[Q] Micro SD / Battery - Wildfire General

Alot may know this,
I had been using an old 8gb Class 2 card until it broke!
I since reverted to a 2gb Class 4 which i have seen a massive increase in battery life.
Question I would like to ask though is it because it is a class 4? or is it because the SD is a smaller size?

Low power micro sd card recommendations for Android?

I currently have a 2Gb class 2 micro sd card.
What is the best class and size for speed and battery consumption?
I was thinking about something like this class 10 card: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC/Transcend/Transcend-8GB-SD-Card-(SDHC)---Class-10-
Anyone know if there are any fast low power cards that will work effectively?
Class 6 is enough. Just buy a Sandisk or some other reputable brand

isnt it possible to put the android rom on the mobile memory directly to improve speed'n stuff ?
The card you are looking at is an SD. You need a microSD.

8GB Class 6... Can't go wrong

[Q] Most Reliable SD Card to Run Android

Might sound like a strange question, but what would you suggest getting for most stable Android run. I've had a SAN DISK 16GB but it would always get corrupt and formatting (tried using SD Formatter/windows tools/phone) would only fix the problem for short time.
So which of the following in your opinion is the most reliable choice:
1. SAN DISK
2. PATRIOT
3. Kingston
4. ADATA
5. Transcend
6. Lexar
7. SONY
Also, what class (2,4,6 would be nice if someone could explain whats best and generally what it means). As well as capacity (whether it affects reliability)
No one buy the kingston class 4 4gb card, does not work well at all! I trashed it lol
i got a Class 10 Patriot card, works well, really well
Transcends 8gb Class 6!
Never had a problem with it
Hi, I am using transcend 8Gb card. I dont find any problem till now.
RiData 16GB Class 6
Been using it for 2 weeks. No issues.
Write & Read transfers are averaging 9mbs when transfering backups to and from.
Kingmax 8Gb Class 6, not bad
Don't buy transcend 8gb class 6 card in any situation, it has really bad power drainage problem in every build, after I swapped it with my friends verbatim class 4 8gb I have top 1 % per hour drain in standby, believe me.
Stock 16 gb san disk I got when I purchased my hd2, runs amazingly

I use stock card

Any way to check faulty micro sd?
Thanks everyone for the input, seems like I've either got a faulty SanDisk card or doing something wrong here. Are there any tools to test whether or not my 16Gb SanDisk micro sd is faulty or possibly corrupt... By the way, I got it off ebay for $20... seems fishy, although it came in original packagin brand new.
...
German TakeMS 4GB Class6, works like a charm...
Transcend 16gb class 6 runs Android with no hiccups at all and the transfer rate is blazing fast
Samsung 4Go Class 4, low battery drainage, performs like a class 6 card. Original style (grey coloured).
Battery consumption
Battery consumption on Transcend sucks if you want long battery life use sandisk or best by my tests 8gb class 4 Kingston.
i have 4 different sd cards kingston 4 gig class 2, 2 sandisk 4 gig , and a class 6 transcend 8 gig...and i always get better results with the stock card

Sd card don't have jack sh*$ to do with battery drain. As far as cards go, it don't matter. Just pick one. There all the same regardless if someone says this one is faster because it's a class 6, or 8. I have a class 2,4, and 8. No difference what so ever. Even though its written on the class 8 at a higher speed.
Any idea on why sometimes I find non-removable random symbol files on my SD? Does this indicate corruption?
German TakeMS 8gb class 6 extreme fast and stable.
beware buying microsd on ebay

Sd card classes

Ok im not good at sd cards, can someone tell me what's the difference on sd classes? I know the lower the class is the slower the mbits/s is. I was looking up some micro sd on ebay the class 2 were the most expensive ones. Can someone tell me why?and whats the best sd for the phones were using now or at least for our g2? Thanks!

IDK why class two was the most expensive, I always run class 6, higher then that are extremely hard to find, and i'm not sure what the expansion port's max speed is, I have heard there is no difference with the one or two higher class 10 cards that are available
SD: Class0: below 2GB
SDHC: Class2(2MB/sec)
SDHC: Class4(4MB/sec)
SDHC: Class6(6MB/sec)
Class2&4 fit a smart-phone the most.
Class6 is kinda too quick for a cell...people often use it in a DSLR(Digital Single Lens Reflex)
The quicker speed of transferring a card has ,the bigger the capacity is.(well......usually.....)
BUT when you use a very very big card in you phone.Let's say 32 GB . Your phone WILL be burdened by the card, thus slowing down significantly.
Hope what I said was right..
8GB is the sweet spot.

[Q] Desire Z SD card class?

Hi,
Does anybody here knows which class is the 8gb micro sd card included in the Desire Z??
Not 100% positive on this but I remember reading somewhere that it was only a class 2 card... =/
I got a class 4 card, but seems to be a bit of lottery.
I've read that some got class 2.
Mine was 8 GB, Samsung, Class 2. And it got replaced right away with a 16 GB Class 10.

