[Q] free in-car gps on-road navigation - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi folks,
I'm looking for some software, suitable for a JasJar running WM 6.1, which can do in-car GPS street navigation. I'm using an external bluetooth GPS keyring receiver, which works perfectly well with the JasJar.
I'd buy TomTom plus maps, but the price adds up to almost the cost of a dedicated GPS navigation unit.
Any ideas?
Cheers
a

As it happens, I've been able to "acquire" a copy of "Garmin Mobile XT", the Garmin in-car GPS navigation app for Windows Mobile, which runs perfectly on the JasJar. Also, I found a site offering legitimate free maps for my country.
All solved now

And on that line thread closed as all was solved.

Nav. device ie Tom Tom

Can anyone tell me the best navigation device for the XDAII, and the best place to buy one. I'm based in London.
I use the Rikaline Bluetooth GPS that I bought from Ebay with TomTom 3 bought direct from TomTOm and it works a treat, I used to use the wired TomTom 2 before that and that was also faultless

HTC Wizard + MobileNavigator 5

Hello, I'm new to the forum.
I'm interested in using the HTC Wizard with a GPS software managing TMC like Navigon MobileNavigator 5.
Does anyone have any experience with this match?
Thank you in advance.
tried Navigon with my MDA and its very very slow
Hi,
I also use NM5 on the MDA. I think it's working fine when you overclock the MDA
If installed the map on the SD-Card and NM5 itself in the RAM.
Regards,
I am using TOMTOM - it takes less resources than Mobile Navigator and is working fine! You can have a TMC like support from TOMTOM using GPRS and a PLUS Service of TOMTOM- that is with a yearly extra fee - but you do not need a more expensive TMC GPS solution.
You have to calculate what is better for you.
@wawibu: How do you do?
Navigon on Qtek 9100
It´s work very fine and fast. No problems.
Qtek 9100 with Navigon 5.2.5
I've got a demo copy of Mapopolis on my 8125. I'm using a Holux GPSlim236 over BT to get GPS info.
Overall it works fine. It has a few quirks, like not always picking the route I would take but that's to be expected I guess. Searching large maps like Cook County, IL will sometimes freeze the device for a few seconds while it looks and sometimes will not come up with the address match. The voices do not impress me either, but it does get you to where you need to be.
I'm probalby still going to buy TomTom for the US though. From what I've seen and read, TomTom beats all, and it's only $50 more than Mapopolis.

igo does not find GPS module

Good evening,
I Have a Ipaq 1940 PDA with windows mobile 3. On the site of Igo thay say that IGO works on this PDA. I have also TOMTOM and this works fine but IGO will not find mij GPS Module( a tomtom gps Bluetooth Module).
Does anybody know what to do about it
Blaauw
Sorry blaauw, I can't help, but I'm interested in where you can buy I-Go as I'm looking for an alternative to upgrading my TomTom to v6 for my Universal. Their website doesn't seem to offer a buy facility.

Personally I wouldn't do that as a UK resident. IGO is very pretty and has nice features, but compared to Tomtom it's routing abilities leave a lot to be desired. I've currently got both IGO and Tomtom on my Universal.
IGO can be fun, because I drive a 4x4 and I like thundering down tiny tracks half covered in mud, but for the majority of time in sat nav use, I want to use real roads.
IGO is king in some countries where Tomtom has poor or non-existant coverage, but in the UK considering IGO as an upgrade to Tomtom will leave you dissapointed.
Check your GPS settings, IGO cannot see the GPS if it is set to COM0:, COM1 - 8 should be OK.

HTC Tytn/ Cingular 8525 & blueooth GPS

I had a question regarding this devices bluetooth GPS capablities.
Is there any necessary software to install on the device to use it as a GPS screen?
My intentions are to buy a bluetooth GPS receiver and link it to the phone. There is no way on earth i would pay cingular 9.99 a month for GPS that is already provided free by the government.
Has anyone had any luck linking a generic bluetooth gps receiver with the device? And if someone could please direct me to the GPS software for the device if there is such a thing.
I use a Garmin GPS10. it comes with the GPS software. it runs about $120. works well but most people seem to perfer TomTom.
eith way ypu pay a flat fee for the software and GPS receiver.
I bought a GPS receiver QSTARZ Q818 and it's working perfectly on my 8525 using Google Maps !!! and except for the receiver ($75) everything else is free !!! .. easy to set up and to use. But there is no voice ...

Bought a bt359 gps receiver for $99 from cingular and use live search (free) from microsoft. Has live traffic indicators and maps works great.
john
Voice?
Well I took the sucker punch and got the Tomtom...
Does anyone know where i would be able to download USA maps for the device?
I bought it - and took it back promptly... the GPS they sell only puts out Siirf protocol and not the NMEA. This caused only specific apps to work for me. Perhaps something was screwy on my phone but I could not get ViaVIsualEarth and GoogleMaps to function - but did not try Live Search.
I use the QSTARZ Q818 and it's working like a charm !!

GPS is free EXCEPT FOR THE MAPS... The only place you'd find free maps is on a warez site which is NOT endorsed here so PLEASE DON'T ASK...
