[Q] Bootloader, battery drain and cannot "Haret" Android anymore. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

All,
I try to make it as brief as possible.
this is what i post on the winmo section :
Dear All,
I try to make it short:
1. from winmo migrated to android
2. HSPL-ed 2.08
3. ran task29
4. installed barebone energy rom
5. clrd and haret. use mdeejay froyo android rom.
6. not satisfied with PPP and camera
7. wanna change back to winmo
8. CANNOT ENTER BOOTLOADER
9. pull out sd card, battery and sim card for 15 mins
10. hold -vol, successfully entered BOOTLOADER
11. have to repeat same procedure "pull out sd card, baterry and sim card for 15 mins" in order to enter booatloader
12. try enter bootloader from activesync, failed! have to pull out everything for 15mins in order to enter bootloader.
why is it happen "that" way? is it because of android (haret? or clrd?)? how to get back my normal way of entering bootloader without pulling out everything for 15mins?...
thanks
Amir

Now:
My battery drained even faster, 15% per hour
my idle process used 100% at all time
i cant "normally" enter bootloader anymore. see above quote.
i cant run Android anymore. i used to run on Android before. i took all action required provided in this forum. but still didnt success.
when running Haret, my screen stuck at green HTC logo and black background. i left it for night long, but still stuck.
i reformat sd card, not quick format, format thru pc and hp, still no luck
what should i do now?

Hope this helped
So let me summerize your probs,
1-Bootloader can't be accessed normally.
2-Android won't boot.
3-Battery Drains alot.
TBH I've never faced such problem, but try to start freshly, from scratch.
1-Run task29 to remove installed ROM.
2-Flash a new ROM, different than the old one.
3- Format Memory card (without putting the back up back)
4-Try to enter bootloader (vol v-^ boot) [Your first & third problem may be solved here, proceed to next step]
5-Put a fresh Android folder, without using the old one and without using a back up .
6- Boot Android
a few questions :
What radio did you have ?
Did you flash recently a stock rom with HSPL on ?
Does this problem happen with a certain Android build or all builds ?
Feedback what happened.

you are right, thats summarized what are the problems that ive been facing now.
I always ran task29 before any installations of new ROM
I flashed various of official ROMs and cooked ROMs. None of them giving the result that I want. The battery still draining like hell and I cant access bootloader normally. I have to pull out everything for 15mins 1st, put it back, then I can access bootloader by holding up -vol. But still, it wont solve my battery issue.
I formatted my SD thru HP, thru PC (full format, not quick format), nothing happen at all. Still cant load Haret/Android. I left it for night long, stuck at HTC logo with black background.
To Answer your questions
various Radio(s) I've tried; .50,.51 including the newest one.
yes, I flash stock ROM with HSPL on when I encounter this problem
Its happen to all build, Winmo and Android.
phew, I still believe that I've taken necessary steps in order to get back my HD2 to perform at its normal condition.
Thanks, Please advise.

Maybe your HSPL is defected (Idk how would that happen)
But try to remove it, flash stock ROM 3.14, Don't HSPL, Try to run android, different build.
And never use 51 radio ! .. Always stick to 50 .. also what class your sd-card is ?
Because I've never read about your problem anywhere ..
Faris,

ive tried flash various HSPL from 1.42 till 2.08. still have same probs.
and i already tried 3.12 official rom, still batt prob and wont solve bootloader prob.
yeah, im on .50 radio now.
ive 2 SD cards, 8GB each, class 1 and class 2.
thanks.

How to flash from SD card ?

I know apparently this isnt the best way to flash your HD2, but im stuck without any access to windows. (mac user)
i cant seem to find step by step instructions on how to do this properly....
is there a link somewhere i can get to so i can figure this out? isnt it as simple as copying the custom.nbh file to the root of my memory card, and entering the bootloader screen?
Sorry for all the noob questions.
take ruu_signed.nbh, copy it to sdcard formatted fat32 (2gb cards seen to work best) rename it leoimg.nbh, boot to bootloader and it should detect the image and ask if you want to flash.
it still requires hspl, unless you have a goldcard(easier to borrow a pc for two minutes to apply hspl than make a goldcard)
the phones already been flashed with hspl.
i just want to change the rom!
Thanks for the tips im going to go for it right now

Hi
One advice you have to remember is DO NOT flash any official rom with this method. If you do it will replace the hspl and you will be stuck.
Good luck

