Hi, currently i in Asia region, the asian firmware (p1000DXjj1) look like a bit crap.I know euro firmware XWjj4 is full flash,i got one question here .If i directly from DXJJ1 to XWjj4 will any problem.Andthe GPS search will be slow if flash to euro firmware? Thanks.
Mine came with DXJJ1 and updated to DXJJ2 then to XXJK5 without any issues. As for the GPS, didn't really notice any difference.
oh,is that direct from DXJJ2 to XXJK5?No need flash to XWJJ4 first?
Yes, just make sure you don't select partition in ODIN, then you're good.
EDIT: Some of my friends, from stock DXJJ1 straight to XXJK5.
Thanks,i have the issue is the TAB always rebooting.is DXJJ1 and i go to SAmSUNG service center, customer service told me that this device is new, still no have software or firmware thing.need wait for their specialist downloading.so i plan flash myself. Is that risky? Thanks.
why XXJK5? its eur firmware right?
any differences at all?
my DXJJ1 is kinda laggy though, with stock UI, thats why i'm planning to flash it
i would prefer to stay on Asia Firmware though
but seeing almost all people here in europe saying its buttery / silky smooth, maybe eur firmware is smoother than asia's firmware?
im planning to upgrade to DXJK2 though, any advice?
its only PDA flash right? no repartition whatsoever?
Apart from not selecting Partition, how about the auto reboot and F reset time options?
Do we tick or untick?
Anyone has a JJ1 tar Pda?

Hi,i just success flah to DXJJ2 .It quite fast.I also looking for the DXJJ1 asia firmware.this is base firmware.now my phone is PDA1000DXJJ2,PHONE1000DXJJ1,CSC1000OLBJJ2.dunno select repartition.u only can select re partion when usong euro firmware XWJJ4.coz is a full flash..
hmm, when you flash your firmware, stuff like readers hub, is it gone?

check if u have multiple wifi profiles. With some profiles (more than 1) together, whenever u switch on the wifi, t willreboot. This is hapeening to me and so far only me and a German user is having this issue. It would be a great help if you can confirm if u have multiple wifi profiles. Remove all but the only profile to connect to the existing wifi and see if the TAB still reboots

Does your TAB keeps rebooting with JJ2 now? Anything missing from JJ1 to JJ2?
nothing missing...cause i just brought 2 days after i use OCLF it happen rebooting.....but i think maybe this rebooting stuff is ASIA Firmware problem.I go to samsung center but look like is this stuff is new for them. They also dun no what to do.The funniest thing is they not yet download the FIRMWARE.I can't wait and try flash myself. Now phone is PDA1000DXJJ2,PHONE1000DXJJ1,CSC1000OLBJJ2.PLEASE do not select repartition.
@teh_cg
well, when you say JJ! is crap, what do you mean by that? did u got UI lag?
mine is kinda laggy >.<
especially the touchwiz
i do use lots of widget though
at least 1/2 every page, maybe more
after u flash it to jj2, did the "thing" used to be crap was better, or is it the same?
hi,justin i just noticed that after i flash to jj2 my press reader only allow me download 2 newspaper after that need to buy.i still remember jj1 time i can download free........or maybe is the sever change...how about yours??????
hm, so far i only download 3 newspaper, 2 of the same kind, 1 different, all of them in indonesia
will let you know if i can get more on the same newspaper later
AFAIK PressReader only offers 7 free downloads on initial activation. After which, you have to buy. Also i dont think they allow to redownload.
So maybe, you've already downloaded the maximum free newspapers.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
ok thanks antz88C...i also remember that i already download 7 newspaper...i thought it will be free for life..........hahaha....
i see, ouch for that
btw is it normal to have lag on galaxy tab?
i did say i put a lot of widget though
anybody put a lot of widget in their tab and still no lag at all? or is it just me?
1 of the reason for me to upgrade the firmware though
the laggy inTAB i still accept....have u try out Galaxy S which is not tweak at all......u will feel it.......

