Maybe my battery is not trained yet, but so far, on my 2-days old n1, battey lasts for 4 hours (mid. backlight, no wifi, very little use).
Still running stock rom and not planning on rooting.
What I noticed is that in my battery drain stats show Display contributing to 80% of total drain. That's with display being on mid setting... is that normal? What is yours (esepecially for people with stock roms)?
Are you playing with the phone a lot? Like is your display always on? 4hrs still seems extream to me, I am rooted and runninng a custom rom, but even when I wasnt I never managed to get through the battery that quickly, and I use the phone a lot
Here's what I do to get good battery... I only keep backlight on like the a ****as hair..lol barely unless outside...... widgets are cool n all, but if there constantly updating thats polling your battery, live wallpapers are cool, but a battery drainer, I also keep gps, locations and bluetooth off unless using them, wifi also.. also the background applications setting uses battery but if ya want updating widgets no way around that...
Also look in seetings about phone, battery use and see what's eating your battery, I use my phone hours at a time so my display is most my battery drain which is normal, everything else is like 7 percent or less, mostly 2 or 3 percent. ....
I think thats all I do, but you may keep stuff on like widgets and that unfortunately eats battery..
I am running everything in my Sig. I have had my N1 for about 2 months now right around that. After a 14 to 16hr day with some heavy to mild usage I am still over 50%, but then again I have 3g turned off and i am only on Edge all the time since i am always around WiFi. So i would tell you 4 hours is a bit extreme but hang in there it does get better. I remember being around 25% for the 1st few weeks until it got better. Other wise do what Temperbad said that is the best way to go. Only widget i am running that updates every hour is my Weather one. Turn the screen all the way down unless it other wise needs to be up. I am sure that is what is killing your battery. Mine is always on the lowest setting until i am outside.
Sadly I'm rooted, but I will state my percentage too.
Weirdly, my display usage is only 15% on Paul's Desire ROM. Honestly I dont see how this may be - but that is what it says. My brightness is quite high too..
Yeah, I'm well aware about widgets and battery drain regarding 3G and all that, I've had PDAs for quite a while.
For comparison, my old and ****ty TP2 would drain about 30-40% of its battery with same usage that would drain my N1 dry.
I do remember that LiIons get better in a week or so of usage, but I wanted to hear what you guys are getting. Would love to hear from someone who's just bought an N1 like me.
It's under full warranty, so I'm not worried too much. Just an inconvenience.

I have my display set to "Auto Brightness," have a display timeout of 1 minute, have my email get synced every hour, and also use a live wallpaper.
My display accounts for 63% of battery usage.
Auto brightness will use more battery than keeping it low. Cause its constantly checking light density through the sensor to give it the correct lighting...

I agree, but disabling that, disabling GPS, WiFi, turning off 3G, killing all widgets.. ok yeah my phone will last me 2 hours longer, but it's also boring as hell.
Might as well go pick up a simple nokia for $10 - battery will last for weeks, but what's the point..
Not saying your advise is bad, it's a good idea.. just that all these advices to turn everything off - what's the point of even having a PDA then..

I've read otherwise, though I don't think that Auto Brightness is the optimal battery saving setting.
Obviously it's a middle ground between max and low.
Here's a report of my usage today:
~Wifi and 3G both turned on the whole time
~30 mins of MP3s with head phones
~20 mins of 3G tethering over Bluetooth
~40 mins of apps usage (mostly the Browser and the Gallery)
~8 mins of talk time
one 1 min update through the bootloader
have gmail sync turned on, also twidroid syncs every 15 mins
The Battery use app shows:
54% Display (active 6% of the time)
16% Cell standby
14% Phone idle
4% Wifi (active 51.6% of the time)
4% Android System
Right now 14h26' since unplugged, still having 43% of the battery left. The battery meter says 12 more hours until 0%.
All things considered, the battery life is quite good on my N1.
Edit: forgot to mention, the display is set to the middle setting with the Power widget, no auto brightness

Wow... that's some serious battery life.
Ok, some questions..
1. screen brightness setting?
2. how long have u had that phone (battery) for? Did it improve over time?
3. Is it rooted/flashed or stock rom?
4. you got any syncing widgets running (RSS/twidroid)? Live wallpaper?
Thanks a bunch for your input!

Just one comment. I keep Wi-fi and GPS on all day because Wi-fi sleeps when the screen is off and only polls when the screen is on if you're not using it. GPS is only used when your location is required in an application. i dont know why people are always like "you have to turn these off to get good battery life" (Notice wi-fi is 2%)
also i've been running 8 hours with moderate to heavy use (internet, music, phone calls etc) and I'm @ 40%. The drain from 70% - 40% seems to go so slow compared to 100% - 70%.

