The instructions posted for tethering the Samsung Focus in the US with AT&T work mostly fine with Rogers -- use the following for Win 7 64-bit:
1) install the Samsung drivers (the multiupload url is in the other thread, the I don't have permission to post URLs, but the multiupload.com code is F52Z66IIEI)
2) open your phone and dial ##634# then press call
3) dial *#7284# and select "modem, tethered call"
4) the phone will reboot
5) plug in the phone and allow the installation of drivers
6) once the drivers are installed, select "device manager" in windows, choose "modems" and right-click "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem" and select "properties"
7) under the advanced tab enter the following under "Extra initialization commands":
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","rogers-core-appl1.apn"
(note that if that apn address doesn't work you can also try internet.com as an alternative)
8) under the "network and sharing center" on the control panel choose "set up a new connection or network", then "set up a dial-up connection"
9) the phone number is *99# and the username is wapuser and the password is wap
As always TWFM, YMMV.
Good luck.
Does anyone know what the settings would be for Telus?
Yes..Telus
Where the hell are you guys even getting the focus in Canada >.>. Every rogers store I've called has not gotten it yet >.>.
Se4nH4x:
I ordered it from the Roger's website -- I had to dig around, but if you go to rogers.com and type "focus" in the search box on the top right, the first link will let you order it. I ordered it on Friday and got it Wednesday. It's amazing how difficult they seem to be making it to purchase.
geological1:
For Telus, try:
phone number: #777
username and password -- leave blank
And don't put anything in the "extra initialization commands" section described for Rogers above.
If that doesn't work try signing up for a username and password at secure (dot) telusmobility (dot) com (slash) ccp. Remember to use https and not http -- http won't work. Click on register to sign up. I've heard you should use an alphanumeric username / password, without spaces, and then wait for e-mail confirmation from Telus.
Good luck.
OK Thanks a bunch.
i will try those settings later.
You can only order the Focus from Rogers online right now..that is correct.
Stores should have them by the end of the month.
For unlock just go to Ebay and search "rogers samsung focus"
What about the setting for FIDO ? I am selling an HTC HD7 and getting a Focus so I get my 3G speed back. Would really like to tether with Focus on FIDO network.
has somebody thether in Costa Rica with ICE's network
has somebody thether in Costa Rica with ICE's network
I can't make my Focus thether... I don't know what number to dial...
okay here's what worked for me for FIDO. Use ramrandhawa instructions as above with these mods:
7) under the advanced tab enter the following under "Extra initialization commands":
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","fido-core-appl1.apn"
8) under the "network and sharing center" on the control panel choose "set up a new connection or network", then "set up a dial-up connection"
9) the phone number is *99# and the username is fido and the password is fido
I used this with 32 Bit Vista OS and I am typing this on my laptop now and tethered to the phone. If you see this post then it's working !
Your Milage May Very. I am not responsible for damage. Educational use only.
And so far so good... will keep everyone updated if issues arise.
FOR TELUS
1) open your phone and dial ##634# then press call
2) dial *#7284# and select "modem, tethered call"
3) the phone will reboot
4) Now connect the Samsung Focus to the computer, using an USB cable, and wait until the drivers are being installed.
5) once the drivers are installed, select "device manager" in windows, choose "modems" and right-click "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem" and select "properties"
6) under the advanced tab enter the following under "Extra initialization commands":
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","sp.telus.com"
8) under the "network and sharing center" on the control panel choose "set up a new connection or network", then "set up a dial-up connection"
9) the phone number is *99# and the username and the password are left blank

