[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard For HD Builds?? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

My preferred Android build choice is the desire_hd2 build. I have tried out various other builds and one recently, a MIUI build had the new Gingerbread keyboard running on it. After trying it out and liking it I have searched the net to try and find an apk or another way to port the Gingerbread keyboard onto a Desire HD handset, or more specific, onto my HD2. The only way which I have found to do this is through recovery mode on a Desire HD. As far as I know you cant run recovery mode on any Android build on a HD2.
I have downloaded a few zip files which had the system files. I copied them to the Android folder (In my case it was the desire_hd2 folder), created a root folder and moved the system files into the root folder and restarted. Once booted back up I tried to send a sms using the Gingerbread keyboard and a force close message comes up
This has led me to ask the XDA community for help on getting this new keyboard onto our Desire HD builds. I know it can be done for CM6 or MIUI builds but not for Desire HD builds. Any help would be appreciated.

+1 for this

+2 for this
using MCCM hd2 build and cant seem to get GGB keyboard working

+1 to this too, but the Gingerbread keyboard still doesn't work right for Froyo in general, let alone a specific build.

Don't need to put it in the root folder, use root explorer, extract apk from zip and push it into system/app
reboot and it should work! it is clearly mentioned in the thread with the apk of GBKeyboard

Keyboard itself works pretty well, though spell check is only in English...

I have already tried this method but it still comes up with the force close issue. I have tried moving the LatinIME.apk folder into system/app and libjni_latinime.so into system/lib and no joy, I even tried with and without the META-INF folder as well but alas, I still get the force close issue.

i was surfing the threads for an easy way to install this famous gingerbread keyboard and i found it and it installs like if it was an app and im using HD2 with Nexus One build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202

I have tried this link and installed the Gingerbread keyboard successfully. After going through settings to activate the keyboard and then selecting the Gingerbread keyboard from the input selection while in sms, the same force close issue is still present.
It seems the only Android build this force close is affecting is the Desire HD build, or more specifically, the new Sense interface.

Htc Dialer and Contacts apk

Does anyone know where i could get the apk for the htc smart dialer and contacts applications found in the rogers build?
Android Market. 3 day free trial and then £2.99
Thanks, but that is not what i mean. What i am talking about are custom applications made by htc that only appear on their custom builds, not in the market. I wanted to see if there was a way of obtaining them similar to the way of obtaining htc's custom keyboard.

You could download a Roger's ROM from the dream forum and extract the .apks from there.
@thefoss
could you explain how that is done; just from the point where you extract the rogers rom.
Well I tried installing the HTC Contacts and Dialer APK from the hero build but no success says it will NOT install on This Phone. Even tried the Smart Dialer from the Market and does the same thing.
OH by the way I tried to install them on my Mytouch 3G with no success Someone help us out on this Plz

Your def not moving over htc dialer and contacts to mytouch with out root. Its not just not happening right now. And superdial from the market installs just fine
That app is SLOW :/
If you really want all HTC stuff simply install HTC image...
The problem is that you'll need to install lot of HTC stuff with that dialer...
The idea is cool but... slow :/
HERO applications will NOT work on NON-HERO ROM's.
The HTC Smart Dialer and Contacts is NOT A HERO APPLICATION

Go here and download the Rogers-Wiped Nandroid image. When you unzip that package there will be a collection of .img files. Go here and download Unyaffs (I have only used it on Ubuntu and I have no idea how it will work on Windows) and put it in your android-sdk/tools directory (assuming this has been added to your PATH). Make a directory called system and cd into it. Use unyaffs to extract the system.img file that you downloaded
Code:
unyaffs system.img
In that system folder there should be a bunch of folders and a few files. Look in the app folder. You will see the .apk files there.
Hope this has helped a bit!
i guess the mytouch has to be rooted for this to work on it. they wont install via appmanager, but why does htc_ime.apk work and these wont. im guessing because they are system files. yeah im a noob
Make sure you have the install from "Unknown Sources" checked... Then try again. It is in the APP manager under settings.
ive rooted my mytouch, and the apk's wont install on cyanogen 32B 3.9.9.1
i would really like to know about this as well. my mytouch doesnt have a rooted rom on it but i do have superuser permissions. can i push it using adb? i wouldnt know what commands to use.
I wanted to bring back this thread because I have the same question as the above 2 posters.
Does anyone know why the apk installer wont install the contacts apk (my phone is rooted, and I pulled the apk from a rom that I've used on this phone)?
those HTC utilities are not open source, hence they are not included in any of the cyanogen mods. the HTC framework that is needed for them to work is simply not present.
your only option is to get a rom for the rogers/tim etc which does include them..
Extracted htc_contacts.apk
I've extracted the file htc_contacts.apk and I've opened with Archive manager under Ubuntu.
I've found many many XML files, some certs... I think the installer check the phone model and then says You cannot install the apk. But if the apk is the only source for installatione, we could find the controls in it.
Am I wrong?

