[Q] Recovering Paid Apps After Hard Reset - Focus General

Does anyone know if Zune saves your paid apps in the event you want to reinstall them to your Focus after a hard reset? I may have to return my 32GB SanDisk Class 2 card as I experienced a random reboot to factory settings last night. I am returning the card and getting a Windows Phone certified card as soon as they are sold retail. However, I am not sure how do I go about reinstalling paid apps. I see Zune has a history of paid apps so I am assuming you can reinstall them at no charge later? Anyone go through this?

Make sure you deactivate your phone in Zune. I am sure it will give you an option to re-download everything. It works pretty much exactly like Xbox does.
Edit: Looks like I am right

It will give you the list, but if you installed from the Marketplace on your phone you'll have to search for them again and reinstall them there. I wish there were an option on the phone where you could view your purchased app and choose which to reinstall.

Same here. I'm dreading my storage upgrade in the future. I've loaded all my apps via the phone's marketplace.

Did you reinstall your "Phone Elitist" app? Only $50.99 and it does absolutely nothing. Just brag that you bought it. How did that make it to the Marketplace?

Microsoft should barrow a page from the iPhone playbook and run backups of the device via Zune from time to time, with an option to restore. If the phone is reset, just like iTunes let it restore everything as it was from the backup - OR - let the user do it all again from scratch.

WM6.5 just has a my apps section and lets you install them from there. That would be handy...

Def. a plus on the iTunes side of the game. I dont usually have that many apps installed but was a nice to have for those "just in case times" - like this one tiome at band camp...when i installed iOS 4 on my 3G ...

Just heard this is coming in the first update!

I've had two Focus's and hard reset them more than 10 times total. When I use my live id it has automatically reinstalled the apps I had on my phone. Both paid Nd non paid.

Any Apps downloaded via Zune Software will be automatically reinstalled on your phone but items downloaded via Marketplace you will have to reinstall manually

Kies Uploading and Storing Phone Numbers to Samsung Servers

In recent versions of Kies it asks to backup phone numbers before upgrading and checking for new firmware. At least for the shw-m110s which is the Korean Galaxy S.
Recognise this?

Have you wondered where it backs up to? Have you ever answered "No" when there is an upgrade available?
I got this message while upgrading from DG14 to DI03 in the "Firmware Upgrade" window after unchecking "Back up contacts before upgrading firmware".
"your phone numbers will be saved on the servers for two years"
Sure they won't use them but I find it interesting that they don't inform you before hand where thing get backed up to.
Bah! All my contacts are on my Google accounts, nothing on the phone itself...
The hole concept of "cloud computing" is based on server located data and, you DO have to agree with this to continue. They tell you on page 2 instead of page 1, I don't see the problem here!

Not so much a problem, more of a notice to others who just select to backup.
And actually the additional information about being stored on their servers only appears if you opt out and if there is actually an update available.
If there is no update the only thing you see in the first window. If you check the box, it sends your data and then reports you're on the latest firmware. There is no additional information about where things are being stored on later windows.
It would make more sense for the "Agree to Store Information" notice to be in the first window.

I indeed wasn't aware of it, because i haven't got an update yet. The only screen which is presented to me suggests that is only stored on my pc
Koe, I briefly mentioned this in the Korean Galaxy S forum, but I also didn't realize that they would be storing and saving these in the cloud. Typically I don't care much with Google because of the way they typically require governments to go through at least all the necessary procedures before compliance with requests. I wonder how Samsung would treat a similar situation and if I should let it have any weight in my decision.
IIRC, if there is no update then they actually backup contacts to your computer. I'll have to look back into it. There wasn't an update available but I thought it told me that I had successfully backed up (to my computer?....I shouldn't just blow through so many prompts .)
I'll let you know if I can find out what Kies did/didn't do my machine.
Storing Phone Numbers to Samsung Servers
I did upgrade my firmware and i did Storing Phone Numbers to Samsung Servers and it went wrong with upgrading. How do i get my phonenumbers back from the Samsung Servers?
aye I don't bother backing up contacts as I sync all of my with my exchange account using exchange-activesync

