But it sounds so complicated compared to the vibrant. Is there like an auto one click root? Or a really really simple guide with a low chance of bricking.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Its pretty straight forward if you use the guide and follow it. If you are that concerned about the risk you are probably better off with visionary.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I've been looking for a video walk-through from someone using visionary, but no luck.
Depending on how eager you want to root your phone, you can either be patient and wait or actually do some research on the rooting process. The instructions they provide are exactly what you need to do. Probably the reason why others have bricked their phones is because they didn't follow instructions properly.
The success rate is extremely high and the reward of root is well worth. Consider reading the rage method instead of VISIONary. It may appear intimidating, but it works like a charm.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The rage method has a 100% chance of working as long as you don't screw it up. The visionary method has about an 80% chance of working.
You make the choice.

My only question, which has never been reported, if I have Visionary r12 have temp rooted and applied perm root. Yet perm root does not stick, is it a bad idea to use the rage method? Should I re-wipe and start over or just hit it with rage?

Ok Ive been a long time iphone owner since they came out and ive never owned an android product. Im tired of the crappy service I get with att anywhere outside of large cities and the iphone in general so me and my wife are switching over to verizon. We both ordered the droid x two days ago and somehow we are getting them tomarrow despite the aug 4th ship date that they said. The more I review about android OS and the droid x the more I think I will love it compared to the iphone. My question is which meathod of rooting should I take. Ive never rooted before of course so should I use the one click method or the list of instructions method. Im real tech savvy so if the list instructions way to root it is the best im comfortable with that. My next questions is on updates. Do i need to have the phone unrooted everytime that I preform an update or is that unnessisary? Also if I delete or rename some basic bloat ware do I need to make sure it is all back the same before I update? Thanks for any help and I look forward to be on the droid side
Ok i have my phone. Any answers to my post? Is this the wrong site to be asking this?

I rooted mine using better terminal emulator right on my phone. Took all of 15 mins maybe. I've never done the one click thing but have heard great things about it. I guess its really what you're comfortable with. Just make sure you take your time and don't miss any steps!
Good luck & welcome to DROID!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Thanks for your reply. If i root now will it conflict with future updates?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It shouldn't. At least it hasn't yet. Just be careful with what bloat you delete. Make sure you keep anything that is blur related and verizons backup assistant. Its been said you will brick if you delete any of those.

I've rooted several phones and the one click was so easy. Once I extracted the files & installed the drivers it took less than a minute.

If your sending your phone back cause of the hinge then.. WOW.. its a hinge its not like the G1 its supposed to drop loosely when tilted thats what a hinge does when held upside down..
Haha, no morons.. first one had gps and lag issues some how, didn't use temp root as it was pointless, second had dead pixels and now this keeps on shutting off randomly.. so yeah, fourth.. did I even say anything about hinges??? Just asked a simple question, just to keep root and OC, as everything is so buggy to most phones...

I'm not sure about OC, but i do know that you can have stock and root. Just use the guide for temp root to perm root and that should be it. As for OC, you probably still have the option of getting temp root and OC with the temp root o.o if I recall correctly, I flashed my OC, so not much of a help for you there.
If I were you, I would just go with temp root for a week or so though, since you don't seem to be having that much luck with your G2s and after that, go to perm root if you feel that your phone is without problems.

Yes you can. So long as you don't flash any roms. Just root your phone and oc using the gscript method.

I don't know if any one has found this but the incredible has been able to do it by changing the system software without rooting it. My friend did this and he was able to use the tether on/off switch on the settings menu without ever having to pay the extra amount. Does anyone know of a method like this for the EVO? I believe its called dun hack.
Yep just run the mikfroyo Rom and its already built in.

If you would like a good step by step guide go to WWW.androidforums.com and go to the EVO section then look in the 'All about Root' section. There will be a 'Rooting guide for Dummies' at the very top. Follow this guide and they will help u with any problems or concerns

Well seeing how I'm 15 and (and starting football and powerlifting camp today) building my own roms and a tester for TeamRoyal it can't be too hard but really to the OP you can't post multiple times, its a good way to get your question dismissed by the community. To root my MyTouch 4G took me over a week, of reading extensive posts here on XDA. Until i got it with the Link that i Posted on your last Discussion.
So every step, from the beginning, slowly. When you see that something is not going right, stop, and tell us Exactly what is happening
And yes, PERMROOT Wont give you special powers to show offf to your friends. Most likely if you do something wrong, say bye to that phone or have ready 100 $ to pay someone to fix it for you.
I just want root to install custom roms. I had a Samsung vibrant before and it was so easy to root.

