[Q] Original cellular south rom - Android Software Development

So... stupid me decided it would be nice to take my brand new cellular south desire and root it and put froyo on it... well if didn't backup the original rom and now have a cracker screen. Does anyone out there have the original 2.1 rom I can replace so I can send it off this service.

go to the CS website, then go to the discover center.
click on the HTC Hero page, there is a 2.1 downloadable update.
download that on ur comp, then run it on your desire.
this should work. (no promises tho)

1.6 ???

Hi all, i just wanted to know how a guy at work has the same phone as me on orange and has not updated any roms etc and has firmware 1.6 on his ??? as well as a new market place app ???
He said he got a over the air update ??? (what the hell is this)
ive looked at the htc web and orange but the only rom to download is the one i have , have tried generic but get the customer id error
any ideas on how to update my phone to orange 1.6 firmware would be great my phone details are as follows
thanks in advance, chris
Your sig says "Firmware: 1.6" yet you want to upgrade to 1.6? Am I missing something?
My mistake it should say 1.5 on my signature just edited it now
I don't know where his phone and firmware came from, but there is no *official* 1.6 (Donut) firmware for the Hero.
HTC are going to provide an update to the Hero, but it is going straight from 1.5 to 2.1, skipping 1.6 and 2.0.
Regards,
Dave
Ok thanks Dave are there any details on when that will be ??? And what is over the air update ???

The clue is in the words.
1. Update
2. Over the air.
An 'update' that is delivered 'over the air'.
Phew
An OTA update is one that is automatically sent to your phone via your service provider. Depending on how you phone is set, this may be automatically installed and activated or you may get a prompt asking you if you want it.
Go to Home/Settings/Security/Firmware download to find this setting.
i have htc followed in twitter, and about a month ago (i think) htc tweeted that a certain company would be sending over the air updates.. so anyone who bought a hero from them would recieve the update as long as they had service..
it probably is 1.5, but they called it 1.6 because they no it wont interfere since htc will be skipping 1.6, and also it allowed customers to check and see if they got the update ( if they left it 1.5, customers would be like.. "did i get it!?"

No HD2 Rom Upgrade With T-mobile

Hi,
I have just bought a HTC HD2 from T-mobile to realise I can't upgrade the ROM through the official HTC website.
I would like to know from Virgin Costumers whether they have tried to upgrade the ROM of their HTC HD2 through the Official HTC website and whether it worked.
I am asking this because I am still on the trial period and also because of warranty issues if I try to upgrade trough another route apart from the T-mobile's...
So, the question is...
Have you got a HTC HD2 from virgin? Have you upgrade the ROM through the HTC website?
If it's vendor locked you'll need to flash HSPL to install a stock or custom ROM...see this thread for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
If I do install another ROM they say I loose the warranty...
As I still am in the trial period I could just return the mobile. But for this I need to know whether the HTC HD2 from virging is also branded or not... So I can go and get one from them and do the upgrades myself through HTC website... Withought loosing any warranty.
You can revert back to the original SPL/ROM if you need to return it for any reason...
As for the Virgin HD2, only way is putting the S/N into the ROM download page on HTCs support site and see if it allows a download. If not, it's locked
There's at least a dozen of threads about it. Don't be lazy and use search!
You won't loose the warranty, you can flash the phone back to it's original state in case you need to send it back for repairs.
You can download the original T-Mobile ROM from in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 so you can always go back if you need warranty work! I was reluctant to flash, but I did it from the original T-Mobile ROM and it has transfromed my HD2... I'm using MIRI 6.5 ROM and it is awesome, fast, stable, more RAM (with the right radio) and best of all, Youtube... GO ahead and do it. You think the HD2 is good now, wait until you unleash some of it's real potential....
Yes, that is why I am asking if there is someone who is a virgin costumer to help me with this...
I need to know if they have tried and what the outcome was.
About the warranty... The problem is that if I upgrade to another ROM and the mobile has a hardware fault that doesn't allow me to downgrade to the original ROM I suppose I would loose the warranty. This is a risk I may not want to take...
I have been talking to the tmobile technical people a lot after I realised I couldn't upgrade to a new ROM via HTC... Very annoying to know it is not possible whatsoever.
and as proof, I flashed mine back to the original ROM earlier this week. Search the ROM forum for posts by a member called 'football' who posted links to the TMo UK ROMs.
The flash back to the original ROM worked just fine, BUT it's a rubbish ROM so I'm back on 1.66
lol @ everyone pushing for the HSPL option, , , , lets not forget you cant uninstal HSPL if, for instance, the sd card reader has failed, , how would you get that fixed on warranty??
I'm not knocking it, HSPL is the first thing i did, just pointing out that restoring the warranty isn't foolproof.
in this post here a virgin user claims the phone is unlocked to the HTC website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632892
I didn't want to cause such turmoil...
Just want to know, from a Virgin customer, if they have managed to install the ROM update through the HTC website... if when they add their mobile serial number they are given the download option or they are barred with this message: "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
Thanks guys for the help
My son is on Virgin and his is unlocked out of the box I'am on T-Mobile (locked ) ) I am still deciding whether to update to one of the new roms on xda del. or hang out for an official rom from T-Mobile. Which I believe will be released soon with a big?????.

