root problem - Epic 4G General

my epic 4g was rooted and running perfect. the other day it lost root. set cpu, titanium. non of it works. i did a factory reset and flashed epic experience again and a few other roms. also cleared cach and dalvik. nothing has brought back my SU permissions. any o e encou tered this and know how to fix it?

Root it again? If you're using superuser, you have to keep the phone turned on and unlocked the first time you su in adb.

Same as me ROOT PROBLEM ON EVO 4g
Will someone please help me? I originally rooted on unrevoked 3, and I was finally granted superuser permission, now I tried reading up on flashing a rom and now lost my superuser guy, and ended up with a blue# sign saying superuser, but no access? I had bought this after a few had broke in the past with the port, being junk, and Firmware version is now 2.1-update 1 I just got this phone a month ago, anyway the Baseband version is 2.15.00.09.01 the kernal is 2.6.29-a2443432 [email protected] #1, and if that isnt bad engough build is RvU 1.3.2? software number 1.32.651.6 Browser version is still 3.1 PRI Version 177_003 PRL 60671 Help you can tweet me at smw5247 please been up all 2nights, first time I am asking?

i also tried rooting again but now my computer says it doesnt have the correct driver to reco ize the phone. i updated them to the newest drivers and still doesnt reconize it. any one got some ideas on getting windows 7 to see my pbone?

Did u try the USB ports on you're Motherbord? Try all the ports on the back of ur pc. The front ports on a lot of computers have problems with Devices like phones and GPSs on the under powered front ports. My one PC does not like my Epic or my Garmin GPS on the front

Why not just flash an already rooted kernel? Also make sure you didn't end up with superuser.apk in /data/app and /system/app, that can cause weird issues too

Hey, thanks for the ideas. I finally figured out part of my problem with the phone not being rooted, I did unrevoked again and flashes it, but I lost my Froyo 2.2, and have that kernal I mentioned earlier! My benchmarks R in the basement & I am not sure which rom or kernal to use? I lost my flashlight and when they took off the cap for FPS! Can someone recommend one I can just scan? I lost a lot of paid apps too!

flashing a new rooted kernel did the trick. over clocking to 1600MHZ. GOOD STUFF, THANKS FOR THE ADVICE

[HOWTO] Is Anyone Rooting There Samsung Intercept..?

Hello all..! Love xda..! Love the forums. This is my first post, but long time reader and user of xda. One Question. Is anyone going or have rooted the samsung intercept. Ive checked out sdx and havent really seen much. Just wondering to see if keeping my wifes phone is worth it or just trash it and get something that I can root for her...Thanks in advance..!
"Bill"
ROOT for intercept
xda doent have a page yet but you can find the how to here
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...-build-7-for-the-intercept/msg79742/#msg79742
there seems to be no stable recovery yet from what i read. apperantly wiping cache or something bricks the intercept.
is this true?
i want to root my brothers virgin mobile intercept but cant really find a great how to... nor can i find any 2.2 roms.
i met a guy who works at best buy who was actually rooted, he had a live wallpaper running. but he was no help and wanted to charge my brother 100$ for root.
i have rooted well over 70 different phones since my g1 days, and i have always done it for free. appreantly karma didnt have my back that day.
after politely telling the gentleman to fk off, i began researching. hence why i am so confused, so many people advise to use z4, super one click and many others advise and warn against it.
i myself am glad to see this forum here. hopefully we can get some concrete info stickied soon.
I sent you a PM with the link for the rooting tool. I cant post links, I'm a newbie in this forum. Hope that will help you. Please could you post the info and link.
Regards
I rooted my girlfriend's Intercept successfully. The only thing she's used though is wifi tethering with Barnacle Legacy, but that obviously means it's been rooted successfully. Here's the text from the SDX post I used (I think it's for Windows 7 only):
1. Download and install SWUpgrade for the moment from here (http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/samsung/executables/SamsungMoment_Update.exe),
then install LouZiffer's patch (https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B1g2...ThjOTktODUzYTQwNWJhMGU3&export=download&hl=en).
2. Download the recovery file (http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/inxane/intercept/recoveryv14.tar)
and put it in C:\Program Files (Program Files (x86) if you are on 64 bit)\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary.
DELETE THE FILE ALREADY IN THERE OR YOU MAY PERMA-BRICK YOUR INTERCEPT
3. Start your Intercept in Download Mode (Vol Dn + Camera + End) and plug it into the computer. Install the drivers...
4. Open SWUpgrade and walk through the steps.
5. Make the following folders on the SD card:
/sdx/updates
/sdx/zip
/sdx/backup
6. Put
inxane's kernel file: http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/inxane/intercept/inxane0381intercept.zip
in /sdx/zip folder created above
7. Now enter recovery mode (vol dn, talk, end) and select the install zip from sd card option.
8. Reboot and you are good to go.
I strongly advise against any ROM found on sdx. I've tried them all and none of them are even fully working. The one currently on my fiancees phone cannot turn off as holding the power button freezes the phone until the battery is pulled. I have not got SU to work with anything except root explorer and su keeps telling me a newer version is available when it's clearly not. The custom recovery can't even wipe without bricking the phone...
We need some experienced developers to take a crack at this. All the developers currently working on the Intercept are making progress and are getting better and better but right now all rooting is experimental and dangerous. I mean for gods sake, a wipe will brick your phone? WTF?
Hello forum,
I have had my intercept rooted and running basic ROM 1.7 since it became available it did take all day to get it to work right but after boot up and using the ROM manager premium to "fix permissions" i haven't had any issues as of yet

