[Q] $30 or $25 unlimited android data plan? - Vibrant General

I've seen a lot of people posting about their $25 unlimited data plan, but all I've been seeing on the Tmoble site for the past 2 years are $30 unlimited data plans. $5 extra might seem insignificant to some, but I'm just curious if some regions have different pricing for unlimited smartphone data or if all $25 plans are grandfathered.
Does anyone happen to have a non-grandfathered $25 unlimited smartphone data plan? and if so which region do you live in?
btw I live in southern California (L.A.) and only the $30 option was available to me (just unlimited web and No texting included)

I talked to retentions when I got my Vibrant and they offered a discount on the Android data plan from $30/mo. to $25/mo.

I have a two-phone family plan with TMo, and I was offered (without asking) an unlimited data plan for $25 per phone, which I have on just one of the phones since the other isn't a smartphone. I also chose to go off contract: I was about 18 months into a 2-year contract and they let me out of it for $30 per phone. This reduced my monthly phone plan by $20 per month, so my net is a $5 per month increase for unlimited data and no contract. The downside is no subsidized phones, but I was ok with that. I've been a TMo customer for about 7 years, and I don't know if that factored in to anything.

It's a $20 plan. Talk to someone in the contracts dept, as I did. Yes I'm a longtime customer, but they might give it to ya if you act nice.

Mine is a $25 add-on, "Unlimited Android Data", select after picking a non-data plan. I got it from the website about 2 months ago, and it was listed as a "Required Service" for my phone. Customer for 7 years or so, but since I didn't talk to CS/Retention, I don't think that factored in.

Im paying $20 for the Android plan. You need to talk to retention/customer loyalty department to get it. Some people may only be able to get $25... it really depends on the rep you get and how long you have been with Tmo.

$20 Android loyalty data plan here.
Call T-Mobile Toll Free, hit 0 and say you want to cancel account.
That will get you to the retentions department. They are the ones authorized to give out special loyalty plans like that.

as others said. talk to retentions. if you have been w tmobile for a while you have a better chance.
I have $25 data plan which includes 400 texts
My wife had $35 data plan which includes unlimited texts

Hmm.. I barely renewed my 2-year contract this past summer to get new phones. Would they only help you change to the $20 loyalty plan after your contract expires because they know you'll have to pay the etf if you cancel now?
I am a loyalty customer btw.

Were you still on contract?

Ok, guys, I owe you one. Talked with TMo Customer Service and the guy said he'd see what he could do. Came back to the phone and said, "Sorry, no better deal I'm able to offer, but I'll send you over to the Customer Loyalty folks." Thirty seconds later I was on the $20 plan.

Yes! It worked for me too; now i have the $20 data for both android phones on the account. But I was required to switch to a "loyalty plan", which is 3000 minutes + unlimited text for $110/mo, while i had the 1500 minute (no text) plan for $80.
So i saved $20 on smartphone web and paying $30 more for double the minutes + text.
In the end, I'm paying $10 extra on the bill...
Did any else have to switch to a 3000 minute loyalty plan in order to apply loyalty web on a family plan?

I should've talked to retentions directly. I called 611 and the rep talked to retentions dept for me and then gave me that as my only offer.
The plan I had to change to has the same name as the regular plan, just $10 cheaper: Even More™ for Families 3000 Talk + Unlimited Text...
I'll try and see if they will change me onto a "preferred plan".

Update:
Called retentions and the rep said: "That's the only promotional plan being offered as of right now in my area. The most recent changes to the promotional plans took effect 11/15"

edit....plus $6 for the insurance on my G1
Individual Basic ($29.99) + G1 Data with 400 sms ($24.99) - 15 percent freelancers union discount + taxes and fees = about $55/mth
I'm obviously not on T-Mo, but my monthly bill is 22 bucks which includes unlimited data (though only 20 GB of HSDPA data) and 100 minutes/100 texts. I never use more than 100 minutes in a month though, usually not even a third of that.
scrub scrub
I spend like $81 USD I think? I have the lowest minute plan, 300 or w/e with the data plan, plus insurance on my g1.
$87/mo

