Hi,
I recieved a rogers samsung focus today.
Inserted my bell sim card, and booted. was asked for a code, i entered an unlock code i got and it was accepted.
I can send and receieve calls and text msgs, however i can not get an data on the phone, via web browser, live hotmail, or xbox app.
I accessed the diag app via ##634#, however when i try enter the root menu (*#197328640#) nothing happens
I suspect the issue is the network profile is not set to auto, and rogers manuelly configured the phone with there xml profile.
with the LG wp7 device i was using yesterday i could "SET ADC" :enable" or "set network profile", via the ##634# menu => factory menu => engineer menu => other settings
anyone have any suggestions?
apn
in settings add bells apn and it should work fine, stay out of the diagnostic menu, there shouldn't be anything there to change, I can't remeber where in settings it is but there is a spot to add an apn,
WOW that was pretty easy.
APN location: settings/cellular/add APN
Bell lists the info on their site, for reference the APN settings are;
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy server: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
I've added the APN to the focus and browsing and xbox live work, i wonder if adding the proxy server would make things faster/better signal? and if so, how?
On another note, when i renegotiated my plan last week MMS was added, and i was using it on my LG WP7 Device. How do i change the MMS setting on the focus?
From bell's site;
Enter the following in the Message Centre/MMS gateway field:
MMSC URL: htp://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
I'm on Bell and thinking about getting a focus as well.
How is it? Is everything working correctly?
How do you go about getting an unlock code?
1. Go to the phone app
2. Dial ##634# and click Send
3. When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
4. You should now be at "Factory Menu"
5. Choose "Engineer Menu"
6. Choose "Other Setting"
7. Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
8. From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
9. You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files. These appear to be the network configuration files.
10. Look at the filenames for the config files and take your best guess at which one to choose for your provider. I'm on AT&T and I fixed the MMS problem by choosing "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml"
After you choose that *.xml profile, your MMS should be working."
The changes they are making are the ones to change the MMS capability as this can be carrier locked – outside of the phone lock/unlock status.

I got my unlock code through a local cellphone shop (gave him the IMBI #), downtown london(ont), not sure where he got it from, seems to have worked.
I can call and recieve text msgs but data is a bit of an issue.
You have to add APN for bell (proxy server would make things speed up unboudtably but no field for it).
It almost feel like you have to push or send a signal for data to turn on / start. usually the first time i try a webpage or bing search it doesn't work, get error " no network or wi-fi"
in terms of phone i like it better then LG optimum bell offers (had it for a week). didn't like the slide out keyboard, typing # was a pain (virtual keyboard pretty got and auto correct awesome). Also, larger screen and significantly lighter. Colours are more vivid as well, green is green not some yellow derivative.
be warned though, many many things that are lacking, january update will be interesting.
*****just tried sending picture txt no luck.....******
------- hopefully someone will figure out how to access the focus profile xml
on a side note:
after many many speedtests in London, Ont, and Hamilton,Ont; DL speed on bell caped at 3 mbps. (tests were on both LG optimum and SAMSUNG Focus)
I suspect that the $10 fee, Bell will be introducing in the next few weeks shale be to increase speed beyond this.

##634# on a focus brings up a different menu "diag" not "MFG"
anyone have any other ideas?
I live in London and have a Samsung focus to, can u tell me where is this shop?
Update?
Hey Reaver_Shadow, did you ever get your MMS to work on your phone?

No dice - 277634#*# does nothing at the diagnostics menu. It just sits there looking at me. Are you sure this is the correct code?
the 277634#*# is for the LG MGF "app" you get installed when you dial ##634# on an LG WP7 phone it doesn't work on a samsung device. It doesn't work on mine, and i have yet to see anyne state that it works on theres.
The closest thing is a "app" that gets installed when you dial ##634# called "diag"
try entering in the diag program (found either by app menu or dialing ##634# again):
*#197328640#
and see if it works or just sits there and stares
Yeah still my biggest problem is MMS settings in the phone. Does anyone get a 3G+ symbol on the signal menu? Trying to understand why it doesnt say if HSPA is connected or not...