Ok, I bought this Siemens on Ebay and it came with the Special Editon ROM 1.2. Problem is I can't ever seem to get it to connect to ATT Wireless, it has T-Mobile options but it appears to not allow ATT Wireless. It works fine as a phone and it accepts the ATT Sim Card. I went to AT&T and set up the connection so that I can connect to att GPRS. Well it connects however anytime i try to access e-mail or any website in IE or any of the web programs that came with this rom it will give me a page can't be found error. Anyone have a fix? Thank you!!!!
You should be able to connect without any problems, so I would guess your troubles are in your connection settings and not the software on your device. Do you still have the SER (a version 3 ROM) on the device or have you burned on a version 4 (WM 2003) ROM? The whole connection setting setup changed quite a bit between the two, so we'll need to know.
Where would i finf that info you requested? I unfortunately just got the device with the rom installed in it. Gotta love Ebay. I followed the tutorial on AT&T's website and it connects but any software will say page can't be found etc
This is what I did:
Setup Guide - PocketPC 2002
Setting up the Connection
Tap Start, then tap on the Settings icon from the drop-down menu.
Select the Connections tab, then tap on the Connections icon.
In the top drop-down menu, tap on the down arrow and select New...
Type in a name for your connection in the General tab window, such as AT&T GPRS. (This is the name you will see when you look in the top drop-down list on the Connections screen.)
Tap on the Modem tab, and tap on New... in the Name/Number window.
Type in a name for your connection settings, such as AT&T GPRS, then tap on the down arrow beneath "Select a modem:" and tap on the Cellular Line (GPRS) modem to select it. Tap Next to continue.
Type proxy in the Access point name field.
Tap Finish to complete the setup.
Tap OK to return to the Settings screen for the newly created connection.
Tap the Proxy Settings tab. Make sure that This network connects to the internet and This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet are both checked. In the Proxy server: field type localhost. Tap the Advanced... button.
Type localhost in the HTTP field and 9090 for the port. Type 10.250.250.250 in the WAP field and 9201 for the port. Type localhost in the Socks field and 1080 for the port. In theType: section, select Socks 4. Leave the User ID and Password fields blank.
Tap OK and tap OK to return to the Connections screen.
Making the Connection
In the top drop-down menu, select the AT&T GPRS connection you had created.
Tap Connect to establish your connection.
At the Network Log On screen, leave all of the fields blank and tap OK.
A status dialog will appear showing the status of the connection. Tap Hide to hide the status dialog.
You are now connected to the AT&T Wireless GPRS service.
Ok here you go take a look at the below thread and see if it helps:

The Problem is:
When I use explorer, no page will load. Alway show " can not find the page your are looking for"
Do yo have any solution?
Thanks in Advance

Will the only other suggestion that I have is to roll back to the
SX56 ROM A.20.17.
It can be found at:
http://www.my-siemens.com/com.apert.../da/us/mw/mc/mc/ruuv1.11_cea.20.17wwe_aws.exe
How-To roll back/reinstall:
Download the above A&T& SX56 update.
Run the downloaded .exe file.
Once it has finished 'unpacking files', cancel out of it. It should leave everything in place in the C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility.
Now download adaptROM.exe from:
http://xda-developers.com/adaptROM/
Place the adaptROM.exe in C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility
Then go to DOS and run adaptROM.exe from the C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility folder.
After adaptROM run the AT&T SX56 update again it will attempt to unpack files, **Say NO TO ALL when it asks to overwrite**. This time, go all through the update. It will update the Radio first, then the ROM of your device.

Work-around to proxy problem with 4.1.0 upgrade for ATT SX56
I just went through the same operation to upgrade my AT&T SX56 to the
latest pre-release of T-Mobile's 4.1.0 from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=21147&highlight=#21147
I followed the same steps as MrDJ described six messages earlier, and
had a similar problem to his and deepblack's, even after doing what Qman
suggested with the APN field in
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=17622#17622
I discovered that the problem also occurrs when connected through my
laptop's network card using ActiveSync, and that gave me a clue. So I
went back to my AT&T connection settings and did one other proxy
related thing.
Go the the Proxy tab and uncheck "This network uses a proxy server to
connect to the internet". After applying this setting, I was able to connect
through either the phone or the ActivevSync network connection. It turns
out that the "Access point name" in my configuration is still set to "proxy",
but it doesn't seem to matter since the connection doesn't use a proxy per
the Proxy tab.
Thanks again to XDA Developer's for running this site. It's one of the best
run and most helpful user communities I've ever seen.
HELP!! can't seem to setup internet connection Siemens SX56
Now that it's unlocked from AT&T wireless, I am able to use it on my Cincinnati Bell Wireless (an AT&T affiliate - we don't have AT&T service available in Cincinnati) as a phone and PDA only without internet connection. But their tech guys 'don't support that phone' so they can't give me the Access Point Name or WAP settings etc. to try and connect to the internet. I do have a GPRS connection and actually had already setup a WEBCLIENT account with them from my old Blackberry days (that phone sucked).
Anyway, I tried all the connection settingS as follows:
GPRS Connection, Cellular Line (GPRS), GPRS Connection +0 ~GPRS!
APN 'BLANK' (tried 'proxy' but that didn't work either)
PROXY SETTINGS:
PROXY SERVER: localhost
HTTP: localhost PORT: 9090
WAP: 10.250.250.250 PORT:9201
SOCKS: localhost PORT:1080
SOCKS 4
So, now what? I don't know where to get help and what more I need to do. I think that I need a string between +0 and ~GPRS but I don't know what it is or where to get that information.
When I try to connect now, I get a Trouble Connecting message:
"There is no answer at the number dialed. Verify phone number and then try again. To change your connection settings, tap Settings. If the problem continues, contact your ISP or network administrator."
I would really appreciate your input on this.
Thank you.