Hi All,
I bought my galaxy tab yesterday from Currys UK. I have been a very happy user of HTC Desire and now i thought to move to bigger screen.
Today, when I connected my phone using Samsung Kies, it informed that there are new firmware (*JJ7) available for tab. My tab currently has firmware *JJ3. I am currently installing the upgrade using Kies but its kindda slow.
Few questions --
1. Firmware upgrade - I think it is same as we say ROM upgrade in HTC phones. Right?
2. In Desire, I used to get OTA (Over the air) upgrade. Is this not the case in Samsung? Will I always get updates via PC? if yes then what a shame?
3. Not sure what benefit I am gonna get after firmware upgrade but its good to be on latest official version.
Thanks in advance.

With the unofficial JM6 ROM (see the other discussion thread in this forum), there is a "Software Update" service that runs in the background, presumably to check for the latest available version of vendor-provided features...or maybe it checks for the latest Samsung stuff...not sure.
Let us know how it goes with the official firmware update.

Hi,
After firmware upgrade, i dont see any major difference, in fact i just used my new galaxy tab for few hrs so probably i would not be able to make a judgement what's the difference.
But its working very well. If you have any specific question then i can try to answer that.
One thing, I am using Google talk on my tab, messages are not in proper sorted order as per date. It's been sorted as per person which means I am getting all the other side messages on the top.
Could you please help me to figure out how can i rectify it or Do I need to upgrade my Gtalk App. Unfortunatly I am not getting this app in Mrket place.
Regards,
JM
Can you do me a favour, open your browser and go to the UK's PeakFM web site and see if you can view the page, click on any of the boxed links and navigate correctly through the web site.
I am finding certain web sites such as this and others are not being displayed correctly, so if the update has cured that I would jump at upgrading.
Thanks.

Have you seen the size of the firmware packages for the tab? Many people won't be too keen on downloading around 300MB over their cell connection.
Having to plug it into the PC once every few months is not that much of a chore.

No-one has yet to find an official changelog for any of the versions of the firmware, Samsung is unlikely to release this information to the public.

No, all my apps are intact after applying the update.
I haven't seen the email app crash since the update (it used to crash reliably every 2nd time) and I haven't had the camera preview messed up either. Of course either of these might just be luck, but here's hoping.

I just updated the firmware.
All the bugs that i know of is still there, the browser lag, the video player thumbnail generation lag, etc.
Don't know what has been fixed here, unless i can see a changelog and test it.
My phone version has been updated from J16 to JJ1.
PDA JJ1 to JK3.
EDIT: The Gallery Loading is faster...ie. it generates the thumbnails almost instantly now. I have around 5-8 folders with over 1 GB of images inside.

That may be the case but Kies is an absolute nightmare.
I also have an SGS and when I applied an upgrade for Froyo on a stock SGS with nothing altered Kies 'bricked' the phone.
Luckily I could still do the 3-Button Recovery so managed to wipe the phone clean and use Odin with the upgrade ROM from samfirmware.com
As such I am no fan of Kies and not looking forward to connecting my Tab to it.
Question to everyone else who has done the upgrade ~ has anyone experienced any difficulties with Kies and the Tab?
I just upgraded also and can't really spot any changes so far. The upgrade did preserve everything, although I had to re-root. Oddly Opera Mobile was crashing a lot also (it hardly ever did prior to the upgrade), but an uninstall and reinstall seems to have fixed that.

It worked ok for me, although what are Mac users supposed to do? Luckily I had a PC in the house I could use.
Hi,
Upgrade was quite slow. It took 30-45 mins.
My all apps and home screen customisations are intact. That's really good.

How come I don't get the update in kies? It says my device is already running the latest firmware. I'm on an unlocked and unbranded euro version of the tab.
edit: is it because I rooted it?

It's not because you've rooted anyway because I've done that and I got the update. Perhaps you really are already on the latest? My Tab is an unlocked one bought in the UK on the day of release and was running JJ3 originally.
It would appear the update is for JJ users as in JJ3 to JJ7.

Try telling that to someone who is running OS/X or Linux!
Yes, I know you can use a VM, but:
a) That *is* a chore!
b) You need to have a Windows license, which some people might not legally have.
EDIT: I see there is a Kies Mini now for OS/X users!
OTA is definitely the way to go IMHO.

Couldn't agree more with you Dave.... Kies is an absolute nightmare. Besides the insane method Samsung use, you connect and take a chance it does not brick your phone.

