[Q] ROOT Guide - Droid 2 General

i met this guy at downtown LA and i paid him to flash my droid to Metro PCS. when he was done, he mentioned this website to me, and told me i can install apps from this site. i'm a noob to DROID 2 and all it's rooting interface. he said, my droid 2 is already rooted. what are the programs that i need to install apps/games/themes? he removed the eye animation when i turn on my droid, and put his name and phone number instead, i hate it. is there a guide that i can rely on?
some Info
-Phone: Droid 2
-OS: Android 2.2
-i got this app Superuser Permissions, i dont know what its for.
-i'm using a Windows PC
any help would be appreciated.
thank you.

Read read and read some more. It's how I learned everything I know about my D2. You can flash a ROM and most have their own boot animation. Here is a good all-in-one tutorial but I encourage you to browse the website about five times and you should have more than enough knowledge to start hacking your D2 and then some .
Superuser just lets root apps have root permission (called superuser access which is the foundation of Unix based systems and the biggest reason they don't deal with the problems caused by viruses (and of course Microsoft's lack of programming abilities lol).
if you do a market search for root apps and install one superuser will ask you if you want it to have access, but until you have an app that needs root your superuser app won't do anything special.
If you have any questions about stuff on that tutorial just post back here and I can do my best to help you.

Go to my website and get the DOBoot thingy. You can find a bootanimation.zip or use the one that is currently in there (Andy baseball batting an apple) to change your bootscreen.

MOTO CLIQ has been rooted! (confirmed) read more>>

we have now had a few users out there who have rooted their Cliq, and apparently there are a few ways of going about the process. the link below will take you to theDudes post, and im sure you will find other individuals with other methods if you search through the thread.
good luck to all who wish to root, and happy holidays to all!
_________________________________________________________________
As i do not have a moto cliq in my possession i would not be able to tell you if this is true or not. but to any users out there that DO have access to a Cliq, and are willing to test this. (just in case someone out there hadnt seen it)
Motorola CLIQ Rooted for Full Android Access http://bit.ly/4Y9uLs
(dont hate me, i caught this on a livesearch of android, the info was RT'd by
{@TaimurAsad} if you would like to RT it yourself, please do.)
i would like to hear if this works out. seeing as how the last moto cliq forum was closed.
For italian people I've translated the guide ;-)

Its true. I have a Cliq and I rooted it last night. There are two methods to root. One is by Demoshadow and one is by TheDudesAndroid. Both seem to be based on the same idea. They came out about the same time. TheDudesAndroid is actually a little easier to do and the files can be downloaded faster. You posted TheDudes version here. Here is Demoshadows verison just to be fair. Demoshadow's Root
Wonderful news for CLIQ users, I hope milestone will get rooted soon
Yah, its true, and apparently it will work with the Dext as well. Its STILL very raw though. And could possibly brick your phone. May be best to wait a a few days for it to be cleaned up and tested more. Still some risk with it. No flashable update.zip as of yet. Also, they are working on porting Cyanogen's Rom to the cliq and a Nexus One rom. And someone got the NexusOne boot screen running on it.
awesome, so its official. now we just wait for the genius' in the android community to "fancify" it, as they always do. props to all who tried this, and thanks for giving us a 100% positive answer.
does this also mean someone can port motoblur to the g1/mytouch easier?

This root proccess is different from what we are used to. I actualy rooted mine last night. Spent some time following the M3 forum for awhile and it was no easy task. If we were all "genius'" here why weren't we able to do it? I'm not trying to bash but we need to work together on this and not make anyone feel inferior.

The root process is quite different - and I think that there is a lot to learn from the original thread http://modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525915&page=35 starting ~page 35.
The method to flash a custom image was put together by Skrilax_CZ and was the crucial breakthrough for the device. TheDude got 'su' working.

Well, once their is some roms ported/made for the CLIQ ,I think, with the right people, may pass the G1 in terms of roms/hacks.
Got root on my cliq
I followed The Dudes version and had no issues at all getting root. It only took me about 20 mins. I can't wait to see where this goes next. Love the cliq been waiting for root!!
So far everything works for me the same as before no FCs no apps not installing or running.

