HTC Wizard + MobileNavigator 5 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hello, I'm new to the forum.
I'm interested in using the HTC Wizard with a GPS software managing TMC like Navigon MobileNavigator 5.
Does anyone have any experience with this match?
Thank you in advance.

tried Navigon with my MDA and its very very slow

Hi,
I also use NM5 on the MDA. I think it's working fine when you overclock the MDA
If installed the map on the SD-Card and NM5 itself in the RAM.
Regards,

I am using TOMTOM - it takes less resources than Mobile Navigator and is working fine! You can have a TMC like support from TOMTOM using GPRS and a PLUS Service of TOMTOM- that is with a yearly extra fee - but you do not need a more expensive TMC GPS solution.
You have to calculate what is better for you.
@wawibu: How do you do?

Navigon on Qtek 9100
It´s work very fine and fast. No problems.
Qtek 9100 with Navigon 5.2.5

I've got a demo copy of Mapopolis on my 8125. I'm using a Holux GPSlim236 over BT to get GPS info.
Overall it works fine. It has a few quirks, like not always picking the route I would take but that's to be expected I guess. Searching large maps like Cook County, IL will sometimes freeze the device for a few seconds while it looks and sometimes will not come up with the address match. The voices do not impress me either, but it does get you to where you need to be.
I'm probalby still going to buy TomTom for the US though. From what I've seen and read, TomTom beats all, and it's only $50 more than Mapopolis.

to tom tom or not to tom tom?

hi, got an exec and been using it for a year now and still loving it as of october i am going to be driving a taxi so, wondered what peoples advice would be, is the exec reliable and usable enough to use as sat nav for my taxi? iv trawled through the forum and read lots about the tom tom issues and im wondering whether or not to just buy an independant tom tom device and keep my exec free as as phone? i will be using my o2 bluetooth headset whilst driving and will need to be able to take calls on it.
also if you think i should stay true to my exec and tomtom her up, any suggestions on where to buy from and best gps unit etc? seen THIS on ebay, was going to use a copy of my mates tom tom but, thinking maybe it would be more reliable to just buy a genuine copy????
many thanks in advance
Hi bobby,
To be honest Tomtom works perfectly on the XDA Exec. I have a MDA Pro(T-mobile version) and i have no problems. At first there were some problems with trying to setup the bluetooth gps recievers with tomtom but that was before version 5.21 was released.
Using the phone at the same time as running tomtom is easily done. the gps reciever does not interfere with a bluetooth headset whatsoever. I have a sony erricsson HBH-300 bluetooth headset with my MDA Pro and i always take calls while using tomtom.
As it goes with the retail version of tomtom the only difference you will get is that you will have the option to subscribe to live traffic updates.
The item you have seen in ebay looks quite good. i have the same gps reciever as that deal which i know is really good but as for the holder you may want to consider getting a holder specific for the Exec as you may want to put it in landscape mode when not using tomtom.
Here are a couple of options for you for the GPS holders and recievers:

Hope this helps you, if you would like a couple of pictures of my setup please let me know.
Been using TomTom on T-Mobile MDA Pro for 9 weeks...upgraded from HP iPAQ 6515 and loving it!!!!!
The screen quality is far superior and it works like a charm
I've been using both TomTom and iGo on my Qtek9000, they work very well. I think I prefer iGo, but it's just a matter of taste I guess.
Make sure to get version 5.21 of TomTom, otherwise a bluetooth GPS reciever won't work.
hi, I use my universal, mda pro, as a sat nav and it works perfectly no issues whatsoever. I'm running tt5.21 with map of uk plus v632 the gps reciever is holux gpslim 236 which is brilliant I highly recommand this one as to the mount I have pdahut holder which does its job but there is 2 probs with it..putting the device in and out of the mount involves two hands and the stability. plus the mount is passive one. all after all is a good combination I'm very happy with it. I cannot comment on using bt headset cos I m not using yet but I am experiencing huge lags answering the phone while navigating..I use wired headset that came with the universal.
cheers, cudo
muchos gracias senors 8) thought i was gonna have to go and fork out for a whole new unti for a moment
ps. 'itwasntme' if you could mail me a pic or two of your set up il be forever in your debt mate