IP Port and Server URL

I don't know which version of windows your using as the MMS composer is different in WM2003SE. I can tell you how I got mine working and its a 2 stage process:
Part 1
1. Create a new connection by coing to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the lower one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one below the "My Work Network" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin MMS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin MMS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is NOT ticked" and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:", change this back to "My Work Network" (or whatever was in this field before you started this process).
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as Part 1 is complete.
Part 2
1. You need to go into MMS composer.
2. In WM2003SE you need to go into the "Tools->MMS Settings" option.
3.0 On the "Preferences" tab, in the "Connect via:" option, enter/select "Virgin MMS".
3.1 On the "Servers" tab, tap on the "New" button.
3.2 Enter a "Server name:" of "Picture Message"
3.3 Enter a "Gateway:" of "193.30.166.1".
3.4 Enter a "Port number:" of "9201". Don't worry if you don't have a "Port number:" field as the system will default to this anyway.
3.5 Enter a "Server address" of "http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002" and then tap on the "OK" button.
3.6 Tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
That's the end of the two stages and you should now be able to send picture and video messages (I've tried both).
Two things to be aware of:
1. The send/receive does seem to take ages.
2. Don't try to send pictures which aren't JPG or BMP as they won't go and you end up thinking that there's a problem with your config. I speak from experience here.
GPRS settings on Vorgin?
Slightly Off topic but I'm trying to Use my xda 1 with virgin and am trying to get the GPRS set up and am struggling, is it essentially the same settings as these?
Many thanks
Nate :?:
The GPRS setting for internet access only involves 1 stage in order to set it up. It's almost exactly the same as the first part of MMS:
1. Create a new connection by going to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the upper one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one usually below the "My ISP" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin GPRS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin GPRS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is ticked and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:", ensure that the "Virgin GPRS" entry is displayed.
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as your connection set up is now complete. You shouldn't have to do any other config work to use the internet.
Ensure that when you try this connection that you don't have your XDA docked in its cradle or you won't be connecting via GPRS.
Happy surfing.
Thanks mate, thats done it. I have tried almost exactly that and didn't get it quiteright.
Appreciate the help.
Virgin MMS
Have entered this setup info into xda2 But it still wont connect and returns the following message
Dialed:gotovirginmobile.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To
check your connection settings and change
them if needed, tap Settings. If the
problem continues, reset your mobile device
according to your manufactures documentaion
and try again
Help
Thanks
If the above text is exactly what appears on your screen then your problem is easily fixed. It looks like your missing a full stop, i.e. "gotovirginmobile.uk" should be "goto.virginmobile.uk". This is the value you entered in step 4.4 of Part 1.
I tried removing the full stop on my M1000 and I got exactly the same error reported so this should hopefully sort the problem.
Virgin MMS
Sorry my mistake I had put goto.virginmobile.uk in at step 4.4
but omitted it from my previous post
Should the connection for MMS use the same one that internet explorer uses, that one uses one called MOBILE WEB GPRS that appears to have the same setup. Browsing on the internet works OK