I'm using OSX at the moment and am fine with having to boot into my win7 partition or use my WinXP VM if need be.
In order to download a 300MB file OTA, i'd either need to change my data plan to one that costs me an extra $30/month, or pay 10c/mb for data beyond my current cap. Not everywhere has good cellular data plans, although Europe, North America and Asis, would encompass >95% of their target market, so I can't imagine they'd care too much.
Obviously they _should_ support OSX users as it's a reasonable sized market, although probably most OSX users would be more likely to get an iPad as they're already suckling at the teat of Jobs. It's simply a USB/COM gateway, basically just an adb redirect, so other than the UI it's not like it's complicated for them to implement as most of the framework already exists in the SDK.

Will try this firm for a day or more and will post the comments.

I flashed this yesterday, after having bvjp9 for a while. I like it and it certainly feels faster. UK English was default language for me, although, i had to change the keyboard from Chinese to Samsung. No issues thus far, and little bloatware.

it wont work from JPM. You need to rollback to DDJG6 and then update to this one....
Also remove boot.bin and sh.bin from package to avoid bricking

have Q MARKET and some useless software inside
this ver I5801ZHJPF is me update from kies ZHJH1 "street buy ver"
it have a "windows live msg" is only work on hongkong 3G network(wifi is not work)
Been using this ROM since morning. So far so good. Below is my observation:
1. Battery bug is there. When battery goes down, restart phone and it is good again
2. GPS is same as JPM. Got sattelite connection in under 10 seconds
3. I dnt know but looks like its me with the popping sound. Majorly happens when i am using headphones and screen goes Blank. Wake up the phone and it pops
4. Media Scanning takes longer than JPM

The version I used was ZHJPF, downloaded from another post, using medifire, before this was released by Samfirmware, and there are no erroneous apps present.
I am now able to browse the internet using HSPDA, previously only 3G was available to me using JP9. Perhaps my GiffGaff signal has improved, but it seems coincidental.
It is most definitely faster, than JP9, and, I will be keeping a close watch on battery life. WiFi and GPS are also working well. I am now rooted, and my Live Wallpapers are running smoothly.
I wanted to keep my 5801 identity, and until we get something decent in Europe, I would recommend this firmware, as a good Froyo base.

The Baseband version for this is I5801ZHJP3; not sure that helps you, but when I flashed initially, I went from JP9, and did not factory reset, and it worked just fine as an upgrade. I tried it, liked it and then reset and clean flashed.
Samfirmware twittered Froyo by the end of April for Galaxy 3, so our best bet is to try and use what we can for now.
Is the gingerbread update available yet, on Orange? I tried checking on kies a few days ago and it said I have the latest version, but I have froyo 2.2.1
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
In a word, no. Samsung withdrew the Gingerbread updates due to some fault or whatever so the only ones available are the JV1, JVK, JVB and JVA Roms which are floating around at the moment but these are primarily for unlocked devices so I don't know what effect they may have on your phone if its locked to Orange
So when will we get it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Why don't you ask Orange?
So when will we get it?
Very simple answer
After Samsung release it and Orange customise or sodomize it and Orange upload it to the Kies server .
More complicated answer Ask Samsung .

It will be weeks after the stock unmolested firmware is re-released. Im on orange too and debranded mine because I got bored waiting for Oranges 2.2. It is still sim locked though (hasnt caused any problems)If you decide to try this make sure youre 3 button download/recovery is working though-mine wasnt originally-but is now thanks to the good peeps here.
If you look in the forums you will find a free network unlock solution too.
After flashing all the Gingerbread roms though I find I keep returning to Darky's 9.5 (Froyo based).
If you do decide to de-brand & network unlock you should also consider changing you CSC to XEU too that way kies will check for the official European i9000 rom instead of a network branded version.
You can always re-flash back to a carrier rom should you want to though.

But where would you get one from ?.
That seems to be a problem 99% do not save carrier rom and few are available elsewhere .

Just like me I to hunt around for "t-mobile galaxy s odin" and sure enough google provided me with a link to a t-mobile 2.2.1 rom flashable via odin, failing that you could always use fwspoof to emulate a older carrier from and have kies re-install the carrier update.
Just thought you might have a secret stock .

