Thinking of getting the 3g slide...but coming from the nexus one.., will i be happy?

since the nexus one is a faster device. will i be happpy with the my touch 3g slide? i went to att and got the new iphone4, i am not too impressed and att service sucks where i live, i have 30 days to cancel, i have the hd2 but i am selling it, i cant take winmo any longer,
what do you all think as far as speed, and screen...will i be happy switching? or will i notice a big speed diffrence?

I think the slide is fast as hell. Its feels like a snapdragon processer plus once you root and put froyo on it its crfazy fast. And the keyboard is one of the best ever! And the screen isn't as high res but still looks good and it doesn't eat as much battery.

Ditto. U shouldn't notice the speed difference. I love my slide but if ur coming from the nexus u might want to check into the vibrant too. Basically mirror of the specs. Just keep ur options open. Good Luck.

In one word.... NO. The Slide IMO is a entry level Android 2.1 (sometime to be 2.2) device.
The Nexus One has everything the slide does (except swype which can be DLed and a physical keybored that you will never use)
The Nexus one already has 2.2 (supported)
And the iPhone 4 is 100x better then both phones. The screen on the iPhone 4 is EXTREAMLY good. The app store for iPhone is twice as big. And the things the iPhone can do is still much higher then the Android platform.

I think you're on crack. The physical keyboard is so much nicer than a on screen keyboard. Even with swype, the OSK sucks compared to a physical keyboard.

I really don't think the slide is entry level at either its at least as fast if not faster than the iphone.and yes I've used them both.

Lol! You guys crack me up! The nerve of that guy! Why is he even here?! Does he have an HTC and has buyers remorse. Personally, I thought the first iPhone was great. It lead the way for many advancements from HTC, WM, and Android. So even though I hate Apple, I have to admit that but... the iphone4 is crap. Adding a front facing camera, is an old idea and has been used outside the US for many years. Most US carriers haven't been able to provide a network that handles the data capabilities that are needed to run video calling until the past couple years. I blame the US carriers for that blunder. But leave it up to Apple and at&t to steal old ideas... plus, wow a higher res screen that the human eye can't even differentiate that many pixels. Screw that... and a antenna that forces users to hold their phone a certain way to get proper reception so they don't drop a call that at&t is notorious of doing because of their crappy glued together 2G and 3G that are on 4 different frequencies. Lol! What a joke! The iPhone is garbage. The nexus is a fine, quality phone but the lack of a QWERTY keyboard is a real turn off. The MTS is just as good without the battery drain and just as fast because of the high RAM amount and superior GPU. Plus the vibrant is nice and has a large internal memory space for ROM and apps, but I have had bad experiences with Samsung in the past. But who knows... may be you'll have a good one but the point is ... the MTS is a better replacement for the nexus and vibrant is a good option too. Good luck!

There aren't very fine details out yet, such as what type of screen it is, how large the battery is, what type of processor (it is 1 ghz, though) etc. but it seems to be, more or less, a Vibrant with a front-facing camera and HSPA+.
The kicker, though, is this is (probably) going to be an HTC device, which runs circle around Samsung when it comes to high-end Android phones.

How is it like a Vibrant with a FFC? It looks nothing like the Vibrant, It has buttons (Not fully touch) & It's ugly

Isnt the screen smaller than a Vibrant?

Looks decent enough and has the one thing I wish Vibrant did... hard buttons. That's the only thing I wish the vibrant had.

Well...i am getting front facing camera on my vibrant soon. Don't care about HSPA+. Who is gonna download torrents on mobile phones!?

HSPA+'s attraction is more less latency than higher speeds. Because, frankly speaking, once you pass the 5 Mbps mark, most website you visit won't load fast enough for you to even notice. The only exception is streaming videos in which case you are more likely to be capped by the server than your connection anyway.

What does less latency mean for end user? Real question, no pun.

Not as sexy as the Vibrant.
The single detail that makes it better than the Vibrant? It's an HTC.

