Audio out connection left side issues - Desire HD General

Well great, my Desire HD has suffered from a defect.
My left side audio (with headphones or speakers) is nearly soundless, can only just hear it, where as the right side is perfectly fine.
Geez, what to do now... Has anyone else had this issue?

I believe this is a software problem, as a restart fixed it on mine.

And if a restart or hard reset doesn't help, you should take it back and ask for a new phone

Aria speaker

Ok so I just noticed today that my external speaker does not work. My head phones work just fine. By the way its the speaker on the back. Has anyone else had the back speaker die yet?
Let me edit this. It turns out that my speaker does still work but only for notifocations, other apps will not work with my speaker. And I am using the liberated Rom, but the speaker was working just fine the other day.

Please Help - Desire HD possible hardware issue

Hi guys, I live in Australia and recently bought a Desire HD from Clove (about 3 months ago). I recently went to listen to music on it via headphones and realised only one ear piece was working, the other had a soft hiss. Tried some other known working headphones and had the same issue.
When I take the head phones out, the audio play back is very muffled and the same hissing noise can be heard, which continues for 3 secs or so when the ringtone or music is finished playing.
I contacted HTC support and was told I had to send to back to HTC support UK. I sent it to them and received it back really quickly. The phone isnt repaired at all, its exactly the same as when I sent it, and there's no repairer report or anything.
I have tried going back to a standard ROM, it doesnt matter which I use, the audio playback is always crap.
Can anyone suggest anything? I have tried applying various audio fixes, with no improvement.
This is my 4th HTC device and the first I have ever had issues with.
Please help!!!!
Did you use headphones when you were on stock ROM when you first got the dhd or had they been working up till recently. Just trying to understand if this was existing problem or a recent development?

Yeah, I used the headphones alot from day one. It started happening after about 2 months. Really annoying. I think I found another issue as well. If I plug in the headphones and use the FM radio, then select speaker, I just get hissing from the speaker and no fm radio (but yes it does work through the headphones when headphones are selected).
Well I just finished chatting to HTC UK support. I am going to attempt sending it back to them again.
The last attempt at a fix was to reflash the phone.... they obviously flashed it then put it back in the back to send, without testing it. Nice work Regenersis/HTC
Nice way to waste my money.

[Q] motorolay defy+ headpiece sound distortion

Hi, I have a week old defy+. Yesterday I noticed that when i am using the phone between shoulders and my head(while working on the computer or carrying my child etc..) the sound from ear piece is getting distorted. This can *sometimes* be reproduced by putting slight pressure on parts of the touch screen roundabout the entire screen area next to volume botton. The distortion goes off if I take the phone in hand during the same call. I could not find a similar problem on the internet, although the older defy's had a lot of problems with the ear piece. Motorolla support asked me to reset to factory default, which I did, but the problem still remains as it seems to be hardware related.
Has someone faced similar issues? Will motorolla warranty cover this issue as the problem is only when there's atleast a slight pressure between shoulders and cheek. Any and all suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance. Apart from this issues, I really liked the phone.
I never faced it..! I would suggest go visit a service center
Got the replacement for the phone. The new one does not have the ear piece issue.
This phone is nice. Motorola could have as well used a far betTer earpiece . Thank you.

HD2 in-call speaker is dead after dropping from 2 stories

This is not my phone but a friend's phone that I am trying to fix. She dropped it 2 stories and the phone, due to its sturdiness, looks absolutely fine.
In any case, there is nothing wrong with the phone:
External speakers (used for playing music, watching Youtube, etc) works
When calling people, they hear me just fine [works]
However, the in-call speaker doesn't work (when I call people, they can hear me but I cannot hear them)
Here's what I have tried so far:
-putting the call on speaker works but that's probably because it switches to use the external speaker
-I reflashed her ROM but the problem still persists
-if I use headphones, I can hear the caller speaking
Any other things I can try?
P.S. I am amazed at the sturdiness of this phone!
Two stories, did you say? She's lucky.
You gotta open it up- see if the contacts of the handset speaker are in the right place. I don't think it would have gone bad.
While you are at it, make sure the antenna contacts are proper, a known problem after dropping this phone is low or erratic signal after a fall.

