Question about Froyo - Epic 4G General

Ok I had this problem on my Hero when I put froyo on it but thought it was just because it was the Hero and froyo wasn't "offically" made for it. When I move apps to my sd card and plug in my usb cable those apps dissapear from my homescreen. That's fine while its plugged in....I get it that you can't use those apps while the sd card is mounted, but when I unplug it those apps dnt show back up and I hae to reassign them to the homepage. Is this normal for froyo or is this just a byproduct of our froyo beta release?

Everyone wanted aps2sd, google gave us aps2sd...its still buggy and not well thought through. i know widgets are garbage on the sd cards, but app short cuts should be fine..

Supposedly a number of issues, one with mounting the SD card. Found my Win7 machine stopped recognizing my Fascinate. Found a workaround off of teh VWZ site, but angry people.
From teh vzw post:
Seems to be related to some new 'Media sync' option.
I did some playing around and the following seemed to let me 'mount'
the phones as before. ( But I don't like it. )
Hoping for some direction from Verizon tech on
a) what is media sync ?
b) how do I turn off permanently If I dont need or want to use it?
Unplug phone from usb cable.
Then on Phone... Menu...Settings..USB settings
Change to ' Ask on connection'.
then press home button.
Plug in USB cable.
When prompted...Press 'Mass storage'.
Now wait...wait..wait. Took about 30 to 45 seconds.
Annunciator bar should have usb symbol. Drag it open.
Press usb connected....Press Mount..
My laptop now recognized the SD card on E drive.
Copy files as usual.
When done...Open Anunciator bar and 'Turn Off' USB storage.
Sometimes when connecting I would see 'Media sync connecting'..press to Cancel. So I'd cancel.
I did the ota update

Install a DJ05/DL09 compatible voodoo5 kernel, such as adrynalyne's DL09 test kernels he just posted in the dev section. Your complaints sound like the typical RFS lag issues to me. Voodoo5 should take care of them.
I am having an issue with my Mac OS X 10.6 not recognizing my Fascinate anymore after the DL09 update. I downloaded the new Media software that Verizon has, but that doesn't even help it recognize my phone.
Thankfully, Airsync for Doubletwist still works.
Yes, the lack of Mac USB mounting support has been stated here at least a dozen times over in other threads, and is a widely known bug.
Just FYI, if you have installed Clockworkmod, you can always boot into recovery and mount the SD card from there. Or a micro SD card reader works too.

Sd card unexpectedly removed - big problem

I've done quite a bit of searching around this but haven't got much answers..
I'm getting this problem about 2-3 times a day lately. Sometimes I can get through a day or two without it but its extremely annoying.
Using revolution HD rom with the standard 8gb card that comes with the desire HD.
Does anyone else have this problem much and is there any better solution than having to reboot the phone?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Defragment your sd card in windows or use the chkdsk tool!
Sent from my DHD running Android Revolution 5.1.4 using Tapatalk
Its definitely a problem with the card. When my card, the one that came with the phone, broke I was about to play some music and it got through like half a song before every single song started skipping and it said "Unable to play this type of audio file" on each one. When it got to the end of the playlist it said "Insert a memory card you twit". Well, those werent the exact words but you get what I mean
Your card may still be fixable if you format it, defragmenting does nothing on flash memory and SSD drives as it is a whole different architecture to HDD's for which defragmenting is designed.
So, do a format of the card and see what happens.

do you use es file explorer?
Thanks for the suggestions, I tried doing a full format but no luck. The card seems to perform fine otherwise, just this happens randomly every other day.
I'm wondering is it anything to do with the rom, can't remember if it used to happen on stock or not but fairly sure it did :/

it s happened to me with the root explorer option on the file manager...i ve uninstalled the prog and installed it again from the market and it s ok...(sorry pour mon anglais)
It happens on mine if the phone shuts down or I switch it off. I just unpop the card and then reinsert it. That seems to do the trick.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I would get another memory card to test with and if that doesnt work I would consider installing a custom ROM which are far more stable and feature rich than anything HTC puts out.
From a friend
I got a friend that had 2 sd cards fried by a DHD.
Maybe there is something problematic on the hardware side ... faulty contacts/springs or something. try other cards/clean contacts with industrial alcohol.
Mine has no problem. Removed the card couple of times (>10) and for the moment no problems.
Hope u can fix it.
Samsung 8G Class2 Sd Card unexpectedly removed happen more than 3 times a day.
This seems to have been fixed for me since switching/upgrading to Cyanogenmod 7. Will report back here if it happens.
Any updates here? My problem started happening after getting my unit repaired under warranty. Same OS, same card. Tried several cards and they all have the same problem. Considering that pull & reinsert solves the problem, as does simply rebooting, I'm betting that this is a bug that is either software related or can be easily fixed in software.
I've been having the same problem too. It seems to be completed random when it happens. Nothing I can particularly put my finger on which is causing it. Using RCMix3D Bliss version 1.3 ROM and standard 8GB card that came with the phone
Yeah the problem seems to span across software versions, meaning that it likely has it's root at the hardware level, but there must be an easy software fix to avoid this problem...
I am using the latest MIUI rom and when I surf in the stock gallery for a while the SD removes after a few seconds. It not happens using other apps (for now...)