Hi all,
i have recently bought a laptop and as i am away alot, it would be helpful for me to connect to the internet through my phone. e.g. use my phone as a modem. However i cannot find any documentation on how to do this?
Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and how? I have tried through activesync but no luck.
If you could let me know that would be brilliant!
Thanks
Yeah its possible... just finished setting it up on mine This site helps:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprsconnect.html
But i'll walk you through cos it took me a while to get it to work...
Firstly, are you on pay monthly or pay as you go?
There should be a program on you're XDA called "Modem Link" that is used for this. You can do it either over USB or infrared, though i recommend USB cos its much faster
Open this program and choose usb, then pick the Access Point you use to connect to GPRS normally on youre phone (check in the connection settings to see which AP corresponds to which settings if you need to) then press activate.
Now connect your phone to the laptop with the usb cable, and the new hardware wizard will pop up. Allow it to search the internet (you need a connection) and it'll install it automatically for you.
Then, On the PC, go to the Networking section of the Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control panel > Network)
Select "Make new connection" (this should start a setup wizard)
Choose "Dial up to Internet"
Choose the "connect via a modem" option
Enter the telephone number to dial as *99# (No area code, and turn off dialing rules)
Username for Pay Monthly is: o2wap
and for Pay and Go is: payandgo
Password for both is: password
When complete, go to Control panel > networks, and right-click on the icon for your GPRS connection. Choose properties and set the following: Connect Using - select your modem (infrared / USB)
You need change one other thing - to do with your modem settings. Do this as follows:
Go to Start > Settings > Control panel > Modems
On the Modems tab, select your modem, and press Properties
On the Advanced tab, you need to enter string in "Extra initialization commands". This initialisation string will need to be entered as:
+CGDCONT =1,"IP","wap.o2.co.uk" (for contract)
or
+CGDCONT =1,"IP","payandgo.o2.co.uk" (for PAYG)
Note the space before the =1. obviously dont include the bit in brackets.
I found I then needed to go into internet explorer and go on Internet Options > connections tab > choose "dail when network connection not present"
and then select the GPRS connection you made earlier > press settings > enable proxy server.
use the following ip address for the proxy server:
193.113.200.195
Now, I'm not sure which port number you will need, because it says to use 9201 but that didn't work for me, i use 8080. try both and see which will lets you load up a page.
press ok and try to load a page in IE. dial you connection when asked and it should work. try google as a test.
Tell me if you run into any problems.. I have it working on my pay as you go sim.. I have no idea if it will work on pay monthly, you might need to try using some of these settings:

Hello everyone!!
I bet you're all frustrated checking this solution or that solution but in then end getting back to where you started at.
I've been there and done that and luckily for me, it's only been a week of sleepless nights to solve instead of months for some.
So, I am writing this thread from my Dopod 838 Pro, but it will work with any other Dopod/Hermes running on WM5:
Procedure by now I'm sure you will be used to:
1.Pair OSX and the phone. You might need to check the "any device" checkbox on OSX's pairing utility.
2. Verify to OSX that you do want to use that device as a modem (if you don't get that dialog, then you will need to create the Bluetooth connection yourself -- message me or leave a comment if you need instructions and I will reply to you).
3. Download the IPAQ GSM modem script at www.taniwha.org.uk
4. Go to your System Preferences/Network/Bluetooth/. There enter the following:
Service Provider: [blank]
Account Name: [check with provider]
Password: [check with provider]
Tel number: *99# THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! (the *99***1# number doesn't work with the HTC/Dopod phones)
On PPP options uncheck "tcp header compression".
On the Modem tab uncheck both "enable error correction" and "wait for dial tone". From the modem drop-down menu select the iPaq-GSM modem script.
Then, click Apply and then open the "Internet Connect" application and select Bluetooth from there. Click "Connect" and you should now be connected on the net via GPRS/EDGE.
Please make sure you've followed the instructions carefully. It may sound like the same as others but the key is the telephone number.
Good luck!
Art.
You may also use Internet Sharing application - I find this cleaner.
Basically, you just pair the phone from the Mac (be sure to initiate pairing form the Mac side - NOT the phone).
Then, launch Internet Sharing appliation and, choose bluetooth and hit START.
Then, under the Bluetooth icon (next to the Spotlight), select JOIN NETWORK ON [HERMES BT NAME].
Voila
Hi,
I recieved a rogers samsung focus today.
Inserted my bell sim card, and booted. was asked for a code, i entered an unlock code i got and it was accepted.
I can send and receieve calls and text msgs, however i can not get an data on the phone, via web browser, live hotmail, or xbox app.
I accessed the diag app via ##634#, however when i try enter the root menu (*#197328640#) nothing happens
I suspect the issue is the network profile is not set to auto, and rogers manuelly configured the phone with there xml profile.
with the LG wp7 device i was using yesterday i could "SET ADC" :enable" or "set network profile", via the ##634# menu => factory menu => engineer menu => other settings
anyone have any suggestions?
apn
in settings add bells apn and it should work fine, stay out of the diagnostic menu, there shouldn't be anything there to change, I can't remeber where in settings it is but there is a spot to add an apn,
WOW that was pretty easy.
APN location: settings/cellular/add APN
Bell lists the info on their site, for reference the APN settings are;
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy server: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
I've added the APN to the focus and browsing and xbox live work, i wonder if adding the proxy server would make things faster/better signal? and if so, how?
On another note, when i renegotiated my plan last week MMS was added, and i was using it on my LG WP7 Device. How do i change the MMS setting on the focus?
From bell's site;
Enter the following in the Message Centre/MMS gateway field:
MMSC URL: htp://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
I'm on Bell and thinking about getting a focus as well.
How is it? Is everything working correctly?
How do you go about getting an unlock code?
1. Go to the phone app
2. Dial ##634# and click Send
3. When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
4. You should now be at "Factory Menu"
5. Choose "Engineer Menu"
6. Choose "Other Setting"
7. Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
8. From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
9. You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files. These appear to be the network configuration files.
10. Look at the filenames for the config files and take your best guess at which one to choose for your provider. I'm on AT&T and I fixed the MMS problem by choosing "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml"
After you choose that *.xml profile, your MMS should be working."
The changes they are making are the ones to change the MMS capability as this can be carrier locked – outside of the phone lock/unlock status.

