when i slide it apart the light disaperes from the screen. there is still something on the display and it turns the display for landscape, but the light is gone, any ideas ???
software or hardware fault??
Did anybody got a idea to switch the Keyboard illumination separately off.
During specially ambient light conditions the keyboard layout comes unreadable.
Thanks Ingo
on my device, the KB lights are automatically turned on if the light is not enough, it's using the light sensor (same for LCD brightness).
Same, when the light is very poor the light sensor triggers the keyboard lights to turn on

One thing I have been very pleased with on my Xperia is the sensitivity and success rate of the automatic light sensing.
Every phone I have had in the past 5 or so years has had this sort of thing (incuding almost every N series device from Nokia and an iPhone and non even came close to switching as correctly (at the right time) and as quickly as this does.
I have not once yet found myself having a problem with seeing the screen or Keyboard.

Backlight issue
I've discovered from just using my 8525 that the backlight to the keyboard goes on when I first press a key on the keyboard but only if the light in the room is very low. Sometimes it seems like the light level in the room is low enough but the backlight still doesn't go on. Too bad there isn't a low-light level adjustment for the backlight feature.
Just so folk know - it is possible to set it up so when you open the keyboard it lights up regardless of the light level and key presses. Right now I can't remember how!! but I set mine up that way ages ago. Does use more battery power however so it is not necessarily a good thing - but looks pretty.

Is there any way you can assign the quick key buttons on the G2's physical keyboard to mimic the actions of the capacitive buttons on the front? Mostly looking to hit home and back. I guess for home i could assign it to a 3rd party launcher right? what about back?
Would love to know as well.
I tried this as well. It's weird how the different versions of this phone have totally different keyboards. Verizon has no trackpad, arrow keys instead, euro Desire Z has home and back on the physical keyboard, etc.
What's odd is that the capacitive buttons behave erratically - just like the Nexus One. In other words, backlighting is flaky, they are hard to see in low light conditions, randomly come on and turn off, etc.
I'd be happy with a fix that turns them on when the backlight is on....

The capacitive buttons and keyboard backlight seem to be activated by the ambient light sensor. Try turning the phone towards a source of light and wait a few seconds, the lights should turn off. The opposite should happen if you point your phone away from a light source. It's slightly annoying how long it takes to register the amount of light... but I don't think it's that bad.
Hi!
When i watch movies on my atrix (usually at night) i feel very bad about the light coming from the function keys!
Is there any way to unable it?
I've tried a lot of players, but no one has this feature.
Also, I noticed that with direct external light on the screen, keys do not light!
Any solution?
