HTC sync will only work HTC roms will not work with cm6
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
This has already been answered a couple times. HTC Sync will only work with HTC Roms and thus does NOT work with CM 6. Rooting has nothing to do with whether or not HTC Sync will work with your phone.

Tried USB tethering for the first time today and I was pleased with how quickly it set up and worked.
Now, I have HTC sync installed as this is my main PC, but does anyone know the set of driver files needed for Windows to pick up the Hero as a modem?
I'd like to pop them on the SD card to allow me to enable internet access on anyone's PC or laptop without installing full HTC sync.
If you've a default set up, the NDIS drivers can be found in c:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks but it only has the drivers there for Vista x64 (my OS), I really need drivers for XP and Vista x86 too
Odd - when I installed it here on W7 x86, I get both 32-bit and 64-bit driver directories. If you can, I suggest you install on a 32-bit installation to get the driver files.
Regards.
Dave
Hello everyone,
This is one of my first post/reply here, so before anything thank you very much to all here for sharing such good infos.
I've tried to setup my Hero for use as USB Modem as well, but can not find the "HTC Remote NDIS Network Adapter" driver either. Reading on different forums it seems it used to be on the memory card shipped with the device, but I bought mine 4 days ago and the file isn't there now. HTC has probably changed policy regarding this. Can anyone point me to where I could download this file to install on my lapto using Vista.
Thank you very much.
You can download HTC sync direct from HTC's website. It contains all the necessary software and drivers, and is a later version than the one that shipped with the Hero (at least when mine was shipped anyway!).
Regards,
Dave
u got it to work with the default program in htc sync??? i thought it doesnt work..i tried and i got an error
Works fine for me.
Regards,
Dave
do u happen to have sprint service? im getting a username/password issue...i know its not the wrong info because i can get online fine without tethering..... im reading at many other places that sprint doesnt have it working yet??
No, mine is not a Sprint Hero. It is possible that Sprint have disable this option.
You might want to try PDAnet to see if that works with a Sprint Hero (see http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php )
Regards,
Dave
thanks dave..yea pdanet does work, i havnt yet tried it because its a trial version and u have to pay for it...i came from windows mobile where tethering was super easy to do and the apps were plentiful.... but it seems the android market doesnt have tethering ..... i rely on tethering alot for when im traveling, i thougth the android market wouldnt be a problem with tethering apps..but it seems im wrong
The GSM Hero support tethering out of the box - therefore the issue is not Android, but more likely a restriction your carrier has imposed!
First things first though - check to see if you have "Mobile Network Sharing" in Menu->Settings->Wireless Controls.
Regards,
Dave
yes, i have the mobile network sharing... i even install the drivers for tethering fine... im getting a error 67 saying that my usrname and password for my internet is not valid.... although i can go on my internet normally via my phone only...i cannot connect a usb to it from my laptop.... right after i connect it, the internet disconnects from the phone then i get an error.... you are right about sprint blocking it.... but theyve been blocking it since windows mobile...people got around it with a simple app which came with all the hacked roms.... it seems like an issue here with the sprint android.... but maybe its still new?

Yes it is still very new. As with WinMo, you need a hacked ROM, but these aren't available yet for the Sprint Hero as it's only just been released. Once you've got a rooted ROM on your device, you should be able to use wireless wifi tether - the meantime, PDAnet is probably your best bet.

Dave

oem.inf
I would like to share my solution. I modified the oem.inf file in the oem.zip(attached) ,by changing the manufacturer name and device id as given in the PC 's device manager(unknown device).
It should work for xp,seven,vista.

Hey guys hope you can help me. I've been using internet sharing for a while but since HTC's most recent OTA update I cant get it to work while on 3G/HSDPA - the laptop cant seem to communicate with the DNS servers and I get an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle by the connections icon in the system tray. When forcing the Desire to use GPRS it works well - although its very slow, obviously.
Interestingly 3G/HSDPA works fine on my Desire - I get emails and web browsing no issues there. I also noticed since the update that it takes an awful long time for the radio on my desire to start data connection (a good 30''). i guess both issues are related to the OTA update which, by reading comments on this forum seemed to create more problems than it solved. Any idea guys as to what tweak I could use to force the laptop to connect to the DNS servers when using 3G on my desire?
cheers

I've had the exact same experience on my t-mobile wildfire - > apply the OTA O/S update and Internet Sharing stopped working!!! (It worked fine before on Windows 7 and XP)
Grrrrr...
Anyone have any ideas?
I also read that a factory reset fixes the tethering issue in several places and will see how badly it fracks the phone up (or whether everything gets downloaded neatly again automatically) and report back here...

