Thats epic... pun intended
Update- I cant get the terminal emulator to work, it just force closes for me. Everything was going fine up to that point. Im running AOSP molecule and did a fresh master clear before I started loading the files.
Wow that is amazing! I would love to have this running on my phone, if nothing more than a cool trick to impress people!

If no one has tried it on the Captivate by the time I get home tomorrow I'll be the test-subject and try it out first...
This was on the vibrant forum quite a while ago, there was some arguing over how useful it was and I think it died. I was gonna try out but them I got into truong different roms and was flashing my phone bidaily, so I never for around to it.
Does x work in this or is it text/terminal only? How does it all work with our limited hardware inputs?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
I will be trying this on my Captivate
I pm'd one of the dev's and he said it was made for 2.1 and that he would try to get it working on 2.2 soonish maybe.
I just tried it today anyway and it won't get to the [email protected] prompt.

i just got the HTC Hero for sprint last week, its already rooted
im wondering what cool things i can do with it, and if it will be getting froyo officially or am i going to have to wait for the AMAZING GODS of XDA to port it over ?
All I can say is read, read and read some more. You'll learn more that way. Start with the sticky at the top that says guides, tutorials, and Q&A. You most definitely want to search prior to asking any question because more than likely its been answered. Welcome and congrats on getting the Hero.
froyo will not come officially but the devs are actively working on it, I'd say the froyo roms right now are 80% ish, you can now overclock, and I recommend darchdroid 2. 7

yea i just saw the twitter update, and darchhero runs 2.2??

Right now, there IS a froyo rom available. The only big things not working are GPS and Camera.
Really now....that's a problem though I'm a high driver with no camera, so I use my camera a lot, and I usually forget how to get back from where I started, so that could be an issue
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Try regawMOD, and then flash the darch kernal for honeybun. Just grab setCPU or the overclock widget from the market after that.
The first boot will take some time. Also I use it because I really like sense.

DarchDroid is where it's at.
I'm going to release my first rom soon! This will be an rom based off another persons rom that I've improved a lot IMO. just giving a notice it will be a few days bc I need to finish a few things I just wanted to let everyone know I can't wait to see what everyone thinks !!

what ROM has everythinig working ON THE HTC EVO?? AND which one the most awesome one!? SOME SCREEN SHOTS WOULD BE AWESOME.. if you guuys could help me here! I got bored of just trying out different launchers.. wanna go into different ROMS! THANKS!!
Flash them and try them out. I liked running Myn's Z rom for a while to try out the new Sense (which is suwheet), now I'm running Sprint Lovers which has everything working (as you say), with a few extras. For real though, just try them out, worst you can do is waste some time setting up your phone again. But hey, you said you were bored so that shouldnt be a deturbance.
MIUI is the best ROM around, period. It is the perfect balance of style and substance. 4G does not work but it is a fair trade off. We just got gingerbread but it still has a few kinks to be worked out. I recommend flashing one of the latest Froyo builds.
It all depends on what you want.
Sense
AOSP
Miui

Many of the ROMs listed as threads in the Development section have screenshots of them, as appearance is a huge deciding factor for many of us. Take a look around and you'll see!

I'm running Myn's Warm Z right now (which lacks 4G, but eh, I never use it anyway, 3G is more than adequate) and Sense 2.0 is damn sweet. It's gorgeous, responsive, fluid, and just has minor touches here and there that most people really enjoy.
MIKFROYO is a great rom to try,,
I guess I need to try Mik's now... !
Yea ive heard the mikifroyo or something like that righ? Does everything wrkk on that one? Im just looking for something different.. and if i give it a shot at this ROms it will be my first time.. hope everything goes good and not brick my phone ha

Bricking only really happens from radio updates. Remember to back up stock first! Yeah everything works in mikfroyo

I've tried a few Roms, the latest being CM7 and VaelPak. After 2 weeks with those Roms, I went back to Myn. No GPS or voicemail issues, and everything runs smooth. I think Myn Warm Z is the best looking Rom, but the lack of 4G made it a dealbreaker as my daily driver.
Yea.. ive never even done a nandroid.. haha.. but ill follow some instructions and i should be fine.. hopefully.. with the radio updates.. do i have to have a current one for it to wrk on ROMS o no?

