i have a rogers rocket hub and it uses specific dns settings to connect computers and devices too it.
Problem is how would i connect a desire z for Wi-fi? it has worked before on our network with public and open...but now since im using a new network (rogers rocket hub) it requires input of DNS to connect.
any ideas?
SOLVED mods please keep or delete this thread, as i know many other people had similar problems
Solution:
For those using a DNS IP....download a app called DNS Setting from market, using a data connection of some sort......then you can setup all settings in there

the problem is basically whenever i connect through wifi on my xperia x10 somehow i lose connection from the ps3 network or if im not connected in the first place i still cant seem to log in. get some sort of dns error about communication to the server. error #80710102
I have tried several network tests and manual tests to confirm that connecting through my phones wifi is somehow affecting it. however even though i cant connect to the ps3 network the internet itself works fine? and i should add the fact that using my netbooks wifi doesnt seem 2 affect my ps3!
tried looking up the error and tried changing dns server to ones from the open dns server list however that didnt help either.. any ideas?
hope to hear from you soon!! thanks
You could try using static IP address. On one or both devices.

Ya, that's weird. Check the static IP settings. Maybe they're set to the same IP address. If not try setting to different addresses.

I have my htc setup to both internet sharing and Wi-Fi connection on my work PC with a lan connection. On both of these connections e.g. wired USB and wireless i can get the internet for about 3 minutes then it stops working. Is there some sort of block? I did see a while back that the WiFi app has no restrictions...
Any help would be superb.
Cheers

Thats a little odd, there is certainly no block and I have had the wifi router running for a good 30-40 minutes without failing.
what part is failing, is the phone no longer running the wifi router, or is the pc no longer getting internet on that network connection?
If you need help on how to find this info just reply and I can walk you through some more diagnostic steps.
The phone is still running just the internet stops on the machine. I have to stop the wi fi on the phone then start again then connect. I think it might be t-mobile but the internet on the phone is fine
are you in the uk?
if you connect your laptop to the phone via the wifi router you should be able to right click the network logo, click on status and view the wifi network info, it should tell you in there if it has internet access on that network connection.
If you try this again and when it fails check this status window and see if windows is seeing an internet connection or not?
when the net fails again try and visit http://72.14.203.100/ (this should be the google homepage) if you see google then there is a dns problem if it still says network timeout or failed to connect or something like that then we will have to dig further.
LOL thanks for your help. I am in the UK. ive been working in IT for the last 12 years and I know and have done the test, its not the machine it has something to do with the phone or t-mobile network
Sorry to hijack your thread a little, but I'm on the T-Mobile Network in the UK too (except I'm using a Touch Pro with a custom ROM), and although I can make connections from the PC to websites using the IP address, the DNS isn't working so I can't resolve domain names.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve.

It must be the phone then since I do use wifi router, I am on t-mobile and in the UK and I do not experience this :S
I seem to be saying this more and more but maybe you should try a hard reset and see if that fixes the problem?

This is likely an issue with the way your machine has been setup to connect to the wifi network. Try visting the properties of the network and vieing the dns settings for the tcp/ipv4, It should be set as Obtain DNS server addresses automatically. If it is set like this then try setting it too 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 these are googles, dns servers if this works for you then you could stick with this or do some further digging as to why you are not getting the dns server addresses automatically like you should be.

Setting the DNS entries to Google's makes it work, but attempting to get the DNS Server's automatically leaves me with no ability to resolve domain names. How strange?
Thanks for the workaround, not sure where to start looking to fix it properly.