Your right... about the updating widgets and wallpaper, they do make the phone funner.. but why need gps on when not using, or bluetooth, or wifi? Just simply turn them on when using...
So much going on with this phone I can say its good pretty decent battery....
Anyone know how to make my gmail sync every hour instead of instantly?
When I got my Nexus my battery was just as poor, but after using it for a couple of weeks I'm getting about 10 hours usage with medium brightness, WiFi, and gps.
So just give it some time and it should fix it itself.

Your phone or battery is defective. Call HTC for a replacement.
I know battery issues have been discussed over and over in this forum, but I have a question that I couldn't find the answer to in this forum.
I have an unlocked rogers x10 that's updated to R2BA020 that I'm using on Fido network, the phone is always roaming because I'm on Fido.
I'm thinking this is why my battery life sucks. I tried everything, task killers, juice defender, dim screen, full discharge.
Does the phone use more juice if it's roaming?
Yes, but it doesn't make a very large difference. If you're worried about constantly roaming, take a look at android, which let's you turn off Amsterdam on 3G.

Have you tried spare parts or something similar to check your battery usage? It lets you see what component is using the most battery. Even the Battery Usage option under Settings->About Phone should tell you where your juice is draining.

If he doesn't want to download spare parts, he could just dial *#*#4636#*#* (did I get that right?) in his dialer to get to the same menus.

I'm still having battery life issues as well on my Rogers x10a.
I was at 100% as of 12:00pm and it's now at 87% 5:00pm.
According to the battery info I've used:

Cell Standby - 28%
Phone Idle - 22%
Display - 11%
Android System - 4%

I'm on Fido as well, though I don't see a roaming icon anywhere.
Are you sure you're roaming?

2.6%/hr with actual use (not sleeping overnight) is not bad at all. a 4inch screen, 3g connected all the time smartphone will not get great battery life if you actually use it. many people talk about how they get a couple of days or more on a single charge but there is no possible way for this to happen unless you are barely touching your phone. the best i can hope for is a full days use as i use my phone all day and evening.
sometimes an app sits in the background and uses lots of juice, so if you want to make sure that is not happening you might want to do a hard reset and not install any apps for a day and see how battery life it. you can add back apps slowly so that you will be able to tell if one is causing your phone to use too much juice.
the other things you can try is not to use widgets that auto update all the time or try locking your phone to 2g for the day, turning screen brightness down to the lowest level when possible. stuff like that will help. since i updated to the r2 generic rom my battery life has been good enough. i could always use more, but i use my phone too much to expect more.
Thanks I use my phone a lot as well but hearing all these awesome battery life stories had me expecting more. Guess I'll live with what I have.

It drives me nuts too but the reality is that we all use our phones differently so while some people are happy getting two days of use by barely using their phone I just can't do that. I rely on my phone for too many different things, so if I can get through one day I am fine. It was a shock for me initially as I was using a blackberry 9700 and it had a very small screen and long battery life

I took my phone off charge 6 hours ago and I have 79% left as I type.
I did a 5 minute phone call, 10 minutes browsing, 2 minute YouTube video and I turned on WiFi for 30 minutes and Bluetooth for 45 minutes.
I checked the settings and it says:
Display 48%
Standby 18
Phone Idle 13%
Voice call 13%
I've been switching options on and off for the last few weeks that I have x10 and the conclusion is => turn of APN when you don't use it and the battery last for 3 days. Only problem I can think of is mail push but you can always check mail every 30min. There is this "APN on/off" widget that makes switching APN on and off pretty easy so there shouldn't be too much problems.
Doesnt make a difference here.. wifi and 3g cane my battery!!

I removed JuiceDefender, and I installed advanced task killer, and APN on/off widget and the battery life is much better now. I turn data off when I'm not using the phone and I kill tasks about 3-4 times a day. The screen is dimmed to 15%.
As per Android system info:
Up time: 1 days, 3 hours, 1 minutes, 59 seconds
Up time (without sleep): 0 days, 4 hours, 23 minutes, 8 seconds
17 % battery life left
I checked the settings and it says:
Display 40% (time on 2h 33m 58s)
Standby 29%
Phone Idle 22%
Wifi 4%
Android System 3%
Broswer 2%
Quick question for advanced users, I noticed that Android sys info says up time without sleep is just over 4 huors while the phone settings says 2h 33m, any idea which one is more accurate? I'm assuming up time without sleep = time screen is on.
Switch off GPS. I read about it and how it improved batteries. Bloody true. Its great advice.

Time without sleep = time screen is on
IF nothing isn't keeping the phone awake.
The phone setting says 2h 33m because it counts the time that the phone was asleep AND the screen was off.
The real percentage is the one Android sys info gives you.
It is rather normal for the phone to have slightly more awake time that screen on time, as some applications work even when the screen is off (push Gmail, the clock, some widget etc...).
As long as your wake time is not 100%, you're just fine.