Yeah I get it all the time when downloading dada, wether its in the market place, emails or netflix...!
as for the data. I was having trouble too, then went into Settings>cellular>add APN>
and I noticed that when I was searching for a network there, it was coming up scan unsuccessful. So I deleted my APN, and scanned again, found the right network, which for me was EINSTEIN HOME, (IN WIS USA) and added internet.air.net with no password or username and now apparently Im on the data network.
Great! Now the Focus and the Quantum I have are data ready, just looking further into the MMS settings. Thanks to a link I found on here, I have the registry key that the settings are in, but unlike windows, I cant just type regedit and change the settings, so trying to find a windows phone 7 regeditor to change that and all set. Will post if I find one. Thanks again guys. ohh and I saw someone is on this, (the MMS settings already, if I see a solution there too Ill post it as well. Good luck!
I got it to work on my Focus Bell Canada using the following thread:

I was happily using my shipped Cingular ROM here in Australia on a Telstra SIM.
So of course I had to try to upgrade to the new ROM. :-(
Now I CANNOT get the telsra.wap configured to make a 3G connection.
I put the Cingular/ATT SIM card back in and the 3G connected just fine (slow, as usual so the phone is physically working.
I checked the Wiki/FAQ's and there are no cabs for setting the communications stuff for Oz/Telstra.
Can anyone help? I am at wits freaking end - mostly because this is a self inflicted wound.
I am ready to pay in cookies or cash!
I have provided the setup instructions from Telstra below - they all seemed to work fine. The WAP proxy has a hard coded Port=9201 in it, and there is a hard-coded apac-nc02;1080 in the Socks.
I have NOT deleted the Cingular/ATT supplied MediaNet.
When I connect through Telstra Internet the connection seems to get made (it does not return an error) but no web pages are available. I have not tried other internet connections.

Im pretty sure its got something to do with Telstra using NextG???? (or something to that effect).......i think i read that they use UMTS850....not 800 but there is a way to fix it......il raise the issue in IRC and see what happens.
EDIT:: try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1273423&postcount=2
Holy MOG.
I think I followed that (I was technical back in the PDP/8 days....) - what are the odds of bricking my phone doing that?
I get that I need a registry editor (can find that again in the FAQ's) but what is this extended ROM stuff?
Thanks!
err ok telstra isnt running proper 3G yet, its a slightly modified CDMA 2. thats why they could get the network running faster than they first announced.
proper 3G wont be available till the end of the year, as far as the public is concerned though its running now although technically speaking its more like 2.75G
that might have something to do with it ?
What I find confusing was that on my previous ROM with the Telstra SIM I got the "U" for UTMS and got pretty darn fast action. (In Brisbane, if that matters.)
Now I can put in my AT&T SIM and get ok-ish speed with a "G", but since I never tried my AT&T SIM before I can't say if that is better/worse/same.
And when I put in my Telstra SIM I get the "3G" but since I don't have data yet I can't say what the xmit speed is like.
I've downloaded the regedit thing and will take a whack at that.
This must be how my parents feel when they get .dll problems on their windows box.
Ok, so I did the suggested registry edits, double checked them, put down my scotch (kidding, it's 11am here!), and tried the internet again.
I still get the "3G" logo with the <-/-> arrows but after it says connecting it comes back with a IE error: The page yo uare looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80088000.
Argh.
Thoughts?
i got standard rom on my hermes on the Australian Telstra network (woot staff rates) i dont get the 3G icon or logo either just the U (Telstra UTMS)

How do you come to this conclusion? Simply because its not being run on 2100Mhz?
I am also stuck with this same problem on 3. My network is always "U" never anything different. Does UTMS mean G and UTMS 3 mean 3G?
noobish i know but my old phone said 3 plain and simple...
Ok, I got the internet working - cannot tell if it is faster/slower than before I flashed the ROM - probably I am just too darn relieved to have it working again at all!
I'll do a hard reset and verify that these are the settings (did not have to do the hack on the registry!). They do differ from Telstra's reccy's. Of course.
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help!