The MyTouchHD is an awesome phone. The screen isn't as big as the Vibrant but the build quality is a lot better. I've had the pleasure of using it and if any phone would make me switch its that one. Just wish it didn't come with Sense.

i'd get the G2 over the mytouch HD.

not quite as 'vibrant' as the vibrant, bet it also doesnt vibrate as the vibrant

I believe the screen size is 3.8 in. Same width as the Vibrant, a couple of mm shorter. That's hardly anything to whine about. Ffc without having to completely hack my phone plus software support for video chat over 3G is definitely a plus. Native HSPA+ support. Shipped with froyo. My guess is that it will probably have a working GPS and compass. Swype preinstalled and Wifi calling too. This phone, although not as sexy looking as the Vibrant, looks very promising.

Hspa+ is real cool in its stats. But until it is widely available it's nearly worthless for most people. I figure by the time it's something that would actually affect me day to day itll be good timing to upgrade from my vibrant. My touch looks cool, ffc is a nice touch but it's also something I know I would rarely use.

Im contemplating selling my Vibrant. Even though this new MyTouch may lack some of the sexiness of the Samsung, HTC's customer service seems more on point. I rather my money go there. Wifi calling, Froyo, FFC, GPS that works (assuming) is more reason to drop the Samsung Vibrant.

Voip is much better when your latency is 60-80ms instead of 160-200ms.
Web pages begin loading much quicker (large pages still take a while to render, but small pages seem to come up instantly).
Google Maps tiles load quicker.
Little things that make the web feel faster are mostly latency-dependent. And typically, HSPA+ has lower latency than WiMax

Frustrated and fed up with Samsung's lack of support for the Vibrant, I contemplated switching to the G2, but wasn't impressed when I checked it out at a T-Mobile store over the weekend. Now that the MyTouch HD has been announced, my Vibrant will be going up for sale.

So wait, do you guys mean that the Vibrant can't benefit from Hspa+? You actually need a specific phone?

So after owning the G2 for a few weeks...

I'm happy to say that I'm back on my Samsung Vibrant! The G2 is a great looking phone, and fast at that too. Issues that made me walk away from it....
Hinge was fine when I first got it, but after a few weeks it got really loose.
Force closed on my Apps so many times, it made me wanna toss it out the window a few times.
Rebooted itself at least once a day. This morning it did it 3 times back-to-back. Really?!?!
Can't get a perm root, and it looks like a few are starting to give up on it. I'm sure it'll be rooted, but not any time soon.
I really missed the Vibrant crew. You guys are a bunch of cool Mother F__kers!

Oh, and I know this is minor, but I couldn't do this <3 because the G2 is missing this key "<"

I didn't do anything to it at all. I didn't even try to install temp root either. I didn't want to mess with the phone till their was a perm root.
If you go to the G2 forum section, you'll see that a few people had a issues with the phone rebooting on its own. Even when I called T-Mobile about the issue, I was told that they've been getting calls about the issue.

There has definitely been people having issues with the phone rebooting by itself. Sometimes even 3 times in a day like he mentioned. Seen plenty of people on my Twitter timeline complain about it. There seem to be a lot of issues with the phone.

I am on my third G2 with the fourth replacement on the way and so far all have had very similar issues.1.Very very poor to no reception. 2. random rebooting, 3. Black screen freezes. 4. Dropped calls. 5. Loose hinges that keep getting looser. 6. When deploying keyboard apps start randomly. 7. Very difficult to connect to market. 8. Powers itself off on a random basis. I am so Grateful that I still have my Vibrant. So far I would rank it way above the G2. If my fourth one has the same issues and there is no OTA update to fix some of them I will send it back. IMO I believe the Vibrant is the best phone available at this time.

