Hi guys, running HTC Magic with cyanogenmod 6.0.0 here.
I have all my contacts phone numbers stored as like 0-41-11-12345, where the "41" is my carrier number so I can make long distance calls when out of town (no need to edit the contact). However I get all SMS messages identified as 0-11-12345 (no carrier number) so the phone does not "link" that sender with my actual contact... I have to search through all my contacts every time I get a new SMS (to see who sent me the message) because I can only see the source number.
Any ideas on how to solve that?
Thanks!

When my XDAII receive a call it does recognize the number but strangely it does only link the number (any number) to only one contact in my list.
I tryed to delete this contact to see what happens but it link witha nother but use it along for all calls.
Can you help me?
Thanks
Felipe
Can you dial a number by tapping it from your contacts list?
In some cases yes in others no, this is because in some numbers there is the area code that the XDAII does not recognize because we use 011 here in my country. If I clear that the number can be dialed from the contact list.
So, are you saying that when you receive a call from a phone number which is properly formatted (for your phone to dial it) in your contacts list, it still won't ID the correct number? Remember, it is a simple pattern matching algorithm - it gets a call, looks in your contacts list for a number formatted EXACTLY as it receives it, and displays that contact.
I followed this logic but it wont work to explain what is happening
Hi xda2 users, I dont seem able to find a thread on this issue. Perharps I have wrong configuration.
The problem is this. Got sms-es, but unable to view the sender in the inbox. It display the sender's full phone number instead. It is not wise if we have to guess or find in the contacts.
Since we are in XDA2, anyone using photo contacts? I remove caller_id at startup and is it why it wont work? Hehe, try for fun. Thanks.
Well, I am able to see caller name from the Contacts (not sim card) when the person call. So, I dont think this is a problem of me removing caller id at start up. Could it be that the format for the humber in contacts and sms inbox is different?
For example, my contacts number format is (016) 123-4567. Tested that it can be used to call, too lazy to change all to normal number since this is previous iPaq format. Meanwhile sms inbox no is of +0161234567.
Please advise. Thanks.
Hehe, it is solved  I type wrong phone number for testing. Hehe.
All the telephone numbers in my address book are stored in international format e.g. +44 +64 etc.
When I reference my address book to complete the 'To:' section of an SMS it pulls in the number but without the '+' sign. This prevents the SMS being sent without the '+' being entered manually.
Does anyone else experience this problem and has anyone found a fix.
Thanks.
i just made an entry where i put in the +45 in the first part of the telephone nr and then made a new sms and clicked to: and choose the freshly made contact and i get the whole nr in my case +45234567 (random nr dont try to call it at home )
i'm using the 1.66 rom and sync with the outlook 2k i got for free with my xda2 (qtek2020)
Thanks for that. I'm on 1.03.00 so I'll look for a ROM upgrade.
I just found your forum and have bee reading throught it for the past few days.
I think this is a great forum as I just purchased an Imate Jam and have resolved several problems from the forum members.
I have one strange occurance on my Jam that I do not know how to fix.
I received SMS's from my service which I do not have the contact number in my address book.
The sms message put's a name from my contacts that is not associtaed with teh SMS. When I deleted teh contact it showed another (The next time I received an SMS).
How to fix this?
It is not a problem...
You mean u got a message from your Service Provider right?
It is possible to send messages without a number in the from field instead it comes with a name. Providers usually send messages like that for conveniance...
It is also possible to do through a software in my Sony Ericsson p910i called iSMS maybe it's one of your friends playing a prank on you...
Let me explain a little bit more.
The message I received is from my service provider 100%.
However, in the SMS inbox it seems to list a name in the from field which belongs to one of my contacts.
Now What I did is remove that contact and waited fro another SMS from my service provoder.
What happened is the from field nows shows some other name that is in my contacts.
My question is, how does the SMS application detrmine the from?
When I had a nokia 6600 it just displayed a number.
Try to find some commonality in the contact like perhaps the first few digits or the last few digits are the same in that case what the provider is doing is that he's sending a message from a special number such as 646, 501 etc... in that case if your numers are not in the international format the phone picks up the nearest alternative name to the number and displays it.. if u save your contact details in international format it does not happen...
e.g +91 ..... in case of numbers from india...
Thanks
Ok I will give that a Try.
How can you tell what number the SMS is from.
When I open it, it just shows the name it has choosen but no number.
Hi guys.
Whenever someone calls to me the number only appears instead of their contact name in the address book. Why is that? The only difference I know of is that all my numbers are stored with the international prefix for my country. But whenever someone calls to me, the number showing is without the prefix.
This worked on all previous HTC and Windows Mobile phones - is this something new on WP7?? Or are there any settings I can edit somewhere?
I feel totally lost!
I also have all my contacts numbers stored with the international prefix, but I don't seem to have the problem you describe.
My contacts sync through Exchange.
Maybe try storing a number without the international prefix, and see if it shows the number or the contact.
In Settings\Applications\Phone there is a setting "International assist" which automatically corrects mistakes while dialing internationally or while abroad. Maybe try turning it on or off.
This is really weird. I too sync my contacts through Exchange, but I don't think that matters.
The weird part is when people call me the incoming call is without international prefix, so when the contact in my address book is stored with the international prefix, it doesn't show who's calling!! If I remove the prefix, it works as it should.
As for the text (SMS) messages they go through the SMS center, which apparently uses the international prefix, so all SMS' I receive are with the prefix so all my contacts which I have stored the prefix on, it displays their names, all without displays with only the number!
Really frustrating!!!!
Any ideas?

I live in Norway as well - could there be something odd with the carrier? I use TalkMore...
Works fine for me here in Austria.
I have stored my Contacts with international prefix and everything works just fine.
Could reall be a carried problem.
It's in the bug thread...

Since this is a general WP7 thing, I just assumed you guys would look in the general WP7 forum
u can save the number with the number code as a home number..!or if u have already the number with the number code in ur "people", save the number without the number code as a home number..!