Could you be more specific in your claims? How do you claim to read these project plans and then not be able to tell me how you know its not 'real 3G'.
For your information, Telstra has already been running a seperate CDMA2000 network on the 800Mhz spectrum since Dec 2002. CDMA2000 is considered a '3G' network if it has EVDO.
Telstra's NextG network (completely seperate to the CDMA) is a TRUE UMTS service running on the 850Mhz spectrum. The network theoretically supports 14.4Mpbs, but 3.6Mbps and 1.2Mbps have actually been achieved by users. These speeds alone classify the network as a 3G service.
Check the facts before you define NextG as a modified cdma 2/cdma 2000 or "2.75G" .
gee sorry i only work for them and all yet you seem to know what you are talking about,
i dont care either way being on staff plans rocks when you get free data every month and pay bugger all for the phone.
Look, mate, its obvious you don't have any technical knowledge...

Telstra settings for 3g
Hi all, been down the same road with 3g Telstra.
There is a fix to set up all settings etc fairly easy when flashing with wm6.
1. do your flash...
2. need to edit the bands to allow our phone to use Telstra's frequencys
(see below)
3. run Telstra's own setup cab that they use in the original imate ext_rom
4. just go into settings/phone/band...select "auto" on network type
select "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
thats about it
Works for me everytime I've flashed, get wap when its out of range for 3g and get telstra internet 3g every other time
E=Edge average, 3g=Umts=H on connections
notes:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Telstra "odd" bands (must do some reg exports for next time, and to share), use a reg editor like resco's etc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(taken from XDA site) if anyone else needs them, This Registry patch works for the Hermes.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005
You really just need to add ItemName5 and 6, and ItemValue5 and 6, and change the ItemCount from 4 to 6 (as you added two options) using your favorite Registry Editor.
Do a soft reboot of the phone. Now you can select the NextG option GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. copy the telstra cab onto your phone then run, this sets up the Telstra Wap and Teletra Internet connection, as well as the proxy manager.
It does load some other junk onto the system like telstra bussiness etc , but this is easy to delete or move to another start menu group.
sometimes when setting up email accounts and such you may have to fiddle with the programmes "connect with " network setting and point it to :telstra internet or as in my case use "work" connection.
hope this helps
Fadge
yep on that "staff plan", data usage is a killer, and $8 for 3mb is useless for a phone that can do so much...thats my whinge for the day...

So this post doesn't make you think that perhaps i do have more knowledge about the NextG network than you assume?
Its obvious you have no clue about the network. You are yet to back up your claims of the network being 'not real 3G' and a 'highly modified cdma 2' - despite the fact you have read the so called 'project plans'.
And yet you tell me to go to www.whirlpool.com.au (such a reliable source of network build information! *sarcasm*) to prove yourself right.
So i'm still waiting to see how you can make such claims...