Actually I'm not giving my Vibrant up just yet. Once my G2 gets here I'll have both. I was able to get the G2 new for $200 flat-out (no contract) So I'm gonna keep them both for a while and see what happens. Then maybe I'll sell one

2 blackberrys, 3 Iphones, 1 nokia, 2 Winmo Phones, the G1 and the Hd 2
Of all those phones only the HD2 came close in overall performance to the Vibrant...... but not android and what a battery hog- did like the htc sense
What I like about the Vibrant (besides almost everything) it is very forgiving when you brick, I have been able to restore from all screwups I have created within 1 hr.
Within the first 20 min of trying a G2 I knew it was going to be buggy that is why I stayed with this phone

Anyone try the EVO 4G? I wouldn't switch, I was just wondering. I love my vibrant, but my friend is switching because of the hype of 4G and the large screen. I've never tried seen an EVO up close so I'm not sure how good it really is.

Yeah I had the Evo before I got my Vibrant. It's a good phone, but Sprint sucks and the hype of the 4G is complete bull. I got about 4mbps tops on 4G and my Vibrant gets 6.

This thread help me decide somethings. I am kicking Verizon to the curb because of billing issues. I am really looking at T-Mobile. Not sure if I want the Vibrant or HD2. I have a Droid X and now hooked on the 4.3".
Had thought about Evo but know the battery is horrible. I thought of the G2 because of HSPA+ but looks like I need to do the Vibrant or HD2.

Personally I'd rather they get rid of RFS before I worry about Froyo. Faster JIT sounds nice but when your largest bottleneck is the FS, it doesn't matter. It's like driving a Ferrari in a school zone.
I love everything about the phone except the RFS. RFS is an example of companies drinking their kool-aid and wearing their sneakers, with the same result when it comes to plastic bags and breathing.

If you flash Bionix, Master ROM, AOSPish, or Eugene's R4, your phone will run like butter. Like. It's ridiculous how fast this thing is. I can't even stand to use the Nexus One it feels so laggy after witnessing such smoothness on the vibrant.
Other than that. My G2 also went back. It's not worth the hype nor the money. They could have made it AWESOME but no, they made it suck. The Vibrant is THE best phone. It out-performs EVERY phone in both power and slickness. The screen is the best. Once we get Froyo rolling we will be king. Forever. The only comparable/better phone to the Vibrant in smoothness (on menus/swyping screens) is the iPhone 4. But that's Crapple.
As far as the Evo 4g goes, it's ugly, and 4g aka Wimax is ***** **** that can't even touch T-Mobile's 3g itself, let alone HSPA+. My vibrant pulls 6.3mb/s. Sprint's 4g can't do that. Sprint is a joke and should be sued for false advertising
As far as the Droid X goes, it's huge and bulky. I just got one for testing on WQVGA854 screens for my apps. It's a decent device but it is more sluggish than anticipated even on Froyo. My vibrant on 2.1 runs Way smoother than my Nexus, G2, and DroidX combined, and they're all froyo.
The Vibrant is also a lot more slick than the Droid X. The Droid X is huge.
Also, depending on your location of course, T-Mobile is the best and 2nd cheapest (cricket), and most honest *cough*at&t*cough* provider. They have the nicest reps and the fastest 3g.
Vibrant -> ALL.
Vibrant 2.2 ---------------------------> all
Not to mention the Vibrant can get the FFC now as well. HSPA+ is only 8-10MB/s here in Pittsburgh as compared to 6.3MB/s, so it's not THAT big of a difference.
I will be keeping my Vibrant and loving it until Samsung drops the HSPA+ Dual Core Vibrant 2, on Gingerbread of course . And an unlimited-point touch screen with a QuadrupleSuperAMOLED HD lmao and 1920/1080 resolution... ROFL. Along with T-Mo's 42mb/s HSPA+ when that rolls. Not to mention a Camera button on the same side as the volume rocker and a mini HDMI out on the other side and... blah. Yes I dream.. 10 megapixel camera... records 1080p... a WiFi module with the power of a laptop's... and some real bluetooth compatibility... and a flash on the back camera... Make it Quad Core processor at 3.0GHz too LOL. I've gone too far.
OH and can't forget the quad-speaker setup that it should also have. Two speakers on the back and two speakers on the front. (top/bottom) and a 6800 mAh battery... that lasts like. 2 weeks. And make the touch screen feel like you could almost be touching water. But not wet.
Hahahaha. And. Uh. 1TB mini-SSD internal drive With 8GB/s transfer rate. Boots up in 5 seconds. Would be instant but needs a splash screen

