animated flip clock from desire hd? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

one of my favorite features from all of the abandoned desire hd builds was the animated flip clock. i see some devs have ported it to the incredible and evo but they all need to be flashed via a custom recovery image. is there any way to port this feature to any of our existing sense android builds for the hd2?

+1 to that, as i really love MDJ's evo build and i am not willing to change to cameraless HD builds

BUMP No one ???

Try Fancy Widget from the Market

i've tried fancy widget. the clock is similar to the htc flipclock but unfortunately it doesn't actually perform the flip motion.

HTC Sense with fly-in effect build

Hi,honestly, I'm a HTC sense lover, however due to the animation of sense, i switched to Launcher pro...and HTC sense just feels like WINMO most of the time...Is it possible to make HTC sense got the fly-in effect when quitting or enter an application?

erm...Do you use Launcher pro or iphone before?it's the effect of the screen fade in/out animation when we enter or quit an application...i think it's pretty cool,if we can put this feature into HTC sense...
You cant get it without having another launcher.

Hi,just tried spare part from the market...but it doesn't work on my froyostone build.Anyway, thanks a lot, get to know one new app...switched back to launcher pro...
Try ADW.Launcher, it has the fly in effect when opening and closing the app drawer. It is also much more flexible on the desktop grid layout.

[Q] sense on nonsense

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the dififference between sense and non sense builds? I'm not asking which is better. I've read more than enough opinions on that. I'm just wondering what the main differences are. I know that sense has some widgets that I like, like friendstream and the clock, but what else is there to this sense?

Quoting someone smarter than me: Sense builds are based on HTC Sense, they're a lot more compatible with our little babies and have some good eyecandy, but are kinda large and slugish for the taste of some ppl, in the other hand, CM or any other non sense builds are based on open source projects, they are less stable (but deff not worthless to give them a try) they are lighter and faster, specially Cyanogen Mod builds. My two cents: give them both (sense no sense) a try and stick it with the one u like more! But remember not only sense makes a diff, kernels, radios, and even installation alternatives (RAM, SD, NAND) make a huge diff...
I would search around youtube and look at the htc desire or evo videos as well as stock android. That will give you a good idea of the differences at least visually of how they are different.

I do not like the color bars Android "smooth "
The colors of the bars can be customized like the sense? And if yes, how?
Many thanks in advance.
(PS: now use on my HD2 the build SuperRAM_FroYo_V1.5 )

Android Builds can be themed.
All of them.
You have to replace images in system-res.apk... (plenty of instructions around)
Sense however, already has a custom HTC theme (or more themes - if you think of newSense phones) and has some system apps replaced with HTC versions.
(Different Launcher + Scrollable Widgets, Different Facebook,Twitter,Contacts,Phone, camera etc... apps)...
It's pretty much like stock winmo 6.5 versus the sense version.
Sense looks pretty and has some additional useful features.
(like green glowing taskbar when in a call)
There are also other Android versions, for example MIUI, motorolas motoUI and samsungs TouchWiz... (and dell and lg and and and...)
I love Cyanogenmod, I love MIUI and I love Sense... I Might like TouchWiz aswell - but there are no ports avaliable for our phones

You dont need a port, TouchWiz is simply a launcher and you can have it by installing a apk, there is a link on forum ir you search

Have you ever tried any samsung-android phone?
It's not just the launcher.
Its a different dialer etc.
also in the taskbar you have a power widget like in cyanogenmod...
and if you slide your finger over the notification bar, you can set your screen brightnes...

what u mean is the framework of android, and yes it can be themed BUT only on Deodexed builds...

HTC Sense on Atrix?

I just upgraded to an Inspire. The main reason I did is because of HTC Sense. I love the look and feel of it and don't like using any other kind of UI on my phone. However, I also love having the best there is...so here is my question.
Is it possible to get HTC Sense onto the Atrix with just a root? Or will a cracked bootloader the key to doing that?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
A locked bootloader would likely not prove to be a problem, but the porting of the framework would almost certainly be very difficult since Sense cannot function without the full custom HTC framework.
Okay. Well I guess I should look and see if there any Sense ports to Motorola devices then. Would the port have to be device-specific? Or would a port to an older Motorola device work just as well?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
to get sense running on a non-HTC device, you would need a custom kernel (which a locked bootloader won't allow) with a custom bootclasspath in init.rc. you would also need to bring over all the HTC Sense framework with modified binaries to support your platform (android hardware legacy binaries) and modify egl.cfg to support the GPU in the phone. after that, there's of course other hardware lib's that would need to be modified to get GPS and bluetooth working (usually through more hex hacking) and, last but not least, decompiling and recompiling the sense framework to interface properly with the RIL.
so basically you'd have to overcome a (potentially/likely) locked bootloader and troubleshoot constantly to figure out what's wrong with each piece of hardware in the device (feasible, but long and frustrating). there are several devices out there that aren't intended to run Sense that do (the OG droid/milestone being one), and the process is long and complicated. jamezelle (who ported Sense to the droid/milestone) helped us ATTEMPT to port it to the SGS devices (myself and rafyvitto on the Captivate) and it ended up being more than either of us could handle and died.
That sounds like a complete pain in the a** lol. At least you gave it a shot. That's a lot more than I would be capable of doing. But oh well then...I guess I will have to wait for an HTC device with a dual or quad core chip and in the mean time, I can have a blast with my Inspire. Thank you both for your quick feedback.

what exactly do you want from sense? you can mimic a bunch of it with other launchers and widgets. Launcher pro has a bunch of sense like widgets, and Beautiful Widgets will give you a couple more. You won't have the sense launcher bar, or lock screen, but to be honest i think those are crap.