Hi New Zealanders or travellers to NZ.
Below are the instructions for setting up your GPRS and MMS settings in WM6.1 for the Vodafone network in New Zealand. Getting these settings to work on my HTC Wizard has been a big mission and has basically come down to trial and error. Using these settings, you will have a GPRS connection when you are out of WiFi range, and you will be able to send and recieve MMS/PXT without problem.
The manual step by step instructions on the Vodafone NZ website for the i-Mate K-JAM didn't work, and their mobile portal where the settings can be SMS'd to your phone didn't come through to mine (despite SMS working perfectly well when sending and receiving from others). Also, no other resource was any help either (even going in to the Vodafone store resulted in shruggs from the staff who basically said "you bought it overseas, we don't support that phone, we can't help you" - dicks).
So, I've assumed I'm not the only other one out there having a nightmare with VFNZ settings and have decided to give something back to the site that has helped me so much (thanks xda-developers!).
Assuming you don't have any settings existing in your phone (maybe a hard-reset is a good idea to clear everything first), these settings should work like a charm.
Setting up GPRS (Internet access)
1. On the handset, tap on the Start button.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Tap on Connections tab.
4. Tap on the Connections Icon.
5. Tap on Add a new modem connection under My ISP.
6. Enter VFNZ Internet in the Enter a name for the connection field.
7. Select Cellular Line (GPRS) in the drop down list of Select a modem.
8. Tap Next.
9. Enter www.vodafone.net.nz in the Access point name field.
10. Tap Next.
11. Leave the User name field blank.
12. Leave the Password & Domain fields blank.
13. Tap Advanced.
14. Select Use server-assigned IP address.
15. Tap OK.
16. Tap Finish.
Setting up MMS/PXT
1. On the handset, tap on the Start button.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Tap on Connections tab.
4. Tap on the Connections icon.
5. Under My Work Network, tap on Add a new modem connection.
6. Enter Vodafone MMS in the Enter a name for the connection field.
7. Select Cellular Line (GPRS) in the drop down list of Select a modem.
8. Tap Next.
9. Enter live.vodafone.com in the Access point name field. Tap Next.
10. Enter 'voda' in the User name field.
11. Enter 'fone' in the Password field and leave the Domain field blank.
12. Tap Advanced.
13. Select Use server-assigned IP address. Tap OK.
14. Tap Finish.
15. Tap on the Proxy Settings tab. Make sure the two boxes are unticked.
16. Tap OK 3 times to get back to the today screen.
17. Push the on the handset Messaging button.
18. Tap on Menu which is located at the bottom right corner.
19. Tap on Options.
20. Tap on MMS to bring up the MMS Configuration.
21. Tap on the Servers tab.
22. Tap on the New button.
23. Enter VFNZ MMS in the Server name field.
24. Enter 172.30.38.3 in the Gateway field.
25. Enter 9201 Port number field.
26. Enter http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend in the Server Address field.
27. Select My Work Network in the Connect via drop down selection.
28. Select WAP 1.2 in the WAP Version drop down selection.
29. Tap on OK.
30. Select VFNZ MMS in the MMS Configuration list.
31. Tap on Set As Default.
32. Tap OK 3 times to get back to the Today screen.
And there you have it. I believe you need to actually send an MMS message to someone before you are able to start receiving them, so make sure you do that after configuring the phone. Good luck!
You are my hero. Ive been trying for 2 months since I got one of these phones to get the settings working. Even the guy at the local Vodafone shop had NO clue what he was doing.

Hi micool_nz
I am using samsung Omnia mobile in NZ bought from singapore. It has got windows mobile 6.1 OS. I have been trying to set up the MMS configuration in my mobile but failed. Even now, I followed your suggestions and didnt get it to work for some reason. It keeps on saying me could not send MMS msg. Kindly help. I have options for WAP 1.0 ,WAP 2.0 or none as options and not WAP 1.2 in my mobile. Also, in step 22. I cant find server tab, instead I have sending, receiving, profile, compose and about tabs. In profile tab, I have 2 options - set profile as default or edit profile. When I go add new profile and followed your suggestions as below
MMS Profile - VFNZ MMS
MMSC - http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
Data Connections - Among the options vodafone MMS and Vodafone, I selected vodafone as that is my network name. But tried with both and didnt work.
Gateway - WAP 1.0 or WAP 2.0 tried both but didnt work
IP Address - 172.30.38.3
Port - 9201
Despite of following all the above settings, my MMS is not working.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
VBRS
Samsung Omnia
Hi vbrsekhar
Did you get your internet sorted? I have been struggling for more than a month to get connected to the internet with my Omnia.
I have tried the GPRS settings as described here, but it is still not connecting.
I get this error message. "Dialed: www .vodafone. net. nz Cannot connect for unknown reason. To check your connection settings...".
Vodafone nz can't help. Samsung omnia is not supported by them. I have tried another network with different setting of course, and it works fine.
Settings
Hi Guys,
Try the settings in this CAB file, it automatically updates all NZ Vodafone settings.
The only thing I have currently found is an odd MMS problem with WM 6.5 not automatically being set up through this cab however you should be able to add it sucessfully the manual way as described above.
And don't bother with asking the Vodafone storeclerks they're hired just to sell phones, i've run into problems trying to get data plans loaded (they didn't even know what the phone was )
No Start\Settings\Connections
Hi guys
Thanks for the CAB file enclave.
I got a HTC HD2 in Australia locked to Telstra, I want to use it on Vodafone here in NZ. I have made some reg edits to get rid of some Telstra stuff, and have installed this cab file above which unlocked a few things, but still can not get the "Start\Settings\Connections" dialogue to come up.
Anybody know where in the registry I can turn this menu item back on?
I hit START, I hit the cog shaped SETTINGS icon, I get a Blue Settings menu, which has WIRELESS CONTROLS and DATA SERVICES but nothing about CONNECTIONS.
I want to set up VODAFONE MMS in the My Work Network but can't find it!
Matt
Try automatic configuration on the HD2

I hit START, I hit the cog shaped SETTINGS icon, I get a Blue Settings menu, which has WIRELESS CONTROLS and DATA SERVICES but nothing about CONNECTIONS.

