I've tried fixing this and searching a lot of forums. My calendar is playing a sound out of my music library for a notification sound. Problem is that its three minutes long so if I leave my phone somewhere when the alarm rings, its annoying to folks.
I've gone to settings/sound and thats fine. I've gone to calendar/settings/reminder/ringtone and set it to something like teleport, and then tested it by putting an appointment in and it gives me the new ringtone. But everytime I get an appointment synched from Exchange, it deletes this selection and uses the song from my library. The song is NOT shown as a selection in the menu, nothing is shown as selected after I get this notification sound.
I remember noodling around some months ago and finding some way to set custom ringtones for various notifications. I probably selected a/this song for calendar then changed it back, but saved the setting somehow in Titanium, now when I do a restore, I get it back. I've tried rebuilding my data.img completely this way, and still have it. I'm not using ringdroid or ringext or anything like that. I haven't copied this song over into the media folder.
This is driving me crazy! Any ideas?
Slight update, deleted the song and now Calendar uses the default notification sound in Settings/Sounds... But it still removes the selection under Calendar/settings/reminders/ringtone...

Hi guys...
i've been experiencing a few software problems on the phone. can you check this out for me...
I have all my sounds set to different ring tones.. ie. phone ring is dog bark. reminder is alarm 3. new message is something else..etc.
Everything remains fine... until a reminder goes off for an appointment
Whenever i make an appointmentwith a reminder and it then goes off, it plays the pre-installed default sound instead of the one i've chosen. What it also does...is it then resets ALL of my sound settings including my phone ring, my new SMS sent, my wake up alarms to the original default sounds. WTF?
After 7 hours of trying different things..I've narrowed it down to the reminders. so.. no reminders = i keep my sound settings...and i can't stand the preset bank of sounds the TYTN came with. grr.
Can you verify that for me please? is it a software bug? I'm in montreal this week getting married (YAY) and so i'm going to be away from my machine and cant afford to do a hard reset and lose all my contacts).
Thanks In Advance
Cheers.

PS.
Also, anyway to set all sounds to go to the storage/my documents/my music folder instead of the internal windows "ring" folder? i'd love to know how to edit this in the registry (i'm sure it can be done), and use this folder for all my reminder/alarm/msg/ring sounds...Its just I have no experience in hacking the registry or know where to begin looking.
thanks
Hi i cannot set custom ringtones for my contacts on mts. I come from a g1 had all my contacts on google and everything sync ok with my contacts i just cannot set custom ringtones. I am using mp3's for the music and ringdroid to cut the songs. One song has worked and that was only to set my default ringtone
it took me a while to figure this out, i also came from the G1. all you have to do is go to contacts, just touch the name you want to change the ring tone for(not long press) and scroll down and you should see the option of ring tone in there
Yeah, strangely enough it is not an option while "editing" a contact. Yet only when "viewing" contact details. Strange.

a way of setting tones for multi contacts
I found while browsing my sd card with Astro file manager that if I started playing the song and paused it, then hit the menu key it would come with "set as ringtone" touching that would bring up choices of Phone ringtone, Contact ringtone and Notification sound. selecting contact lets you assign multiple contacts at once. just remember to hit save in the lower left corner of the screen before exiting... wife was getting irritated because "it wasn't working after many tries" because she didn't see the save button