Hey guys,
I am new to this wifi router thing and got the following questions:
1. To be able to use it, you must have data connection with your provider. Am I right?
2. By any chance, can I use this system by using a sim taken out of a prepaid mobile broadband dongle and inserted into my device (htc touch HD)?
3. Once I get connected can I surf the internet/check emails etc from within the device itself without the need to use a laptop?
Please don't mind these basic stupid questions.
cheers
After searching and trying out several ways to connect my GT to my school's proxy authenticated wifi network I gave up. Then I thought about my ipod touch, registered my wifi mac address with the IT guys and voila it was so easy to configure proxy just my entering user name and password I I can surf.
Now why on earth did android neglect the proxy wifi I have no idea. Furthermore, the adhoc wifi does not also work OTB and will only work if rooted. Why?
I am beginning to regret purchasing android device.....
Hi, what is the specific problem-is it connecting ok to wireless but not authenticating to your web proxy server? apps like asproxy ( http://alsubang.github.com/ASProxy/index.html) should work, but haven't tried it myself....
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I have tried asproxy and it did not work. And yes it connects to the usual hotspots like starbucks. I am also rooted so I am able to connect to adhoc from my nokia phone(joiku hotspot).
I also know some friends who have the 10.1 and the asus transformer and they also cannot connect to the schools proxy. A visit to the IT department confirmed that Android is not supported.
A lot of people in our community are already put off getting an android device because of this.
I recently updated my HD2 to Runnymede Sense 3.5 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275119 ).
Now I can't use the internet anymore, I've a good wifi connection, and I can login into the router. But everything outside the homenetwork is not possible. On other devices I can use the internet perfectly on that wifi-network.
I tried opendns dns setting or surfing to google's ip but that also doesn't work.
MAC filtering? Some roms mess with your MAC address.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk
No, we have no MAC filtering, with the om that i used before this runnymede rom I had no problems.
I tried things like proxy and so on but it keeps not working, except loading the home network sites like the router configuration page....
Is there anyone how's able to help me?
I don't know about your situation, but whenever I get no connectivity I set the dns to google's open dns in Wifi advanced settings AND in build.prop . After that, it works perfectly.
I'll try to edit it in build.prop, lets see if it works....
hi guys,
so i bought my Lg g2 yesterday and i can't connect to my wifi network, the phone says obtaining ip address over and over again. i searched the internet and found that is a very common problem. it has something to do with my router so i installed a firmware update. the router (dlink dwl 700ap) is borrowed from our cable company and is already quite old (the newest firmware dated from 2008). since updating didn't work, tried to change every possile setting in the router menu, also didn't work. (i came across a setting saying dchp disabled(by default), tried changing it to enable but some devivces could not connect anymore). i tried some apps from google play but non of them changed anything. i also tried to use static but i could not acces the web (i think the static setting were coorect since i copied them from my "ipconfig" in windows, wath i found weird is that the ip adress of the router said 195.168.0.50 while the ip on my computer said 85.XXXXXXXX.). so i factory resetted my G2, didn't work.
i can connect with every device to my router (s3, ipod touch, lumia 720, iphone 5s) and i can connect my lg g2 to every other network.
so should i return my lg g2, call my cable network or ?
can anyone help me ?
thanks a lot, i really appreciate it
ps sorry for my bad enlish
Turning on dchp will try to auto assign ips so make sure all devices are set to auto or reserve the ip at the router level if you wish some to be static.
As for static ip settings. Make sure the ip you're trying to get the phone isn't assigned.
Default gateway (from the information you've given) 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

thanks for the quick reply! i used the ip adress of the router (192.168.0.50) and your default gateway and still can't connect the web.
as for dhcp, i really don't understand how dhcp is disable as a default on my router and still every single device can connect and us the internet at the same time

default it should be on. Here in th UK routers ship as such.
Try a different ip. After that it's beyond my knowledge

still not working, thanks for trying. wishing i never bought a lg g2 in the first place
Anyone else got the same problem ?
Can you connect to the hotspot on another phone?
Might be a stupid suggestion but since you asked, the password on your G2 could be wrong for your router :/

Yeo! Hmm I would say it's a problem with the router, esp since you can connect to other WiFi networks from your phone. Have you tried resetting the router itself? Drastic but I can offer no advice from the settings standpoint

yes did a reset, no change. Are you sure it is the router because i never had any problem with it.
I cannot be *sure* of anything but if your phone can connect to other devices perfectly well then the most obvious source of error is the router
You mentioned that toggling dhcp on breaks the connection for other devices - does it fix the connection for your g2?
I took a look at my router settings for static IP address and I have no idea how to set up static addresses haha.. (Not sure how your other devices connect if dhcp is off as I know next to nothing about networking)

i had that problem "obtaining ip address" when i use MAC filter, which allow only registered MAC address connect to the router. i registered my LG g2 MAC address to the router and the problem gone.
hi guys
i found the problem
it happens just when you disable auto update in "settings>general>about phone>update center>software update>check automatically"