Hi Matt,
I too now have an HTC HD2 (International Version) and I found there is an easy way for the settings to be configured automatically from the Vodafone network. This should work for you too, unless the Telstra version of the HD2 has some network locks.
On the Blue settings menu you described where you saw Wireless Controls and Data Services, down the bottom right there should be a Menu option. Tap on that and select All Settings. From there, tap on Connections, then tap on Connection Setup.
All going well you should have two drop down lists. One with the Country (change it to New Zealand if it isn't already selected) and the second one with Operator (select Vodafone NZ if it isn't already selected). Tap on the OK option on the bottom left and the correct settings (including MMS/PXT settings) will be automatically downloaded to your phone from the VF network.
It worked a treat for me on my HD2. See how you go
Regards,
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for that.
There is a MENU button and it does have a CONNECTIONS tab on it but it doesn't take me to a CONNECTION SETUP, just to the
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Set up my proxy server
Manage existing connections
menu, I might try adding the vodafone MMS settings you suggeste in your initial post here and see how it flies....
...oops, we reached our limit.
Fingers too fat to type on the thing, too many hours spent in set up, it is going back to the shop.
Bye everybody, thanks for help, peace and love.

You are actually my personal jesus, thank you so much for these settings.
Hi Guys,
Any chance of a Cab for UK Vodafone setting. Tried to edit reg but cant Unlock MMS Server For Change..
Help welcome
How did I solve MMS problem!
Once in the MFG Menu...
1. Click 7 for Engineer Settings.
2. Then click 6 for Other Settings.
3. Select Set ADC (auto data configuration);
4. Set Enable;
5. Shut down, change SIM card and restart;
6. Reinsert your SIM card and restart;
7. In Setting/Celular/ Data Conection ON
8. Send MMS!
Let me know if this help
This really works. When I installed the Open EU firmware, everything was automatically working after the first reboot, including the MMS
nope...doesnt help me at all
This works for the majority of American and European carriers. However, if your service provider does not support ADC, then you are out of luck.
Hi,
did you try this app from lg store?
(Network Setup.xap)
I run this one in my phone and voilá, MMS is enabled.

LG E900 Optimus 7 (Maximo 7 in Portugal)
I have an unlocked E900 (bought SIM free) with an Orange UK SIM card - tried the MFG method, no dice. Installed the App from the LG section of Marketplace (after changing ADC back to disabled), MMS worked straight away - thanks to Marcus for the pointer.
Neither option has worked for me (T-Mo USA network), though I didn't remove my SIM, restart phone, shut down, and re-insert the SIM again. Is this necessary?
Hi,
The above method stated by the original poster did not work for me but the following method did:
( I have my sim card in for this)
1) enter the MFG app (dial ##634#)
2) Input the password 277634#*# and press enter
3) Choose No. 7 engineer menu
4) in the engineer sub-menu choose other setting.
5) Choose Set Network Profiles
Let the list populate
6) Scroll down the list and find your appropriate carrier and select the appropriate xml, so for me in the UK:
on Vodafone it was: _PROV_VDF_UK234_15_ENG.xml
7) Exit the mfg app, restart phone
8) confirm that data connection is active in settings>mobile network
That's what fixed MMS for me, hope this helps.
I tried all of the methods listed in this post, but nothing worked for me with my LG Optimus 7 on the T-Mobile USA network. Specifically, none of the included profiles were remotely close to what I needed.
Anyhow, finally Laquox helped me work it out in this thread -- and now I'm up and running with proper MMS support. Nice
Help

You need to add the proper network profile. Follow the steps posted by Tatteltale, until you get to step 5.

Now continue with Tatteltales instructions

MMS
Thanks for the reply
But when I check for the list it doesn't populate a list at all.
Also when I check the registry I notice I have O2 and Orange listed as MMS providers.
I was thinking the only way to aviod this is to install a EU unbranded Rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks
John
Thank you
Hi Everyone
Just wanted to say thank you for everything my MMS now works.

it Works well !
thanks
When I try to access the "set network profiles" menu, as it populates the list, the system seems to crash and bring me back to the applist on the home screen.
Is this as a result of mango update? It was working only a couple of months ago, weird.
Any ideas?

I had your same problem. So I just uninstalled the app, then reinstalled it by the original procedure, and then I could access the "set network profiles" menu again. Finally I was able to set my profile, I thought it only listed the network profiles for the operator in the countries where WP7 are sold but it listed most oi not ALL operators. It listed all the operators in my country.

Thanks a lot for all the helps I received.
Happy new year 2014 !
So I ported over my number from AT&T to Simplemobile for the 40 dollar monthly unlimited everything plan. I have everything working except data. I keep trying to change the APN but it's not working. Does anybody know exactly what settings I need to get data to work on the Samsung Focus? My phone is unlocked by the way. Thanks!

What exactly have you tried so far?
Thanks for the reply! Well I've tried using the Samsung Network Profile app, tried changing the APN by naming the APN "simple." I've also tried using the names simplemobile, Simple Mobile, but anyways its not working. Supposedly simple is supposed to work for the HD7, but it's not working for the focus

I wonder...
Do this: delete all APN you have manually entered.
Change the radio to World instead of North America in Settings/Applications/radio
Then, switch the profile to AT&T from Network profile, reset, then switch back to Simplemobile and reset again.
I hope this does the trick, if it doesn't you would need specific information from Simplemobile...
Type simple in both username and password. I figured it out by chance.
Thanks for the help, can you tell me exactly how you have your focus setup? I'm trying what you said and it isn't working. Do you have the samsung network app installed?
goto the APN settings..
under APN name use value " WWW" thats it.. save it.. restart the phone (if required).
So mine stopped working as well. I have an old Tmobile Dash and it works through that. I do have the Network profile installed as well as the Samsung tools. My focus is totally unlocked, but right now it makes no difference.
So, I deleted the APN and started from scratch. Network settings installed as well as Samsung tools with the 3G marker checked. Even though the 3G cannot work on Tmobile, when I enabled it and then typed in simple for APN, it works.
Hope this helps.
Please Help
Hey can you guys please explain how you got the data and MMS to work on your simple mobile unlocked Focus. I have the Network profile App, but cant find the Samsung tools app on the market place.
Also, what goes into the APN settings (Proxy server, username, etc)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
if in the us your apn (att) would be
APN = wap.cingular
USER NAME = [email protected]
PASSWORD = cingular1
I think that I have internet working on my Samsung Focus on Simple Mobile. I say 'think', because often when I try to open a website I am taken to the url androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html which displays a 503 error. I tested just now by turning off wi-fi, trying to open a web page over and over again. I got this URL and 503 error a few times and then a web page finally loaded. It's not terribly useful, but it occasionally works - so I'm assuming this is more a problem with the connection than with the settings. Sometimes the cell indicator flips between an E and a G. I don't know what the G means, it's not documented that I could find.
I cannot get MMS to work, and based on my research and some others have said this too, it cannot be made to work. Samsung has an app called "Network Profile" that will change the MMS settings for the Focus, but there is no option for Simple Mobile. Until Samsung updates the app for Simple Mobile, we are out of luck.
The settings I use to get data/internet to work on my Focus are:
Under: Settings - Cellular
Data connection: On
Data roaming options: Don't Roam
Network selection: Automatic
Edit/Create APN
APN: simple
User name: [blank]
Password: [blank]
Proxy server/URL: 216.155.165.50
Proxy port: 8080
Windows Phone 7 & Simple Mobile & Internet
The thing I think that is left out of most of the instructions is to go to the secret menu by going to the dialer and entering ##634# and then go to MMS and change the apn there to simple.
Now my Dell Venue Pro is on Simple Mobile and the Internet finally works!
How did you change you MMS settings in diagnostic mode? I can only see the code but cannot find a code to edit the mms or data settings.
I am still stuck even after adding simple apn

