For the first time ever I hit 2gb in one month and then tmobile throttled my speed down to something between edge and 3g...
just for a tip to anyone out there, if you have wifi at home then use wifi while you are at home. I am only throttled from 17th-19th (new billing cycle) but it sucks bad...
That's a bummer. I'm stoked that I have Wi-Fi at home AND work that I tap into. I rarely have to use my data so I don't have that fear of going over. I hope that I never get into a situation where this happens.

I also had the displeasure of being throttled last month. I make it a point to turn on WiFi when I'm at home so that it doesn't happen again. This sucks, considering a lot of apps are using large amounts of data these days. :/
Its only a 2 gig limit for newer customers right? Us oldie customers still get up to 5 I hope!

Just an idea for those who haven't considered, you can use apps like Tasker or AutomateIt (free) to automatically turn on wifi when at home using location-based triggers and things like that.
u guys think u had it bad,, i used two gigs of data withing a week of my bill cuz i had to tether to my laptop. so im stuck with this like edge **** for the rest of the month...
Your 2 gig cap is the data feature you have, you can upgrade it to a 5 gig cap if you pay $10 more a month, or you could go with the outrageous 10gig cap for an extra $40 a month on top of what your paying now, wifi is your best bet. Throttled speeds are around 50-100kbps, but hey it beats overages any day

Ok so what if I just have the unlimited grandfathered that I have had for the past five years? Is it now magically just a 2 gig limit instead of the five it always used to be?

Okay guys I know getting throttled sucks but during this and last month I've had unlimited data! I mean truly unlimited no cap! I've have passed the 5Gb cap and have gotten the infamous text telling me my speed will be slowed. I've been experiencing this since I updated the leaked gingy from t-mobile I don't know if that's the case of my fortunate situation. Last month I used 10.2Gb(lol double checked dang that's a lot!) and right now I'm at 5.5Gb.I'm still at full speed with 18 or so days left on my billing cycle. Is anyone else experiencing this?

If your using the leaked gingerbread, then you are also on the 04.30 radio, which is the thing keeping you from being throttled. This has been confirmed by me and various other users on different roms, as far as I know it's the only radio that can defeat throttling.... somehow. But hey I'll take it

I wouldn't expect it to last too much longer, lol. But hey it works right now so get it while you can!
Edit: I would first test this toward the end of your billing cycle, there are scattered reports that this doesn't work for some people.

There are people on all different radios that get the throttle text and never get throttled. It really seems like a roll of the dice no matter what radio your on now that you said the .30 doesn't work for all people. All the other radios work for some and not for others as far as throttling goes also.

Oh no, I don't like reading this. I just joined Tmobile because their data plans are cheap and I THOUGHT they had unlimited 3G. I only bought 200MB of 4G thinking I'd be on semi decent 3G but now I'm screwed. Queue buyer's remorse...
Got a letter today about tethering.. said that if I dont stop tethering they will change my plan to a tethering plan and cap me at 4gb... that's some str8 BS.. my question is how do they know I'm tethering and is there a way to block them from knowing I am... I'm not going to go from a unlimited plan to a capped plan for 15 dollars more of it was unlimited I would gladly pay the extra money. If anyone knows a way to tether still with out them knowing that would be sweet!!!

They can tell by the packet data, and as far as I know, there's no way for you to stop them from tracing it and finding out.
I would have thought that using a vpn would do the trick but Im not to sure, when I renewed mine I saw a few for about $40-$60 a year. I would say try tor but that might cause more problems then its worth
And as for them knowing how your doing it, the only way they would know is by packet sniffing(I think), but as android has the full internet I really don't no how they are able to tell the difference between you tethering and you using the browser on your phone.
how much data did you use?
I use and average of about 20-30gb a month... that's the reason I wont get a tethering plan cuz they cap it at 4gb a month. If it was unlimited I would have no problem giving them the extra 15 a month for the tethering
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Most I ever used was 72gb a month... I guess that's the reason my account got red flagged I guess lol...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
The softcap for even unlimited accounts is 5gb,
you used over a year's worth of data in 1 month, i'm surprised they didnt immediately cut you off without notice as that's what ISPs use to justify having caps in the first place (though the whole unlimited = 5gb thing is a load to begin with)
It's boarderline physically impossible for a phone/tab to consume that much data without the user being physically present the entire time.
You COULD hit it by nonstop streaming netflix for an entire month but that's much less likely then using tethering it and doing non web browsing/gaming/anything heavy bandwidth that a phone/tab cant do itself
More or less they wont bother looking for tetherers that stay below their soft caps, but once you exceed the cap by like 100% it doesnt matter if it's tethering or not they'll still be mad