2ft or 2meters right?
but 2 stories high & it's still OK?
man what casing was she using?
anyways there could be a dislodge wire/ connector from that fall & luckily it's just that:fingers-crossed:

Hd2 have two speakers, front called ear speaker and back speaker which is activated on notification, playing media files and putting call on handsfree mode.
You need to check Ear speaker.
There are few movies on youtube how to open hd2, search for disassembling hd2.
Check connector on ear speaker.
If doesn't help then buy new one there on internet from 5 to 10$ if you are from States you can have free shipping.
Changing ear speaker isnt complicated just be sure to check few videos before doing it.
I have same issue atm, ill need to do this also.

Sorry for the late reply. Based on the responses I got, it seems the only way to fix this is to open it up. Thanks for your help

She was not using any case at all, surprisingly.
simply replace the speaker
its very easy just unscrew four screws from back and and lift the front from back from edges from opener
here is guide for hd2 from mikechannon

Similar problem here
Hi,
I have the exact same problem you have regarding the non-working ear speaker. I inherited my phone so I don't know if it's been dropped or not, or if the non-working ear speaker is due to software and/or ROM issues. The previous owner had winmo and he said it worked fine.
I suspect it's due to software since sometimes the ear (front) speaker does work, but usually not. I've tried a bunch of different ICS ROMS (CM9, AOKP, PA, currently on Slim-ICS 4.2) and the problem remains which would seem to point to hardware failure, no? What confuses me is the fact that it sometimes (rarely) works. Most of the time I have to enable speakerphone to hear the other side of calls.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have enclosed a clip from logcat in case anyone sees anything weird that I'm not seeing.

Same thing for me. Im 99% sure is hardware failure, ear speaker died or it is disconnected from slot.
Why im thinking this, when gently tap back of cover where speaker is i can here like its disconnected from slot. Sometimes when i tap while in call sound come back for sec.
Next week ill dissemble my hd2 to check if its disconnected or ear speaker died.
Anyway you can buy ear speaker on net for few bucks, they are mostly for u.s. model but think its same as for eu version

Looks like this may be more common than initially thought.
Any one know of any app or diagnostic software in Android that can be used to test the rear and ear (front) speakers to determine whether this is a hardware or software issue?
I'd like to make sure this is a hardware issue before opening the phone up.

Phone strangely switches between front and rear speaker.. why?

I received my device a couple of days back and today I encountered a very weird problem. Sometime phones uses the front speaker and sometimes it uses the rear loud speaker. I got a call, received it and turned the speaker on..the other person on call couldn't hear my voice but I could listen to hers. The a minute later the phone was playing everything from the front speaker rather the than rear. Be it audio songs, videos song anything. When I was pressing the volume rocker, there was no sound coming from any speaker. Finally, I restarted the phone and it's back to normal. What went wrong, any idea? As this might happen again.:s
My phone's condition: Totally stock. No root. No ROM. No kernel change. All stock. Running 4.2.2
Guess I was suppose to post it in Q&A forum. If so, mods, please move it there.

The EAR PIECE that 'can' be called a Front Speaker (as inside the earpiece is a speaker), which goes without saying.
-----------------------
Anyhow, back to the topic.. Has anyone encountered this issue on his/her device?
Seeing responses like the above quoted comment, I might add my phone rattles, but I don't find it an issue. As long as such things aren't affecting the usability of the device, I am completely OK with it. But 2 problems have really bothered me. One is well known, the camera can't focus at all and second is the subject of this thread. So, I really want to inquire if anyone came across this earpiece/speaker problem that I faced and how it was fixed, permanently.
RMA that sucker. Hardware fault.

I had a similar problem.
I would play music from the back but eventually it would play music in the earpiece. I forgot what I did prior, but it had to do with using a modified google play version.
I just re-flashed the rom and it worked fine after that.

Alright, thanks for the response.
I am playing music from the built in Music Player. And I am totally stock. Although it didn't happen again but I was hoping if I could know what to do (besides restarting) when it happens the next time.