FYI - 1.7.1 is out, but I don't think its in the OP on sdx.
sdx roms after rooting
I have used ubuntdroid for my virgin mobile intercept since it came out, fantastic rom , reminds me of cm mods.

has anyone managed to root after the froyo update? z4 won't work for me

As I understand, the recovery is a Samsung Moment recovery ported just to be able to flash ROMs. People have reported both - a wipe will brick, and a wipe will not brick. I'm going to -assume- that it depends on either sprint or vm. It is stated all over SDX-Developers that a wipe will brick.
The way I "wipe" is go into file browser on the custom recovery, select data, hit the MENU button, and hit delete. Same can be done for system, but not needed as the ROMs you flash will delete the /system partition anyways.
will there be some way to do it the z4root way ever?
Just posted the easiest way to root your Intercept in this forum.
Yeah, our recovery was ported from the moment. Its not able to do half the things that it should be able to do. You could brick your phone by doing a wipe, and many functions might report an error when you attempt them.
ok i have been having ALOT of trouble...i apreciate anyone in advance if they can help me...I DO NOT RUN WINDOWS UNLESS I HAVE TO, i have a dual boot of windows vista and linux mint 10. i am trying to root my virgin mobile samsung intercept. every way i have tried seems like it just wont work. i logged into my windows vista and read up on the super one click root. when i went to DL the drivers it came back with a message that said my processor is incompatible..i just dont understand how when i have a intel core 2 duo...i am wanting to avoid using windows so if anyone can help with linux mint 10 then PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Well I did a factory restore of my phone and it did brick my phone but i restored the backup and the phone works like a champ again. Rooted with squealjoy. The only problem I have faced so far is the music skipping in the mp3 payer but I can live with that for free tethering.

Hello Forum!
I successfully rooted my phone about two weeks ago, just to have 'live wallpaper' on it. (It works but it's a little slow.)
The problem that I've noticed that I'm having now is the delay time of sound. For instance, when I'm playing a video or even a game, the sound is late and off cue. Is this an issue from rooting the phone, or is it deriving from somewhere else?
It's not a BIG problem, but it's getting very annoying and would like it resolved soon. Any advice would be helpful.

Z4root works for me on VM Intercept 2.1, well enough to let me run Barnacle for tethering, which is all I need root for at the moment. VM Intercepts get 2.2 in about a month, should make it easier to root and/or tether.
How can i root my sprint intercept, it has froyo and i want custom recovery.
Also what is the fastest rom????

Question about flashing the leaked DK28 Froyo

My buddy has the Samsung Epic 4g stock phone. He has not done anything to it at all like root or install any other roms/themes.. He wants to update to 2.2 Froyo DK28. Right now he is running 2.1-update1 SPH-D700 EClAIR.DI18. I have been reading through a bunch of posts online but a little confused. I see they have the update.zip file that you can put on your SD card and apply. If you do it this way do you need to do anything else? Or once you apply zip and install and boot up you are done. I see alot of things about modems and odin. I have a OG droid so I am very familar with the install zips/roms/themes but wasnt sure if the new phones are different. If anyone could let me know I would appreciate it. Should he root his phone and flash clockwork mod and make a backup first before trying to install the update?
I was in the same boat as your bud.
Used the update ziip method
Lost GPS but all apps still there
Had to odin back get lost all apps got gps lock then did the update zip again and GPS was good
Reinstaled all apps.... set up launcher pro again
Had slow auto rotation found a fix on the threads here for that
So now all is good except browser is slower and have checkerboarding ...but battery seems much better
If I had to do it all over probably would have stayed with 2.1 and waited but I am sticking with what I have now and se what happens

[Q] This is weird....