Meh i pressed the wrong button, the only 'unlimited' data plans available are the grandfathered ones.
It's not even available anymore if you dont already have it, all you're gonna do is encourage them to lower caps/raise prices even more

I've never seen that message before, i've had tmo for quite some time and even went over 5GB before. I would turn on 2G, for a few moments, then return to 3G/4G, and speeds should be fine.
I just get upset when I hear you guys say I don't get throttled or when I get throttled I get a decent speed.. now am in new York city. I don't know where you guys are from but its just frustrating to see others get throttled to decent speed and others not getting throttled.. Damn feel like am missing out.. when I get throttled the most I get when I run speed test is 60kbs. Everyone gets throttled no matter who you are or where you live. Some get lucky and don't get throttled, some probably do not even use their web as much to go over the cap to get throttled or some just don't notice. I've gotten away without getting throttled after going over my gb cap a few times.

what do you mean by "have them reset your data"?
tell them that u are having problem with data that ur phone drops calls and u don't get txt, the update profile on ur phone does nothing but update the phone, when u flash difference roms to ur phone, ur data gets wak. so just tell them to reset ur data
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
yea i just tried that, three different reps had no idea what "reset your data" meant. Ive been through every single fix they can do, I've never once heard of "resetting your data"...
when u call *2 the operator ask you if you have data problems. press 4 with problem can't receive or send txt, that that take u to data support and just tell them that u can't receive text or send txt. then they will ask u, to take our battery out. I thought they were throwing me, but they don't do that... trust me it works here's another picture of my test. results don't lie
It will slow down again an again. It's no different then rebooting a PC.
A fresh boot will be faster the bog down later on. You can always turn off your mobile network on your phone and wait ten minutes then turn it back on and you will get the same results.
Plus there is always ##3282# if you have your phones MSL code and you can do what they did.

Thanks OP but this is not really a fix but a mere band aid. That has been done for quite some time now going back to my windows mobile days. As another member has mentioned it might be good for a while but it will go back. Hopefully for you it does not and you get lucky and have great speeds. Personally my data has been refreshed at least a half dozen times.... Thanks for your input and good luck.
Also like previously mentioned you can try the ##3282# method its the same effect...
I hope, but like I stated before. that wouldnt work. I have try everything "##3282# and hit restore and commit and reboot. my girl friends evo is not rooted and she would get 10x faster 3g then my rooted evo 4g. everytime i use a different rom my 3g gets really slow.

Hi Mikeylee I feel your pain bro. I thought the airrave would be a good solution. Sometimes though I could be the messanging app's fault. Sometimes the app would mess up and I would have to clear the data in the messaging app or worst case reflash the rom again. Before my phone can send text messages again. I believe the APN get messed up sometimes.

Exactly. And as I understand it, the AirRave only compensates for data, not the voice signal, which is what basic texts use to transmit.
You could have your phone glued direcly to the AirRave, which could be connected directly to a T3 trunk line, but if you have no Sprint coverage, you still won't be able to make a phone call or send a basic text. (YouTube streaming would be pretty amazing, though...)

I could be wrong, then - haven't had to look it up because I've been lucky enough not to need one... it's somewhat of a bull**** deal, pay Sprint extra (even if it's next to nothing, one cent is too much) to use your own (paid) internet connection through [insert ISP name here, will NOT be Sprint] to compensate for Sprint's lack of service...

Yep the old reliable samsung airave only does 1x. But it works great for text and voice. I have wifi for data anyways at home.

Yes the first Airave that I bet most of you have, only does Voice and Sms. The newer one does 3g data as well.

Sprint: "We're sorry for letting you down... but if you pay us a nominal fee, we'll be nice enough to allow some other company to make up for it (You'll have to pay said company full price, of course)"

Lean on them enough and they'll provide both the device and service for free.
But yeah using your ISP lets them off the hook completely.

When I had an airrave my only complaint is if you came into the house while on a call th airrave interferred with the signal and made the phone call all choppy and I would have to hang up and call back. Other than that it worked like it was suppose to.