I got my unlock code through a local cellphone shop (gave him the IMBI #), downtown london(ont), not sure where he got it from, seems to have worked.
I can call and recieve text msgs but data is a bit of an issue.
You have to add APN for bell (proxy server would make things speed up unboudtably but no field for it).
It almost feel like you have to push or send a signal for data to turn on / start. usually the first time i try a webpage or bing search it doesn't work, get error " no network or wi-fi"
in terms of phone i like it better then LG optimum bell offers (had it for a week). didn't like the slide out keyboard, typing # was a pain (virtual keyboard pretty got and auto correct awesome). Also, larger screen and significantly lighter. Colours are more vivid as well, green is green not some yellow derivative.
be warned though, many many things that are lacking, january update will be interesting.
*****just tried sending picture txt no luck.....******
------- hopefully someone will figure out how to access the focus profile xml
on a side note:
after many many speedtests in London, Ont, and Hamilton,Ont; DL speed on bell caped at 3 mbps. (tests were on both LG optimum and SAMSUNG Focus)
I suspect that the $10 fee, Bell will be introducing in the next few weeks shale be to increase speed beyond this.

No dice - 277634#*# does nothing at the diagnostics menu. It just sits there looking at me. Are you sure this is the correct code?
the 277634#*# is for the LG MGF "app" you get installed when you dial ##634# on an LG WP7 phone it doesn't work on a samsung device. It doesn't work on mine, and i have yet to see anyne state that it works on theres.
The closest thing is a "app" that gets installed when you dial ##634# called "diag"
try entering in the diag program (found either by app menu or dialing ##634# again):

Yeah I get it all the time when downloading dada, wether its in the market place, emails or netflix...!
as for the data. I was having trouble too, then went into Settings>cellular>add APN>
and I noticed that when I was searching for a network there, it was coming up scan unsuccessful. So I deleted my APN, and scanned again, found the right network, which for me was EINSTEIN HOME, (IN WIS USA) and added internet.air.net with no password or username and now apparently Im on the data network.
Great! Now the Focus and the Quantum I have are data ready, just looking further into the MMS settings. Thanks to a link I found on here, I have the registry key that the settings are in, but unlike windows, I cant just type regedit and change the settings, so trying to find a windows phone 7 regeditor to change that and all set. Will post if I find one. Thanks again guys. ohh and I saw someone is on this, (the MMS settings already, if I see a solution there too Ill post it as well. Good luck!
I got it to work on my Focus Bell Canada using the following thread:
