mms settings problem

i went to my isp to set gprs and all messaging settings
but remarked that i have no access to set my mms settings or has some
menu item missing ......................
i have qtek2020i , has anyone found such a problem , my device is new........

Internet over GPRS settings for your Qtek 2020i
Tap Start - Settings - Connections
Select Add a new modem connection from My ISP
Connection name: go online
Select a mode: Cellular Line GPRS
Select Next
Access point name : gosurfing (contract users)
rtgsurfing (prepaid users)
Leave user name, password and domain blank
Tap on Advanced
Set server-assigned IP address only
Tap on Servers
Set Use server-assigned addresses
Tap on OK
Tap on Finish
Tap on OK and go back to Main screen
To connect, tap on G symbol in the main screen and select Connect GPRS
Upon connection, open Internet Explorer and enter web page address

Tap Start - Settings - tap on Connections tab
Tap on Connections icon
Select Add a new modem connection from the My Work Network list
Enter go mobile mms as connection name
Select Cellular Line (GPRS) as a modem

Leave domain blank and tap Finish
Close all open windows

Tap the Servers tab
Tap New

Sending size limitation : 100K
Tap OK
Select go mobile and tap Set as default
Tap OK to go back to the Messaging page.
To start sending mms, tap on Inbox and select the mms queue from the dropdown list

the problem is when i press tools {in part 2} to set mms messaging i do not have
MMS settings in my menu..................

i think that my new phone lacks mms menu or rom software ,
infact i have no means of sending pictures through mms , i can only send through email, bltouth, infrared , text messages but not through mms...............

I have located the MMS cab install from an Alpine extended ROM. Copy to QTEK and tap to run, you may have to do a soft reset when finished. This should install all the MMS software. Let me know if it works

I just thought, another thing you could try is a 'cold reset' This will reset the qtek, to factory settings (out of the box). If there is no problem with your extended ROM (has all the qtek programs), then MMS etc should install.
**Note** Please read the 'Important' section before you carry out the cold reset.
1. Cold reset by holding your power button down and pushing the soft reset at the same time. Your qtek will then reboot.
2. Once re-booted it will go into the standard screen setup. After this the programs from your extended rom will start to install, your screenlight may turn off at this stage, just tap power button to turn back on, you will see quite a few automatic installations, let these finish at the end you qtek will reboot and all should be installed, including your MMS.
3. If MMS etc are still not installed then reuse the MMS file you downloaded temporarily then I would return to the shop for repair or replacement.
*Important*
Things to do before cold reset
a. Copy anything you want saved to your computer.
b. Go to 'settings/system/permanent save, on your qtek. Tick the boxes to permanently save the information. (these will be saved when you cold reset)
Things to do after cold reset
a. You will have to re-install any programs you have previously installed.
b. Don't forget to re-install the apps that came with your qtek cd.
c. Go to 'settings/system/permanent save, on your qtek and tick the boxes that you want restored.

mms/vpn/terminal services help - warning LONG!

ok - had my tytn (on vodafone) for a week now (infact we've got about 10 of them at work so I've been seting them all up). Had a few issues - no sms notification of voicemails (used the vodfone.net email/alerts service as per forum and works now), a strange issue where all handsets could send sms but would not receive 100% of them (from any network) (had to hard reset all the devices!!)
the main one I have struggled with is the connections.
I got my internet set up no problems pretty much strsight away.
I also got a vpn connection setup and working and then ran into the issue where you would open terminal services client and try and connect to one of the machines on the vpn and it would just drop the vpn connection straight away - turned out to be fixed by putting the servers I wanted to connect to via terminal services in the exceptions list and then ouila - i could open terminal services client - tell it to connect to the server i wanted and as if by magic the device would fire up the internet connection, then the vpn connection and then the desktop would connect!

Finally I turned my attention to getting mms working (it was enabled on the sims - I checked) - I noticed there was no mms server in mms service properties (under messaging) so created that.
Tried to send an mms to self and it just tried to send it and then it just would sit in outbox.
then I downloaded a cab of vodafone settings from one of the forums - mms now sent received fine but later discovered that vpn would not connect Finally I worked out that my exlusions had stopped working! Tried removing all the settings but it still wouldnt work. Searched to see if there was a registry key to enable this but couldnt find on. Finally after several hours I bit the bullet and did a hard reset. Set it all up again as previously (minus the vodafone cab) and all was well as again (but no mms again)
I then found the mms server settings on a forum and manually entered them and mms was working again - then discovered that If I tried to connect to the net it would use the wap connection under work (not the my isp one under internet even though settings were for progs to connect via my isp) - that I thought I could live with until I discovered that my vpn would try and connect and after a bit just fail!! (I'm guessing that the server that the wap connection uses doesnt allow vpn traffic whereas the one that the internet connection (gprs/3g) does)
So I'm really stuggling to get everything working together.
The only solution I have come up with so far is to put the wap connection as an additional connection under my isp and then switch to it when I want to send an mms (and I guess to receive one as well which is a bit useless, and i'm still not convinced of doing it this way).
Has anyone managed to get all of this working together!!! or am I just missing/misunderstanding something? Can someone explain!!?
here is a summary of what I have tried:
changed mms server to use "my isp" - wont send
as above but with mms proxy in for port 9201 - wont send
as above but changed to use "my work connection" - tries to establish vpn when sending mms
as above but removed proxies for http/s - tries to establish a vpn again
as above but put in vodafone wap connection under my isp - message sent ok! and received ok (over vodafone wap conn) - but no vpn!
took proxy out all together and works fine - but no vpn!
vpn still connects with term servcs (over vodafone wap conn)
If you have read this far - thanks! Sorry for the length of the post but I thought my experiences of some of the headaches I've had with the devices may be useful to others and save them some stress.
btw other than that I think the TYTN is great - works well and already some of our users are pleased because they can work more when out on the road - and happy users mean a happy techie

ok - have got it all working now - the key to mms/internet was to create a new isp connection for mms and set mms messaging option to use that connection.
for vpn you need to put the servers you want to connect to in the exceptions list - then when you try and connect to them they should fire up the vpn.
here is summary of settings entered for internet/mms
GPRS
Start -> Settings
Tap the 'Connections' tab at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the 'Connections' icon.
Tap the 'Advanced' tab at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the 'Select Networks'
Tap the 'New button' directly under the first drop down box.
Enter Vodafone into the text box and then tap the 'Modem' tab at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the 'New' button.
Enter Vodafone into the text box and then select 'Cellular Line (GPRS/3G)'. Tap the 'Next' button to proceed.
Enter internet into the text box. Tap the 'Next' button to proceed.
Enter web into 'Username' and web into 'Password'. 'Domain' is left blank. Tap the 'Finish' to complete the setup.
Tap 'Ok' at the top right of the screen to exit out.
You should now be able to access the internet.
MMS
Start -> Settings
Tap the 'Connections' tab at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the 'Connections' icon.

Unable to connect to the internet on Vodafone

I bought a Generic unbranded X1. I put my Vodafone SIM in it and did a hard reset as Vodafone have suggested. When it has finished setting up and downloaded the settings from Vodafone I still cannot access the internet in either IE or Opera. I have searched the internet and tried changing the settings but still get nothing.
Can someone please give me a list of all the settings I need so that I can manually set up the connection.
By the way it's a Dutch Vodafone SIM but that makes no difference as internet was working on my P1 and the ANP and user name and password are the same.

This is the daft thing. I put my UK O2 SIM in and everything works fine.
Why is it that Vodafone have to screw everything up. Surely it can't be that complicated.

In order to access Vodafone live you will need the Wap settings below;
1. From the main display Tap the Start tab.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Tap the Connections Tab at the bottom of the Screen.
4. Tap on Connections Icon.
5. Tap on the Advanced Tab
6. Tap Select Networks
7. Under the top drop-down box tap New…
8. Enter My Gprs as the name
9. Tap the Modem Tab, and then tap New…
10. In the Enter a name for the connection in the box, Enter Vodafone WAP.
11. In the Select a modem Box, tap the Arrow icon, Tap Cellular line (GPRS, 3G).
12. Tap Next.
13. In the Access point name Box, and enter:

If you are a Pay as you Talk customer: pp.vodafone.co.uk
14. Tap Next.
15. In the User Name Box, Enter wap

The best thing to do is to delete the vf settings (there's a reg key that you change to enable them to be edited on this very forum) and then start again from Scratch.
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\<Account> and then modify the ReadOnly key to 0.
One of the main problems is the stock setting of "my isp" by VF, this seems to screw up connect via "the internet" which is what quite a few progs are looking for.
Disable all proxies and check to see if the advanced network settings uses chap rather than pap.
Personally I got rid of all the PAYT stuff and the wap, I never bother with either microsoft or vodafone live services.
Other option is to flash to an unbranded rom..

You get more applications running over the internet APN, only thing which won't work is the Vodafone Live homepage, which is pointless anyway.

Had the same problem - until I read something on this forum earlier.
Try this:
Go to: Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Advanced Networking
And change the band from HSUPA/HSDPA to GPRS. Then soft-reset.
The connection settings (as on the website unchanged) from vodafone should now work.. (did for me).
You can then change it back to HSDPA or HSUPA/HSDPA (and it should still work)..

YES at last, you are a star. That has at least got me getting a connection.
My panels update themselves so I know that the phone is receiving data.
My only problem now is that I cannot load any internet pages either in Opera or IE. Windows Live will not let me sign in and neither will MSN Messenger.

No worries - had the same issue on my Dutch X1i.
Do your panels run in the background? It seems mine terminate (i.e. if I activate FB, then switch to the fish, the FB panel terminates).
On your connecting, had that problem with my Kaiser - until I worked out that the Connections applet under Settings-->Connections-->Connections is fussy.
Make sure you have your GPRS settings in "My ISP", and that My ISP is selected under "Select Networks" for "prgrams that use internet".
If you are using a proxy, you'll notice that you can't get a proxy under "My ISP". Don't ask me why MS did this
Set the proxy settings under "My Work" (without a GPRS Modem connection under "My Work". I think it defaults to use the modem connection under "My ISP".
All other permutations (creating your own set of settings under "Select Networks", using a mix of own/My Work/My ISP, proved to be unreliable. Took me months to work that out.

By the way I have the same problem with the Facebook panel. If you navigate away from the Facebook panel by selecting another panel then it logs you out, however if you just start IE, Opera or Windows Live over the top of the panel then it keeps you logged in.

Yeah, I noticed that too so it seems the panels API replaces the today screen with an overlay when you choose a "panel", which is probably why you can have either Today or Radio or Dashwire. Lol.
Ah well, still quite a functional interface I think.

Proxy server
To all of you: if you just switch of the proxy server of your Vodafone Live! connection then all problems are gone. Only thing is you cant't access the Vodafone Life! pages, but who cares about that.

And if you set the proxy server as part of the Work Network, then everything works.. Problem originates (*I think*) where Windows Mobile wants to use "My ISP" regardless of what you set in Connections-->Select Networks. So unless you know the relevant Reg Hack(s), ur effectively stuffed. This might be especially true for things like Messenger.
Drove me nuts for MONTHS. I'm happy to say that mine works now (vodafone live, internet, all applications, everything etc).
Anyhoo, just thinking out the box, setting the proxy server together with your ISP settings (e.g. settings bundle "Vodafone Live!" together with Proxy IP) might very well route all your internet traffic through the Vodafone Network (and presumably firewall, thus protecting your device from e.g. Malware on the 'net.
Ah well, since that doesn't work cause WinMo is fussy, I run Trend Micro as well - Windows Mobile.

Im a vodafone UK customer, wondering if any other Voda UK customers could share all their settings (MMS, gprs/3g/hsdpa) so any other fools like me could attempt to reset the settings!

Have a look at the settings I posted earlier if that will help, if not log onto the Vodafone forum and ask there as they seem to be quite helpful...

You would think they would be easy 2 find on Vodafone.co.uk... but check kirkie's post (#3).
My suggestion is delete all settings you can find in "Connections", and start again with My ISP, using the settings (e.g. connection name, Proxy IP address etc).
Keep in mind though, that there is a low chance that hidden settings were changed (which are only accesible through the Reg). In short trying to find what it changed might be a mission and a hard reset might be your easiest option (the fix cab may have altered settings in ur Reg like hidden proxy switch etc etc). The time spent re-installing is peanuts compared to trying to work out what it changed
I know I know - but it happened to me as I tried the same with AT&T fix cabs and sat screwed for a week or so.

yeah i followed what kirkie listed, although it still seems to attempt to dial a VFDE connection (german), and the connections list i can access doesnt seem to be the full list (theres still some german connections somewhere else i cant access)
might just have todo a reset. pain in the arse tbh, got it all setup how i like lol.

hard reset and restore using dashwire made my life nice and easy.. only took 5 mins to reinstall all the little apps/panel's i'd aquired.

SPB Free Panel - Weather

Hello guys
I was wondering what your experiences are with the weather feature on the free SPB panel. Is the weather supposed to auto update? there is an option set to automatically update, but for some reason mine doesnt. But when im connected to wifi or active sync it updates.
I have made sure non of the other options are ticked like docked or free connection as I want it to update through GPRS.
Can someone tell me if its supposed to update through GPRS or whether its designed to update only through wi-fi and active sync.
I have a vodafone x1 if that helps.

