

Anyone planning to port Ubuntu Touch to the Note 10.1. It seems like any device that can run CM 10.1 can run Ubuntu. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
I think we need a multi boot boot-loader maybe the method like on the nexus 7 IT Rocks can mutiboot several os ..
I have ran ubuntu on nexus not tried touch yet. Maybe i will today later..

A multi boot would definitely be nice but you should be able to backup and restore to previous Android as it keeps the custom recovery.
There's a how-to guide for porting on wiki.ubuntu if someone is capable of doing it:

Ooo this sounds very cool. I tried to read the wiki but my head almost exploded trying to understand the first bits. So I doubt I am the one to get it. lol!
Ok! According to Ubuntu post on nexus 10 forum they discovered that the Ubuntu touch is actually a Cm10.1 rom with Ubuntu over it and they say that porting is as simple as porting cm to other devices

[Q] Running SailfishOS on non-Jolla phones?

Hi all,
Is there any chance to run Sailfish OS on a non-Jolla phone? I would prefer a bigger screen and I'd prefer to not wait for their phone.
Assuming that the drivers from Android are compiled for the same Linux kernel version as I want to run in Sailfish, they should be loadable.
So then it's just a question of whether Sailfish is written to use the same devices (in /dev) in the same ways.
Anybody know?
Cheers.

First of all, Sailfish is not yet released to public, and most propably wont be before Jolla phone hits markets. So you can't get it before

Nobody knows yet, because nobody hasn't been able to have a look at it, since it hasn't been released. But I doubt that the kernel would match, since it doesn't even match on different Android phones. There are always some minor changes.

in android devices in /dev very often is used from binary blobs.
and this blob compiled againts another libc called bionic and it is not compatible with glibc, but Jolla phone will use android drivers via special library.

Well, the Sailfish OS runs on linux kernel thats for sure and soon it will have the capability to run almost all of the android apks, which means it can not be totally different form android form 'under-the-hood' so there is always some room to try it on your android devices.
I haven't really tried to explore Sailfish OS much, but if u do, plz tell me and I would like to do it on my phone (Moto xt910).

I must admit I really like this OS.. even if it is similar to blackberry 10 for some aspects.. if this os will be avaiable for rooted android phones, i will certainly install it on mine!
I'd install it fast if my phone could get this (LG L5), but I think it's too weak on it. Maybe Sony Ericsson xperia neo would take this.

since the N9 port of Sailfish OS is now available:
h**p://jollausers.com/2013/12/the-comprehensive-guide-to-port-sailfish-to-n9/
and the arm chipset in the N9 (OMAP3630) is equal to many Android devices like the Defy+ h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMAP it would be nice to hear that someone begins with the porting to other Android devices. Hopefully also for my Droid 4 (OMAP4430).