The reason most people leave that step out is because it is not a step they can follow. The original question was about the Focus, and the Focus doesn't let users specify the MMS settings. From what I've read, only the Dell Venue Pro gives users direct access to the MMS settings. Which is why it's the only WP7 phone that Simple Mobile officially supports for MMS.
Samsung has a network app for the Focus that allows you to pick a carrier and then it changes the settings as appropriate. Unfortunately, it doesn't support many carriers.
I'm considering making the switch to TMobile prepaid - TMobile shows up in the nework app along with AT&T and so should be supported.
UPDATE: Switched to TMobile. Using the "Network Profile" app set to automatic network profile changing = On and Active Profile = T-Moile USA, I received MMS messages right away. Will do internet testing later. For 10 bucks less a month I would've preferred to stay with Simple Mobile, but since Microsoft / Samsung lock the MMS settings down & Samsung hasn't updated their Network Profile app to support more carriers, I had to make the switch. Glad at least the mms piece is working.
I was able to successfully use both 3G data AND send/receive MMS with the following settings:
APN: simple
MMS:
MMS APC: simple
MMSC: h77p://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapeng (Replace sevens with "t"; new user controls...)
AUTH TYPE: None
All other fields are to be left blank.
As mentioned, these settings worked for me marvelously. ...For roughly ten minutes. Then the phone wouldn't wake up, I had to do a battery pull, and mms stopped working. When I go to check the mms settings in EM, it holds onto every value (including blank ones) save for the following:
MMS PORT: (blank)
AUTH TYPE: "None"
Whenever I select "Apply" to save settings, it always force resets those two values to the following:
MMS PORT: 80
AUTH TYPE: "PAP"
Hopefully this is all easy to understand. I've tried at length to search both xda and the world-wide-webz for an answer, but I'm coming up blank. I've always been able to figure this junk out for myself, but this is my first WP7 device, and I'm all kinds of 'tarded with it, haha.
You might want to enable the automatic sim settings. This setting is off by default due to samsung. I think the reason is to keep people on the same carrier that the phone was originally intended for use ie. samsung focus Att
1. Bring up diagnotics app ##634#
2. open diagnostics app located in your apps list (swipe left from start screen)
3. in the diagnostic app type 40*047#3
4. there will be a confimation prompt to confirm autosim detection
5. then the phone will restart and you should have MMS and cellular functionality and internet
This has helped my samsung focus from dropping in and out of my 3g connection...wonderful ...hope this works for you and confirm if it does work please.
I take no credit for this method and here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241721
I got mine working without mms. Jailbroke the phone and followed the steps to enable internet connection sharing... that added samsung tools. I don't know what in the end made the difference but I was able to use network profile to tmobile and then add apn simple and it worked.
Since then I moved to straight talk .. att.mvno worked for them for apn but still no mms.

hi,
trying to use my unlocked ls993 in Verizon. voice and text work, but no data. the apn setting is missing all together, so can not add apn.
when putting in a tmobile sim, the apn appears and I can add t apn and data works.
any suggestions to make the v apn appears?
thanks.
I can help, go to your dialer and from there type *#546368#*993#
Then navigate to field test then navigate and there should be the second option. Go to pdp and then apn then you can add it from there.

Code not working on my LS993, but thank you for trying to help Still looking for the code for this model.
So just found out the code that worked in my LS993 is:
5689#*993#
(credit: https://idealkaynak.net/lg-g6-hidden-menu-kodlari/)
With that I added xfinity mobile apn. Once saved I had data, but was connected with 3G only, with DL speed of 0.8MPS. I was not happy, thought reboot the phone might make it better. Rebooted, then I lost data connection altogether; call and text still work, no apn in control but with the hidden menu access I see my apn is still there.
So I am stuck again. Any suggestions? Is there anyway I can force the g6 to load "carrier settings" of some sort?
Hi, did you find a way to add the APN. I have the same issue.
same problem
i have the same problem and checking on other post a guy says that you have to enter on hidden menu and apn settings and there are two options edit and view. chose edit and erase all apn including otasn after that have to appear in the normal mobile network menu the three dots to add the apn of your cellphone company. but you need the msl code or service code.
any suggestions of how to get the msl code and try this ?