I had a flash fail this week. When I started the phone it booted to a black screen with some sort of warning triangle. Somehow HSPL had been removed in the botched flash and the SPL was back to 1.42.000, so putting a LEOIMG.nbh on my SD card just resulted in a 'Not Allowed' message being displayed.
However, I was still able to reflash the original TMo ROM from my PC via USB using the exe that you can find on the ROM forum. I would expect that this will only work with the exe for a ROM issued by your network though, so make sure you have that saved before you flash anything.

No doubt you flashed an official rom from the sd card, that is the only way HSPL can be removed. I really really advise people against using sd card for anything except your phones original rom. So easy to make an error.
Virgin UK HD2 is unlocked
I am a Virgin UK customer and my HD2 is indeed unlocked. When I first boot I had to select Virgin Mobile from a long list that included all the major carriers. I have no problems in updating ROMS. Their customer support is without doubt the best I have ever experienced. I do not work for them. My brother is with T-Mobile, his phone is locked down with Crap software. I am SOOOO glad I am not with them. Just check their forums. They are still on ROM 1.43 from october... no YouTube... other stuff missing and buggy... Disgrace.
Original poster: if you want the phone on contract from T-Mobile but unbranded, you could buy it through some third-party mobile-phone store chain like Car Phone Warehouse or Mobile Phones Direct. Their phones are all unbranded.
If you want to install the HTC ROM without using HSPL you could always use a gold card to flash it.

I must agree with the above. I am with T-Mobile, got my HD2 at the end of January and it had ROM 1.43. They also stripped out YouTube and Co-Pilot! I downloaded a poor-man's version of YouTube as discussed in other threads (i.e. using the IE browser on the phone to download the cab file) and thought I was cool, but with T-Mobile taking an age to release the update ROM (I have heard March, but I wouldn't hold my breath!) I decided to use HSPL and update to 1.66 from the HTC website. Best decision I made!
Not only are all the little bugs fixed, I know have the 'proper' YouTube app back (beautiful!), Co-Pilot (trial version) plus a Windows Task Manager app (very useful!).
I did alot of reading before taking the plunge though, and made backups of backups, had a roll-back plan (admittedly untested) and followed each stage implicitly! But it was very striaghtforward due to the guys on this forum doing a fantastic job!
I never made one call on my T-Mobile HD2 before I flashed over to stock HTC ROM.
Years of HTC devices and operators ROMS told me not to wait until later!

I did exactly the same!
As soon as I turned it on and saw that horrid T-Mobile logo, I turned it off again and flashed it with the HTC WWE Rom

Official Android 2.1 is Finally there!

From HTC's official plurk - www dot plurk dot com / htchero
It said the software will be published OTA from 4 June (of course, GMT+8)
For all we know that account could have been made by anyone??
I do hope it's true... but I am a real sceptic and pessimist and most of all a realist...
We'll see.

"We will start on June 4 to provide upgrades to 2.73.751.13..."
Um.. sorry if this is a dumb question, but my Hero's version is 2.73.405.5 and that's the latest ROM Version according to htc.com/europe/
so.. is that version getting the update or is it just the 2.73.751.13 the Taiwanese version and 2.73.405.5 the European one and both are practically the same?
Hooraaay for 2.1 (party)
Update consists of series of binary patches, so probably it won't apply to anything but 2.73.751.13