If you guys pay more than $50 for just your voice plan then call Tmo. $49.00 unlimited nationwide voice for customers that have 22 months of history with them. I just saved myself $40 or so dollars. No contract extension.
My bill with tax for unlimited nationwide calling, unltd txts, data, is $94 and some change.
**edit - just dial 611 and ask for this - they'll tell you about it.

lol...me the wife and kids are on a grandfathered plan since 2006
49.99 1000 anytime minutes...free mobile to mobile (helps that both our families and most of our friends have t-mobile as well) between 4 phones we usually use about 400-450 minutes a month.
14.99 unlimited text messaging (covers all our phones on the account)
24.99 data plan for my G1
19.99 blackberry plan for my wifes curve
10.00 x 2 for each of our daughters additional lines
I called them just yesterday to see if they are doing anything special like the $50.00 unlimited plan, but for families...sadly they dont. however, she said that because we have been with them for just shy of 10 years...she was able to discount my unlimited text package to 4.99 a month and gave me the option of another upgrade on my account (I just used my upgrade in October to buy my G1).
I love tmobile customer service

If I remember correctly the loyalty family plan is supposed to be out by now and it is a little more expensive thou. Something like 100 for the first two phones and 35 for each additional.
EDIT: Check out this screen of what I see when I log in... that is 50 a month plus 40 for each additional. and 5 for messaging

Your average Tmobile Bill (USA)

How much do you guys pay for your tmobile bill? I have the unlimited everything for my G1 for 35 and my Favs for 39.99, i pay 90 dollars a month. Anyway I can get it cheaper? Yes, I tried the freelancer website discount and they said it only applys to new accounts. Thanks
i have the same thing on flexpay. and tmobile doesnt allow discounts with flexpay.
$69 - family plan 1000 minutes
$20 - family text
$25 - g1 plan
$20 - 2 additional lines
I paid $138.74 last month. (this was with 1 additional line, just added another)
Soon to be paying for another contract for another phone since Family plan only allows for 5 phones at the max. There's 6 in the family. Sigh.
Oh how it is to be 20 years old and pay for the phone bills, electric bills, gas, and water.
mine is $87.16/mo (after my 10% discount through my employer)
$49.99 for 1500 mins
$35 g1 plan
I went into the t-mobile store with a crowbar and demanded my service for free. I told them I would start hitting people in the junk if they didn't comply. They complied.
I pay $75 per month
$50 for unlimited minutes(unlimited loyalty plan)
$25 for G1 data plan w/ 400 texts(I don't text that much that I'd need unlimited)
$80 Family time 700min w/ myfavs
$30 3 additional lines
$10 Family unlimited text
$10 T-mo to T-mo Calling
$75 3 G1 plans

Expensive
That sounds quite expensive..
I'm sory to break into your USA topic, but i think that its quite a lot you are paying right now.
Due to my earlier years with t mobile Igot my G1 for free in combination with a single year contract:
200 minutes
unlimited text
unlimited internet
40 Euro's a month. That's about 54 USD.
How come it is that expensive over there, when other things are really [in comparison]?

You also have to remember that Deustche Telekom is one of the largest carriers in Europe and T-Mobile USA is the smallest of the carriers here.
You think this is expensive, you should see the other Providers (Verizon, Sprint[aside from the unlimited everything Plan] and At&t) T-Mobile has by far the best rates in the USA. The most expensive data plan for a PHONE is only $34.99, which is really only 19.99 for the internet because it is a bundle of Unlimited SMS/MMS at $14.99 and the internet at $19.99. At&t Data plans can up to $60 for PHONES not just there data stick/card. Also in general the rates plans are about $10 to $20 cheaper then the other providers. When I was with verizon for a 2 line 700 minute plan i was paying when it was all said and done $170 a month and i didn't even have the internet on either of my lines. It was ridiculous! It is a pretty good deal for us here in the States.
My Favs 600-49.99
Unlimited Data-35.00
Mobile to Mobile 6.99
Control Charge-5.99
Insurance-3.99
All about $114 after taxes for a single line
i got unlimited minutest with my fav 49.99
unlimited text message not picture for 9.99
g1 unlimited with 400 message 25.99
and 12 discount
after taxes $84
Loyalty Unlimited: 89.99
Extra Line of Unlimited: 39.99
Unlimited Family Text: 9.99
3 G1 Plans(Yes three): 24.99 x 3 = 74.97
----------------------------------------
Total: 214.94 - %10 Discount from Freelancers Union
----------------------------------------
Total: $193.45 or $64.48 per phone unlimited everything

