New evo, in call voice too loud ? - EVO 4G General

so i cracked my screen badly on my evo a while back and sprint got me a replacement evo. i picked it up last night and it works great...but when i call someone or someone calls me the in call volume is way too loud for the phone EVEN when i lower the volume. it sounds so distorted and very hard to understand.

did it came with froyo already or eclair?
if froyo, be sure u do all the Over-the-Air updates by sprint, we had probs with sound in early versions of froyo

i have the same problem!! i hate it!!

Settings>About Phone>Software Information and it should say android version at the top. 2.1 = eclair, 2.2 = froyo
Sent From My HTC EVO 4g

.........im on 2.2.

Same thing happened to me, all of a sudden the incall speaker would be really loud and not very clear. The same thing happened to my friend's evo. I took mine to Sprint and the tech said to the other tech that it was "the speaker issue" so I think it's pretty common. They replaced it in a couple of minutes and it's been good ever since

Skype for Android is officially out...not for Rachael?

*Sorry for double posting, I guess I'm a little too slow . Mods, delete this thread if you have to*
Today's the day I had been waiting for...until 10 mins ago when I found out that the newly announced, official Skype for Android is available for 2.1+ only. Anybody got a gun?
oh well, I've been waiting for this moment for months...another month wouldn't hurt i guess.

Not work for me. Currently. Now I have a strong reason to upgrade to 2.1

well i just want 2.1 now!!!!!!
still got the beta but with no calls it just sux
Who is Rachael?
Why does everyone refer to the phone by a girl's name? It creeps me out.
Anyway, Skype will be available in a few weeks for the X10.
What sucks is it's not out in Japan, despite there being a 2.1 device out (Desire).

cause Rachael is the code name of the X10
Rachael's the codename for X10 when it was announced. I like to call my X10 that cuz it's sexy lol. Yea, I heard Skype is not available for Japan an China, that's too bad
I realize it's the code name... but people refer to the X10 as "her" and the like.. that's the creepy part. lol.
Also, with 1.6, Nimbuzz works pretty good for Skype. SkypeOut is a different story..

This is why i call my x10 "Mike". Its good to have my mate Mike with me at all times, He is so clever - always has the answers.
back on topic though, as annoying as it is not having Skype for 1.6, im ok with waiting another few weeks - hell, we've waited a while now! what is a little bit longer.

uhh... i think i'd rather have a female phone in my pocket rather than a male
Jokes aside, that's the spirit! I'm a long time user of Skype and i have a subscription with them where i can call anywhere in the world unlimited for about $14. Having Skype on my X10 would be a very good advantage.
The correct answer is "Donuts." Skype never intended its app to be used with donuts and, if they still exist, cupcakes.
Oh, yeah, the Motorola Backflip is still cupcake so far.
motorola dext still has donut in mexico xD
I seriously want an unlocked phone

Inanimate objects are traditionally referred to in the feminine in the English language. Boats and cars particularly. I don't really find it unusual for this tradition to carry over to other items.

We'll see. I'm not too confident in SE's release schedule.
If you're in Canada, yeah, you'll have to wait.
A few weeks isn't too long, even if they miss October, it'll be November, which still falls under "a few weeks".
right "few" weeks
SE will say "oh yeah forgot to say, update will be lauched in Q4 2023"

A few weeks is a pretty long time after you've already missed a deadline to release an operating system which will be a major version behind the competition. Soon to be two versions behind (again) in "just a few weeks."

Froyo?

I've heard, and read that Froyo is out for the Epic?
Is this true? if so has anyone tried it out yet?
It's been given to Sprint at this point. Not the user. Also, this is definitely the wrong sub-section for this post.
Before this gets moved, I have a question...when froyo is released, will we have to reroot it? I'm coming from the evo, and you don't notice the difference between 2.1 and 2.2 until youv had the later and suddenly snap back. Like sand in a open wound :-(

As long as you don't accept an OTA, you shouldn't have to re-root.
What we could really use is a leak.
[cough] Mid-November [/cough]
Before the end of this year...
I remember reading somewhere that in 2.2, the stock dialer must be used. Does this mean that the Epic's dialer would not be there? I have seen the dialer that comes with a vanilla 2.2 and the Epic's dialer is so much better. I hope this is not the case.

Probably not going to be the case being the the EVO still has the sense dialer on 2.2.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
As ususal, Engadget gets it wrong. They can't even read a press release, and never bothered to pick up the phone and call Samsung. This announcement was datelined from London and about the UK, which is clear from its context.
See also this thread in Vibrant forum.
p.s. As recently as a few minutes ago, Samsung's Galaxy S support site for the U.S. on Twitter was saying there is not ETA for Froyo on this side of the pond at all.
Deployment for the Epic is even more complicated than the rollout for the GSM-based variants in the U.S. If the Epic gets Froyo in November, I will be most pleasantly surprised.
one way or another it seems like typical samsung taking forever to release an update
I just got word from my sprint connect to not expect froyo until mid-late december... he said it may be well into january before sprint pushes it out. let's hope he's wrong!

Typical sprint. Its like a perfect storm of two companies that look at support only as an expense, not as retaining future customers.