True, flashing a stock rom via sd card will overwrite hspl with the new stock spl, but you will not necessarily be stuck. That used to be the case before hspl2, as the original hspl only worked with spl 1.42.0000. HSPL2 now works with 1.42.0000, 1.66.0000 or 2.08.0000 spl's.
or just throw your mac away and buy a PC
What many forget is that you actually need an SD card and not SDHC, as those will not work.
understand u already flash hspl,
microSD / microSDHC will work as long it is formatted with FAT32 fs.
just copy the *.nbh to SD root & rename it to LEOIMG.nbh.
enter bootloader, follow on-screen.
if bootloader cant find any rom image, run scandisk & try again.
gd luck.
I just flashed this rom.
It seemed to be fine. It installed and looked a-ok.
I had a look around and every thing looked as it should.
I added "26.4 column Start menu.cab" and now the phone won't reboot at all.
It gets to the HTC white screen, and then hangs.
Any ideas?
Is it a conflict between the 4 columns app and the ROM?

when you say "just flashed this rom", what rom?
also, did you read ALL the first few posts in the chefs thread? chances are it requires a specific radio version
either that or you didn't do a hard reset after you flashed.
apologies, I replied in here when I thought I was in the HTC Energy thread.
The device rebooted after the flash.
Does that not count as a hard reset?
samsamuel said:
Is it T Mobile usa? if so, then you have flashed an incompatible rom.
tmous (T Mo US) phones will opnly take roms based on 2.10, the rom you have installed is 1.66 (D 1. 66. Kumar)
Kumar has a rom in the Tmo US section based on 2.10, you should use that, not the one in teh normal hd2 section.
With power off, press and hold "volume down", tap the power key and continue to hold vol down until you get the three coloured screen, connect to usb, wait for word 'serial' to become 'usb' and flash a compatible rom.

I've just been digging through and saw this, I have the 3 colours and USB.
Gonna try and reflash and see what happens.

edit: re-flashing it went the same way, would hang on boot.
I've gona back to using:

I'll look and see what it is I missed that stopped the energy rom from working as advertised.
Try installing the recommended Radio

I ran into the same problem and all I had to do was to get the phone into Bootloader and then flash the radio recommended by ROM Cook.
also the same problem
I have also this problem, but I think it's in the rom, when I installed the rom, everything seems ok, but after a reset, the screenthat I get is the white HTC screen.
After a hard reset it is ok, but after a reset it is the same problem.
Then I thought, i take an older rom, but when I've installed the rom he is automatic installing the cab file's at the end of the installation, and he's going to automatic reset the HD2. After the reset I have the same problem as with the new rom.
So the biggest problem is that I can't install another rom or radio because the rom don't start for 100%, and when I do a hard reset, after the reset at the end of the installation I get the white HTC screen.
What can I do, can I fix this problem?

RTFM. These constant posts about white screen hangs are really getting frustrating. Does nobody follow the forum rules of searching any longer? There's nothing wrong with the rom, the user on the other hand I'm not so sure of.

If you bothered to read even just the last 5 pages of the Energy thread you would have seen probably 20 mentions of the problem. Energy rom won't work with a x.xx.51.xx radio.

This happened to me awhile back, it was caused by a corrupt download. But it could be numerous things. Do you have a T-mobile US HD2? What ROM did you flash?
It could also be caused by flashing a ROM not designed for your phone. Thats how a lot of people get bricks. A little more info would help.
yes sir i have a TMO USA phone and i tried to use of KUMARS TMOUS C5 Premium.
So do you think that if I just Flash the phone with a ROM that works this will fix it?

First, make sure it wasn't just the task29 that you performed
Second, go into bootloader and try flashing Kumar's C5 again using a different method (from sd or activesync).
Third, try formatting your sd card to FAT32 if you're flashing from it.
If none of that works you can just try a different ROM or even a stock shipped ROM.

Yeah that exact same thing happened to me awhile back. I guess it was caused by a corrupt download or something of that sort. All i did was go into bootloader and flashed a different ROM from the SD that i know for a fact works. After that, you will be fine.
Just use Mskip's guide
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. If you flash a v2.01 or later Rom (with SPL2.*) you will NOT be able to reinstall HardSPL onto your device and could end up bricking it. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.

yes first boot up it goes fine, i test it out by doin 3 resets prob after the 3rd one it stops working it stays on the bootscreen for ages, then il do more resets and some times it will go through but after 10sec of being done it will freeze and have to repeat until it works again. this happens even when everything is on STOCK ive done task 29 flash via sd card through everything...
Try this?