General questions are general

This isn't exactly a one off question so I'm not sure whether it should be with the questions threads or the general threads.
but im getting the feeling that its only a matter of time before someone will be like omg this should be in the questions thread and have a go at me or whatever...
So my galaxy note arrived yesterday, wooh!
i came from wm6.5 so yeppp.. big step up.
currently im running speedmod with checkrom v6.
anyways a few questions.
1. if i have one contact but say a mobile and a home phone number, do i need to make seperate contacts for each number, or is there a way to add both numbers to the same contact?
i could add both to a single contact on windows mobile (which is like a bajillion years old) so i was hoping that i could do it with android but i cant find it... :S
2. is it possible to change the location where a program stores its information?
currently i use spotify to sync my music from my laptop to the phone.
it does a pretty good job.
however, it stores the local songs on the phones internal storage, meaning if i do a wipe cuz im installing a new rom or something, i have to resync all those songs.
if there is like a registry key or something that just points to directory, i might be able to change that.
ive googled it, returned with this:
http://www.spotify.com/au/help/faq/...-store-offline-music-on-the-external-sd-card/
but i get stuck at step 4 cuz there is no "SD Location" option.
again i have no idea, ive only been on android for a bit longer than a day so yea...
still a noob.
cheers.
1. Open your contacts, select the name and hit edit. Press + to add the details you want. Save.
2. Your internal sd does not lose the data, so your mp3 files are safe. Unless and until you format that usb storage.
As for transferring your apps to sd, go to applications n settings tab, select the app and choose move to sd. Not all apps can be moved this way, especially system apps. Try 3rd party softwares like app2sd, etc.
And dont worry about your thread being moved or what. XDA is one of the poorly moderated forums in such that you see the same questions like "how do i go to xxx from yyy" on top of each other in any given day.

Spotify puts them in your Android/data/com.spotifyblahlblahblah folder.
i believe the entire Android folder is wiped on full factory reset.

im not trying to move the app itself, rather the directory to which it points towards.

[Q] New S4 19500 Dose not allow to install ANYTHING

Hello friends,
I've just brought a brand NEW S4, and I was using it for 2 weeks now, but because of work, I did not had the time to use it for anything besides phone calls. Now when I have some free time, I've decided to install some apps and games from Play Store on it.
And here lies the problem; I can not download anything from Play Store, or from Chrome or regular browser on my phone, I always get an error. That's a big problem, but it's not the only problem. For last 3 or 4 days I'm getting the unusually amount of lag, fallowed by "process system is closed".
What can I do? I've wiped the data from play store and from Chrome, but with no effect.
Note, that my phone is not rooted, and I've did not installed anything from "unknown sources" I've just used the phone as it was, right out of the box.
So what are my options? Can this somehow be fixed, or is the "trip" to the repair shop, my only option?
Thanks.

In the battery details, I noticed that there is new "Media" app running all the time and the phone is becoming very hot while it's in my pocket. This application is eating my batterie and I don't know how to stop it...
Any help please? I uploaderd some screenshots for you.

Thank you for you help. My phone is rooted. I installed Greenify and wakelock... Unfortunately this media app is a kind of multiple system services, it dont show in the task manager or greenify... And I can't stop it form the menu cause it restart again (the force stop button is disabled)...
The services are:
- Media Storage
- Downloads
- DRM Protected Content Storage
- Download Manager
And they are using 90% of my CPU all the time (doing what ever they are doing)... I've made some search and it seems that it's an android related problème (not only the LG G2)... I've disabled the Downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage and Download Manager services... But I cannot disable the Media storage... It seems that this service keep scanning a corrupted media file (MP3 and photos...), so I deleted all my MP3 but no way
I finally done a reset to factory settings... Will see
Try Rescan Media
I had the same problem om my GS3, this solved it.
do you have fully synced backup aps running,
try disabling in this case via settings, general, backup&restore the checkbox at backup my data.
That way you probably wont have to disable those services.
I think some app, or this backup settings have gone amuck. Factory reset is last resort, but otherwise clearing cache\app data of backup stuff might help.