I hope they put the Sprint ID or whatever it is on it so I can do away with TW all together. Looked at the Samsung Transform review and was jealous that there was no TW.
I was hoping the delay was due to Sprint ID

I'm inclined to believe this since Rogers in Canada is saying their version of the Captivate will get Froyo in 2011. If Froyo was ready in 2010, everywhere else in the world, why would Rogers tell their customers to expect it in 2011?
Samsung is a joke when it comes to software updates...almost on par with htc gimping allof there products

What? You want to wait until 2012 to get a new OS update?
What does 2.2 offer that you can't have on 2.1? I just don't see what the big deal is anyways. Is everyone that unsatisfied with their phone that they are getting bent out of shape about 2.2? This is Sprint and Samsung we are talking about right? I fully expect it to be here in January or February. In the mean time, I will enjoy my Epic with 2.1 Which is still better than the Evo on 2.2, imho.

I heard flash sucked with 2.2 but that's just me. Granted it's nice to have and it's something the I-suck doesn't have so that's always a plus.
Phone is plenty fast for me but I don't do anything extensive on it. Even when it drops I'll probably still wait a while to see if it's even worth it. Reading the Evo forums, it sounded like it was more trouble than it was worth and broke more things than fixed.

You want to exchange one piece of bloat for another piece?
Why not just ship it with stock Android (and more than 3 screens) and then allow us to customize our devices as we see fit?

Thats because its on a Evo lol
Yeah I went to the Sprint store when I went and bought my case for my Epic and messed around with an Evo..be it a display, and they had a screen protector on it, the screened looked REALLY grainy, and it was very very slow. I'm guessing it hadn't been restarted in awhile and had every app open on it running in the background. I checked it and sure enough it was running on 2.2.

Just called HTC

So that i could ask whether or not were getting a update for sense. didn't get a clear answer (didn't expect to.) and the guy said he cant give me the date for the update. hmmmm....... sounds like somebody knows something that they won't tell.
The updated sense is beautiful but so is MIUI... plus I use my camera too much at this point to give it up. I can deal with no 4G

2.3????

guesses? rumors? news? anyone? lots of hype about this. but it kinda seems like vibrant is gonna get left in the dust seeing as how we are still on 2.1. from what i have been reading, 2.3 (gingerbread) will be out within a week! so us vibrant users will be 2 versions behind! (wtf tmo and samsung?) my thoughts are maybe they didnt update us cuz they where just waiting for 2.3 to come out and wanted to get all the updating done at once. but i do kinda live in a fantasy world (drugs are bad mmmkay) so what are the thought from the fine folks here at xda on this matter?

Jk2 is a build number of the most recent (and most important since its specifically for vibrants) froyo. Before this all the froyo roms out has been built off of other variations on diff models/carrier.
The fact that jk2 was leaked means the official ota for all tmobile customers is real and immenent.

I doubt we'll ever see an official 2.3. Samsung will probably release 2.2 somewhere between 2-4 months behind the competition. That doesn't give me great hope that we'll ever seen 2.3. Figure that it took HTC/Motorola 2-3 months to turn 2.2 final into 2.2 custom versions to OTA, then we are looking at 4-7 months from now for 2.3 if all of the same timeframes hold. That's probably past the window that this phone will receive official updates.
well seems like the ported versions of the firmware updates have problems, like the headphone jack not working. or gps lagging ect. (not to say the developers didnt do a good job{ cuz they did an awesome job}) but i use that stuff lots. i agree with lex tho. i think that we will probly stop geting updates after awhile so that the newer more awesome phones can get bought up.

mmmm im thinkin honeycomb (3.0) will be out within a year. prob not for our phones tho. we will have to upgrade to the we will have to upgrade to the galaxy t hahaha
2.3 won't be that different
2.3 won't be that different It will change the resolution mainly to allow a bigger screen Right now 2.2 really can only function on a 7 inch screen without some mods so 2.3 will have that integrated. 3.0 will have real differences, but Vibrant has become the developers phone of choice so, you will see that on the phone as soon as it gets out.

it is no more official than any of the others that are out.
I doubt it will take that long. Look, the Galaxy S took a while because these are the first phones using the Hummingbird CPU. People say HTC and Motorola are more on the ball, but they're using the same Snapdragon and OMAP cores since the beginning. Heck, Froyo was originally built for the Snapdragon--no wonder Froyo is easy to port to those phones.
Now they've got Froyo on the Hummingbird, I would think future releases will be easier to port based on the accumulated experience.

No. Froyo was pushed to the nexus one in late june.
HTC/Motorola pushed it 2-3 months after that and samsung will wind up another 2-4 months after that, depending on when they finally push it.
2.3 will be pushed any day now to the nexus one, so you can do the math from there if you assume the same timeline. My guess its that pushes 2.3 out of the window for the upgrade.
Guys.. Froyo should be out before Christmas. Team Whiskey and Eugene already got it. And tmobile is sending OTA to people with JI6 to downgrade back to JFD. They're preparing peoples phones.
Okay, we have froyo, now we are set... OH WAIT GINGERBREAD IS COMING OUT I AM NEVER HAPPY OTHER PHONES WILL HAVE IT BEFORE ME CRY CRY CRY CRY.
Seriously, I can assure you gingerbread is not going to come out this year.
And the N1 is the dev phone so of course it's going to be first to snatch up the latests firmware.
Heck, samsung or tmobile DIDNT PROMISE YOU ANY UPDATES. You bought the phone and that is it. They have your money, what are you going to do know? Didn't you check on the behold? I think they are stuck on 1.6 same as the Cliq. BE HPPY you got froyo.
