yes, i was only looking at the .5 because i know .3 was just out recently...and thats what my phone was before i updated it after unrooting...didn't pay attention to the fact it said 3.29...and not 3.30.
so yes, it is old. but i got phone fixed and back to rooted.

Gee thank, it's only been two months... ha

3.29.651.3/.5 Both are for 003 and older hardware.
3.30.651.2/.3. Supposedly just for 004 and newer hardware. Sprint never released this to 003 and older hardware.

I tried to do an OTA update on the replacement 003 EVO I got today... no dice.
But you can flash rooted versions of 3.30.651.2/3 on 003 rooted hardware. I did on mine a while ago without issue.

that is not true. I purchased a new phone from best buy an evo 4g on 11-5-2010
it has Version 4 for hard ware and the older software as well.
So what gives? new hard ware version and older software?

Did you try updating the phone? It should be on 3.30

Just to make things more confusing, I got an EVO from BB just over a week ago and here's how it breaks down:
Hardware version - 0003
Software number - 3.30.651.3
So I guess I've got the old hardware with the newest (?) software.

[Q] Froyo on the way?

I just read on Vibrant xda forum that Bhman/Eugene737 just posted a froyo rom on Vibrant yesterday.Does that mean Epic devs bout to have a port for us?
Check out the Vibrant xda section they have youtube video, rom gets 13 on Quadrant.
That would be ridiculous if it was made for the epic, the epic is vastly different from the other SGS phones

Let see, physical keyboard, front camera, flash, file system, CDMA radio (Vibrant has a GSM radio), 4G radio. Yeah not different at all.

Well they both have an AMOLED screen and the Hummingbird processor...
Even if you were to get the Vibrant rom running on the Epic (after taking into account the differences in the file system) the phone would still be unusable. The Vibrant uses a different radio for phone calls, and data (3 and 4 G). So it would be pretty much useless as a phone.
When it comes down to it, this is still a galaxy s phone. But I don't think we should get excited until we see a port onto the fascinate, which is like the only other cdma galaxy s but more intune with the international version

Agreed, CDMA is definitely the kicker as we have no way of getting that from a vibrant port. Other than that it isn't that ridiculously complicated to port it to our phone so yes once we see the fascinate get it then we will be on a roll.

But then again... Who knows?
end of November.” now
Late last week, Samsung announced that the Froyo or Android 2.2 update would finally be coming to the Galaxy S smartphone this week.
It seems that this won’t be the case, however, as the firm has issued an update via its official Twitter channel.
Samsung tweeted: “The Froyo upgrade will be available in the UK from early November and we expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November.”
So, early November could mean two to three more weeks before it lands on Kies, the company’s own Windows based upgrade platform, with operators pushing it out after that. The cause of the delay is unknown.
The Froyo update will bring a number of new features to the very popular Galaxy S, including a speed boost, full Flash support and device tethering, along with Google Maps GPS navigation plus voice guidance.

That is Samsun'g official Twitter channel for the U.K. That timing corresponds to a new press release from Samsung for the U.K. The "all operators" referred to, quite obviously, are the telecom operators in that market.
The corresponinding Twitter site for the U.S. says there is no ETA yet.
And the earlier announcemetn you mentioned was also about overseas markets.

Dissappointing, I look foward to Evo updates .
So basically you shouldn't run a rom based off the 3.30.651.2 ruu unless you have that specific hardware? All those changes that we thought were camera fixes in the update are just driver changes for a different camera. Interesting, no wonder there's been no word on an official ota.

Yea. The 3.30 base is intended for 004 evos. I tried it out and only had issues with draining and camera stability. I'm back at 3.29. Let's just say there is a huge ota coming in late December or early January. Many sooner but that's what I'm hearing.

Possibly. but 3.30 does nothing but improves the camera for 004 evos, so there is really no point as 3.29 works great and better (for 001-002-003 Evos.) I mean, the kernel is even downgraded in 3.30 compared to 3.29. Just wait it out guys, we have a nice update coming soon.