What Bachera said. Sounds like you have an app that's eating you alive. Titanium Backup then Factory reset. Don't restore anything until you test your phone, then if all is well add apps one at a time. DON"T restore system data. Good luck!
Actually it's a new phone (and i'm new at Android as well) so I didn't have that much data to backup... I did a rest to factory setting with no backup. It's working for the moment

Google apps not working on mobile data

Hello,
I've a OP 8Pro running on Android 11 (11.0.9.9.IN11BBA), since the last hot fix with the recent security updates and fixes released by OP I'm facing an issue when using mobile data, if i try to browse google discover services I get the prompt as if i'm not connected to internet, then when trying to browse on google chrome i get the error "ERR_NO_SUPPORTED_PROXIES", however, if i open pages in private mode all is working fine, other services like WhatsApp or others apps are working fine and there is internet connection through 4G.
I tried clear up cache & data of google apps, reinstall google apps, reset default APN from the carrierr, reboots and other suggestions I've found browsing around forums but so far no luck... and is currently frustrating since common google things are not working.
Hello @pepi0
I have a One Plus 7 pro with Android 11 and I have the same problem. Did you found the solution?
Thanks a lot
Any news on this, I've got the same issue and alsoo tried everything the thread starter tried without luck
I've been struggling with this problem for more than a year and came up with the conclusion it has something to do with planned obsolescence or Oneplus phone.
My Android phone is 5 years old (Oneplus 5T) and I have the issue only with google apps. I've also tried to clear up cache & data of google apps, reinstall google apps, reset default APN from the carrierr, reboots and other suggestions but absolutely no change at all.
I found a temporary solution:
Whenever the app is not working, disable and enable mobile data and go back to the app .
It works for me for every google app but chrome.
I decided to buy a new phone with Black Friday and the issue is solved on the new phone, but I couldn't add any of my current credit cards to google wallet, because of a more annoying and unsolvable bug...
Since the new phone did not offer a huge User Experience difference from Oneplus I'm returming the phone and went back to my old OnePlus.
For the chrome issue I've decided to switch to another default browser and voilĂ !
Sorry it's not more helpful but hope it might be of any use...
Hey! It's me again!
Seeing that it seemed related to OnePlus phones from every message in the thread I just called OnePlus support and got the following troubleshooting:
1) Go to Google Play Store settings and set App Download preferences to "Ask me everytime"
2) Open Google Play Store App info, then reach the 3dots menu on the top right and uninstal updates.
3) It will ask if you want to replace the app with Factory Version. Tap Yes
4) Do the same for every Google App having issues
5) You might need to restart the phone or the apps won't work
The key is to NEVER update the apps again and make sure they wont update automatically. It's kind of annoying to say the least but (for now...) I won't have to buy another phone.

Hi, need to add that I've LG G8s, not an OnePlus. But the exact same symptoms. Reverting the GApps isn't a possibility for me, since LG rolled out 2 big updates, the last one before christimas, bringing the device to Android 12.
I tried several things the last months:
e.g. I tried the SIM card of my girlfriend, who has another provider, and everything worked on mobile data. So I asked my provider for a new SIM card, reset APN, no changes, no GApps working...
I then ended up hard resetting the device and installing everything from the scratch again, no change.
But I've made another interesting observation... Installing a VPN (WIndscribe) and connecting to it while on mobile data will make all GApps work again. As soon as I disconnect, the're offline again?!
So my conclusion as a noob, there must be some wrong settings (in the system, google dependent), which even with hard reset an APN reset aren't fixed. Any ideas?