Yeah You are dreaming...and misrepresenting the truth. By the time you get Froyo it will be time to get a new phone. I had the Vibrant for almost 30 days (Cali) sent it back before the remorse period. I rooted it on the first day, the screen is over saturated for my taste (hurts the eyes) and the quality of the phone is plastic and flimsy. The Samsung Epic is a better choice. As for Sprint, I have hit 10+ downloads speeds in the valley and overall they have more coverage (3G) then T-Mobile. The Roms for the Vibrant were sorely insufficient for my taste as well, plus touchwiz is just ugly. Try taking a picture without any light, no video calls, no front camera, no dual led flash= less than Evo or Epic. However, it is slightly behind Nexus and Incredible as far as what it can do. The processor is geared toward gaming, but in other areas it will fall short. Run a linpack on that thing if and when you get Froyo and tell me what you get. You will never get above 20 mflops. So, in that area all the other phones I mentioned are killing the Vibrant.

I returned 2 g2's because of random reboots, so yes that is an issue

Well I've been showing my phone off tio my friends and most of them say they think the new mytouch is better than the vibrant and some guy thinks his ipod touch 2g is better because his pocket pond app has better graphics

its all about personal preference.
vibrant has best gpu,samoled screen.
mt4g has flash, hspa+, and a ffc.
id personally stick with my vibrant. once its lag fixed and oc'd its a beast.
and that ipod 2g is not better than the vibrant lol that guy who said that has to be a noob, the reason pocket ponds looks so good on it,because its optimized for the hardware.

vibrant has best gpu,samoled screen.
mt4g has flash, hspa+, and a ffc.
id personally stick with my vibrant. once its lag fixed and oc'd its a beast.
and that ipod 2g is not better than the vibrant lol that guy who said that has to be a noob, the reason pocket ponds looks so good on it,because its optimized for the hardware.

1. Vibrant will have full flash once 2.2 hits.
2. Hspa+ is a backwards compatible service, so the vibrant will still benefit from it (up to the hardware limit which is like 7 mbps)
3. You can mod a ffc onto the vibrant if you really want it...but there really aren't too many practical uses for it right now anyway.
The vibrant is by far still a better device imo.

I do think Vibrant is a better choice, even though the Snapdragon 2nd Gen processor in HTC phones (G2 and MyTouch 4G) is a beast on its own, but if it weren't for somewhat childish looks of MTG4 and the fact that you cannot mod the damn thing (only temp root, and no RW access to NAND) makes it a bit of a downer.

Will you have to get the official update to get flash? I'm running Eugene's froyo and my phone won't receive any updates at all for other reasons so if i can't get flash that would suck.