Hi everyone. I had NAND installed on my HD2 now for about a month and a half. One of the things that I haven't seen on my phone is better battery life. This is the first phone I have with a data plan so I'm really not sure how much of the battery drains with data. Here is my daily routine. I charge my phone overnight, by 11am-12pm my phone is just about dead. I put it on the charger until about 4pm; usually it's fully charged by then. By the time 10pm comes around it's almost dead again. Doesn't seem like good battery life to me. Someone please let me know if I'm missing something.
Thank you all!
Depends on what you're doing with your hd2.
If you spend a lot of time on the internet with either wifi or 3g, then that drains battery pretty quickly, as with any device. Playing games or watching videos is the same thing, although to a hiigher extent with games. Keeping the phone screen on is also one way to drain battery quickly.
You should install current widget and monitor your standby times, etc. In standy by, your phone should be consuming 4~6 mA ideally.
If you want to monitor your battery usage, first download and install CurrentWidget, enable logging while the phone is on standby to see your standby usage.
Second, need to check battery usage on standby after a call, there are some kernels with a known bug that prevents the phone from going to sleep, consuming 60ma on standby.
Third, Do a battery calibration, it does help a lot if you have never calibrated your battery, android tend to mess up battery reading after a while of not being calibrated. There's a thread about in on forums, search for it, REALLY good info there.
Fourth! check out if you are in a zone with crappy 3G, if the phone has to turn 2g/3g off and on too often it drains battery like whoa.
Fifth, take note of max and min voltage readings with CurrentWidget, your battery might by wearing out (should be maxing at 4.2v and min around 3.3v - 3.6v depending on kernel).
Another thing, before your phone dies, check out battery usage on Settings, see if any program is eating your battery, and check out how long has your screen been on, and post it here
I've always had WAY better battery in Android, even SD, than WMo, MSN/push email killed battery in WMo in about 6 hours, without use, just standby. Android get up to 4 days in standby with Gtalk/Gmail/Exchange Mail, all on Push, along with weather and twitter. With hardcore usage, the battery last between 6 and 7 hours top (Screen on for 4-5 hours), while Gaming, it wont last more than 4 hours (CPU at 100%, Screen always on, GPU at 100%, Brightness 100%).
Normal usage (between 40 mins and 1 hour of Google Maps with GPS on, between 3 and 4 hours of music thru Bluetooth with my car, 10-15 mins talking, about 20-30 SMSs and quite a bit of Gtalk) it makes it thru the day, lasting about 12-14 hours.
Such a low battery life is probably cause your phone is not going to sleep, it should be at 2-5 mah on standby.
Hope it helps
I can play an hour of pokemon (gba rom), listen to pandora whenever im in the car, surf the net for an hour or two, and with a total constant usage of about 5 hours, and at the end of the day ill be left with 30% battery still.
If I don't use it often it will last 40 hours +.
Maybe try a different nand rom?
Im running hyperdroid nand
Zephyrot and kangpeter, Im jealous of your battery life. I'll try what was posted. Thanks for the replies!
Hey there, I really have on problem with my N4 since I own it:
From time to time my battery drain just goes huge. For me it feels like that is everytime I go out and have my phone in my jeans pocket. So at some point I thought I would press the button to active the display all the time.. but thats not happening (according to GSAM Battery Monitor).
I had all 4.2.x stock ROMS + stock Kernel and also with Franco Kernel. I always had this problem from time to time.
Signal is there, there is no significant battery drain from any app. The % of each app is normal and I also dont use any app more than usually. I don't have new apps.. everything is like always. Still my battery goes from 100% to 0% withint ~ 6 hours (30 mins SOT).
Any ideas? My battery is at 47-50 Celsius, the cores go offline as they are supposed to. I tried reboots in between e.g. in case an app is bugging. But actually all apps are as usual :/
Thanks
@edit: it also happens when the phone is on my table.. i just had it with 17% left on my table, didnt touch it.. after 30 mins it was off because the battery was empty. wtf ?
The biggest battery suckers are radios and the screen. I turn off wifi, GPS and BT whenever I'm not using them. Keep a short timeout for the screen.
Unfortunately, six hours doesn't sound too far off from normal if you've got things running. I'd go through an entire battery cycle watching a 2-hour 1080p movie. Overnight, my battery dropped about 15% while only bluetooth and GSM were on. The N4 isn't really known for good battery life :\
BT is off. In general my battery holds up one day without any problems. But sometimes it goes down within a few hours and I dont know why.
Possibly a scheduled background service? Maybe Google Sync is pushing a whole bunch of data periodically?

