[Q] HTC News? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier, I restored from a nandroid backup. Everything ran fine (except the fact that it deleted alot of my photos) but the news app didn't update. Everytime I clicked the update button on the widget or app, it would just come saying the time I last updated it about 14 hours ago. It also doesn't allow me to unsubscribe feeds... How do I fix this??

After normal reboot I found myself back to factory settings

When I rebooted my phone this morning, it was essentially back to factory settings. The start-up wizard came up. All my shortcuts and widgets were back to the default and none of my apps were working.
Signing in to my google account seemed to restore most stuff. And the market still had a list of all the apps I'd installed, even if they were no longer installed. I had to uninstall and reinstall everything. Had to reset up the email app, twitter, facebook etc. SD card contents were still there.
Just to be clear, the apps weren't actually installed, they just appeared to be in the market.
This was just turning my phone on in the morning - I see no point in having it switched on all night!
Any idea what happened or why or whether it's likely to happen again??
I am sure some would like to help, however, your post is lacking many critical details:
1. Are you rooted?
2. What ROM are you on?
3. Did you install anything new or update anything yesterday?
Details, we're not magicians (ok, maybe some of the Dev's here are)...
sorry, bit of a noob!
i am not rooted, i have a stock nexus one running 2.1.1
last new thing i installed was a few days ago - a geocaching app. had normal behaviour with that installed for those few days. also have installed other updates for various apps.

No biggie, Look around at people's sigs and see how they are set up, gives much information without having to post it all the time.
As for the issue, not sure, never had this issue nor have I heard of it.

[Q] Apinap error

I have a rooted Acer Iconia A500. Working pretty well. However, starting this morning I am getting an error whenever I click on the content folders, the message is "The application ApinAp (process com.acer.app) has stopped unexpectedly" and I have to force close. I was able to access it yesterday. In manage applications, the cache for this app is empty, and I tried clearing the data twice and rebooting the tablet. I suppose that I can unroot, and do a factory restore, and re install my apps (I did a full Titanium backup, but unfortunately only after this error started), but does anyone have a simpler suggestion to fix this?
Bill
So no one has suggestions? Does anyone least have a copy of a working version of the app so I could uninstall and reinstall it?
Hmmm...okay no replies here, so I restored re-rooted, and Apinap was working again. Then I restored all my user apps from Titanium backup, and it was not working again. So I knew it was an app, not the rooting that caused the problem. So I batch uninstalled all my user apps, and sure enough it was working again. Then I reinstalled the apps one by one, being very conservative about which ones I pulled data from, and checked the Apinap program after every restore. Well now I have just about every app restored, and it is still working. So I am still not quite sure what the problem was....
I have the same issue launching hero of sparta from the games app that came with the iconia. I did buy hero of sparta direct from gameloft.

Same issue here. ..with Multimedia app and social app
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
Just started happening to me, seems that Juice Defender is the culprit, uninstalled and all working again, reinstalled and apinap forece close so Juice defender removed until an update.
sorry guys for interruption , but i can i ask a question? why do u need this "appinapp" app, is it difficult to just launch needed app without it? ive deleted it soon as ive bought a tablet
Same here. the culprit was juice defender. uninstalled and everything went back to normal.
First post here!
I got my Iconia yesterday. I rooted, I installed Titanium and copied the backup folder from my phone. I installed most apps (apart from some phone specific ones) with their data (hoping to keep things like angry birds scores ) and got the same Apinap error. I removed a few apps but still no improvement. And I haven't installed juice defender or something like that.

a) It looks cool and it's a nice option to have
b) If you delete it, you won't be able to update, apparently.
Ditto. Juice Defender did it to me as well! Uninstalled and everything is back to normal. Funny that it decided to take a dump all of a sudden. I've been using JD since I purchased my A500 a couple weeks ago.

[HELP] Camera not installed on KitKat!!!

Hello,
I'm having a major problem when loading the camera on the main user. It simply crashes...
Let me just explain better the problem and the background situation.
My wife has a N7 2013 that I offered her on her birthday. She is the main user. I also use her nexus so I'm the secondary user.
When I try to launch camera on her user, it simply crashes... Needless to say that I already clean app's data and so on...
When kitkat was released, I grab some of the the apk of several applications that were leaked, hangouts, keyboard, camera/gallery, etc... and upgrade those apps over my user account... I tried them all and all run fine on my user... as I knew that if I installed an app over my user account, that app instantanely is updated (if installed) on the main user account. So I never tested all those apps upgrades...
After that, Kitkat came to N7 and I sideloaded it. A few days ago it updated to the last version via OTA.
Yesterday I was testing something over my wife's user and by accidentally I found out the Camera just wont work!!! It crashes immediately when launched. Going to the Application Manager, on the all app tab, I discovered that the camera app was there but was marked as "Not Installed" down the bottom list.
I tried several things, cleared app settings, installed again from taking the apk from /system/app, nothing...
Also gallery was crashing but I think after I installed the apk from /system/app and worked again.
The other apps (that came with kitkat) work fine and are installed
Is there a way, without factory reset Nexus, to get back Camera on my wife user ?? Any adb command??

i9500 Push notification issue (post-root)

Hello, I've had my i9500 gs4 for a while now and finally took a leap of faith and rooted it (had a bad experience before on a gs2) I rooted it fine used the CF-Auto root tar file and open twrp recovery and everything was okay. I installed titanium backup, and nobloat and deleted some apps i really didn't like as well as some other things i didn't find completely useful like face recognition lock stuff. That went all okay and i didnt notice any hiccups in my phone and I left my phone to charge for a while.
When i came back a friend tried to message me on facebook and I hadn't heard my phone notify me and I hadn't received any notifications from the messages at all for an hour, I took a look through some of the things i had frozen in titanium backup and unfroze google play services and installed push notification fixer which did speed up the notifications of my other apps (textra, regular facebook app, emails) but still didn't give me any notifications from the messenger app, i have attempted an assortment of troubleshooting like uninstalling and reinstalling the app, fiddling around with the application settings and the heartbeat intervals for the PNF app, basically anything short of flashing stock.
I am quite lucky with my experience to get this far and this issue is more of an inconvenience more then anything, and to be honest i believe I've just accidentally deleted something, but i would really appreciate any help and I thank you in advance for your time.
You have obviously deleted or frozen something you shouldn't have. I can't believe you froze Google Play Services!
I would download and re-flash your firmware, unless you can replace the apps you deleted?

thank you for the reply, i have cleared the cache, and data off the app and reinstalled it from the google play store and that seems to have fixed the problem at least for now, and yeah xD i felt a bit dumb when i found it frozen.

Recommended apps popup?

Hey everyone.
This evening my girlfriend updated her apps on her S5 running 5.0 and she kept getting a little popup at the bottom of the screen every time an application finished downloading. This has never happened before, so we're trying to see if it's some sort of malware, or a setting that somehow turned itself on that can be disabled.
Attached is a screenshot of a popup.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!
Did she updated via playstore? This "Installation Dialog" i've never seen before.
Yeah, everything was done with the play store.
After doing a little research, it seems to be linked to GO SMS PRO. I'll have her uninstall it and see if it still happens.
You should download malware detector, I've never seen that before either.
Does it still happen?
That's why I stopped using go sms a couple years ago. They added push notifications to the app.
Had her remove GO SMS and it's no longer happening. I'm glad I switched away from GO SMS a while ago. That's awful.