Orange delayed and delayed 2.2 for the SGS, it was supposed to come out in November last year and ended up being January for the official release. This was months and months after the official unlocked versions came out, so I wouldn't hold your breath on it being a quick release.
That said 2.2.1 seemed to come out relatively quickly compared to 2.2
Fingers crossed they get bored modding all these releases with their own crap and have it as downloads from the market...as it should be.
I may have missed it in the Orange Terms and conditions, but a while a go when I read through them, I couldn't spot anything about modding phones making warranties being void (although I'd double check), so you could always try a custom ROM if you can't wait.
Logicalstep
I hooked up my galaxy S to Kies yesterday morning and was offered 2.3.3 from Orange, Installed it and all went well ... until I tried using the 3G instead of wireless, I cant access 3G at all. anyone else having this issue?

Help!!
I got the phone last sunday (15th May) from o2 and from day one I have had this problem
I updated the Samsung app then It said that there was an update available for the camera so I downloaded and started the install.
It said it would take 4 minutes but I got a error message after about 2/3 minutes and it stopped the install.
Trouble is now my camera doesn't work and I haven't got the option of trying a fresh install of the camera firmware.
Tried
soft/hard reset
flash ke2 firmware
but I cant get the camera functioning again
Any ideas apart from taking it back to the store which I dont want to do as they have no more in stock?

Have you tried flashing back to whatever firmware was on the phone when you bought it? I know you said you'd re-flashed KE2 but was that the stock FW? Try flashing stock KE1, see if that helps.
The firmware that was on it originally was the one before the ke1 but I cant find that one on o2.

Hmmm, crap... I'm actually a bit scared to try this Got the phone yesterday and would like to know for sure exactly what the Cam to phone FW dump does (even though the name is pretty explanatory).

Yeah I wonder if any can confirm that is safe to dump the camera fw to phone?
I have seen on the galaxy s forum that they have successfully used the write camera fw from phone to flash new firmware.
It would be good if it is possible to do it this way then we will be able to back up our camera firmware incase any has problems like I am having at the minute with my camera.

Right sorted phone exchanged instore (gave me one that was reserved for someone else cos they had none left)
Phone is already on KE2 firmware but this one is locked to o2.
damn, I'm another victim of the failed update via samsung apps.
Unfortunately I can not return it (bought it in another country).
Can someone take a dump of the cam firmware and upload it so I can write it properly?
Partial solution -
So I reflashed various firmwares, dumped the camera FW to phone and tried to reload it (this failed as they were the same version.
If I disable auto flash the cam works fine, though the video sometimes works and sometimes does not.
Help me plz i also have this problem and don't know what to do !!!

Do you know any firmware newer than this? bcoz i cannot update again it says i already have the latest version, but actually i have failed the update.
I got the same problem. Any solutions?

Same here, anyone came up with workable solution to reverse the update or replace with a working firmware. If it was possible just to re-install the firmware using the update then things would be so much simpler !
long shot but have you tried the emergency firmware recovery option in kies?
this thread has convinced me*not* to update the cameras firmware!
is there a change log anywhere to show what the update gives?

Try reading a few threads and you will get worried, lol. Just a pink spot on camera, a yellow tint in the lower left of the screen when using lower brightness and a blue tint when rotating. Those are just the screen issues Ignore them if you wanna sleep comfortably at night
hmm, mine don't seem to have any of those

Yes; no cwm recovery for you if you've flashed the Bell kernel back on.

As long as you're on stock Rom and not a frankenstien package you can upgrade when there is an upgrade available for your country/ carrier. If you want upgrade before use odin

The latest Samsung build I tried was KI4; excellent firmware and is leaps and bounds above the Bell firmware in every aspect. There are newer 2.3.5 builds, but I'm not on a Samsung based ROM currently.
Bell Canuck thread.
Firmware thread.
Search Original Android Dev for the latest/greatest firmware; it changes rapidly.
I wouldn't worry about updating your firmware via Kies if you're on Bell; you may NEVER see an update.
thanks for your fast reply guys !

Read and research some more until you're comfortable. You only have to worry about matching kernel to firmware if you're doing a simple root, and retaining your current firmware. I've run 3 or 4 of the XXK_ _ firmwares, which are all Euro specific. No issues whatsoever.
Bell would likely tell you to pound sand if you tried to get warranty work done however, despite the fact you would have an official Samsung firmware (but not Bell's firmware).
When/if you flash a non-Bell firmware follow the instructions in the thread I linked to the letter, and yes, PDA is all you need, it has CSC, kernel, etc... in it.
You can then track down a CF-Root kernel for that firmware.
