Hi I have looked on the forums and have found a bit about phone insurance. I stood on my XDA exec ( I know what a c**k) its knackered. The screen has popped the silver bit on the back has come up in one corner and the flip / rotate mech snapped so the screen flaps about in the wind.

I have sent it in today to LSG (lloyds tsb phone insurnace). From looking at other web sites my concerns are as follows :-
1) They will not be able to get the parts to repair the exec.
2) If they replace my phone they will not be able to get an O2 one (I know the imate is the same but I like it in black).
From what I have read elsewhere people have had a real issue getting top of the range PDA's fixed (unless its by the network insurance when they mostly get new ones) Most of the time people get offerd a cash settlement.
Has anyone else claimed through Lloyds phone insurance or any other 3rd party insurance and got a replacement phone ?
If they want to settle for a cash sum. How much should it be ??
any help on this would be good ???

here is the answer to anyone who is interested. they tried to get me to take a nokia n91 or n80. I said no.
told them I wanted an exec or the cash. after about 10mins of holding ect I got a supervisor who tried to tell me how good the 91 was. I still said the same. put on hold again.
they came back on and said your exec is in the post.
here's the deal. full new boxed o2 xda exec.
I got my first on in feb 05. this one feels much more solid. the screen flip is much tighter it has come with new rom installed. seams faster.
phone signal is better.
the whole unit seams much more soild than the first one??
could it have been that my first unit was a recon ?

It seams I spoke to soon. The screen has started to flicker (brown lines jumping all over the place) this is very random but the unit has done it about 5 times now.
It will have to go back.
Can I ask for Cash instead of a new phone ??

Hi I have just had my claim paid up by the same insurance (lloyds bank) They told me they do not have any xda replacements and would either give me a nokia n91 or cash settlement I went for the cash they paid me £450 for a xda IIs (ba) £450 is the maximum they pay out so you would more than likely get the same.
I have been informed by a supervisor today that the max they will pay out is £600. They use GSMarena.com to price up what they pay out. Universal costs around 550 - 650 GBP depending on where you look.
The girl on the phone said they will price it on the day the get the damaged one they sent me back. They have 3 suppliers (she would not name them) and they take the average as the units value. I would think they then knock a bit off.
I expect at least £500.

How quickly did they pay you. I have read on other sites it takes them ages to sort it out.
If you look on there website it states a maximum figure of £450 I doubt they will go over it.
I am a platinum account holder and should be covered up to 600 GPB

I've claimed for 2 Xda2i machines that I lost via lloyds TSB insurance which is part of my gold account. each time they've been great at sorting things out for me.
My last claim they informed me they had no replacements and so like others have already mentioned, went for the cash settlement. They paid me £450.
You can only claim twice in every yearly period so I've used up my 'allocation' as it were! I'll ring them next to see when I'm allowed to claim again if needs be. To minimise my risk, I've started carrying my phones in aluminium cases, in my pocket where they cannot fall out and get lost/broke screens again !
I recommend lloyds tsb insurance via lifestyle services group - quick hassle free insurance !

Hi, I really kind of hate askin questions like this, cause so many opinions can vary, but I am trying to get a few ideas on reputable dealers, since I have never dealt with any of them before, I was planning on getting one through Smart-Mobile-Gadgets, they were just mentioned in a few reviews/posts I read in the beginning and seems like a good dealer, but I see so many other places offering TyTN's now.
If you have bought a TyTN and recieved a US charger without the UK adapter, or have had to send your unit back for warranty and recieved good customer service or know of places with good warranty contracts/extended service, or just know of a very reputable dealer, any info you might share would be greatly appreciated.
Also if you happen to know any dealers that have been shipping the 630 serial models.

I used phonesource-usa via eBay w/o any issues at all. When Christian replaced my original TyTN, the new one came through with an HT630 serial number. He offered a 3 day return policy on eBay. I'd also check his website to see if it's the same there or not.
I have heard good things about phonesource, but MMB (Mad Monkey Boys Gadgets) I have dealt with personally and he is excellant. Recieved a USA Charger with mine and the 630+ Ser #. excellant communicaitons as well.
I went through quite an exercise on my quest for a TyTN:
1. I went to Smart-Mobile-Gadgets, and pre-ordered an early shipment from him in late July for an August ship date. Unfortunately, he ended up getting a bad shipment (all MTeORs and no TyTNs), but I'm happy to say he promptly refunded my money. (Overall experience: no phone but still an "A")
2. I went to PhonesourceUSA. I bought a TyTN (628-series), which he promptly shipped to me overnight (I paid extra for that). (Overall grade: "A+")
3a. After about a week with the TyTN, I experienced the stupid stylus silo problem. I arranged to have the device replaced as a DOA. In support of this, I shipped the device out for Saturday delivery, with the expectation that a replacement would be shipped back to me the following Monday. I would have preferred that he ship the replacement before he received the bad unit, but I could live with this arrangement. (Interim experience: "B+")
3b. Well, it didn't ship on Monday... and it wasn't until Tuesday when I called to complain that he did ship a device... but he shipped it 7-day Ground! Unfortunately for me, this happened around the Labor Day holiday, and a full 10 days passed without my replacement TyTN. Suffice it to say I was IRATE... especially after having paid the premium for overnight the first time around and specifically requesting that he send it as quickly as possible (I needed my phone back). Bottom line, I did get my new device earlier this week (630-series), and it seems to be working fine, but the shipping fiasco turned what had been a very good sales experience into a very disappointing one and soured my opinion of this vendor. (Overall grade: "C-")
So the moral of the story: go with the vendor that's going to do right by you on the support front. Given the opportunity to do this all over again, I think I would have bought from MadMonkeyBoy. Although his website is the toughest to use, he's got the scale and the track record to back up what he sells.
Of course this is just my personal experience/opinion and YMMV....