How come t-moble cares about old phones but sprint does not?
@firehawk if you get the update just download it and use adb to pull it off your phone and 7zip (or extraction tool of your choice) to open it up and have a looksy. You don't have to install it right away or at all.
By the way sprint doesn't care about us anymore

You can't compare the MyTouch 3G (MT3G)and the Hero. Have you thought of the fact that the MT3G is based off the simple AOSP? It's as basic as it gets for the Android update process. Google effectively did most of the work, and HTC/T-Mobile just takes it and makes it compatible with the MT3G.
The Hero is built on the Sense framework. So that whole thing needs to be redone for 2.2... so HTC/Sprint has to do a lot more work than it did for the MT3G. As a company with something like a dozen newer Android devices, it's just not economical to spend resources on maintaining it. It sucks, but that's how the tech industry works (and that's also why we have awesome developers working on CM6 for us).
It seems to me with another update they could've given us froyo. I bet that this new update will mess up root again so I'm not going to update it til it can be used with root.

One reason is Samsung is lazy. They have been known to leave their customers hanging, like that awful Behold II incident where customers were promised 2.1 and instead Samsung abandoned everyone with 1.6. Even their high end Galaxy S is taking them until Jan or Feb next year to come out. Even if the Moment is built on AOSP it doesn't mean Samsung can just cut and paste the Google code and be done with it. They have to actually do some work to get it fully compatible, but I suspect Samsung does not want to invest in the amount of effort required to do so. I expect Samsung would have many different components and required drivers from HTC devices, so getting them compatible with 2.2 might be giving the sdx devs some trouble.

Well, the i9000 is pretty much just a Nexus S without the NFC.
Since the CDMA changes are apparently more complicated than Samsung can manage, we won't see Gingerbread for at least 12 months.
As a side note, I find it funny that after Sprint pulled their 2.2 update, it seems none of the Verizon release rumors held true (i.e. they pulled theirs).
Indicating a lot of these problems are due to Samsung Programming Sucktitude.

Official HTC Droid Incredible Gingerbread OTA

Well the HTC EVO 4G received their official OTA yesterday from sprint and we are scheduled to get it by the end of this month as well which means custom gingersense kernels will come soon after. Just putting this out there for people who want to know the news about the update and yes the OTA will break root.
Right on, which also means that the Unrevoked team will have to work on their root exploits AFTER the OTA to once again achieve root. Hopefully it won't be like the last OTA (or 2 OTA's ago?) where it broke root, and there were nothing but threads about not having it...you'd a thought people were going to die, and all they had to do was wait about a week or so.
My question is, can it put you S-ON? Because even the RUU can't do that. So even if you were on a stock rom, with S-OFF, and received the OTA, you could still root through CWM.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What does that mean for us that are rooted and running custom Rom's? If I were to just let it run the OTA with root and custom Rom? Would it just overwrite the whole phone with new update and replace everything on my phone with updated stock gingerbread/Rom? Or will I need to restore my stock Rom backup and then unroot the phone to s-on and then let it OTA?

Sure, Sense 1.0 is kinda lame. But its probably for the best. It's definitely lighter on resources, and the phone manual would still apply. Not much of an issue since the Inc isn't shipping anymore. But the EVO is. So they might have had to rewrite some of the manual for sense 2.1. But I think it has more to do with available memory. All these gingersense roms are great, but they sure do use a lot more.

I don't care what people say about Sense 2.1 on the Inc. It's working great for me. The bottom line is that the Inc isn't being made anymore, so there is absolutely NO incentive for HTC to put 2.x Sense on it. If your Inc broke for instance, and you could get an official 2.x Sense'd phone, you'd be more likely to pick up a used Inc as opposed to a newer phone. I've had my Inc going on almost a year, and I can honestly say I don't really need to "upgrade" my phone. I typically upgrade to a newer phone every year..... If I last that long! I had my ATT Fuze (aka HTC Raphael, aka Touch Pro) for like 3 or 4 months before "upgrading". Bottom line is, the Inc is a great phone, it's capable of running Sense 2.x, but HTC wouldn't be doing themselves any good to go through the effort of putting it on the Inc since it's an EOL product.....

No they said by the end of Q2[which is the end of this month]
Does anyone know if the new Gingerbread with Sense running on the EVO has a better email client than the stock GB mail client (which bites)? I use SkyRaider 4 with Sense 2 on the Froyo platform, but MIUI on the GB platform with LauncherPro to make it as Sense-like as possible. Since the GB mail client neglected the 'Search' functionality, I had to buy the Enhanced Mail client (I'm and Exchange user), but there is no scrolling widget for this. A Sense-based GB rom with a Sense-based mail client would solve all my problems. Bottom line, has anyone seen the Sense Mail client on the new GB-based EVO?

Got mine during the first release week. Keeping my eyes peeled for the SGS II only because it's the only thing that looks interesting to date.
So basically we all want something thats not going to happen?