Also, mine is for two phone lines.
I have the cheapest plan and it suits me great! One of the main reasons I could afford to switch to T-Mobile.
$30 voice plan (300 minutes; I don't call that often)
$25 data plan (400 messages, unlimited data)
$55/mo total before all the fees.
T-Mobile is definitely cheaper than all the other carriers available (at least Sprint and AT&T).
Unlimited EVERYTHING, one line: $105

Great news for Loyal T-Mobile customers - Unlimited DATA PLAN for $20 a month

Just got off chat with t-mo. Below is part of the transcript. Important lines are in bold.
kcaj32: I have one more question about that account
kcaj32: the new line I added is an HD2
tmo CS: I can see that you are typing. I just want to let you know I am still here.
kcaj32: a good friend of mine also has the HD2 and he told me that you guys have a new unlimited data plan for $20 a month for that phone instead of the $30 I had to sign up for. He told me that he already switched to the $20 unlimited data for smartphones plan. Can you add that to my new line instead of the $30 plan?
kcaj32: The line I'm talking about is 916-xxx-xxxx
tmo CS: I will check to see if that feature is available for your account. It may take me a few moments.
kcaj32: ok
tmo CS: That feature is available for that line. I have changed that over for you.
kcaj32: ok thats great. I just got an sms too saying that a web plan was changed.
kcaj32: So is this available for everyone? or just some selected people?
tmo CS: It is only available to long time loyal customers.
kcaj32: ok
Got the news from : http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/HTC-HD2/New-20-Preferred-Smartphone-Unlimited-Web-for-HD2/td-p/360447
I logged into my primary account (android line) and I have the @20 a month option there too.
I havea grandfathered Family plan:
700 min
Unlimited Nights & Weekend
MyFavs on all lines (works great with Google Voice)
and now $20 data on all lines
This is the same plan as the $34.99 plan minus the $14.99 unlimited message option so if you had text before switching and are still using text, expect a huge bill at the end of the month.
The $30 plan does not include messaging at all. the plan with unlimited messaging is $35 a month. I have an older plan on my android with unlimited web and 400 messages for $25. And the messaging works for me on my Google Voice account.

When I signed up for the new line I was offered
$35 for unlimited messaging and data
OR
$30 for unlimited data only
But I guess it you want unlimited messaging as well, you should be able to add it to the $20 account for another $10. That is still $5 less than new customers.
This would be good for me. Been with T-mo for ~7 years and I have the unlimited family loyalty plan (offered before the all-unlimited plans were available) with the $20 addition for unlimited texts. If I can cut my HD2 bill from $25 to $20, I'll take it.
Oh, and, has anybody noticed there's a $5 charge for some sort of device insurance? I've yet to call T-mo and ask about it, but I tried to remove it myself from my plan and I can't. Both of those would be $10 less a month, which, out of my $250~ a month bill, is kind of welcome.

Device insurance is just that. It insures you for any lost or broken device, but I think there is a deductible involved in getting a replacement.
The new insurance rate for HD2 is $7 a mo... if you have it for $5, I'd say keep it (only if you plan on using it in the future)
And $250 a month? how many lines is that? and is it unlimited talk on all lines?
If I'm reading this right, the $30.00 Data Plan includes Web access and personal e-Mail (POP3 or IMAP). The $20.00 Data Plan is only Web access, no personal e-Mail. Niether plan has anything to do with text messages (SMS) or picture messages (MMS). Those are under some other add on plan. I got grandfathered with unlimited text messages for families for $9.99 and can see no reason to change it.
I just tested the $20 plan with a POP3 account and it worked just fine. Its just a discounted plan they are offering to their old customers.

