[Q] SetCPU on Mytouch 4G - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does SetCPU work on the Mytouch 4G right now? Or does it need a custom kernel?

I use it fine to set profiles and all...but you can't go any higher than stock speed yet

Would de-clocking it improve battery live at all? The MT4G is uber fast right out of the box, and I could probably live without a couple hundred MHz.

OK I can say now, SetCPU not completely working on my MT4G
Scale doesn't work. If I set min at 768 and max 1024, it will still bounce between 245 Mhz and 1024.
If I de-clock to 768 as max, it still goes to 1024 Mhz
I was wondering why my ScreenOff max 245Mhz profile is not improving my battery life....well, that't why.

Thanks
i think mine idles at 245 MHz
thats stock and i havnt changed any setting with the setcpu app

Clock speed for mytouch...

Whats the best clock speed for the mytouch le/1.2...I have mines set at 245 min and 614 max and my phone heats up to around 100f...I need performance but need the phone not to heat up.
I have the MyTouch 3g 1.2 and I'm using setCPU overclock (215 min - 615 max 'ondemand'. My device has never reached 100f. What are you using to overclock?

you have a larger copy of the attached pic? how long have you been running it and how stable has it been? which ROM are you running it on?

Kind of a pointless new thread. What is your score? Picture is too small.
I use the tester at 844mhz min and 844mhz max screen on and 245mhz screen off and get 11.592

did you change any of the other settings like he did? do ya have "set on boot" checked or unchecked? how stable is it? I can only be mildly adventurous due to my phone being the only way I can get online when I'm in my 18-wheeler
Some other forum members seem to have reboot and lockup issues with 844mhz but I don't. For a long trip I would keep it at 806mhz if you're unsure and it's untested. Not every phone is the same.
I use the Overclock Widget and set it to:
Auto Start on boot - No
Screen on Min, Max 844
Screen off Min, Max 245
Differ Freq Screen Off - Yes

Set CPU Settings

I was wondering what would be considered optimal settings for SetCpu. I amn running BaconBits and am not sure how I should do the settings.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
i have mine set at:
Profile 1 : 806 MHz max, 245MHz min, On Demand, priority 50
Profile 2 : 245 MHz max , 245MHz min, On Demand, for when the screen is off, priority 50
if i change the MHz, i change it higher on profile 1 for whatever i need it for then i just scale it back down to 806 when i am done...
Mines pretty much the same as the one above save for max clock speed being 1500Mhz.

I have my scaling set ondemand, have setcpu set at boot, with 1497 max and 245 min, with profiles for various states of the phone.
My profiles:
Screen off: 245 max, 245 min - Priority=100
Battery temp >104: 806 max, 245 min - Priority=90
Battery <10: 245 max, 245 min - Priority=80
Battery <20: 368 max, 245 min - Priority=70
Battery <30: 768 max, 245 min - Priority=60
Charging/Full: 1497 max, 245 min - Priority=50
I get well over a day of use, even with moderate-heavy usage, even with my overclocking on Evil's Sense ROM.
If you search google for an "overclocking 101" thread you should find a rather large ongoing break down of setcpu and the most efficient way to use it. I believe its on one of the droid forums, awesome info.

By all means, have at it!
Main profile: 245 - 1017 on demand
Charging/Full: 1017 - 1017 performance 90 priority
Screen Off: 245 - 245 performance; mainly as this mode will bypass the need to poll/sample for CPU speeds, thus reduces some CPU load. 100 priority
Battery < 20%: 245 - 768 on demand 75 priority
i decided to put the SetCPU widget on my homescreen last night so i could see if the profiles were actually changing as my battery ran lower... and my phone got reaaaalllly sluggish to the point where i would have to wait a few seconds for it to flip back and forth between screens... i deleted the widget thinking that might have caused it, but it was still laggy... so i unclicked on the profiles for battery and got it back to 806MHz and it was fine again...
im guessing that it supposed to slow down the phone when the CPU drops below 806MHz but i didnt think it would be that bad... anyone else experiance this?

What are the profiles you are using? The ones you copied shouldn't have run into any conflicts... except when you're under 20% battery where the CPU is throttled under 368.
What is your powersave bias?
Speaking of powersave bias, could anyone tell me some optimal settings for the setCPU advanced tab? Don't mean to derail this thread, I've just never used that tab.

I believe i was right at 20% batt or right below,so that could have been the issue... I havent messed with anything on the advanced tab as i dont know much about it, the powersave bias is still set to 0

does anyone else feel that their battery lasts longer without using setcpu at all? I mean I love what setcpu can do but in terms of power efficiency, even without overclocking, for some reason I feel like my battery last longer without it.... or am I just crazy?

I used to get about a whole day without setcpu. With setcpu, same amount of usage, I get well over a day and a half before having to charge it up.

Overclock Min and Max

I haven't found one of these, so I'll make a new thread.
Just post your Minimum and Maximum CPU settings.
Min: 245 MHz
Max: 787 MHz
I usually don't overclock, but I found 245-806MHz to work best for me. If I up the frequency any further than 806MHz it starts to crash from time to time. But I heard of people who managed to get it to 900MHz without problems, though I doubt their battery life is any good
IMHO, overclock gets You only better benchmark scores, but in apps and games it performs very nice even without overclock. GT540 is a budget phone, so it got only 167MB RAM and that is the main bottleneck.
320-787 is best for me.
HI
my max freq. is 806 and if i try 900 the phone go in crash.
245-806mhz
245-672 don't need much more realy
245-600Mhz but sometimes (when I for example run benchmark ;d) I change max frequency to 825 (max for my procesor, more=reboots )

What ever you do , dont get the urge to smack it up to the higest setting, it will cause the phone to shut down and reboot , and you get about 4seconds past the boot screen before it shuts down again.
i did that i it stressed me out alot managed to fix it tho.
i found having it at 806 or 845 was good and stable on CM6 2.2.1
Mines between 245-787mhz, with profiles for screen off and low battery!

i use 245-852 most of the time i can push to 870 but my battery drains in about a day
mur4iks cm7 m4 but i use setcpu instead of the inbuilt cpu scaler
Min: 245 MHz
Max: 600 MHz
I use 122-880MHz with Mur4ik's M4 & joestone's & it works great
I now use 245MHz and 806MHz, since I go to school in the morning and come back in the afternoon, I don't need as much battery. Although, my battery drains if I make the settings to high, and I'm also always worrying if it'll crash etc.. So I just set it at the default minimum, and the common maximum ( other than 825 MHz)
After upgrading to M4, battery is better, and maximum brightness with the overclocking settings above hasn't hit red battery yet. Yipee!
Note: I only charge it at night.
with M4 you can set to 122 to 806 without any problems - this will help you saving more battery, but you have to try if it suits to you

I actually keep mine on 245 and 600mhz , I don't really need much power through the day because I can only use a GPRS connection which runs at about 4.4kbps (very slow!) which puts me off LOL
I'M using 245-787
but it become hotter when i playing games
I've been using a max around 846, with no problems. I haven't figured out what the best lowest setting is. I'll have to add a screen off and boot setting, good idea.
