I thought it would be a good idea to get together a list of sites that offer stream of TV and or movies that since the Froyo update with flash support now bring this content to our phone. If we could also confirm if it can be used with

- live TV streams for many fti channels, available UK only
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
- offers ondemand BBC TV and Radio blue various BBC live TV UK Only
http://www.lovefilm.com
- all ondemand paid and free items (subscription dependant) work fine
http://www.youtube.com
- Though the youtube app works fine you don't normally have access to the BBC, Channel 4 etc programs which are now accessable via the site.
http://www.five.tv/watch -
- Works but sometimes I find video streams can be "sluggish"
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od
- Plays all content like many best performance in full screen.
http://video.uk.msn.com/ -
- You must set your user Agent to Desktop to be able to use this site
Not Working
http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/ on 3G & WIFI directs you to a WAP version where you can just download video segments of previous programs, the page looks hardly supported.
http://www.virginmedia.com/player - Detects youre on a mobile and states not availble, their are rumours android support is coming??
Unable to test Sky Player but I presume that works maybe subscription based like iphone?
In some instances there are "APPs" available to allow connection to some of the above sites. BBC for example their is a 3rd part app called mplayer which does work on wifi and 3g but the streams are lower quality then the bbc site direct.
Also if you find a brower that works properly with User agents you maybe able to use some of the listed sites as not working though each browser I have tested with user agent support when selecting "desktop" some sites like virginmedia still default to a mobile version.
So there you go please feel free to add your own, im sure there are things like appltv, zune, etc that may work I just don't use any of these :d
Doing some testing and you can get http://video.uk.msn.com/ working if you change the User Agent to Desktop. Tested this in Dolphin HD and it works fine. Sadly though Virginmedia still detects the brower as a mobile version and shows a mobile view. Weirdly so do google.

I tested this using Steel (browser available via the android market). Set it to Desktop user agent and it works just fine. I'm using JK3 Froyo on the Bell network (Canada).

I've been fantasising about getting a Universal for sometime but I dont want to ditch my BA. As I don't see it as being that much of an upgrade to warrant paying & hassle of arguing with O2.
However, I'm on-call for my company and was wondering what the quality of VNC over 3G was like?
Has anyone tried this and is it practical?
.: bump :.
Not sure about over 3G but can imagine it's roughly comparable with normal VNC over broadband. Also depends what version of VNC you use on the exec as there are a couple.
Over wifi on the exec it's pretty good, though I've found that logmein.com is a far better solution - if such an option is open to you. Also found that dynamicdns.com is meant to be good, and allows you just to RDP onto installed terminals.
If none of these are applicable, then VNC on the Exec is just as good/poor as desktop equivalents.
Cheers

Thank gawd Citrix released the latest WM 5.0 compatable version of GoToMyPc Pocket View so now I can remote into my desktop using my handset. GoToMyPC PocketView allows pda owners with a gotomypc subscription to access amd work on any registered machine remotely.
If security is an issue it uses an SSL-encrypted Web site and end-to-end AES 128-bit encryption of the data stream and chat as well as keyboard and mouse input; multiple passwords, including an access code that resides on the host computer and is never transmitted or stored on GoToMyPC servers; and notification when the PC is accessed.
Because the o2 XDA Exec has a 640 x 480 touchscreen and UMTS (3G) capacity it makes life a whole load easier using PocketView than on previous pdas. UMTS has a theoretical speed of 384 kbs so any refresh delay is hardly noticible especially combined with the fact that the software itself pixel refreshes.
Here's a couple of images of it in action!

They seem like the perfect combination for those who intensively work remotely who insist on not having to drag a laptop around with them.
Thats settled then - I'm getting one.
Also what mount are you using in the car?
Brodit Active!
www.dsldevelopments.com are a good supplier (I know the owner and bought the Exec cradle from him)

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet! now that's a mobile office
Was wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction to a remote desktop feature like LogMeIn?
Tried using the Universal to get to LogMeIn but wouldn't work on either IE or Opera.
Have you tried Terminal Services? It's built in...
If you do, have a look for my VJFullscreenTSC.

Logmein works fine for a lot of people, including myself...what problems are you having?
If you did the registry hack that makes pocket IE report that it's a desktop browser, LogMeIn will not recognize your device properly when you attempt to sign in. Make sure PIE is set to all defaults, log in to logmein.com and it should tell you to install a small file called RACtrl.cab From there on out, everything should work great. Good luck!
MJB
hi i have got logmein account and everything works just fine. just one question how can i connet to logmein using terminal services or maybe other app ??? cheers, cudp
Great one
z2r2pc is a great remote access software it has excellent file transfer too.
mbial
Thanks for the suggestion. It works. Setting PIE to default took care of the issue.
Some more info concerning LogMeIn on PPC browsers:
Netfront 3.3 -
Will not show Remote Desktop. However, will allow you to transfer files to and from PDA if you have LogMeIn Pro.
Opera 8.6 -
Remote Desktop will not display when you set the Opera browser as Desktop and not Handheld Device.
Setting up as Handheld Device will have LogMeIn Prompt you over and over again to install their software - hence, it will not work.
As for z2r2pc. since you have to pay for it, I'm not going for it.
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=16879
ehabh - Thanks for the suggestion. If LogMeIn decides to get rid of its free version, I might just go that route.
hi, is there a way to connect to logmein through terminal services client and if not how do i configure it? cheers
YouTube has created a native Windows Mobile application for displaying their videos on your phone, and its pretty good. The user interface is attractive and uses fluid animations, and video quality is also very good, and apparently adaptive to the speed of your own connection. For the latest download link visit m.youtube.com using Pocket IE.