Older customers being the key word here. I had an account with TMO for close to 5 years and now these bozos cannot even find it to allow me to SIM unlock my device...
I hate tmous more and even more every day...
I went to MyTmobile.com, signed in, clicked the manage my plan, shared services, Line specific services. The "preferred" web option was available on my primary smart phone line. I selected it and submitted, then got confirmation. I went back and repeated for my secondary smart phone line, then for my 1st family add-a-line dumb phone line. Total knocked off my bill... $25 a month (two smart phones @ $10 savings each, and one "phone first" @ $5 savings.)
Unlimited Text messaging is included in my family plan.
I hope any trade off for the "preferred" web plan is worth the money. Tmobile USA's normal "Unlimited" is 5Gb a month at full speed, then throttled down above that (no extra fees for being excessive users.) I hope preferred "unlimited" still is.
With the phone first plans, a semi-smart phone as an add-a-line with unlimited web comes out to just $10 extra a month ($5 for add-a-line, $5 for unlimited web). Tmobile considers two semi "internet capable" proprietary OS touchscreen phones as "phone first"... Samsung Highlight and Tmo Tap. Its a shame neither can be ROM flashed to a better OS.
The also have the Nokia Nuron with Symbian with a $10 data plan. Unfortunately the Nuron does not have Wifi. and has a very small screen. I looked at it in costco and it seemed pretty small although it was 3.2". Was looking for my Wife.

Been with TMo for years (I think since they existed.....8-9 years), and I checked and I have that option as well. Currently I have the Unlimited Data + Texts for $35.
I'm thinking of switching to the $20 Preferred Data Plan and the $10 1000 texts for a total of $30 ($5 Savings).
Are we sure that there is no difference between the data plans?
"Preferred Smartphone Unlimited Web Only
Smartphone Unlimited Web Only"
"T-Mobile Smartphone Unlimited Web
For people who love having the Web and e-mail at their fingertips. Includes unlimited Web access and unlimited personal e-mail."
Always looking for some monthly savings
nothing beats the 5.99 unlimited Tzones..
Just got off the phone with a CC rep and as most here have stated it is the same as the $25 web plan just cheaper
And for the Nokia Nuron....it is one of a couple of phones that get the $10 plans for what ever reason.....maybe because the download speeds are super slow My GF had one and the speeds on it sucked and the text messaging was pretty buggy....she ended up returning it.
Thanks for the heads up. I can also confirm that the CC rep told me there are no differences in speeds.
Just switched to the $20 Preferred Unlimited Data and $5 for 300 Texts (is it me or was there a 500 texts for $5......). Saves $10 a month, hopefully I won't go over the 300 texts.....500 would be perfect.

4 lines. the family plan is 90,unlimited
talk only on 2 lines, each additional line is 40, 20 for unlimited text on all lines. 20 unlimited web on my line and 30 unlimited blackberry web on another. plus the 5 insurance. 245.
I'm thinking of switching to the even more plus, i lose subsidy for upgrades, but it's cheaper, 140 2 lined unlimited text and web and calls, plus 30 for two more lined unlimited calls and text. 200, i do mind losing the subsidies, so maybe I'll get new phones subsidized and then switch (you're still bound by the contract, but It's less month to month)
oh and i got offered the 20 plan online, turns out i had android web and it was incompatible, so i was forced to chose the cheaper plan, no complaints, i hope it fixes the slow connection i have though (100 kbps down on 3g)
Wonder if it is really for long term customers or Tmo is just hooking up us HD2 owners

Didn't work for me.. The rep said down at the bottom, that the phone number that is being offered the promo is listed but its blank in the link. Apparently VZW is locking down on who they are offering this to.
It is only available for people who aren't under contract with Verizon at this time. I just spoke to a CSR rep and tried to get him to extend my contract under the terms in the link but since I am still under contract with Verizon for 2 years they wont offer it to me. Worth a shot though, bummer.
Not so much
Sounds good, and saving money is saving money, but this would be somewhere around $5.00 discount for those of us on the $39.99 450 minute plan, 29.99 data plan, and $5.00 (that's the saving part) texting plan. Wouldn't lose sleep over the link not working.
This worked for me a few days ago and I just opened my account in the summer on contract. Had to call the 877 number for sure though because regular customer service kept giving me the runaround.
With work discount, comes to $59.49 a month before taxes.
I'm all over this. $55 month with my work discount.