I'd rather David spend his time on Customer Service and fast shipping than a website.
Brought mine from mobileshop.com - placed the order about 2PM, arrived 9AM the next day! Didn't even pay a dime for the device or shipping. £35/18months. Magic.
Anybody looking to buy parts from Global Direct Parts .com beware of them, it's a scam.
I placed an order for 4 ribbon cables for HD2 phones on a sat. The next monday I wanted to add something the said it was already processed, so I had to place another order and pay shipping.
They FAQ says they can reduce min quantities if I buy at least $ 125 of parts, so I add a LCD and place order. They cancelled since now they want $ 149 min. They also went over and changed their web site, so I cannot prove anything.
After 2 weeks my parts are not here, so I call and a wiseguy said I still have to wait until the next 2 days since it was still processing.
The next day they email me they lost my package.
I reply demanding they ship another with Express delivery to make up for the poor service.
They decline and want to issue a refund, and guess what, price on items has gone up (what a coincidence).
I emailed today asking where is my refund (paid with Paypal) and they stated it takes 2 BUSINESS days to issue it.
I placed a claim on Paypal and they emailed back threaten me to stall refund indefinitely unless I remove the claim.
Sorry for this long rant, but such a poor customer service place shouldn't be allowed to do business. I invite anybody NOT to use this place.
They also falsely claim they have all the parts in USA, while they actually dropship from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

I will agree. Terrible customer service. They say they have new or "a" stock.... the "a" stock are used parts, including damaged and unusable. the others are just in poor shape. then there's the problem with them making you pay to ship their junk back, even after it has been determined to be their error. that's just shady. then the total bs they call customer service... if your lucky to get someone, they are uneducated and clueless about anything going on. good luck trying to get answers or some management to reply to you. i own a repair shop and have spent (wasted) thousands of dollars with these losers.

It seems that this company went through a bit of a struggle at some point. Being a business owner myself I know that dealing with the public is not always easy especially when you have employees that are not the right fit. You can only do your best and learn from your mistakes and successes.
I just purchased tablet frames from them and they were perfect, the customer service was perfect and I am going to their website now to purchase more. I found some really hard to find products in new condition and at a great price. Personally my experience was great and I would highly recommend them. Definitely NOT a scam. They delivered.

I think it is true that maybe a competitor is trying to sabotage them. I saw the same exact review plastered across several different review sites. I just got parts from Global Direct Parts recently. While I can't say the parts are so good, the customer service was very rapid and good. Apparently they sent an aftermarket that was suppose to be OEM. The customer service agent said the Huawei OEM parts are hard to come by and they usually get it out of refurbished phones now and some might have been refurbished before with aftermarket parts that they didn't end up catching. They immediately refunded me saying since the OEM parts is hard to come by, there is a good chance I'll get another aftermarket.
The other 3 parts they sent are good and as described. I would definitely do business with the company again.
I smashed my screen a couple of week ago. Dropped a heavy lamp onto it and the sharp top end went into the edge of the screen and shattered a large proportion of it (I'm not blaming the screen cos that would have broken any screen). Luckily bought cover for it and returned it for repairs, due back this week.
But here's the interesting part of the story. I was searching ebay for accessories and came across the following:

So rung comet and they told me it is repaired and will be ready to pick up this week.
How do I know its mine? I took a picture of it before returning and the cracks across the screen are identical.
I can only assume comet are replacing it, even though they are claiming they repaired it.
In thier terms and conditions, if a product is replaced by a new one then the remainder of the warranty then becomes void (only covered for repairs). But they haven't said anything about it. Guess thats good for me, new transformer and keep warranty.
Honestly, this sounds very worrying and maybe this is a suing job. Surely a company isn't allowed to sell your property. What if you had sensitive data on it for example? If you can prove it's yours as you say you can, it looks like an open and shut case to me.
If I were you I'd ask for a proper explanation from them and show them exactly what you are showing us.
Warranty? Warrant doesn't cover dropping crap on it. Insurance would, but not warranty.
Lamp impact damage isn't a manufacturing defect. How the heck did you get the retailer to repair/replace it? Did you buy a replacement or service plan with it?