From a majority consumer point of view, the MyTough3g is better.
FFC isn't a niche device, it's pretty mainstream considering you can now chat with people who use Yahoo Messenger from your Android phone if it has a FFC. Don't really care about Qik, but Yahoo is very much in use in the world. I suspect Windows Live Messenger will debut this feature quite soon with some Windows Phones coming out with FFCs.
The phone is snappier. Doesn't have the crappy RFS file system. The GUI looks good, and the Speech recognition works great. Doesn't feel like a paper plate in you hands, either (though I've added a cover to my vibrant to put some weight on it).
The Vibrant is a good device but the software (and I've heard FroYo doesn't really change much, outside of the fact that it's FroYo and yes I do need some of the features in FroYo so I welcome it) is terrible and some of the ommisions are just mind-boggling. No LED on front for notifications, for example. No Flash. GPS that still doesn't work correctly for half the people who have it. Slow as hell file system that makes the phone unusable from time to time. Less Application RAM than an HTC Aria. The GPU really doesn't matter because Android 2.1/2.2 still doesn't have a gfx accellerated GUI and Windows Mobile 6.5 has more games than Android (more games that you're bother installing, that is).
HTC also typically has an HTC Sync application for their phones, which makes managing them much easier than Galaxy S in the US (no Kies for us).
TBQH, I'm tired defending this phone. I wonder when others will get tired of it (prolly never on this forum, people still call the HD2 the greatest phone on earth here). This device is being completely overshadowered by other offerings and the only reason why it sold so well on AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint is because:
1. T-Mobile didn't have anything else worth buying in the range of high end smartphones (HD2 not an option for most people with it's OS and problematic reputation)
2. AT&T Doesn't have much other high end smartphonts other than Palm Pres and the Torch that just came out with the Captivate (the Pre and Torch feel more mid-range compared to iOS/Android devices, and there was the Aria as well in that space).
3. Sprint had so many issues with Evo backorders/issues that customers had no issue but to get something else. They have no other good phones. Their Pres are 1st gen and no one wants a Touch Pro 2 or Hero, Lol...
How that there are other good phones coming out... I wouldn't expect much.
Not everyone is a power user. My mom doesn't cry about not being able to jailbreak her Blackberry and when she had a WinMo phone she didn't even install an app on it. She just used it as a phone/txt device (basically as a feature phone). The temp-root issue is only an issue for a very small minority of users - so it isn't even an issue at all in the grand scheme of things.

And I'm at a loss as to the above posters issues. This is my third android phone, and it us by far the fastest happiest android device I've used. My last phone, the Nexus one, although sexy, would need a reboot at least once a day to keep it snappy.
And I live the size if included internal memory is the Vibrant. No need for special hacks to get files on SD.
The Vibrant, for me, is a fantastic phone.
And yes, can't wait for the banding issue to be resolved for the FFC.
Oh, and it doesn't need a flash. It takes better pictures in low light conditions without one, than other phones that have a flash

Well, the one thing that is unmatched on the Galaxy S line is the amazing screen. Sorry, but I can't go back to LCD or plain AMOLED after this. After all, you use the screen more than any other feature on a smartphone.
As for the other things, it all depends on what's important to you. GPS works great for me now. FFC would be nice, but not necessary for me. As for flash? Meh, LED flash is barely adequate as a solution.
Personally, I picked the Vibrant because aside from the core smartphone functions, I wanted a phone that could also replace my old iPod. So for me, having 16gb of built-in memory was more important than even having a camera, much less a flash.

My First Impression Of The MyTouch 4G:
The screen on the MyTouch 4G is much higher in resolution. You can barely see pixels. The MyTouch 4G produces real whites, the SuperAmoled produces green/blue whites. However the SAMOLED has a much better contrast ratio, meaning colors pop since blacks are much darker.
The 3.8 inch screen is too small for me
The Build Quality of the 4G seems to be good.
The GPU seemed slower than the Vibrants PowerVR.
The CPU is faster on the 4G.
Now here is the odd part. I must admit I've noticed the same thing with the G2.
Both the G2 and the Mytouch 4G are HSPA+, while the Vibrant is not. However, side by side, running speedtest app. The vibrant EVERY SINGLE TIME had both higher download and upload speeds. It just doesn't make sense. Side by side, the Vibrant got almost 6mbps download. MyTouch 4G best it could do was 3mbps. Same with the G2, I don't get it.

Every phone has its fanbois. I just left T-Mo and played with an HD7.
Vinrant fells like an 8088 PC-XT compared to that. Only way to think this phone is snappy is to have only used worse phones.