Here's what the deal really is:
It's the exact same prices as normal Talk and Text plans, either single line or family plan (700 minute family plan isn't offered- have to get at least 1400), except every line has to get the $30 unlimited data plan, but then each line automatically gets a $20 bill credit per month, leaving you paying $10 for unlimited data per line. It only saves you money if you have a better-than 1:3 ratio of smartphones:total lines on your account. Example: 1 single line that has a smartphone is a 1:1 ratio so they save money. 1 smartphone on a 2-line family plan is a 1:2 ratio so they save money. 1 smartphone on a 3-line family plan breaks even, etc.
It's only supposed to be given to customers who got the email about it- they can look up all promotional material that's been sent to you and verify that you received it so this is definitely YMMV. There's a pretty nice thread going on over at SlickDeals that I've been posting a lot in- lots of success stories and ways to help you get it, etc.- check it out..

It is only available for people who aren't under contract with Verizon at this time. I just spoke to a CSR rep and tried to get him to extend my contract under the terms in the link but since I am still under contract with Verizon for 2 years they wont offer it to me. Worth a shot though, bummer.

Nope, anyone can get it, even ones who didn't get the promotional email. But yes your chances are a lot better if you're out of contract, or soon will be..
I just signed my new contract this march. Called last week on this and they hooked me up with the family line. Added the unlimited text and saved $30 a month so worked for me.
Also the 1400 family plan still has friends and family...
Sent from my Virtuous Incredible
I need to do the math but sure looks like this would save me money. I have the 1400 minute plan. 2 Incredibles with unlimited data and two regular family share lines. $5.00 unlimited text. 17% corporate discount.
I'm going to call and let them do that math. I have an NE2 due. Maybe I'll try and leverage that.

The math would be:
$110 primary line - $18.70 discount = $91.30
$10 data plan
-----------------------------
$101.30
$10 2nd line
$10 data plan
-----------------------------
$121.30
$10 3rd line
$10 data plan
------------------------------
$141.30
$10 4th line
$10 data plan
------------------------------
$161.30 plus tax and extras for 4 lines
Not sure what you mean by $5 unlimited text so I can't tell you what you're paying now, so you may or may not be saving money depending on what texting package(s) you have..

Not true.
I'm under contract and got the deal. I also wasn't send the ad... but I snaked my way in without much effort.
It's a great deal and something that should continue. A single line shouldn't cost $100+ for a smartphone. That is too much... this is perfect.
Cricket
For $45 a month at Cricket you can have all this with no contract. Just look for the Cricket ROM in the Incredible forum and it has everything you need to make it work with Cricket. It worked for me and I just started my service on Friday I called and told the that I saw the add and was wondering if I could get it and that I just started my service on Friday and they said that I could and they said as long as I kept the same plan I would get the discount till the promotion ran out in 2035
I called the 877 number, tried to get the deal today and was told that it was only for those that received the email.
I signed my first contract with verizon back in august. Got my plan changed to this in under 5 minutes. I did go with the 1400 plan, and had to pay an extra 20 for a third line. But I still saved $30 a month and added data to my third line.
I did not recieve the promo email either...
Just got the deal. I did not receive the email.