Need to know what ROM you're on.
I was on EE03 (Leaked rom) and it kept vibrating as if I was plugging in the USB every 2 minutes.
Same problem with mp3 and notification sounds, amazon player, pandora do not work as well.
Phone still rings.
the only way to fix is to reboot.
I'm full stock EC05 after OTA from EB13 OTA.
Extremely annoying because I cannot pinpoint the moment it happens.
Problem never happened on 2.1 and started after upgrading to EB13.
I have it happen to. I unmount and remount the sd card and it works fine.

It happens on my GF's phone. It will ring just fine then randomly only vibrate, then start ringing again. Even using built in ringtones from the phone. She is on Bonsai 3.0.1. I think it is the phone. I get cold sweats everytime I mess with her phone...she is so picky about where everything is.
I had this problem with my moment. The fix was to plug a jack into the headphone jack. Try it and see if it fixes the issue.

[REF/REQ] My "fried" SD card fixed itself ..**verified by another xda'er**

I will be as short winded as possible - but I want to put detail together so that the awesome devs here can gain as much info to try and see if any of this can help to solve the elusive SD card fry..
I'm not kidding when I say my borked SD card fixed itself while in the phone this afternoon. Here is a detailed list of what took place today.
ROM: MIUI 1.8.5
Kernel : Glitch 11.1 HL
*** I noticed phone being very unresponsive/laggy first thing this morning. ran fine before i left for work but when i leave i switch to 3G, with switching from WIFI to 3G i saw a strange message in the status bar that flashed 2x for about 2 seconds each time that said "URL NOT FOUND" and then 3G kicked on.. i had to airplane mode it because data was showing as working but it wasnt. switched out of airplane 3G running fine.
*** drove to work, sitting in parking lot playing with phone before work.. while using the feedly app to read news, it suddenly froze and gave a COM.PROCESS error with force close.. i left that and it wouldnt let me back in to feedly. i then tried facebook. got a white screen and same - COM.PROCESS force close. the phone rebooted itself and came back up with the notifier in status bar about "SD CARD INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT OR NOT PRESENT" .. nothing i could do at that point, since i wouldnt be near a computer all day. all the apps worked fine all day, just no SD card.. this is the 2nd "fry" i have had..first was on JT kernel last week.
*** about 2pm, my phone chirped at me that i had a text message. i opened gmail first, since i had an email sitting there...read that, and as soon as i opened the text message (which was an MMS actually - a video to be precise) a pop up opened and said something to the effect of "USING SD STORAGE CAN ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE, TURN ON NOW?" with an ok button.. i pushed OK and bing - sd card was working again.
the video MMS somehow triggered something that got the sd card to be readable again. its been running fine the last 2 hours, no error messages.
I hope this can help someone dig deeper and/or go in another direction to find the source of the sd card bug..
thanks for the info!
My SD Card fried while running CM7. Will try to send myself an mms to see if I get the same prompt.
GunM3tal - It was an mms video .. im not sure if that makes a difference.
I am also VERY curious what that "URL NOT FOUND" when switching from WIFI to 3G means.. ive never seen that message before.. and i have been running MIUI for 3 of the last 4 weeks.
something is trying to connect to the internet, or something is constantly connected to a URL and in the 3 second lag between WIFI and 3G its not connected.. that worries me..
Does that have something to do with frying the card? what url is the phone trying to connect to? what program? i havent downloaded anything new lately, and nothing out of the ordinary is in task manager...
Sweet! Seems to be a working exploit.

My sd card couldn't be read for a couple of days while I was on miui 7/22 and glitch a few weeks ago. Then I noticed one day it was working again. Maybe it was an mms that got it running
I just tried this method. Had my wife send me a video mms with my fried stock 16gb card in. I had the option to reformat after that, lo and behold it formatted, no problem.
What the F***!
Maybe now we can figure out how to address the problem so it doesn't happen again.
Edit: btw, I'm on 7/22 miui. I put my other card back in that I've been using and it said damaged, I rebooted and it came back. So for those who try this, don't freak out, just try a reboot if the same thing happens.

