[Q] how to access "system" folder in DroidExplorer? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
I'm using mdeejay's Desire FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 build.
the issue i'm having is that when i'm connected to Droid Explorer i can't access the system folder.
i can see it. but when i try to explore it i only can see the "build.prob" file and the "lost+found"folder inside of it.
i didn't have this issue of the evo rom or nesux1 rom. only in desire roms.
i have read that desire roms in original desire phones are nand protected. and the system folder can be accessed only in recovery mode (which we don't have) but i've been searching for any workaround with no luck.
please any help is highly appreciated.
thanks.

[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard For HD Builds??

My preferred Android build choice is the desire_hd2 build. I have tried out various other builds and one recently, a MIUI build had the new Gingerbread keyboard running on it. After trying it out and liking it I have searched the net to try and find an apk or another way to port the Gingerbread keyboard onto a Desire HD handset, or more specific, onto my HD2. The only way which I have found to do this is through recovery mode on a Desire HD. As far as I know you cant run recovery mode on any Android build on a HD2.
I have downloaded a few zip files which had the system files. I copied them to the Android folder (In my case it was the desire_hd2 folder), created a root folder and moved the system files into the root folder and restarted. Once booted back up I tried to send a sms using the Gingerbread keyboard and a force close message comes up
This has led me to ask the XDA community for help on getting this new keyboard onto our Desire HD builds. I know it can be done for CM6 or MIUI builds but not for Desire HD builds. Any help would be appreciated.
+1 for this
+2 for this
using MCCM hd2 build and cant seem to get GGB keyboard working
+1 to this too, but the Gingerbread keyboard still doesn't work right for Froyo in general, let alone a specific build.
Don't need to put it in the root folder, use root explorer, extract apk from zip and push it into system/app
reboot and it should work! it is clearly mentioned in the thread with the apk of GBKeyboard

Keyboard itself works pretty well, though spell check is only in English...

I have already tried this method but it still comes up with the force close issue. I have tried moving the LatinIME.apk folder into system/app and libjni_latinime.so into system/lib and no joy, I even tried with and without the META-INF folder as well but alas, I still get the force close issue.
i was surfing the threads for an easy way to install this famous gingerbread keyboard and i found it and it installs like if it was an app and im using HD2 with Nexus One build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202

I have tried this link and installed the Gingerbread keyboard successfully. After going through settings to activate the keyboard and then selecting the Gingerbread keyboard from the input selection while in sms, the same force close issue is still present.
It seems the only Android build this force close is affecting is the Desire HD build, or more specifically, the new Sense interface.

[Q] New on kernel Update - help

hi
i would like to update the kernel on my hd2 but i are not sure how to, i have search on serval guides but they all tell a different way to install kernels and so its a jungle out there. and i don't wont anything to go wrong.
so could anybody explain to me how to update your kernel and which kernel i have to choose for my os.
Spec
Wm: chuckydroid rom
radio 2.15
android: superhd2 v.1.4
kernel: miladkhani - 2.6.32.15
If you want to change kernels in your android build you just download the kernel you want, open the file and copy files into the android folder, zimage, root, devs, etc. Reboot, your done.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I tried that, took hastarin r8,6 kernel and copied it to my sd card - reboot, and a different screen showed in the startup sequence. But when i go into settings - about phone. It is stil miladkhani 2.6.32.15 kernel
Take the files from the new kernel, one at a time, and place them into the android folder, copying over the existing files. Don't leave the file on your sd card, put them all in the android folder.

Can't view online flash videos, iplayer, m.tvcatchup... HELP!

HEY GUYS
im using mdj's desire hd 4.6 rom and having issues view most online videos. I really wanna watch my futy on it but the sound works and screen stays blank. Help please
Sent from my HTC Desire HD2
i have a similar problem
I can't view any online flash videos either. But when I try the browser just completely shuts down. No force close message just shutdown. Core cell Rom
@ kev
You need to download an older version of flash and install it or download the newest version off the marketplace and install it, search and you'll find em.
@n33dy
Never encountered your problem before. As in the screen is blank as if it was in standby? Or does it keep on one particular frame of the video and not move, but sound keeps playing, and the device doesn't respond?
If it's the latter, it is that you've run out of RAM and need to free it up by either closing some apps, or you can soft reset your device.
Or you could just try a different rom and maybe you won't have the problem anymore.
yes make sure you have adobe flash player installed from the android market!
Iv got the latest version of flash on already...

how did you get it working
I copied the system files into my root system folder... makesure superuser is granted to root explorer.
Step by step,
Open root explorer
Find your downloaded files and copy the files from the 'lib' folder.
goto your root folders and open the lib folder which is inside the system folder.
Paste the files there, this will replace the existing files.
Now go back to your downloaded files and copy the one form the etc folder.
Go back to root, system open etc and then paste that 1 file.
Reboot and it should be running now.

MCCM V8 Gingerbread Build Upgrade

Hi, I haven't posted much round here, so I can't ask this question on the Dev thread about this.
I have MCCM's Gingerbread 2.3.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694) installed on SD, but it's the previous V7.
Is there anyway I can upgrade from V7 to V8 without losing txt's, apps, general settings (i.e. layout on homescreens, etc)? Calendar/Contacts not an issue as I sync to PC.
I did try to havea look through the thread for info on upgrading but got lost in the 100+ pages.
Thanks,
Ian
Can anyone give me any advice with this please?

You just have to copy over your data.img from your current build to the new one.
Either that, or copy over all of the new files over onto your current build and replace everything except for data.img (if it is included). And also, copy over the folder to your pc in case something untoward happens.
Hi ian200t, looking at the first post on the thread you linked to it says that it should be ok to upgrade using existing data.img.
to be sure though do a titanium backup (dont restore system (red) files) and google synch contacts, calenders.
make a copy of your data.img on your computer using a cardreader or wm6.5
download V8 and copy contents of android folder to your SD card android folder (copy and replace all), your existing data.img will not be overwritten and all should work ok.
Excellent, thanks for your replies guys. Will give that a go!

when you put something in system/app you don`t "run" them.
just reboot the phone. the apk will be installed automatically.
cheers