Me and my roomate both had our Vibrants in the store. We were astonished by the difference, just in scrolling form home screen to home screen. The Vibrants were obviously laggy doing something trivial. The Windows phone just blew through everything. The UI is beyond polished. The minimalist look definitely works well.
Microsoft definitely took the best route short of developing their own phones: Lock down the hardware and focus on doing what you do best - software ~ namely the OS and all the device drivers. Google should take note, or Android will suffer (although I'm sure it will be prevalent in the low-mid range device market, since Nokia isn't that big a player - at least in the US).
We played with the MyTouch 4G. The phone itself is ugly and I'm not a fan of screens < 4". It has some Sense elements in it which = update churn like 90% of other Android phones. The G2 performed decently but it has a whole host of problems. If you haven't experienced that ****ty hinge I implore you to go to a T-Mobile store and play with it. The minute the phone is perpendicular to the floor the phone starts closing (more like slamming) on you. That makes the phone unusable for me if I'm lying in bed and using it (as I often do before I go to bed). I guess something like an Epic 4G or Droid 2 wouldn't have that issue, though. That hinge was a terrible idea, Lol.
Oh, and did I mention the touchscreen keyboard on WP7 is /drools/ worthy.
I can't see myself getting any other Android Phone again.
If you get a phone with a UI on it that looks decent it is bound to come with hoards of issues and update churn. If you get a stock phone the built quality is pure crap and/or half the space is taken up to lock the phone down instead.
In any case, I heard FroYo for Galaxy S in the U.S. is supposed to be coming Nov. 11 on Facebook from "Samsung Galaxy S."
I heard Galaxy S performance is still below acceptable with FroYo, though... Some people are reporting regressions.

i just picked up the new mt4g. i have two phone lines (one for my work) and will probably keep both phones. i will need to use the mt4g for a couple of weeks go form a complete review/opinion on the phone v. the vibrant.
the mt4g is very solid and very snappy considering all the bloatware. with its HTC Espresso UI, the interface isn't for every body. Just like HTC sense it does a huge amount of social integration, moreso than the vibrant. And just like HTC sense you have pre-set "themes" you can load in terms of personal and business preferences.
it's screen is super crisp but no where near as "vibrant" as our vibrant phones. in terms of gaming, i haven't compared the two yet as i'm sure the mt4g can handle them well to a certain extent vs. the vibrant being that it's a second gen snapdragon. but i'm sure in terms of rendering and graphic display, it won't match the vibrant. i'll probably compare the gaming and video playback between the two later this week.

There's been no announcement or even real rumor of the sort, unfortunately.
The only thing that's confirmed is "by the end of the year".

If the mytouch had at least a 4" screen I would get it. That being said, I'm looking forward to the android version of the Dell Venue Pro

Should I return and get a G2?

So I got the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on friday and idk what it is but im iffy on it. I like everything about it no complaints but the G2 has been on my eye since it came out. So im asking you all with your own experience with the G2 if i should go return and get one.

Haven't personally used the galaxy S 4g. Is it the same as the previous one, but with a new radio in it basically? Seems to be the case.
The G2 is a great phone and I'm sure you'll obviously get mostly positive reviews in the G2 section, but its up to you really. At this point in time, unfortunately, the G2 is starting to get a bit dated (sad considering it just came out in September), but then again the GS 4G is gonna be shadowed by the newer Galaxy S II devices coming out soon as well all the same. I would put them in the same group really.
The phones are quite different, considering that the G2 is stock android and a keyboard slider, whereas the Galaxy S 4G has a customized TouchWiz UI and no keyboard. Performance is about the same I'm sure, but its really up to your preferences at that point. The GS 4G has a front facing camera, and a slightly faster processor (out of the box that is, you can overclock the G2 just as much), and other than that, not much. The biggest deal is which form factor you like more.
If you plan on rooting your phone and going that route, and that is something that is important to you, maybe you should look and see how the dev communities of each phone suit you. This also means that the stock software differences between the 2 wont really matter because you'll be putting custom ROMs on it anyways then.

If the Vibrant 4g is the same thing as the Vibrant except for the 4g chip, go for the g2. I came from a Vibrant to a g2, and I wish I had done it earlier. The g2 is faster straight out of the box, no stupid lagfixes needed. I was at first concerned about going from a 1ghz chip to an 800, but the g2 blows the Vibrant away, even without overclocking.