Hmm no not really. Also, it would happen every day or in some interval. Not just on random days?
besides that I dont use any syncing and also it would be shown in the GSAM Battery Monitor or general battery usage ?
I dare not say I'm a professional in battery saving, but I did break the 8 hour SOT on N4(minimum brightness of course).
Let's see, I only use 2G, because I only need internet for Whatsapp, and I greenify every single other apps.
You might undervolted too much according to your signature. -200mv might reduce heat but consume 1.2-1.5x more battery than normal voltage, its hard to explain, but its the truth, try -150 then -100.
Since you're on Franco, reduce the vibration a little, as for scheduler, I personally prefer Deadline on 2048. Governor definitely interactive, and freqs at 1.2Ghz. Because personally I dare-say at 1.2 Ghz you can run most apps almost instantly.
Like the second post said, Off wifi, GPS and bluetooth. Under settings > location settings> one is GPS and another is google location, off both. And you might still even have NFC on? No idea in this.
Download an app called build.prop editor or kernel tuner.
Modify build.prop a little. Add in pm.sleep_mode=1 and change the value of wifi.supplicant_scan_interval to 600 or 900.
Disable auto brightness and fix to something you like but below 50% .
I am not on -200 anymore.. -100 all the time
i also use greenify for nearly all my apps.
GPS, BT is turned off, Wifi normally too (tasker is doing that, depening on GSM antenna reachable or not).
The other tips are really nice but should affect the battery drain THAT much ?
Thanks !
As a little update:
It seems like this only happens at certain locations ?!
E.g. at work.. everything disabled (wifi, BT, gps, etc) .. even Tasker is disabled incase it was bugging -> about 10% for 30 minutes.
I have full connection bar to my carrier.. what the hell is that ? Battery temps are normal, same apps running as I had running when I was at home. I don't even use the phone but as soon as I get to work and my phone gets a carrier signal, the battery graph shows a rapid drop.
19:34 - 61%
20:03 - 54%
20:20 - 48%
20:54 - 38%
21:20 - 31%
Battery sitting at 37 Celsius... why.. why why ? :S
Alright now I know when my battery is crashing:
as soon as I turn off and I connect to my carrier. but why? Normally it should be exactly the other way. When WiFi is on and connect, the battery drain should become higher.
But as soon as I leave a WiFi, my phone gets hot and looses A LOT of battery very quickly.
Any ideas ? I have full signal.. but in any case.. I have the same signal as I also when while connected to Wifi.
e.g. at home with wifi - good battery life. but as soon as I turn the wifi off -> battery loss !
Hi guys,
Hope you all doing great.
Guys i have LG V20 n using from last year. It was working great without any issue. Battery timing was awesome. Giving me 5:30 to 6 hours screen on time. Almost day and Half on normal use. 2 days back something happened no idea what. Now phone idle using more then screen on time and wifi is always on even its off. I tired to uninstall app, then factory reset but still same.... No luck.... Any solution ??
Go to your location setting use the tab in upper right, click setting and turn wifi scanning off.

Try to install battery monitor application (I use betterbatterystats) to find out what is causing your idle drain. But to be honest, I've never got 5-6 SOT. My idle drain is about 0,7% per hour with greenify, managed Google play services wakeup, custom kernel, kernel adiutor and about 80 apps on board.
I'll try and help the best I can..
Within the last year or so..I have been reading about this issue quite often. That is, people posting about "Phone Idle" having high percentage in battery stats. And then they are off to hunt down the culprit. The truth is, "Phone Idle" is NOT eating up your battery. Phone Idle is just that.... Time the phone has spent being idle (being still, or CPU/Battery not being used). Or in this case, percentage of total battery "usage" that belongs to "Phone Idle". In actuality, phone idle isn't "using" anything. The "usage" for phone idle is really time NOT used. A higher percentage is better. If your phone sat for 2 days straight without being used...the phone idle % will be real high. Also, you can't "Greenify" phone idle. You only greenify phone idle when you greenify other apps.....think about it.
And as for Wifi. The Wifi radio on this phone is a bit more power hungry. It doesn't even include any power saving options that some phones, like my Samsung S4 has. My S4 used on average from 2% - 6% depending on signal strength. The V20 can use from 7% - 11% ..again depending on signal strength. If you leave Wifi on overnight and it's in bad proximity to the router..10-11% is normal.
What is your average signal strength for your 4G and cellular (calls)? CDMA has 1X, I'm not sure what GSM uses. If it's in the high 90's and higher, that right there could be chewing up your battery. Phone radio often doesn't even show on the usage list.
How often do you need to charge? Also how much time between a charge and what is your usual screen on time now..after you wrote this post? Phone idle is only at the top because the "idle" time now exceeds the amount of time you have your screen on. ......don't take this the wrong way but some people think the phone idle is actually something that's draining the battery. It's not..it's just placed within the list. Ignore the Mah it shows for it. That just assumes it's some app and it tries to convert everything into mah..and I really don't know how accurate that is. But it obviously doesn't apply to Phone Idle. Speaking of...what is the amount of phone idle time?