I had the same problem, and fixed it by either:
1 - amending the MMS settings (voda sent me the settings which needed to be entered manually), if you're getting MMS messages OK then it isn't this.
2 - Change connection settings from post #7 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450502
Not sure which one it was cos I did them both at around the same time and noticed weather updates regularly then!

Sounds like you are using the Vodafone WAP settings to surf the web (classed as MyISP). This tends to block most requests that aren't done via a browser* and instead you should use Vodafone Internet settings (classed as WEB).
*that said quite a lot off apps now run over the WAP APN on Vodafone as they have tweaked the firewall

Does anyone know if I need to change any settings on AT&T? I love the graphics of this app, but it won't initiate its own internet connection. I have to check email or use the browser first to get the weather to update. I looked at SPB forums and no one knows why. Tried re-installing, but that didn't help either.

for anyone who shares the problem:
On your Xperia go to....
settings
then select the connections tab
then the connections icon
followed by the advanced tab
Now chosse the select networks button and in the top drop down menu (the connection for programs which automatically connect to the net to use) and change it to "WEB" rather than "My ISP".
Then you need to set up mms again otherwise you wont be able to send messages

this should fix the mms problem and allow the panel to update without proxy

Can you please confirm if vodafone live stops working after changing from my ISP to WEB

MMS issues with unlocked HD2

Hello all, I am requesting help with an issue that I am having with my HD2.
Ive had the phone for a little over a month now, and it is a great device. I bought the phone unlocked, and it was working just fine. But recently the pass code (the 4 digit pin to use the phone) to unlock the phone stopped working, because of this i had to do a hard reset on the phone. This set everything back to factory settings.
After some work I got most of everything back to normal, my only issue that i am having is Sending MMS messages. I have the server set up correctly as well as the data connections to the internet but for some reason it still wont let me send MMS messages.
I searched all over the board but nothing i found could help me so far.
If anyone has any advice or know how on how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

7. Tap the Select a modem drop-down list and select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) > Next.
8. In the Access point name: field, enter goto.virginmobile.uk > Next.
9. Enter the user name and password listed below. If no value is listed, leave the field blank.

10. Tap Finish.
11. Tap ok three times
12. Tap x to close the Settings screen.
Setting up the MMS account
1. On the handset, tap Start > Messages.
2. Tap Menu > Settings >Options > Menu >MMS server > New.
3. In the Server name: field, enter Virgin MMS
4. In the IP address: field, enter 193.30.166.2
5. In the Port number: field, enter 8080
6. In the Server address: field, enter http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
7. Tap the Connect via: drop down list and select Virgin MMS
8. Tap the WAP Version: drop down list and select WAP 2.0 > Done
9. Tap and hold on Virgin MMS and select Set As Default.
10. Press the end call key to return to the home screen.
The settings have been applied and are ready for use.

Ive searched the entire board thoruoughly, and unfortunatly most of them only talk about fixing the MMS server (which isnt my problem), unless i overlooked something

@Shum97 i appreciate that, but thats the set up for Virgin Mobile phones, not ATT

i dont know about at+t but on o2 uk i have to have two data connections set up. One is the proper mobile data "mobile web", the other is wap, "o2 active", and this is the one used for mms.
If i set the mms settings to use the regular data account it fails.
Thing is, when you go to settings all settings connection connection and press 'manage existing connections' you only see the mobile web account available to edit.
What you need to do to see the other is go to advanced tab, and 'select networks'.
In the top dropdown, mine says mobile web, but if i change that and choose o2 active instead, click OK, and now go back to the tasks tab, the top half now lets me click 'manage existing accounts' to edit the o2 active account instead of the mobile web account.
(dont forget to change it back, else progs that auto connect to the net will try to use the wap account. In my case it still works, but is slow, and i think costs.)
So, , , not sure if it is any help to you, but when i set up manually, (and i have done three or four times) i ...
1 - set up the o2 active wap account
2 - set up the mobile data account
3 - set up the mms server settings, making sure to choose o2 active and not mobile web as the connection.

only if the 'connection setup' has details of the at+t network in it. connection setup for the euro leo can be found as a cab, im sure the tmo one can be too, but i suspect neither will have att network settings in it.
Id guess it's manual all the way, sorry.