igo does not find GPS module

Good evening,
I Have a Ipaq 1940 PDA with windows mobile 3. On the site of Igo thay say that IGO works on this PDA. I have also TOMTOM and this works fine but IGO will not find mij GPS Module( a tomtom gps Bluetooth Module).
Does anybody know what to do about it
Blaauw
Sorry blaauw, I can't help, but I'm interested in where you can buy I-Go as I'm looking for an alternative to upgrading my TomTom to v6 for my Universal. Their website doesn't seem to offer a buy facility.

Personally I wouldn't do that as a UK resident. IGO is very pretty and has nice features, but compared to Tomtom it's routing abilities leave a lot to be desired. I've currently got both IGO and Tomtom on my Universal.
IGO can be fun, because I drive a 4x4 and I like thundering down tiny tracks half covered in mud, but for the majority of time in sat nav use, I want to use real roads.
IGO is king in some countries where Tomtom has poor or non-existant coverage, but in the UK considering IGO as an upgrade to Tomtom will leave you dissapointed.
Check your GPS settings, IGO cannot see the GPS if it is set to COM0:, COM1 - 8 should be OK.

TomTom 6 very slow on MDA PRO

Hello,
I just bought a MDA Pro and tried today TomTom 6 with my new device.
Why is it so slow?? It has a 520MHz pocessor but it is even slower than my previous qtek 9100 @200MHz??
I have all the POI's turned off but that doesn't help.
Can someone please help me out here?
My Device info:
ROM: 2.50.00 WWE
Radio: 0.00.00 (sim unlocked)
Protocol: 42.37.P8

Schmia
TT6 havent been releashed yet.
Wait for the final version to come out....oh and offcourse remember to pay for it before you ***** about it
wakeUpe dude!!!
TomTom is for sale in Holland, so your stupid comment is useless.
Norway is way behind! He he he ;-))
Schmia
I have it in UK too. Screen refresh is about twice per second. What are you seeing?
I'm running on O2 Exec with a BT77 GPS.
Cheers,
Steve
on jasjar, tomtom is only slow in landscape, not in portait

Mine's just the same. Two frames per second in landscape mode.
In portrait mode it's a little bit better but not fast.
I'm using a tomtom bluetooth Sirf III reciever

WTF. I am awake......LOL.....I even checked tt's website
But yes, Norway is waaaaaay behind
are you sure mine is running fine much smoother than tt5 even in landscape
if your using a cracked version this could be the problem
hi, using tt6 on my mda pro without any issues..it is prefect. i would not say it it slow by any means..it is much better the tt5 - just the lack of rotation within the tt's menu is a minus...but u cannot have everything, can you ?

Go back to TT5 mate.TT6 sucks!

Well, not having used TT5, I wouldn't know, but TT6 is great. 1st time with GPS device and realy love it. Easy to install and use on Exec. I'm using with a Holux GPSlim 236 and its great
M5000/MDA Pro TomTom6 Bluetooth GPS How?
How the hell have you all got TT6 working?
I read on TT's site that its not SPVM5000 compatible (Not listed on the devices)
I have had TT5.21 working sweet as a nut on the M5000, with BT GPS (Model: FGPXBT02)!
Scrathing my head on this one - TT6 installs, loads, even allows me to configure home address, configure GPS device and navigate to all the menus, but it will not find the bloody GPS receiver.
How come?? when it worked fine on TT5.21??? Surely TT have not removed generic bluetooth support?
If someone has a generic bluetooth GPS receive working with TT6 I would be grateful if you told me how! - Dont want to have to go back to using 5.21 (even though it looks like the only solution!)
Cheers.