Is there any point in a class 10?
Can the Z handle it? I know the Pulse has a limit of class 6...
Also - nice card.
Damm I hope I get a class 4 but how can you know which class is the sd card? Does it say on it?
Yes typically the card will have the class printed on it.
Remember though the class is a measurement of the MINIMUM speed the card is capable of handling.
Ex: Class 4 can write at a MINIMUM of 4 mb/s. I have a kingston class 4, 8GB card that I have tested thourougly and it regularly writes at 8+ mb/s.
Not sure where you draw the line on what is overkill for an Android Device. I know on other devices, I.E. SLR Cameras, a slow/bad card can have a big impact on the way things run...
Came with a Samsung Class 2 8GB for me, replaced it with an San Disk 16GB Class 4.

Yes, it can handle the Class 10. The only real benefit is when doing 720p video recording. Most of the time, anything over a Class 4 will feel the same in day-to-day usage (other than video recording).
The other advantage is that if you transfer files to the phone, it'll be somewhat faster.
Also, the card you get with the DZ, it show the class right on the card itself. In my case it was a Samsung 8GB MicroSDHC Class 2. Replaced with a Kingston 16GB MicroSDHC Class 10. <3
Here's a somewhat subjective read on the topic: http://pocketnow.com/android/does-using-a-faster-sdcard-make-your-phone-faster
I don't know if you can see the difference between Class 2 and Class 10 on the Desire Z. Maybe running some apps that install on SD Card is a little faster, also saving photos, browsing through MP3s, playing videos, etc.
When moving large quantities of data (bigger files), there is an increase in speed, e.g. 18 MB/s (Class 10) vs. 10-12 MB/s (Class 2). I expect the differencte to be the same with small files, but I haven't tested yet. Maybe it's not worth the double price tag, but I needed 16 GB and chose to go with the fastest option available...
Mine and everyone else I know with a Z or G2 came with a samsung 8gb class 2 card.
I have now put my 8Gb class 4 in, but I might look to get a bigger class 4 or 6 card soon.

HOLD FIRE on mymemory. This new card is giving read speeds of 10 mbs but write speed only 1 mbs!!!!!!!!!! I need to test in my Hero to see what I get.
Can anyone recommend good speed test apps, for either android or to run off my Windows lappy?
I got a SanDisk Class 4, 8GB card with mine (NAM Unbranded/Unlocked Version)
Tested it and it writes at 5.21 mb/s and reads at 14.8 mb/s

PNY 16GB class 10 Micro SD or Sandisk 16GB Class 4 Micro SD

I will be using it for storing/taking photos/movies and storing lots of gameloft HD games on it.
Which is better for my x10 with what I use it for? Which one will have better performance when it comes viewing photos and movies? Will the games load faster on the pny class 10?
Or will the difference in performance from two cards not noticeable from everyday use?
Thanks
Not card wise but company wise, sandisk makes better memory cards if not the best in my opinion. I have never had a problem with their cards.
Choose them if the memory card you need is made by them.

Read speeds can be significantly improved with the SD Speed Increase app developed by a xda member. Write speeds have no such cache fix available.
Unless you are writing very sequencally all cards are very slow. Technically a class 10 should be twice as fast with seq writes, but differences in materials and design sometimes reduce the difference.
A 32gb Kingston class 4 writes at 4.356 MB/s and a Lexar 32gb class 10 writes at 11.44 MB/s. But a Class 4 8gb Sony writes at 10.19MB/s! So what you actually get will be unknown until you have the cards.

Hi there, i just bought a generic 16gb class 10 microSDHC card off of ebay for £16, it was cheap so i was a bit skeptical, but i received it and did sum read write tests, i got upto 11meg write speed so atleast i know its not a fake, but its working well videos and pics are saving a lot quicker so im happy with it for the moment.
I have both cards right now, It was used for my sony camcorder.
How can I test both of them in my phone?
stan.s whats that app you are referring to? where can I find it?
THanks

I bought a PNY 16Gb Class 10 off PLAY for a bargain price (about £16) and am now in the process of returning it as I had to keep fixing errors using my PC.
I have had a lot of PNY flash cards for my camera with no problems, so hop this is just a one-off?
Hopefully the replacement card (a direct replacement) will be better.....

I'm using PNY 16gb class 10 for my x10....
is good.... no prb at all
It varies alot depending on brand but last time I checked android simply didnt take advantage from anything faster than class 4.. You can of course remove card plug it into pc card reader and fill it faster.. But android os is limited and wont take advantage of a class 10 card speed. Maybe on 2.3 or 3.0 ? But it doesnt on 2.1/2.2 at least