[Q] New to Droid X - need to root, install a custom ROM, help?

I know I know, there are probably lots of threads on this but I'm having a difficult time finding them.
Basically I just need some guidance in how to go about
1) Rooting the phone
2) installing whatever is needed to flash a ROM
3) how to flash a ROM
Let me know, I have a droid incredible and I'm very familiar with that process- but since the X has a locked bootloader it seems it's different here.
Look for z4root, droidx bootstrap and do lots of reading.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Already did, here's where I'm dumbly stuck.
I download z4root off of here since it was removed from the market. I have the settings enabled where I should be able to install apk's that are not form the market, however when I try to run the download it'll tell me "can not find program to run this file".
Pretty annoying and frustrating, any suggestions?
FYI it is definitely .apk I didn't rename the extension to anything else.
Did you download it directly to your phone? You need to download it to your computer and then move the file to the sdcard. Don't know why but it worked for me. I was having the same problem.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ah ok, yes I did download it to the phone. Weird because my incredible didn't have to do that.
I guess different phones have different ways.
My sister with the droid x is out and about, so I hope to work on it when she gets back and hopefully get a good ROM going on it.

Thanks, finally got it all working (yesterday) but wanted to post to thank you guys for the input and also to say how amazed I am at how much smoother and quicker the phone is without the bloat.
Didn't realize it was tied down so much.
Ah crap.....based on that endorsement I'm DEFINITELY gonna have to root now!

I rooted my sisters Droid X, my dad has the same exact droid X phone unrooted.
Comparing the 2 is completely different in how quick they are.
My dad's phone is a headache of lagginess and disappointment in speed.
Quite the opposite on the rooted phone.
I used the Liberity 1.5 ROM and also downloaded Launcher Pro from the market (just suggestions ) I never liked ADW launcher.

How the root exploit (rageagainstthecage.bin) works

I was curious about how the root exploit that unlocks our phones for all this great dev stuff works. Found this explanation, and it was quite good. For those with sufficient unix/linux knowlege, this will be totally understandable, so I'd recommend following the link, and reading the in-depth explanation, complete with C code. For those with less background in this stuff, it's still worth a read, but you'll have to work harder to understand exactly what's going on.
Post any questions in this thread, and I'll be happy to answer them!
This is a good explanation, I read something similar when rage was released, may hve even been this. But I'm pretty versed with linux and am overly versed in C...to the point where I have nightmares....

Hi and sorry for the bump guys,
Does anybody know how to do the rageagainstthecage root with an LG Optimus One P503? I have tried everything - Simple Root, SuperOneClick, VISIONary, z4root, nothing is working! I really need this root because my phone did not come with Android market and I want to install it through ADB, and I think that requires a root correct? Even if I can't root my phone, is there any way to install an apk to my phone's internal storage and not my SD card?
Thanks for reading this!
By rooting lol
I know for the opimus s you have to force a flash of an older software for z4 to root.

no you dont need to root to install thru adb. just open up command/terminal,
adb install /blah/blah/phoneapphere.apk
alternatively you can put it on your sd card and use a file manager to locate the apk and install it on the phone.. for a nice easy root, use gingerbreak its the latest un patched exploit.. theres an apk version on xda it will root your phone no issues

Yes but thats why hes asking if it can be used for the other phone. Specs wise, both phones are almost the same internally.

specs don't really dictate which exploit will work on a device though.
If the bootloader is locked on the HTC, there's going to be a different workaround to root it.
just sayin'

A Newbie needs Help?