Ever tried TomTom 5? On my Magician TomTom 6 is slower than TomTom 5, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1026668#post1026668
Update!!!
I have now successfully implemented TomTom V6 on an Orange SPVM5000.
After trying all sorts of stuff, including iGo2006 to chech the GPS was working, I hard reset the M5000 and re-installed TomTom V6 ... This still did not work... AAARRRGGGHHH
Searching through the forums I discovered that the 'NO GPS DEVICE' was common through all versions of TOM TOM and a solution was presented by a fellow user.
It turns out that TOM TOM (Any version) does not work unless you have the phone switched on (Smartphone versions only).
Out with the old simcard (defunct, just being used to stop the phone whinging about 'INSERT SIM') and in with a new PAYG from orange (not gonna use it for phoning as I have a BLACKBERRY, just using the M5000 as satnav and wireless PDA - have hands free car kit installed and did not want to remove it!!! )
Voila - the bloody thing works now - finds the GPS Device, finds the satellites and navigates the routes.
oooo - seems quicker than 5.21, and the maps look smarter - but thats about it. The maps dont seem to have been updated as our new build house number is still not on there, and the old properties have been demolished 18 months!!!! oh well - at least i have sat nav in the car again!!!
Lessons to be learned from this!!! - Don't disable the phone - lmao
Cheers!!!!
TT6 works very fine on my Universal. BT GPS and Contacts Navigation works without any problems. Redraw speed is awesome when compared to TT5.2 (at least with my configuration), although it is still less responsive than TT5.2 on a Magician.
The map for Germany is quite up to date as far as I can check.

Destinator v TomTom

Anyone with experience of both care to voice an opinion?
I'm a long time TT user, but I'm getting a bit sick of performance issues of v6 on the Tytn.
With the advent of a GPS with built in TMC and Destinator's compatibility with it, I'm very seriously considering it.
However I saw an Acer PNA with Destinator on it and the UI looked pretty unwieldy, so I'm not too sure.
Any opinions?
Ouuuh Destinator is Bull****. TomTom an Navigon are the best, i prefer Navigon, but v6 ist not yet out for PDA and there isn't a "activation fix" for v5 on WM5 (for WM2003 and PNA there is a keygen), so i'm using TomTom 6 on my Prophet, without problems or performance issues or something like that.

I don't have a Tytn, but an ooooooold Himalaya, until a few weeks, I was using Tomtom, but I decided to change because of too much bugs. Pocket pc freezing, Tomtom crashes because SD card not found anymore, crash when someone calling and it is worse in Tomtom 6.
So I found I-go, and I'm very happy, it's fast, it doesn't crash, it is very stable, it is very easy to use, I won't come back to Tomtom for sure....
Cheers,

Navigon on WM5
Hi Folks,
I have Navigon Mobile Navigator 5, version 5.2.6 with a cracker to allow "backing up" maps. If anyone is interested, happy to share. It worked out of the box with my Magician (MDA Compact with WM2003) and no problems installing on MDA VARIO II (Tytn) with WM5.
I don't use TMC as I do not have a receiver.
Navigon interface is OK, with good loud spoken instructions, great when driving in Rome on hols.
Regards
Richardracer
I use both D6 and tom tom V6 on my trion.....no problems at all with both programs.......but i do prefer then TOM TOM over the D6......i reckon the interface is a lot better and load up is quicker from the start and after putting in an address the TOM TOM seems faster to load.....few hang ups on TOM TOM but all i had to do was go back to the today screen without closing the program and then back to TOM TOM....and everything is fine again.....
Destinator 6
I bought Destinator 6 last week.
While TomTom is faster and the UI is nicer, I do prefer the directions given by Destinator. They are easier to follow while driving. The Australian map is also much more accurate that the one coming with TomTom 6. Before I was using a VDO device mounted in my car, and I guess Destinator is closer to the VDA interface that's why I prefer the Destinator.
There are a few very annoying bugs with Destinator 6 on my imate JasJam. Most of the time there will be no sound: so no vocal instructions.
From time to time it will refuse to see my BT GPS, while both TT6 and the GPS test application has no problem opening the serial port.
If I reset the JasJam then Destinator find the BT GPS without any problems.
If Destinator vocal instructions worked, it would be a winner for me. It has never crashed on me so far. While TT6 crashes from time to time.
I think TomTom v6 is the best after using them both.