thanks for the info...one issue i hope you can help with tho: once you have changed the contact's ringtone, does it stay changed or does it revert back to the default ringtone at some point? also, what is the speed of the sd card you are using? i ask bc lots of people have issues with the phone not doing ringtones properly. some say its the speed of the sdcard and some also say you have to create ringtone/notifications folders (via astro or some other file explorer) and place your sounds in there. i know on my mytouch3g with stock sd card (speed 2), individual ringtones never worked properly. only custom notifications and phone ringtone worked...
The other day I updated my fascinate to the EBO1 modem and froyo rom. Everything seemed to go fine and everything runs fine except my sms tone. It always plays, without fail, a the same random song in my music folder (not one in the notifications folder and it has never been used as a ringtone). No matter what I change it to in the sound settings it still plays that song.
I then changed the name of the song it plays and then it stopped playing it as a notification but it still doesn't allow me to change it off of that song. I checked my contact settings too. Everyone is set to the default ringtone overall and none are in any group.
Is there some other way to change the sms tone other than settings > sound settings > notification ringtone ?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Have you tried to change the settings within the app itself? Open mms menu/settings/notification settings.
good day.
That was it! Didn't even think to look their -_-
Strange thing was though, when I opened it up it was set to a android default sound and not set to that random song.
After the last official update something weird started happening to my phone. After random periods of time (1 - 5 days) all my ringtones and notifications sounds for all the applications seem to change by themselves.
Gmail will have no sound selected, Gtalk will pick one random MP3 file from my music folder, alarms will get the "Beep" sound, SMS/reminders will get a different (default?) sound, contacts that had custom ringtones will get the default ringtone, and the default ringtone for all contacts is changed too.
It's a little annoying, I can set everything back the way it was quite fast, but something else happens: for a few contacts only (random each time) I cannot change the ringtone anymore. The default one is set, I choose another one, but the new ringtone isn't applied. The only way to change the ringtone is to erase the contact and create it again (or sync from outlook to have it back).
Anyone else got this problem? I guess a hard reset will solve it, but I'm too lazy to install everything again etc.
I still have this problem. From time to time, all my notification shouds (alarm, message, ringtone, custom ringtones, everything) will change to random mp3s from my alarm/notification/ringtone or music folder.
It's not related to USB cable / SD mass storage mounting, I rarely use that. It usually happens in the background while I'm not even using the phone. Suddenly, it will e.g. start playing a whole mp3 track from may music folder when I receive an email.
Anyone else getting this stupid issue? I found a lot of people complaining in other threads and other forums, but no solution. I hate having to set my custom tones again and again...
HTC Desire HD too
My HTC Desire HD is also playing random mp3s with notifications. Not mail, that remains the same. But calendar and SMS all play mp3s. I can't seem to fix it. The notification settings still say it's meant to be playing a standard ringtone, but nope, mp3 it is.
Anyone figured out a fix?
I don't know if it helps, but I renamed my "Music" folder (that's where I had all .mp3 files that would randomly become ringtones) to something else and also removed the HTC Music widget from homescreen. Sometimes the ringtones will revert to HTC default and stay that way after I connect to USB mass storage / disconnect, but a phone reset will solve that.
Hi,
I'm having the following issue with miniCM6 release 1.0.0 and I also had it with lizypen's stable 2.2.1 ROM (based on miniCM also):
The default ringtone for notifications is a horrible sound called 'Terrible Twos'. I have tried to change it in Settings -> Sound -> Notification ringtone and apparently the ringtone is changed, however whenever a new notification comes in (e-mail, SMS, aynthing) the Terrible Twos sound pops up again and no ringtone appears selected in Settings. I use Handcent SMS, that allows to 'test' the notification settings and when I test it the behavior is normal (i.e. the ringtone that I selected appears as the default) but when an actual SMS comes in the Terrible Twos sounds again.
So what I had to do is to manually set a notification ringtone in every application that generates notification (SMS, GMail, the 'other' e-mail, Calengoo, etc. etc.), thus overriding the default. However this is no solution for me, because sometimes I discover a new application that generates notifications and I have to go and set it again. And there is the FM radio, that generates a notification whenever a new favourite station is set and that notification ringtone cannot be set so is always the system default
Is there something wrong with my phone or somebody else has noted this too?
Regards
Bump!!
Am I alone with this little but annoying problem?
once i have that problem my solution was use root explorer and copy my own music on sdcard/media/audio/notifications and then i was able to select my songs form settings and notifications
Or may be getting rid of that ringtone via root explorer may help. No experience, but just a thought!
Thanks a lot gabo_10!
Apparently the system default ringtone has to reside in the memory card to work properly.
karefri, I haven't tried deleting it, because I don't know where it is! There is no 'Terrible Twos' in /system/media/audio, where all ringtones are.
Regards
Well, I moved my preferred notification sound to the sd card but the problem persisted...
HOWEVER, I switched to Elelinux and the problem is gone! It's a very nice ROM!