Did you try reformatting the SD card, or trying a different SD? I personally have never done a Task29 Via SD, not even sure of the process, though I do one via Active Sync before every flash. Sounds like a defect in hardware, if not the SD, then the phone. Hope the replacement solves your issues, else look closely at the SD card.
Ok so I am so confused, when I flash the phone am i supposed to leave the SD card in the phone? If I just went and bought a new SD card will this fix it. I flashed the phone with a ROM that works and it works for a few days and then freezes then I have to start all over. What do I do this sucks. Is anyone in the Austin texas area that can help me?

[Q] Booting Problem

Problem:
Won't boot into any ROM.
Phone Details at Start:
Telstra HD2, HSPL 2.08, Radio 2.15.50.14, magldr 1.12, Windows Phone 7
Description:
I was running Windows Phone 7 when it decided to crash and restart. However it got stuck in a restarting loop; restart then crash during loading which caused it to restart then crash, etc. Then magldr came up with 1EFATAL HIT 1.
I figured WP7 had somehow corrupted part of the install but nothing I can do seems to fix it.
I have tried:
-Reflashing it with WP7.
-Reflashing it with another WP7 build.
-Reflashing to magldr 1.13 then WP7 again.
But none of these worked so I tried to go for a NAND Android build. However I couldn't get the ClockWork Mod to work. It too failed to boot with the same problem as WP7. Now I just wanted to get the phone in a working state again so I have tried:
-Formatting the SD card
-Reflashing to a custom winmob6.5 build
-Reflashing to a custom winmob6.5 build I had previously used and worked fine
-Changing the Radio to 2.14.50.02 then reflash to a custom wm6.5
-Changing the Radio to 2.12.50.02_02 then reflashing to a custom wm6.5
When I try the custom wm6.5 rom I see the boot screen but it just sits there and goes no further. I have tried installing an old copy of the chunky rom (as it changed the boot screen ) but still just sits at the boot screen.
I have tried redownloading all of the files I'm flashing with in case there was a problem downloading it. Also I have tried using files I already had which were working, but nothing seems to have fixed it.
Some things I have noticed are:
-that all flashings have and still load without error
-that it doesn't have any problems loading into the HSPL
-when ever I tried an install with magldr usb flash (CWM or WP7) it would work but at the end of the flash it said it would restart but never did. I had to remove the battery
-loading into magldr I could select the restart or powerdown option but it would just hang and again I had to remove battery to turn it off
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to get it fixed? The only things have haven't tried are flashing with a stock rom or reflashing another HSPL. Both of those I though could cause trouble for the currently working HSPL, which if I lost would cause more problems. Currrently I am under the impression it is a hardware failure as no rom (mb6.5, WP7 or CWM) will boot and magldr installed fine but wasn't able to restart the phone.
Check your battery pins to see if they're in anyway bent. If they are, just push them back a little bit with your finger.
Have you tried Task29? I think the only other way would be to flash stock again and start over.

Yes, I have tried Task29 and then tried installing both magldr then CWM and wm6.5. It however didn't make a different as I still got the same error. Sorry, I forgot to mention this in initial post.
I have also read about the battery pins being bent. I haven't tried it but from what I can see mine are all about the same height and seem pretty straight. When I put in the battery they also seem to be pushed back a bit so I am assuming they are all making contact. I was a bit worried about over extending them but I might give it go if no other option becomes available.
I've seen several times people with a phone that seems to flash, but nothing actually changes.
The only way you can visually test this in your current state is to change spl to something different, and look in bootloader see if it changed, but you said you don't wanna, so.
You can try flashing HSPL 4 and select HSPL 3.03 and see if gbiz is sucessful. If you have HSPL 3.03 in bootloader then you know it is flashing and you can go back to HSPL 2.08. Also you can try flashing your stock Telstra ROM via USB cable and computer as this method will not change your HSPL 2.08 but flashing it via SD card will revert you back to SPL. I think flashing the stock ROM will be your best bet for now.
Well I originally had the energy boot screen and when I flashed to a copy of the chunky rom it changed to its one. I would have thought it was at least partly flashing. Also I have removed with magldr with task29 then reflashed (with magldr) and was able to boot into magldr. So I think the flashing is happening successfully.
I you think reflashing the HSPL could work then I'll give that a try. As I haven't done that yet. If that doesn't work I'll take a look at flashing the Telstra ROM. I know flashing a stock rom is mentioned as a solution but I wasn't sure why I would make the phone work any better than a custom rom with concerns to booting.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Just to cover all bases here, your HD2 is not getting really warm or warmer than usual is it? If so this is a sign of thermal breakdown, but like I said this is just to cover all bases here.
From what I can tell it hasn't been getting any hotter than usual.
Re:"why to use stock instead of custom"
Its because a stock rom flashes everything, spl, splashscreen, radio and rom.
Also, some customs use a secondary splashscreen, which would replace magldr, so if things aren't right, starting over by flashing your correct rom is often advised just to draw a line under the current attempts and start over.
Don't forget that even if the stock flash fails, if you did it from bootloader then Hspl is likely gone, and magldr too, possibly.
Just an update. I flash a Telstra ROM which to my surprise it booted... after a couple of tries. Decided to reboot it to see if it starting up was just luck which it turns out it was. I couldn't get it to start again then it refused to even get into the bootloader. So I am sure enough now that it is a hardware failure and am taking it in for warranty.
Thanks again for the help.