Hey everyone. I was getting prepared to flash my phone to the newest baseband and was about to do a full backup and such. I've never done anything like this before so its a bit exciting and nerve racking at the same time but everyone here seems to be good about helping out others should they encounter issues with the flash.
Anyhow here is what I found to be weird. I was just getting prepped and mounted my phone to my PC. Checked out my SD card to back up the contents. There is a 0kb zip file I've never noticed before. No clue where it came from or what it is.
The file name is: su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip
Has anyone seen this before and does anyone know what this is in regards to?
EDIT:
Never mind. It turns out it belongs to SuperUser app to root the phone. Not sure if I ever got it working. Downloaded it quite awhile ago.
What were u about to flash? I'm thinking gingerbread?

It is a file containing superuser commands, it is safe to delete.
Rooting the phone will enable you to utilise all the features possible. i would always recommend that you root the phone.
flashing it with stock fw??
If what you mean by stock fw is a fw with all the stock apps, yes it is possible just download a firmware from the above link, whereas if you meant the area specific stock fw, you will have to go for a PC companion update.
Well the intent was to get myself to 2.2.1 (FreeX10 Beta 4 I believe is the closest to stable there is right now?). But my phone is stock. I haven't performed any updates other than what has been pushed by SE.
I have rooted my phone, in order to make use of applications such as Titanium Backup, but have not done anything else with it.
My current phone information is as follows:
Model Number: X10a
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 2.0.46
Kernel Version: 2.6.29 [email protected]#1
Build Number: 2.0.A.0.504
Until 2.3 is flushed out a bit more I think I will stick with 2.2 for now. I use my camera on my phone on almost a daily basis. I don't use the video all that often however so this isn't a huge concern to me.

[Q] Help PLEASE!!

Okay first of all, let me start by saying this is my first post and I AM a noob, so be patient.
Okay, my problem is that I can't root my Sprint Samsung Intercept. I've tried SuperOneClick, Z4Root, Universal Androot, and some other one. NOTHING has worked. The SuperOneClick somewhat worked, it installed SuperUser but when I downloaded apps that require a root, they said my device isn't rooted.
I'm with Sprint and running 2.2.1.
Pease help because this is driving me crazy!!
i dont know how this stuff works either but my brother has that phone. it could be your usb isn't reading. or rather, your computer isn't recognizing the device. google samsung intercept usb and you'll see a lot of issues. this may not be your problem but its better to tell you just in case. so far for his cell phone, because he wants to tether it to his computer, so far nothing works. not downloading the right drivers. loading without debugging. mounting the sd card. thats one big solution that hasn't worked. i have high hopes for this other fix, to load samsung pc studio. New_PC_Studio_1.4.0.IL2_4.exe is the file. you can google and find it.
this site has some info. if it works and i remember to, ill repost and let you know.
en.kioskea (take out space, insert a dot)net/forum/affich-240949-samsung-sgh-f480-usb-driver-problem
hope this helps. if not then good luck. and heck if anyone else knows why exactly it does this and a real fix other than the whole disable usb debugger issue. then let me know. i even thought about trying to load the sdk for android to see if that would create some sort of connection with the phone and computer. thanks and take care
hope this helps
sdx-developers is the best place for intercept developement
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...ructions-on-rooting-spring-samsung-intercept/
follow the first step to get SWUpgrade setup (the rest is instructions for eclaire [pretty sure])
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...-2-2-(easy-root-via-swupgrade)-(battery-mod)/
flash this kernal with SWUpgrade and youll be rooted.
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...important-features-working!)-(updated-11311)/
i assume youll be wanting a recovery as well i recommend cm01 get the tar and flash it just like the kernal
intercept doesnt have many custom roms but there is tons of mods you can apply to the stock rom
I tried SWUpgrade and I bricked my last phone but it didn't matter because it was already defective.
Sent from my SPH-M910 using XDA App
did you patch SWUpgrade? delete everything in the binary folder except the file you were trying to flash?
ive never had a problem with it. it even saved me from quite a few softbricks in the short time ive had my intercept.
I did everything the videos and forums said to do. When I did that I got a different kernal but I couldn't get any service, my phone would restart every 2-5 minutes, and it would randomly vibrate. Until I got another one. I finally got SuperOneClick to get passed the "waiting for device" stage and I supposedy rooted my phone, when I tried to install apps that required root access they said my device is not rooted.

ATT I-337 running GoldenEye and having major issues.