Call again. I called this morning and the first guy told me I wasn't eligible. I called 5 minutes later and got some girl, and it wasn't hard to convince her to let me in on the deal.
I have a two lines both with DINC's, with my 20% work discount I am only paying $118 before taxes. That's less than $60 per phone!! Heck yeah...
FWIW, I am still 17 months away from the end of my contract and I did NOT recieve the email. I called and it was without a doubt the SMOOTHEST FASTEST interaction I've EVER had with VZW CS. To put that in perspective, my dogs have fled the room when I've called them in the past. 10 minutes later I logged on and all changes were shown.
So ... I've been with VZW for years, though I doubt I'm special in that regard, and I got this deal no fuss no muss. Perhaps I was sent the offer and it hit my spam box, but no mention about the email was made by me or the rep.
Everyone should try, and then maybe try twice.
Just tried for a second time and was again denied...
I called the day the flyer was first posted on BGR. I got the deal right away by calling the phone number. Before, I was paying 190 for 3 lines, two with data, all unlimited messaging. Now, I am paying 160 for all three lines with unlimited data and texting. This is really $60 in savings, as we would have been charged $30 bucks more a month to add data to the third line. This was a great deal.

[Q] T-Mobile, Cancellation of flexpay, Confused to no end :(

I'm confused to no end...
I got a message from t-mobile, saying that my flexpay with 500 minutes and 5GB data plan, for which I pay $60 in total, will expire (actual message below). I have an unlocked Nexus One (and a single line) that I don't want to change; I use like 80-100 minutes, 2-3 text messages, and about 5GB of data with it in a month...
Can someone help me?
I don't understand whether I can stay with Flexpay or whether it will actually expire for good (and take the $50 I have $50 my flexaccount too --they're used when you overuse minutes).
Customer reps on 611 refuse to send me any documentation, don't tell me whether my plan will actually get cancelled or not, and pretty much act like they don't know anything and are reading from a script written for existing flexpay customers. (I'll be going to a store, but I don't trust them either. Me being a foreigner doesn't help...)
I'm looking at the options they provide (their plans online), and if I keep my 5GB data plan, everything that they have is more expensive... As in: their $50 "postpaid" plan includes 100MB or so data before getting throttled...
Could anyone suggest what I should do to keep a plan that costs $60 or less without sacrificing my $50 on that stupid flexaccount[1]?
[1] The $50 is leftover from having a long-distance (as in cross-pacific) relationship... Don't do it
[Message from t-mobile:
Response requested: your Flexpay rate plan will expire. Call 611 to update your account & get 1200 bonus minutes. Call 611 for details.]
Help? Please?
Thanks
Same problem - Cancellation of T-mobile Flexpay plan
Even I got a call few days ago and recently got a SMS stating that Flexpay plan will expire. Not sure if I can still continue? I dont want to be bound by 24 month contract. Either I might switch to pay as you go plan or switch to another provider.
Let me know if there any updates or work around here!!
Thanks!
AFAIK all flexpay plans WILL expire and you have some options....
1) Enter into a contract and go with the VALUE plans (cheaper monthly charges, NO SUBSIDIZED DEVICES)
2) Enter into a contract and get a regular postpaid plan (higher monthly charges, DEVICES AT SUBSIDIZED PRICES)
3) Pay as you go prepaid plans including a monthly option (I think...kinda like flex-pay)
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/monthly-4g-plans
I just got on a contract for a Value plan with two lines and it's quite possibly the most awesome thing ever.
I get:
1000 shared minutes
unlimited SMS
2GB of data per line
... for $95 + tax/fees/etc, per month. For two lines.
I had to buy the phones outright, sure, but the overall savings is significantly greater than had I gone on a "standard" contract with the device subsidy. Two lines on a standard contract, same 1000 shared minutes and SMS and data, would have cost $35 more per month (+ tax/fees/etc).
Before I was on an individual Even More Plus plan (which has been phased out, just like Flexpay) and paid $70 + tax every month, and my partner was on a Flexpay plan and paid $75 + tax every month. Of course, those plans had 5GB data, but we weren't actually using the 5GB--the 2GB option hadn't been created yet, and even when it was first formed, it wasn't any cheaper.
Now, seriously, we're getting cell service almost as cheap as a regional carrier with better devices and better service.