I assume (since about ten people per day ask exactly this) that you flashed magldr but magldr didn't start as expected? This is caused by (as I type half a dozen times a day) by not having 2.08.hspl AND a compatible radio.

hope this helps you a little more to solving my problem
and sorry i carnt post the link to the video yet as ive not done my 8 posts
ok, so its all fine so far, you just haven't yet done the next step, which is flash a compatible radio. (had you changed the radio after flashing hspl and before flashing magldr, magldr would have started straight away)
(I shall assume that you have a regular hd2, not a t mobile US model, since you haven't said, if it IS a tmous, then its a different problem)
download radio 2.15.50
enter bootloader
plug in usb
count to 5
run customruu to flash that radio
reboot
magldr should now start
thanks for your reply
ill go and find this radio now and keep you posted
thankyou
you rock dude
thank you so much for your time posting ,,
100% working andriod now
anything eles i should know please post
Lovely.
Only thing to know is that you shouldn't need to flash radio or magldr again now, if you want a different sized rom you may have to reflash cwm to change partition size, but if you ever have probs booting or whatever, nine times in ten someone will tell you to task29 and reflash stock and start over,,,, nine times in ten that's massive overkill.
Read read read is the best advice I can offer, see what issues others have and read the answer,, one day that issue might be yours, and you'll have a head start solving it. Never panic and start random flashing, that always ends badly, and means any help request posts are harder to work with.
thank for your reply
just a quick question for you
ive got a 16gb sd card in with about 300 app/games ,,and ive installed about 20 so far but now phone says memory full ,,should they be installing on sdcard instead of the phone memory
or is this normal for the phone memory to run out so fast
Depends on the rom, some leave 200+ free, some far far less. That's why most roms support an ext partition, which the phone treats as internal.
Backup your SD card (it will be wiped) start phone into cwm, then (I think its) advanced - format SD card, or something like that. Create a 1 or 2 gb ext partition, swap 0, and reflash the rom. C
The rest of the SD will be formatted to fat32 just like it is now.
It will detect the ext partition and use it as internal memory automatically. You should not choose the option to "move app to SD card", that will take the app off the ext partition and put it in the fat32 partition,, and some apps wont work from fat32.(angry birds for example)

[Q] Help me

Hi everybody!
I flashed WP7 for my HD2, but when installed, the fist time boot up HD2 only runs to gogogo is to restart itself. I removed the battery for about 5 minutes and restarted the WP7 again, but it's only runs about 15 minutes to restart itself and repeat the above error.
Any help?
Task29-Format Your SD Card -Install WM -Install Magldr-Do Two Wipe-Install WP7 Rom
Have Fun
Thanks for your reply.
I did as your guide, But the HD2 still fails as above
so did it work on WM (6.5) ok or not.
You must be missing a step somewhere
ahhynt branch
It Ok, I flashed WM 6.5 or Android, It work OK.
me too
Me too.
Please tell me when slove it,thanks.
so the first thing that comes to mind assuming you have had Android and WM6.5 working is the SD card.
The big difference is that WP7 needs a good working SD card in order to operate.
At the first install and boot it needs to see a clean formatted card ( FAT 32) or wont work.
Also directly after your WP 7 flash you have to hard reset the phone !!!
Are you sure you have the correct HSPL
Are you sure you have flashed the correct radio for the rom you are trying to flash.
Good luck
Hi!
I have replaced another memory card and flash the WP7, but it boot is very difficult, stop and reboot it in "go go go", I must remove the battery then re-start, and it runs very well. What's must I do?
check to Make sure your battery contacts are making proper contact with battery.

battery??? you don't need to install wm6.5 everytime you want install wp7. just task29...install magdlr...perform the necessary magdlr prep steps (10-services, 5-clear mbr, 4-uselast24nand)..then flash wp7.
also, if your sd was not usable...it would have at least booted and told you the sd was bad. but make sure you do the magdlr prep steps before flashing wp7.
as for the battery, he's saying that sometimes the middle battery contact has a tendency to be out of place...check your contacts are all in correct position.