Using EVO keyboard with arrows on NON-EVO builds

Im sorry if this is the wrong section for this, I figured this would be the best spot.
The reason im posting this is because a lot of people were asking how to use the EVO keyboard (with arrows) on NON-Evo sense builds. First off, as far as I have tried, the build does have to be a sense build. I have tested this on just about every sense build for the HD2.
I've attached the renamed apk that ive been using. Hopefully it will work since I sent it straight from my phone. If you use it, skip #1.
1.) Rename the HTC_IME.apk to newHTC_IME.apk
2.)Go into the folder where the newHTC_IME.apk is (if you download it from your phone then it will be in the "download" folder) and using "Root Explorer" or another root file explorer long press the apk and select copy.
3.)Go to your system>>app folder and paste the newHTC_IME.apk. Since its not the same name as the original it will not ask you if you want to over ride the original. But it will still be there if you choose you do not want the EVO keyboard later on.
4.) You WILL have to reboot for the changes to take affect, if you do not you will not have a keyboard till you do reboot.
I hope I didnt make this complicated lol, and yes i know....some of you know how to do this. I did it for the ones who did not.
Works perfectly with desire sense mdeejay build. Thanks.

the method you're doing won't work.. follow the OP's instruction on how to do it, or install droid explorer and then copy/paste the newHTC_IME.apk file to system/app folder.
BE VERY WARY ABOUT THIS!!!
I'm going to have to start from scratch as doing this has lost my keyboard, permanently.
I keep getting a "Sorry" message saying that "The application Touch Input has stopped unexpectedly" and my keyboard is unavailable.
This is after installing this new keyboard, as well as after restoring the original one. It's basically just screwed my keyboard so I'm going to have to rebuild my instance of Android from scratch.

I've installed "Root Explorer" and I also cannot, it tells me that there's no space to copy the file... even i use mount r/w
i'v also tried to access superuser but i dont know how it works... superuser2.3.6 app screen shows me there's no apps, log shows me there's no log, and i don't know how can i give root privilegies to "root explorer"
thnx!

Yes, I just did it. Pushed with adb. works fine.

pretty impressive
edit1: i thought i read somewhere that it was multi touch, but this doesnt seem to be
edit2: auto correction seems to have little or no words to correct to.
maybe it would function better with the 2.3 build

I have never tried adb and wouldn't know what to do. Is there another way to get it working. Tried installing normally, using Root Explorer and placing in system/app but I get force closes with these methods.
Edit: So I researched and it seems as though the adb method is pretty much the same as using root explorer (correct me if I'm wrong) and yet I still get force closes. FYI I did try with adb and still no luck...

this version http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...bread-2-3-keyboard-w-working-predictions.html has supposedly fixed the auto correction/word prediction.
I got it to work with predictions. Used adb push with the two files in "system" in the ZIP. Very fast and predictive!
Still can't seem to get it to stop force closing. Perhaps it's the build I'm using, who knows.

I pushed the two files (/system/app/LatinIME.apk & /system/lib/libjni_latinime.so) to the relevant folder.
(the commands I used were "adb push LatinIME.apk /system/app/LatinIME.apk" and "adb push libjni_latinime.so /system/lib/libjni_latinime.so")
But I get FORCE CLOSE whenever the keyboard is called... do I miss something?
p/s: I didn't push any of the META-INF files.

how you drag and drop? I can't view my Desktop in Droid Explorer, so how you drag your file into the /system?

Well, almost drag and drop (sorry, I deleted that bit from my comment before posting since I don't really use drag-and-drop, the keyboard is just faster). You have to use Ctrl+C (or right click -> copy if you fancy) from explorer/desktop/where-ever then right click -> paste in droid explorer at the appropriate location.
You'll get a dialog popping up showing you the copy progress (it's pretty quick).

What you could do is create a root/system/app folder in the root folder of your android build on your sd card, place the latinime.apk in that folder, restart and the file should be placed in the system/app folder on your phone. Or you could use ES Explorer and place the latinime.apk in the system/app folder on your phone.

just got an HD2 today so i knew nothing about any of this ( the flashing on top of windows or whatever, I'm pretty experienced in flashin roms for other android phones)....anyways the guy who recommended using Droid Explorer was spot on, it was easy. I don't know why the other dude can't get into system/app :/, but I hate screwing with ADB so that program is sweet! reps!