Exactly, With Launcher Pro Plus you basically get all the sense widgets, and there is a theme to make it look exactly the same as SenseUI.

OK but how can we get rid of MotoBlur completely and put launcher pro on the basic android? Does it need root or unlocked bootloader?

LauncherPro is just an alternative launcher, just install it from the marketplace >_>
motoblur isn't JUST a launcher, it's a whole framework. just like sense is a framework and launcher. removing motoblur is far more involved than changing launchers...
Another thing to consider is the legality of doing so.
Android is open source, but Sense is proprietary. In principles HTC can take legal action even for those devs who are making their custom roms loaded with Sense. But so far HTC has not done so, and I kind of feel that HTC is relatively open (relative to other manufacturers, like Motorola) to devs customizing their phones.
But as you said, Sense is the reason why you are getting the Inspire 4G, it is a valuable piece of proprietary to HTC. Once people go crazy and start porting Sense to every other major competing devices, it's only a matter of time before HTC starts issuing cease and desist letters to all the devs.
I would like to see this happen i would donate but only if it wasnt ridiculously buggy...would have to be somewhat stable
Yea. TBH at this point I am ACTUALLY considering Telus Desire HD instead of Atrix on bell simply because of sense.
Its not only the great looking widgets... but the various built in applications and the design of interface that looks much more nicer imo.
Sense brings ALOT of usability to android, and Personally.... I cant run Clean Android.
Only reason I pick up android is BECAUSE of sense. So... would donate if its possible, otherwise will wait for HTC dual core or will get Desire HD.
Battery life on any sense device is horendous...i got the desire hd on telus for my girlfriend and it last ok for her but if your a power user that 1350mah battery is going to die really fast especially at hsdpa

why is this one of the first things posted in dev sections? Sense sucks.
Sense doesn't suck lol. It's very customizable and flows pretty well. I haven't tried launcher pro but I'll definitely check it out and see if I like it. I've heard others say good things about it, but as I've said previously, I'm just very used to Sense.
Oh and about battery life. I get just over a days charge with moderate use, ie. Wi-Fi, HSPA, games, GPS, and about an hour of talk-time. I charge my phone every night regardless of how much battery life is left.

I had to oc my desire z all the way to 1.2 or 1.4 cuz it would run really lagy...now on cm7 with way more apps and widgets at 1.1 and its way smoother than sense ever was for me

That's a lot of overclock. This is at stock 1GHz and is very smooth...no problems here. I'm wondering what 1.2 would do on the Inspire.

HTC sense?

I've switched from HTC Diamond2 (windows mobile 6.5x) to S/E Arc, and I miss the HTC interface.
Is it possible to load the android equivalent to this hardware?

Thanks vegetaleb for the reply! I see that it is possible to mimic the home screen layout really well. However, what Im looking for was the part of Sense that handled calendar related stuff like booking a meeting. In detail, I liked how the clock was changed like it was on a spinning wheel - which made it possible to change the time really fast. Maybe there is something similar in the Android world?
I am missing some Sense apps as well, like the slide down Alarm that you will never find in other apps, if it was a Nexus One with 90% same components as HTC own phones you can ''port'' Sense into it by a custom rom, but when the hardwares are totally different here it's very difficult to do it.
SGS devs tried to port Desire rom but they never could, and they tried hard...
I hope you didn't see the new Sense 3.0, you will return to HTC once Sensation is out

The phones hardware is identical to (apart from smaller storage, screen etc) to the Desire HD, it would be very portable to this device although the smaller storage would make it harder.
Small storage is not a problem, on N1 the DHD port was working great thanks to EXT3 of 1gb on SD

[APP][FWD] Sense 4 clock widget

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554077
As they say, looks legit. Found this floating about on the Desire HD forums, and tried it out on my creaking Leedroid based Desire. Looks just lovely, much better than the other Sense 4 widget floating about.
Note that the widget isn't animated in any way, and works independantly of any oher weather service. Ideal for people running ASOP, or Sense users that don't have HTC Laputa installed.
tnks
Thanks, nice widgets

In any of the above widgets, the black background image below clock for weather, location, temp, etc does not fit properly.
There are option to hide widget elements too. I usually hide weather icon, black bg. set temp to deg Celsius.
I find these solutions mediocre the least, despite the effort for their development. Nevertheless I prefer the slick, small clock of sense 3.5 rather than the huge white Sense 4.0 clock, but still, it's just personal.

I agree, although there is a similar clock (4x1) in sense 4. But i still prefer the sense 3.5 one, it's more elegant.
Thanks!