Hi Guys, ive had my A500 for a couple of weeks now and i love it -------- im a Tablet/Computer DUMMY, can you PLEASE tell me what is "ROOTING" ?
I ask as ive read a lot about it on here and wonder if i should do it.
I will give you a different view then some I would imagine. My answer is do not bother with "Rooting".
In short, it gives you access to the files you would not normally see or need on a normal usage basis.
I would suggest you continue to use the A500 as is with out rooting it until you either find the device simply does not function as you want, or you continue to read the threads and decide you wish to try it out.
Having said that and is found in another thread simply rooting is not dangerous. But, I would say if you are new to computers/tablets that little value would be added to your experience so simply enjoy your A500.
Thankyou for your reply
install a file manger from market
install the apk from the list in this link
if you are on 3.1 install version 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138228
once you downloade the file click and install the apk from you file manager
install acer recover installer from market
open the app and click install recovery rom 1.3 thor something
reboot to recovery and install what ever rom you like
Rooting grants you access to system files you would not normally have access to.
If you don't know what it is, or don't know what the risks are, I wouldn't recommend doing it ... But I can't stop you from rooting
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e
rooting
This gives you access to operation system files. Rooting your device is a must to get access to advance setting and change the way your tablet functions. First some reasons to not root
1.you avoid your warranty
2.you make your system easily available for mistakes to cause it to no longer being usable.
reasons average users root
1.can install advance control apps
2.can do complete backups thou not really need if you are not root access
3.hacks like the Netflix fix.adding ad-hoc support for tethering to phone
DO NOT ROOT UNTIL YOU DONT HAVE TO ASK THERR SIMPLE QUESTIONS
With that said all the answers are here in this forum.thanks to all the wonderful developers and advanced users.
Good luck. Empower yourself for a better android experience.

Thanks Guys and Gals----------think i wont bother at the moment,i will just spend more time learning about my Tablet!

For me, the root brought netflix, not sure if there is a way to get it yet without root. Yep, use my tab with netflix while i run my 5 miles in the gym (ok i walk most of the way, enough to see an entire movie, or email or whatnot. Worth the price of the tab right there.

Not the only thing that a root can do
Sent from my magical HTC Wildfire S.
While I am not a dev, I have spent a great many years around *nix systems. Rooting, in itself, is not difficult nor dangerous. The danger is in the new abilities to modify system parameters which should be left alone by those without sufficient knowledge. Acer has provided a utility to allow for system restore and some backup abilities which should be sufficient for most new users. With android, as with any OS, knowledge is power. I usually suggest new users gain knowledge about the system before tampering with root.
I am new to the acer community but some of you may have seen me on the nook color or huawei s7 forums and I am starting development work on the webos forums. As I said before, I am not a dev (yet) but I believe everyone should understand a concept before blindly rushing into the fray.
I will get off my soapbox now and go play. Enjoy your new acer...

[Q] Total Noob Question about the Droid Razr M and Rooting

Ok y'all I'm just going to come out and preface this by saying that I'm a noob when it comes to rooting phones and don't quite understand it. What is rooting exactly? What are the benefits to rooting? Does it void the phone's warranty? And what is the best method for rooting the Droid RAZR M running 4.1.1 Jelly Bean? Is there any way to "un-root" a phone once it's rooted?
Gunner out!
There was is an old website. Ummmm what's it called ummm how you say ummmmmm ..... oh yeah Google.
Rooting makes the phone more fun to play with. Yes it voids the warranty. Yes you can unroot.
Hit up Google. They supposed to be some sort of informational website or something.
And don't take my sarcasm wrong dude. Im just messing with ya. If you decide to root this thing and you need help ima hook you up. I knew squat about android when I found this place and I was led by the hand for a bit. I don't mind giving back!

I'm all ears
I have always used root, as a preface to installing custom recovery and a custom rom. I don't know how new you are so please don't be offended when I say custom recovery and roms give you more options and more freedom to make your phone yours. I also root to remove system apps that aren't used commonly called bloatware that come preinstalled on your device and without root you can not uninstall these. There are apps on the market that require root to gain use or full use like setCPU, root explorer and titanium backup there are others as well. I hope this little bit of information helps you make your decision!
Here's a link to the guide on how to root your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940630
Its really easy. Just download the moto droid razr drivers and install them on your PC. Follow the directions on the screen. Just a couple button presses and presto. The program will let you know that it has successfully gained root. Use root checker from Google play to verify proper root. Should you run into root access issues. Here is a zip that will fix that.
Delete the original su file and superuser apk from the motofail2go folder and replace them with the files located in the root zip and paste them in the motofail2go folder. Rerun the program and it should work then. Good luck.