I'm currently using the HD build as well, and I noticed that I couldn't use the droid multi touch keyboard which is a real bummer cuz I really liked that one. It worked on Motoman's Black and Blue build.
Anyways, I'll try this and see what happens.
edit: nope, doesn't work. It seems that the DesireHD does not have the stock android keyboard, as I didn't have to overwrite any files. Does this make any sense? I really want a keyboard without arrows and that does not have haptic feedback. The newest version of better keyboard removed the option to 1) go without keypad sounds and 2) go without haptic feedback. Really don't feel like paying for another keyboard though, as it just seems silly.

connect your phone vua usb to your pc. copy LatinIME.apk & libjni_latinime.so from the zip. copy them to the same folder where 'adb.exe' is (android sdk). Open a command prompt (cmd.exe from the start menu > search bar). cd to your android sdk folder, where you put the apk & so files. type the following...
adb push Latinime.apk /system/app
adb push libjni_latinime.so /system/lib/
long press in a text field > select input type > pick android keyboard.

As the post suggests, put your Swype files in the same folder as ADB and you should be fine. Note that you will have to go to Settings > Language & keyboard, and manually enable Swype since it's disabled by default.

I do believe you can use AndroidMate from the market.
ok, so apparently I don't know what I'm doing lol.
Sorry if this appears totally n00bish but thats what I am.
If I extract the .apk and the libswypecore.so from another Rom and place them into their respective folders on the Rom I'd like to use, (ex. placing swype.apk into the "app" folder on cm7) and then flash the Rom and start from scratch, shouldn't that work?
I actually tried it and it didn't. Am i missing something? I was hoping the answer was that obvious but it failed. Swype shows up but i get "swype package you installed is configured for another device" message and it continues to only function as a regular keyboard.
I'd prefer to avoid going through the CMD prompt on my computer again because without super detailed instructions, I really don't know how to go about doing it. So if anyone, anywhere can help me out it would be super appreciated. I checked the forums and I keep getting lost in the words.
(perhaps shouldn't have rooted my phone if I can't make it that far huh? but we all have to start somewhere I suppose)
Forgive me for making this so long winded but the more details i give up front the less back and forth messages that wing clog up forums.

MIUI MMS Size Fix - 1.12.9, 1.12.16 (MMS Size Changed), 2.3.4a

So, i got fed up with dealing with thumbnail MMS for TMOUS while using MIUI, and i dont believe using a different txt messaging app is a viable solution, thus, i took matters into my own hands and edited the UA in the messaging app to NexusOne.
!!!NEW CHANGES!!!
This uses the N95 UA and Uaprof for carrier compatibility reasons.
The MMS Size has been changed to 120000 per request from relldroid
I tested this on my own phone without any issues.
Based off of 1.12.16, 1.12.9 and the latest stable 2.3.4a
Simply boot into CWRecovery and flash like any other update
Let me know of any issues, and i'll try to help as much as possible
Thank you.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download file for your chosen build
2) Save it to your SDCARD (root dir is the easiest)
3) Boot into CWM Recovery
4) Select "load zip from SDCARD"
5) Select zip file on SDCARD
6) Reboot
-6a) It can be considered safe measure to wipe the cache and Dalvik cache prior to rebooting. No harm no foul
--Alternatively, if you use Rom Manager, you can use that as well. That program works directly with CWM Recovery.
How-To for yourselves
Hard Method;
Req - SystemUI.apk, Framework.apk, MMS.apk (all from the same build, no mismatching) APKManager (google is your friend )

7, decompile mms.apk
8, within the \projects\ folder, there will be a folder labeled MMS, locate the xml file mms_config
9, edit the string userAgent -> NexusOne (other useagents can also work, NexusOne is a known working one for HD2 + TMOBILE)
10, once edited, compile, hit yes, then yes
11, follow the one screen instructions (it's straight forward)
12, rename the newly created apk unsignedMMS.apk (located in \place-apk-here-for-modding) to MMS.apk

thanks, trying this now... will report results shortly. really hope i can get this working, blurry mms is the only thing thats been keeping me from running miui. btw what miui build are you using?
EDIT: i tried this on NDT ginger miui 8.0 build, no luck. it says "application not installed" and there is no icon for messaging.

Im using JW MIUI 1.4.29 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050645
How i went about it is that i put the mms.apk in the root of my sd card using ES File Explorer (which supports system rw mounting) then copied the file into \system\app\, overwriting the original.
If you try to install it as a normal apk, it will reject it, since it's a system app

That is one way to resolve the issue, tho thats the gingerbread default mms apk, not the miui verson.
i've replaced the apk in the zip with the one that i'm using for messaging so it should work with miui builds.
...i wish i knew how to make flashable packages

i know a few have the 1024 size fix, ive tried frankinstine and cmyxlgo stock desire that both have it but it didnt make a difference for me, still blurry. until now the only thing thats worked is cm7 builds because of the custom user-agent option

MIUI is a custom android suit, like how sense is for android. It originally started out as a knock off from the iPhone but evolved into something more unique. Go check it out @ www.miuiandroid.com, they update the rom once a week, every friday
Still a novice here....
How do you flash the size fix with the zip file?
Do I just unzip the file using root explorer?q
Force close
I tried everything even pushed through adb and still not working. :l