Yea lol so true but I wouldn't mind having a phone with a bigger screen since I peronally like big screens but that's me. As for the G2 its a fast phone, never shows lag even if you have filled the screen with wigets

To me the vibrant was light and simple. Great for calls and watching movies and listening to music. I do a lot more on my G2. Emails, more texting... I just feel more productive with a keyboard.

Word... To be honest, you really don't notice much of a difference between the 2 screen sizes. Watching Inception on 4 inches vs 3.7 is not going to show you what you were missing out on. It's still a tiny screen for movies. The difference with the screen will be the LCD vs SAMOLED. Its nice, but not worth everything else the G2 has, from amazing hardware, software and dev support to the camera flash and slide out keyboard.
Unless you do some serious video chatting, I'd get a G2 and wait to majorly upgrade in 6 months or so when we have a bunch of dual cores on the market.

Trust me, go with the galaxy s, once you root it you will love it. It has a faster processor than the g2, a bigger screen, a super amoled display, and is thinner and more durable. I felt the same way you feel at first about my galaxy s, but now this is the only phone I want. Its AMAZING.

Let me preface this by saying to each his own. I would never discourage someone from trying any other Android phone. That being said.... I have never used a Fascinate but had a Vibrant and LOVED it until I realized how awesome the G2 is. The problem is, the ONLY way to love that phone, is to root it. And even then, a lagfix must be implemented for decent performance. I remember when I shat my pants because the Vibrant could be OC'd to 1.4gzh and show me a Quad of 2300. My G2 can do that if I submerge it in the toilet and run Rhapsody while I OC and run the benchmark (hyperbole alert).
Maybe the GPS is fixed on the SGS4G, but it was awful on the Vibrant for so many people. It's durability is easily questionable, as it feels like it is made of dollar store parts. It only has a faster processor out of the box. The G2 is capable of much, MUCH more.
Bottom line, IMO, if one is better than the other, the differences come down to user preference and not general real world experience. Team Whiskey makes some AMAZING ROMs for the Vibrant, but CM is barely limping along with bug after bug. And I don't even know for sure that Vibrant ROMs can be run on the SGS4G, or how complicated that particular Port is.

i have used a few phones beforee settling on my g2. one of htem was the samsung captivate which is basically the galaxy s 4g in a different body and without the 4g. i can tell you that the g2 is way better. samsung makes th galaxy s phones really crappy(all plastic) and probably wont ever give the new galaxy s an update that all of the other galaxy s users are still waiting for(2.2!).

I have had stock Quad scored range from 1500 - 2000, rooted and OC'd I can get in the 3000's

if i were you then i would exchange them, but i cant work without a physical keyboard

I have a regular Vibrant and a G2 (one is a work phone). Both rooted on custom ROMs. G2 is on CM7 while Vibrant is still on Froyo.
If they could have put the Vibrant screen on the G2, it would be the best phone on the market. I'm not saying just because of the keyboard, but the G2 is a more solid phone over all. It's faster (albeit, overclocked) over all.
To each his own though. Having CM7 is worth it for me.

IMO G2/Desire Z is one of the best phones out there and is worth the money. I have been using it since december, been back and forth between nexus one, desire, desire z and i am finally picking up my dz back. not letting it go this time... love this phone... it really rocks...

I'm currently a captivate user on att contract, and I am thinking about jumping over to a DZ... but I am having trouble justifying paying 500$-ish for a new unlocked phone that people are starting to call "dated."
However, I made it a point to myself that I will NEVER buy a smartphone without a physical qwerty ever again. Swype was cool for a few months, but it's impossible to be productive with an entirely touch screen phone... and to me that's just a contradiction to the "smart" in smartphone itself

Could always wait alittle longer for the "next-gen" dual core phones set to be released later this year

no i dont recommend this phone..if u rly rly need a keyboard phone then u can get it otherwise i recommend nexus S