thax for the app
the app is awesome, but can you make it possible for us to download the video? there is a TCPMP that when used with IE, you can visit the website of youtube and click on a video, it will ask if you want to play or save. if you choose to play, it will open TCPMP and plays it. If you choose Save, it will save the file for you....can you add this into an updated version?
He's not the developer of the app buddy, he has posted it here so that everybody can know about and download it. The application is developed by the crew at Google so requests to modify or add new feature should be redirected to them, if possible at all.
very nice indeed!! Great app - thank you very much for your info

Just installed, great app. Much better than the previous version, I can actually use it now without waiting 5mins for the search to be completed.
Updated to 2.2.3, Major update apparently.
Will test and report changes later
Does anyone know of a YouTube app that allows you to login into your account from the device (the way that the Pandora app does)?
If you like skyfire...then this is for you.

I'll have to try it..
its hong kong only
its about time!
daaaaang its about freaking time, there needs to be some more browser competition
it is for hong kong, but i dunno of its bad to do but you can use any 8 digit number that starts with a 9 (thats what hong kong uses for their cell numbers ive read) which is what i did and it allows you to download the trial. i tested it out on a tmobile wing and it runs pretty slow. not sure if its because of the phone itself or the browser but all in all its almost not even worth using on the wing.
Great piece of software, works great in playing flash videos. Much faster than Skyfire and better flash vide quality. Just one question, at me, the seek bar doesn' work in Built in Player. Any ideas ?
will try it out
keeps asking me register and never loads any website
You have to pay to use the servers.......?
good find and thanks .
it's pretty quick but renders pages a little too roughly for me
youtube works , but very choppy video that is un watchable
other flash video do not work
zooming is terrible, it needs some sort of adaptive zoom , otherwise very primitive
interesting text input , similar to iphone ... it opens up a a blank page
buttons and menu are finger friendly
skyfire definitely much more usable but I still prefer my opera mobile 9.5 any day
Thanks, but I prefer Skyfire....
it works only on wm 6 and 6.1 any chance to let it work on wm5? please
I have never seen web browser like that before..it is amusing.. it is the best web browser.. opera 9.7 beta is poor. skyfire may be reach mach5 ability.. it is amazing.. fast and useful..
Great App!
hi i have Galaxy S 2.1
from day one i can enter youtube and watch clips in "full site" version, the buffering is pretty fast and the audio and video is good so i dont get how flash 10.1 works?
if please could someone tell me what are the differences and how it would make my phone better than others (less the 2.2,iphone...etc)
thx in advance
YouTube isn't the only site which uses flash.
There are lots of more sites which use flash and you can use this sites with your android browser (in most cases).
For example there are lots of flash games on the web which you can use or some sites use flash to display their content.

It is true for sites like youtube you won't notice any difference because the Galaxy comes preinstalled with a youtube application (that supports HD) so when clicking youtube links you can choose to play these in the youtube app. What you can't do is play any flash content directly in the browser and this includes youtube. Once the galaxy s gets froyo (new date is now 11th Nov) you will be able to access much more content rich sites mainly asociated with streaming movies. There are users who have had luck streaming from lovefilm, and various bbc, itv sites (tvcatchup.com). Then like mentioned places like http://www.addictinggames.com/ you "should" be able to play games there aswell ... until flash 11 comes out and you no longer can play any flash content anymore as sites start to upgrade to flash11 only

yes i can see some clips from other websites not only youtube my question is
how does flash 10.1 add value? why android now is considered so strong because it has flash 10.1?
i think the biggest deal for me is that I PERSONALLY have a CHOICE as to what I want to use or not. if i don't want flash, i can uninstall/disable it. i chose to set my plug-ins to "on-demand" in my browser settings so i can enable it whenever i wanted. it really is a ***** to have some guy ::COUGH:: steve jobs) telling me what i can & can't use on my 600$ phone.
in a nutshell, well in my nutshell , it's like having car makers saying what mods you can & can't do to your $20k vehicle....so to speak
anyway, that's my take on it. i like the 10.1 flash in 2.2. i think it runs really well when i decide to enable it. just my