It upgrades to (Android 2.1 3.31.751.1) from 2.73.751.13 OTA.
It's doubtful you'll be able to use the image as is from another ROM. But rooted users should be able to use a repacked version with no problem. It comes with a new radio, so care would have be taken to make sure there is no funkiness with current engineering SPLs.
now just need patient to wait for cooked rom
hi. im newbie and haven't root my hero. my hero is firmware singapore version.2.73.707.9 can i upgrade my
hero with this? or i should wait for south east asia version roll out? thanks.
sorry for.noob question...
sorry to say that you must have a taiwan version phone to update
First update to 2.73 will probably include some patches for the OTA client.
Not wanting to put a downer in this but haven't htc always told us we'll see a small ota update before the offical update to 2.1.
This sounds like it's taking them direct to 2.1
Well in Europe it looks like we have currently to wait, but there are another News about the OTA-UPdate on the European Site for Legend and Bravo :

Hi , this is my first post im new here, Ive got 2 Heros coming from the UK, one is unlocked but the other is on T-mobile, both are running 1.5 android
Can someone point out to me the steps involved to Root both these devices and transfer a Custom htc hero 2.1 android Firmware to them......
Im used to flashing nokias and iphones but this android is totally new to me so i want to do it properly.
Thanks for any help or links to the things i need and topics on this
P.s Or do people recormmend just updating though HTC Site ? ( although i wud want 2.2 on these when ever that becomes avail ) hehe

Its about time this update came out. I don't see why the Droid Eris got the update months ago yet the GSM Hero has take so much longer. This is the reason I sold my Hero and got a Desire.

G2 Touch Hero - Help needed re. android & 3 network

Hi,
I have the G2 Touch hero on t-mobile. It has been unlocked. It currently shows as ROM version 2.73.405.5, Android 1.5.
I want to start using on 3 Network, I have their internet / phone / text package.
I'm very new to this, so please can someone help me and point me in the right direction, as I would like to know the following;
1. How do I upgrade to android 2.1.
2. How do I get the 3 portal stuff to be on the phone when I switch on each time, as I would if it was a 3 phone. In other words switch on as on 3, not t-mobile.
Many thanks for your help.
Use BTDAGs guide linked in my signature to find out how to install custom ROMs.
As yet there are no 3 customised 2.1 ROMs.
You can get the 3UK customised 1.5 ROM in update.zip format from here...
MoDaCo'S Stock ROMs + radios in update.zip format for GSM Hero
Or just use any custom 2.1 ROM and search "3 uk skype apk" and "3 uk MSN apk" for those two apps,... not sure if there are others you may want/need?
Hi ddotpatel,
If I don't use a custom rom, because I find it difficult to do, can I just get an "official" 2.1 upgrade for the phone via t-mobile or 3 network. Which would I need, as its a t-mobile phone, with a 3 sim?
Thank you,

Now Im not 100% on this.. but would the t-mobile phone not tell the update server it needs the t-mobile update regardless of the sim thats in it?
.. for example.. Ive got an unbranded hero.. with an orange sim.. but I got the unbranded update pushed through to me.

Indeed that sounds about right to me,....
There are no UK branded TMobile or 3UK 2.1 ROMs yet, they always take longer to be released. If you dont want to use custom ROMs, and are happy to NOT have root access, you can run the official RUU .exe filefor 3UK from [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links . This will install android 1.5 (3UK customised) and have your phone set up for updates.
WARNING,.... You might not be able to use custom ROMs ever again once updated to official 2.1.

Reverting HTC HERO back to stock

Hello,
I have the HTC HERO from when it first came out. I used it for like a year and I put CyanogenMod on it etc. I then bought a Epic 4G and I just saved the hero. Turns out my wife just broke her phone and we cant buy a new one now so I just wanted to put my Hero on her line. I called Sprint, gave them the DEC number etc. However since what I have on the Hero now is Cyanogenmod i cant do a Profile Update etc, so the phone doesnt work.
I just want to revert back the Hero to stock ROM, my wife doesnt care for any custom mods etc.
So I go to HTC website to download the ROM and when i go to Support, theres two things to choose, either:
1) Hero
2) Hero (Android 2.1)
If I choose just "Hero" then there is a ROM available to download, however, before I can download, I need to put the serial number, and after I do so, it says I cannot download said ROM for that serial. And if I choose "Hero (Android 2.1)" then theres no such ROM available to download.
I also searched around and found the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
which contains the untouched stock ROMS etc, however all the links given are for GSM phones, but mines Sprint (CDMA) and then on the bottom where it says that the CDMA links will be, theres just nothing...
Im at a loss on what to do. Its really frustrating. I just want the phone back to stock so my wife can use it.
Any help?
try this.
Or, if it doesn't work, there's a newer version here.