You people are funny with the whole root giving power thing, but I swear root gave me +100hp and eng hboot gave +100mp extra. But ya rooting is easy and you don't even need a PC. Story behind it...
I lost my HD2 (Leo1024) as it was my first dev-phone so I heavily modded it and few had personal things I never even released to public so now some prick walking around with it. When this happened dual core based phone the LG-Opt2x and Moto-Atrix (dual core) was still 4months behind and I couldn't wait for it so next best thing I got was MT4G (spec wise DHD-US model), so week before I got MT4G I did total run down from known issues with MT4G to root, ect. So I walk in to the TMoStore and the rep try to "sell" me MT4G so I told the guy save yourself some trouble I already know about the device and so we can skip all this BS and wanted to for it direct.
So I told him to open the box so I can verify it was superior display (by then we already knew about inferior SH model). So he started asking other silly questions how hard it was rooting and back then the meth was lil weird as you needed battery pull. Since I lost my phone they verified my account and gave me a new simcard free and provisioned my line on the spot. So I downloaded all the files needed from my phone for TheUnlockr meth to SDCard and rooted it in front of him using TempROOT (VISIONary+) and PermROOT (root.sh).
So what exactly is the easiest way?

If the root.sh method doesn't work chance are you have a bad eMMC and you will permanently brick your phone
[sent via Cyanogen powered Android]
Had my mytouch 4g for like 3 weeks now, rooted the first day i got it and tired a whole lot of roms soon to find out i had the bad emmc chip AND bad screen fml. So now i don't want risk my phone on getting bricked or anything. I rooted my MT4g using the form "TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off!!!" now i figured out how to unroot by using the form "Automated way to unroot your myTouch 4G (difficulty level 1)" but my question is it safe to use this after flashing "TMOUS MT4G 2.3.4 ROOTED with new radio" I still want to have the new ota update but unrooted with s-on? any suggestions on how? Did you read the thread till it says "Procedure to revert"?
And remember - once you unroot and S-ON back, you can't root again unless you downgrade and wipe everything.
Yea but i also want to have the new update and I'm wondering if there is a way to revert and keep the same update get me? Haha
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Reverting doesn't reflash the ROM, just restores the security flag and removes root.
But there is absolutely no reason to.
The best would be just to run Gfree to restore S-ON, and leave it as is. If the phone is to be bricked - the ROM won't boot anyway, and the bootloader will be S-ON, so there won't be anything suspicious visible on the phone.
Well try this.. but if I do this well I get the manual updates? Or should I just download the offical 2.3.4 pd15img file and put it on the sd card so I can flash on hboot ? I know this loses root (just what I want ) but well it get s-on that why or should I get s-on first like how yoy told me and then do this?? And well this br safe since the radio changed on the rooted version?

I want to do this as well, so when you find out pm me cause no one will help me on my post about this. But anyways, i think you have to be on stock radio in order to flash the gingerbread update pd15img.zip file. I'm not for sure, i think i saw it somewhere on these forums.
There is a good reason nobody posts - because all the info has been posted and you have been pointed to it, and most people don't want to post the same thing 15 times again and again. The rooting thread contains the procedure to unroot. You want to unroot? Follow it.

If you're dumb enough not to know, what kind of damage repeating questions cause to the forum - go educate yourself, or make your brain work and answer one simple question - why didn't you get your answers yet? And I guess you're not only dumb, but also blind, since the link is above your post and there are at least 5 threads in Development forum that talk about unrooting, and most probably 2 or 3 of them are in the first pages of the forum.
One would probably look at my status and think that "thanks" didn't arrive from nowhere, and definitely not from "little talk". I guess this is too much to ask, since it assumes the ability to think.
Your attitude is disgusting.

So because we read and understand how to perform an unroot we have no lives?
Ok first of all I would like to thanks you guys for helping trying to answer my question. Technically I got my answer but it's not the answer I'm looking for... pretty much I would like to change my answer a little bit. By my understanding you can't just flash the new gingerbread update 2.3.4 if your rooted and have s-off (unless it's the rooted/detoxed one which I currently have and also I included THE NEW RADIO) you need to be unrooted with s-off right? So what I'm thinking now is I'm just going to unroot my phone using the automated way (for the gfree root) so now my question is it safe to do this with the rom I have? Because I have read forms that once you update to the new ginger bread you cant downgrade? Or that it's just a little more difficult to do right? ( I don't know if has to do anything with the rooted one I have btw) so if I unroot using that method well it root since I'm technically going to downgrade right? Since the unroot process says I have to flash the PD15IMG.zip which I think it would be an older version. So that being said can I just unroot using that method but insted of using the PD15IMG.zip they give you can I used the new gingerbreed PD15IMG.zip file well that work?!?!?!