Hey,
My iPhone has died so I am looking to buy cheap phone whilst I wait for decent phones WP7 to come out this year. I was wondering how well does
Android work on HD2? Any lag? Do major features like GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, etc work properly? Finally, any of you guys use Android as your day to day OS?
I couldn't find these answers so I apologise if these have been asked recently.
Thanks.
I'm running a NAND build and everything works great. The battery life is tremendous and I use my phone for everything.

The phone was made for Android...why Windows Mobile ended up on ths beast is a mystery to me. Everything works and works well. It runs circles around my brother-in-law's Droid...buttery smooth. The CM builds are my favorites, but if you like Sense, the DHD builds are great too. I was goingto upgrade last fall...but with Android running that's on indefinite hold.
And if you want to use WP7...it has reached daily driver status for a lot of folks too. But comming from iPhone, you might be disappointed in the app store at this point...still early.

Cheap phone? HD2? Seriously?
HD 2's are still holding value. One on contract in uk will be the same price as a desire. If you really can get obw cheap snap their hand off

I picked my HD2 up for 49 bucks a couple months ago. They are getting cheaper.
As for problems, just a few minor ones that some people have helped me fix on this forum.
When I downloaded the NAND rom, everything went smoothly. You might possibly get the Unit code problem. Just do the solutions that people are recommending on this forum. Worked for me.
Make sure you download HSPL 2.08, MAGLDR 1.12, and then the NAND rom. Check radio version before doing this as well.
couple things Ive noticed with this rom compared to 6.5
*The G-Calibration doesnt work as well on NAND as it did on 6.5. Screen sometimes doesnt rotate when you want it too
*Swype needs some modifications to it once downloaded to your NAND rom for the rom to recognize it (at least in my case)
*The Internet issue that everyone is having problems with but is a VERY EASY FIX...(manually enter APN settings) described in another thread
*Finally the phone isn't recognized by computer once plugged in. Anyone have a solution for this that works, please let me know
*Once I got my 3G to work properly with the APN settings, GPS worked perfectly fine and havent had a issue with it that others have had
With all that comes Android though. Android software itself is amazing compared to Windows and these are minor issues that dont bother me. This Rom is very fast and superior to any other Rom in my opinion. Marketplace is great, the animation is second to none, the app and widget placement is superb. I'd definitely recommend picking this phone up and downloading the NAND Rom as you won't be dissapointed.

If you Mean your computer can't mount the phone as a drive, I've only seen this issue in Gingerbread Builds. The fix "more of a work around really" is to download and use the "Multi Mount SD-Card" widget.

With the new ROM, my phone isnt recognizable once plugged in anymore. Ive read about a couple fixes but haven't gotten it to work. This issue is kinda blurry to me since it is a different ROM and your computer software expects to be hooked up to a Windows ROM rather than android. It charges through usb connection to computer, just cant sync contacts, etc. through computer. So yes, it isnt recognizable as a drive at all other than charging if that makes sense. Its the newest NAND rom that DFT provided.

You could try installing the Android SDK. It's a big install, but it will include the necessary drivers for connecting an Android device.
You can get it here...

Will those official drivers work with DFT's version of NAND android ROM though? Will it recognize it??
Strange, I primarily run gbread and I have never had this issue. Running both mdj cyanogenmod as well as hyperdroid

I have no reason to see why not - it's just Android, like every other build. I'm not sure why you're having a problem in the first place.
Are you just trying to connect as a USB device? If so, have you set the phone to act as a USB device?

freeridindirtbiker,
If I understand you correctly you are having problems syncing contacts with your phone now that you have flashed the DFT provided Stock Desire NAND ROM?
My question is what program are you using to try to sync with your phone? When you had windows mobile on your phone you could sync using the windows mobile device center. Now that you are running android (especially in NAND) your phone is no longer a windows mobile phone and cannot be synced through windows mobile device center. You can download HTC Sync which is the software HTC provides to sync an HTC Desire with contacts etc...
Your phone now identifies itself as an HTC Desire. You can natively use it as a usb mass storage device (flash drive), but to "sync" with it you need to install new software on your PC.

sometimes it just doesn't work, i don't know why.
Rooted?

from my point of view this is too few information to analyse the situation...
well, i guess you assured, that your phone's setup correctly (maybe any usb-settings wrongly configured?! not set to htc sync?!)... besides that, assure that drivers are installed properly - maybe reinstall htc sync... i've been using the same version as you do without any problems....
the last option is to call the htc-support... i made good experiences with themon the phone and always received quick responses...
Hello guys!
I've got a little Problem with my HTC DHD. I flashed the newest Cyanogen Mod on my phone and wanted to connect the DHD to the web via PC.
But I cannot find this option.
Can someone help me or has got an idea what to do?
I've got no wlan connection, so i need the usb-connection to my pc.
It's only an option on sense roms. As far as I know there are no apps for it either. If I'm mistaken, please let me know as I would like that feature also.

would be a great feature i think...