Hahah that's the weirdest **** I've read on this forum so far. So glad that people that "fried" their cards can now get them working again.

Before giving this a shot not a single thing would format it, not even the option from the notification bar
My card was damaged this morning. I am running cm7 7/14 with gb bootloader from jt and his v3 kernal. My friend messed his phone up at work and needed to borrow mine to edit a sdcard file. So I unmounted my card and removed it. Put his card in and mounted sd boom damaged sd card. Then put mine back in and it said damaged sd card. I left the card in and rebooted phone. The card mounted with no problem during the boot while u can see the lock screen.
Sd card works fine but I will not removing it again!!!!! That was a close call this morning. Hope this info helps someone if not I just got very lucky

I predict that you will have continuing problems with those SD cards now. While I was able to do the same with my backup SD card, it has continued to degrade. Certain apps can't access the card as of yesterday and CWM recovery is iffy on mounting it. Curiously, 4.0.1.4 (orange) is hit or miss, but 4.0.1.0 (blue) can access it but has trouble performing flashes or nandroid restores. Probably because we're not supposed to use three button recovery with jt's vanilla GB.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
from what it appears it depends on what happens exactly to the card...some people like me get the unrecognized/incompatible format - no sd card inserted error, and some get the sd card is damaged error.
so far from this thread, my card was completely fine (i had the incompatible format issue) with this "fix" and the damaged sd card that nobody could format is now formattable (is that a word?)
so i would assume a few things...
1. use mms video from another phone to send it to the fascinate with the borked card in the phone.
2. (TOTAL GUESS) you should probably be on the same build (e.g. miui/cm7) that you were on when it borked the first time.
3. it *should* give you the option to do something with it - either fix it, or be able to format it.
thats all any of us know right now. but whatever signal MMS videos send to the SD card to wake it up is what can be traced back to the system...maybe the SD card now gets the "SLEEP OF DEATH" like the system did with some kernels..deep sleep for the sd card? who knows...thats why i posted this in the DEV section..these devs are light years smarter at figuring this out than me. i know just enough to be dangerous
rock on..

Mr. Jake, I believe what you had, what I believe, is a soft-burned sd card. What this means is, reboots would have been a simple remedy for your "damaged" or "blank" sd card.
There comes a point when it's a HARD burned card and there's no turning back from it. If 5 reboots doesn't fix your sd card, might as well buy a new one, which is what I did.
this BURNING issue seems to be more apparent in the 8.5 MIUI. I'm hoping the 8.19 MIUI will fix the 3G glitches as well as a permanent proactive fix for the sd card burning problem.

cool cool.. i just got excited because it seemed to fix the issue first - and second, may give the devs the ability to find out what is causing the issue in the first place since they can trace a sd card commit that does *something* to modify the glitch..
something to work with is better than guessing..
im still learning this developing thing..so many failures and very few successes with modding for me.. so any bit of help i can give is something i treasure after getting so much from this group...
Hmm I wonder if this would work on the Inc2 to fix a borked sdcard.

[Q] Screen wake up lag since KitKat update

Hey guys
I updated to the OTA KitKat update, and now have a rather irritating issue that I did not have before. My phone is not rooted, and I'm not using an s-view flip case. I've tried using different lock screens, but it makes no difference.
Since the update, if I press the power button or home button to wake the screen, it sometimes takes 3 - 5 seconds to actually turn on. The strange thing is that if I turn the screen off, then back on within a minute or two, it's as fast as it should be at turning back on. But if the phone sits, untouched, for ten minutes or longer, it takes forever to turn on.
I tried wiping the cache partition, and disabled S voice wake up commands, and double tap to launch S voice.
Any ideas?
Do you have an SD card? That has been known to cause that issue.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I do have one, but it's an old crummy one. Does a bad one cause it? Or a lack of an SD card?
Thanks
Actually having one in your phone has caused that lag before. If you don't have one in your phone then not sure.

I disabled double tap home to open S voice. I don't want to completely disable S voice, because in conjunction with S for switch voice, it's a very handy tool!
Since I removed the SD card, it has been performing as it should. Must have been the SD card all along. I feel a bit guilty starting a thread about this, when there is already information out there about SD cards causing lag, but but my problem didn't start until immediately after upgrading from JB to KK, and I've had this phone since launch day. Made me think it was a different issue. One again the awesome community at xda helped me out, and quickly!

I'm not complaining because I had a really old, crappy 8gb SD card, and I stored nothing on it. Didn't even need it. I assume an updated sd card wouldn't have this problem, but that's just an assumption on my part.