But very true that i could have had sensitive information on it but thankfully factory reset it before giving it back (just in case something like this happened i guess).
Will take a picture in when I go to pick "my" transformer up and see what they got to say for themselves
my correction, it was a service plan i bought (insurance) I bought with it, about £109 for a year that covers accidental damage. And so glad I did
Bonus, I have the serial number of my Asus. Now this will be an interesting conversation when I go pick up my Asus and try to match up the the serial no.
I'm assuming you are in the UK. Not sure how things work there, but most insurance policies here say they can replace the device and it still takes away the warranty period. As long as they wipe the device, they can do whatever they want with it. Same thing as a return. ymmv, but i wouldnt expect any sort of compensation from a company that is holding up their end of the bargain (taking a broken tablet from you and giving you a non-broken tablet.)
I'm more annoyed about the fact that if they were going to replace it why have they kept me away from my precious Asus for 3 weeks, they have (or someone) has had time to put it on ebay even.
Otherwise not to fussed with a replacement and I think your right that they prob have kept their end of the bargain. Will scrutinise the terms and conditions later.
You'll probably find what's happened is Comet have taken your tablet, the underwriter of the service plan has agreed to replace for a new device, the store then retains the device (insurance write-off) and a staff member asks to buy it for, lets say £50 for this argument which is then a 100% profit for the store due to it being writen-off. This is similar to how PC World worked when I was there during college/uni years and why you see clearance stock with bits missing/damage to them at reduced prices. Oh and staff get silly discounts off damaged products as they generally couldn't sell some stuff, we had people getting laptops for £50 or cheaper on the odd occassion.
However remember this could just be a coincidence lol

i hope they havent actually sold off your tablet, thats a joke, tell them you want to be compensated for the trouble this has caused, you could have had sensitive data on the machine. And you know they are selling your one online. Maybe the person with the ebay account is a dodgy comet employee.
im gonna follow and see what happens, i wouldnt be happy waiting when there are about 4 different honeycomb tablets to pick from now, and they have kept you without your one. the xoom was meant to be the first, but i didnt get one, as this was out first, xoom got delayed and to be honest, why have you had to wait at all.
I am dissappointed that I had to wait so long just to get a replacement, and hurts a little (i know its sad) to see my original transformer on ebay cos it was mine and i loved it.
But to be honest they have kept within their contract, which says if they can't fix it they will replace it. And repairs/replacements will take approx 3 weeks.
Nonetheless i will mention it when i go pick up my transformer on thursday and make a point of why I had to wait when they new they were going replace it atleast a week ago.
And just checked and it has been sold for £180

I want to share with you my experience with the post-selling service of this web, as is quite famous sending overseas and they have really good prices & stuff. But when you have a problem after buying, the scenario changes...
I wanted the 32GB LTE version, and this was the only place to buy the tablet two weeks ago (I´m living in Hong Kong and it was not released yet here). So after checking everywhere, this was a good option as they´re from Singapore.
I called before placing the order to be sure about the stock, and everything looked fine. Just a couple of days of delay but nothing serious. So I went ahead and I placed the order and paid.
As they told me by phone, instead of 2 days from my payment, the shipping was going to take a little bit more than what they said in the web, but just 2 or 3 days more. Not a big deal, at the end I wanted that model so I agreed.
After near one week without news, I contact them asking for my tablet, as they told me that I would receive in less than one week, but was not the case. Stock problems and these things and they could not be sure when the tablet would be shipped... Then I explained them that I already called to confirm just that scenario, to avoid this kind of problems. So I asked my money back if the tablet would delay more than one week more. Surprisingly, they received more in that moment and they were going to send it me to me. Great I thought!
Then, when I open the packet, the first thing I saw was that the seal was broken... Ok I thought, if everything is fine no problem...But Just I opened the box and I found some dust inside and some signs that the tablet was already used. (Again, no problem if everything is fine). But was not. The tablet had a damage in the top side of the frame (see attached pic).
So I contacted them, explaining the problem and that I was disposed to pay the shipping costs back, but that I wanted my money back, as the tablet was already released in HK. But for my surprise, they reply me that was not possible and they were going to send the tablet to the Samsung service to check, and then they would decide
Is my fault to be impatient and not wait for the release in the place I´m living, but come on! Is a new product and very expensive!I have to wait the samsung´s survey? what they are going to send me back? who knows....
Just I wanted to share my experience for those buyers that want to get this version (difficult to find in USA & Europe) to consider the problems that can occur. In my case, I live in HK, so quite close and cheap to send back (but from Europe would be quite pricey and slow). The funny think I told them is why you send this item (already opened) with the damage! is clear that the costumer will claim!. But no reply ...

Yup I had one that had a bulge in the top left corner..seems that Samsung still has lingering manufacturing defects..the only one I had a problem with was the one I ordered from Samsung.com. my local shops and amazon.com were great...