My Prior thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/help/n00b-sgh-i337-running-original-kernel-4-t3850783
I obtained a stock MDL i337 S4 running 4.2.2 and following the instructions in the prior thread I rooted with TowelRoot and updated to Lollipop 5.0.1/ GoldenEye and I've had nothing but problems ever since, so much so that the phone has almost gotten me lost in Oakland and has made me late for work twice!
The phone freezes, sometimes randomly reboots, shuts down applications without reason or warning (LIKE MY ALARM CLOCK!!!), apps can freeze while in use (like Google Maps at a critical time!), it eats power like me at a Chinese buffet and runs hot sometimes, apps are slow to load or won't load (sucks when a call comes in. By the time I am able to answer it, the caller has hung up!), app updates hang, and more. I suspect that part of the issue is that the instructions I got for rooting it and installing a custom ROM were a bit different than those of the GoldenEYe dev (who abandoned his project years ago and no longer answers questions) but I'm not sure.
The first time I did the upgrade, it froze at the Samsung screen for almost 30 min and I had to start over. Then when it was complete the phone was almost unusable. I read that there were issues with SuperSU so I started uninstalling some of the dev apps (I really don't know what the hell I'm doing but was desperate) and when I disabled SuperSU and did clean up to switch to another superuser app" then thought I uninstalled it and all the problems seemed to go away. A few days later while doing something else in the play store, I find that SuperSU is running even though it no longer shows in my apps! So thinking something nefarious was going on, I uninstalled it via the play store and my phone was back to being hosed again. Ok, yes I'm an idiot and deserved that.
I go back to the beginning and started all over AGAIN, reinstall/upgrade but with a different kernel (thinking maybe that?, I tried leaving my apps and settings but that didn't take. Any clue how many times I've now configured my email and office tools? lol) and ended up with what I have now, ie the issues above. I thought about trying to just somehow go back to stock 4.2.2 then just finding the stock ATT Lollipop firmware and saying to hell with root but those instructions are not clear and most post links to the firmware are now dead (I REALLY don't want to brick my phone. I have no money for another and I need my phone for my job). I'd really like to go above Lollipop if at all possible but would be happy just to have GoldenEye work!
Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on with my phone and how I fix it? This is a serious problem for me.

And so we meet again! Okay so forget golden eye. What you should do is get ODIN for your PC. Then get the MDL firmware and flash it with ODIN by connect your phone to your PC. You might also need Samsung Kies for your PC for this as it has the drivers for your phone.
Once you're back on Android jelly bean, use towel root to root, install Loki, install clockwork mod or TWRP recovery (for TWRP go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262996 and for clockwork mod just use my guide again).
Then flash this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/development/rom-100-stock-i337oc3-5-0-mdl-t3098197
This will give you the latest stock Rom for your phone. It's from AT&T but has been modified to work with the MDL bootloader so it doesn't patch the Loki exploit.
Also remember that you need superSU installed or else you won't have any root management for your root apps.
Hi! lol
Any idea why this is happening? I'd really like to go to something like Marshmallow or the like but if stock is it, that will have to do.
I tried finding the MDL firmware but so far all the links are old dead ones. Have you seen anything more current?

I have no idea why golden eye is giving you issues. It works fine for me and you followed my guide just like I did. Anyway, you can goto marshmallow but it'll be AOSP based rather than touchwiz based so the look and feel will be way different than that of golden eye or any other stock Samsung ROM.
You can also just try going into clockwork mod and do a wipe (I forgot the sequence, it's wipe system, data, cache I THINK but it's in my guide on the order of how to do it) for a clean install of a ROM from there. This will eliminate the need for ODIN. You should however, keep ODIN on standby in case anything goes south you can go back to how the phone was when you first got it. I have the ODIN MDL firmware on a USB drive, let me find it over the weekend and upload it to my Google drive and will link you to it.

Well after putting up with the phone issues for 2 months, I reset everything following your instructions to the best of my abilities (except couldn't get towelroot to load so went with another). Let's see how this works! lol
Your instructions say "SuperSU will kill the evil KNOX for you." What is that and how do I do this?

Once rooted, goto the Google play store and download the SuperSU app, open it and it will ask you some stuff then do the rest. Towel root needs internet access to work. I was starting to have issues with golden eye rom off and on until I flashed the OC3 modem, you may wanna try that after you get back to golden eye.
There's also another ROM on here called i337_OC3_stock_rooted_rom(MDL) , you may want to try it out as it's 100% stock and hasn't been modified like golden eye rom has. I am not sure it works with clock work mod recovery so you might need TWRP recovery for it.