Herald + bluetooth GPS + GPS Apps?

Anyone has tried using a bluetooth GPS thingie with the Herald and any apps like Destinator or TomTom?
If yes what was your opinion?
My main questions are on:
What app you used and with which GPS hardware?
Battery consumption
CPU/Mem usage and how well the app run
^_^ tnx a million.
Im interested in this as well. Does anyone use any GPS software for their Wing?
I use TomTom 6 and Route66 with a Holux GPSlim236...
The battery consumption depends on the time I use it... Long usage time means more battery drain.
The CPU/Mem usage I'm not sure, but the apps run ok without visible delay between the real position and the position indicated by the program.
EDIT: Forgot to tell onde thing... In TomTom6, the more POI's you select the bigger is the delay between the real position and the one indicated by the program.
I'm using iGO My Way 2006 with this GPS mouse and I'm very satisfied with it.
Have used the software so far in Germany in Netherlands and it didnt fail me at all.
Speed is great on my XDA terra (and before on my XDA neo) which is important,
because some navigation software are running slow on those 200MHz devices.
It's important because on shorter roads and lots of corners the display scrolls
way to slow while you are actually already in the corner.
The voice commands are usually exact and in time just not the display.
Right now I'm testing Navigon MobileNavigator. The map looks nicer, but it is slower than iGO. Can't tell much about TomTom, Route66 and Destinator.
Haven't got my hands on them yet.
I'm using a Holux M1000 GPS Bluetooth Receiver with Destinator 6 and Destinator 7.
Destinator 7 freezes sometimes, but I think it's related to the "Stand by" configuration. With Destinator 6 it works fine.
Regards,
Rodolpho
Well, I'm not yet on WM6, but TOMTOM6 works great with my herald, with a lot of POI, without any delays, and i use a MTK chipset's bluetooth GPS receiver.
I am told that WM6 is faster than WM5 for softwares such as tomtom, so...
Wing/WM6/TomTom6 here. After the pagepool hack (6MB), and after removing most of the stuff from the startup folder (my5aves in particular), TomTom works just fine, not a problem.
Battery life is satisfactory, much better than Axim x30 for sure. You might have to shut down huuuuuge programs like PocketIE manually, before starting TomTom.
Ask some specific questions, please. I'm too lazy to write a complete review this time
I have a WM6 Wing with a Holux 1000 BT GPS. I can't seem to get Tomtom 6 to work on it. The program just can't find the receiver. iGuidance 4 works fine even though it is a bit sluggish. Can anyone help me? I think I've tried two different types of BT GPS receivers and still no luck.
I am running TT6 on WM6 Herald.
TT6 is not that smooth as on my previous Qtek 9000...although I am overclocking to 247 and running on 8MB PP. Maybe its caused by my 4GB MicroSD card I dont know!
Also I have a few "bugs" on my TT, voice instructions sometimes do not match the visual commands and the daylight/night colors function is reversed.
Have reinstalled TT on a fresh WM6 installation with the same results...
Will see now if there is a difference between version 6.01 and 6.03...
And yes I have paid for my TT6 !
HTC4350 here with Holux GPSlim 236
Working with MapFactor Navigator 6, GPS Utilities and Oziexplorer just fine
Also tried GPS Tuner but it won't start because it needs more free memory, though i haven't yet tried the pagepool change.
Other than that, works perfect

Try 6MB PP. No glitches at all, as long as I exit Internet Explorer first. And of course removing everything but btdwake, CapNotify, poutlook and WiFiInit from Windows/Startup. I think I'll remove poutlook, too and see if that stops ActiveSync from starting all by itself all the time.
Also I have a few "bugs" on my TT, voice instructions sometimes do not match the visual commands and the daylight/night colors function is reversed.

None of that here, using 6.030 (8320).
I am using TT6 with WM6 without any problems! And it runs fast!
My BT GPS receiver is a cheap Sirf3.

Using TT6 (6.0.3.0 8320) with a TomTom BT GPS and it works great, never had to configure the GPS, TT always find it. But I can't get OziExplorer working with the TT GPS.
Thanks