You root your phone once, the Rom it self is not rooted. They usually come with tethering and the hotspot fix.

In the OP for Mik's, there is a link to 2 videos. The 2nd one shows how to do a nandroid, wipe properly and flash the ROM.
Very simple
But would i b able to move almost all my apps to sd card still? Hopefully the tether wtls

Whats a big cause of changing to a ROM? Is it more battery life or something? or its just the customization on them?
man when did people get so lazy ? just go t to the dev section and do a little research?
I can't post a link because I'm on my phone but devs. Search xda or Google for sense zero its already been ported to the hero lets get that here

I don't know if it's possible Xo Mabey the Sense team can check it out. There working on a 2.2 Rom right now, but I'm sure they'll try.
WOW!!! I would flip the F*$K out if I see this on the G1. Im not saying its impossible... You know what actually I want to see this on a G1 my friend has a G1 and she would love sense 3.5(zero) on her phone.
It IS working. But someone (tvall <3) deleted his booting build and i made something wrong that it wont boot anymore Q.Q

OK..thanks Rush
having fun trying to get it to boot yet guys?
I think i'll just stop working on this because it's very annoying to get it boot again... -.-'
so far, it has been hell for me to try to get it to boot, and kmseg isn't helping very much haha
Wednesday ill attempt to recreate my previous success. Im such an idiot for deleting it..
There's sense builds for my iPhone 3G *Bootlace, Open iBoot,* We got Sense2.1 and Gingersense. With some magic, swap, and debloating. We can get this to work I feel just getting it to boot up is worth wild. Then let somebody iron out the bugs and kinks. I lovethis new wave of G1 Devs. Hope to see Zero on my G1 soon.

Here is the link to the extracted and deodexed userdata.img.. for those of you who missed it because you used kitchen or just looked over it..
There are the fonts, some libs, and a few test.jar/.apk that may be hindering the build from booting.

Hey e334 could you make an framework.sqf data into the normal framework files?
Of course, just use unsquashfs
Where? adb?

hey all long time no OP...
well im officially gonna take over my fiance's laptop to build from sources among other fun stuff.
ive been looking around and noticed it i build a asop kernel it would still only be a 2.2.2 kernel. would cm6 be something we would like to see? ive also been hitting up the devs at UWT to see if possible to make the mods to build a gb kernel to cm7 and on.
i ask these questions cause i wont be the only one using em.

I'm not too concerned about cm, unless it's 7, or higher. 6 wasn't particularly great, from what I've heard. And, if you/we can figure out how to bake the call to ticker api into it. A custom kernel, for no other purpose than over clock and custom boot animations would be awesome. That and true scripting ability, instead of having to use init.d as a backdoor. If you decide to work on it, let me know how I can help.

I'm with Tx on this. Surprisingly, I'm content with my phone right now. I would like to change my lock screen, but as far as the ROM, it's running smoothly and I don't think CM6 would be any better of an experience for me. CM7 would be nice, but I've already convinced myself our phone will never get gb so it's no big deal.
I would enjoy changing my boot animation though, so I'm all for a custom kernel! Between you and trailblazer, my phone is now what it should have been when released by Samsung and Verizon. Thanks for all the work!
Cm7 is possible. I used it on my gf (hauwei) phone (begore i400) built up from eclair. I didn't do it but it was accomplished. Buggy though. I would rather have functionality over all the fuss though. I'm still on it

How long does it usually take to build a kernel? Sounds like a great plan.
It would be great to see some updates in kernels. Being able to over or underclock or change boot animation would be fantastic. Last phone was OG droid which was easy as he'll to flash kernels, ROMs, boot animations, and over/underclock. I miss that part of it but don't miss alot of the bugs, and lack of RAM with it. This phone does run much better and am happy with it at this point.

I don't use the continuum much these days but would glady test anything and help where I can
And on a side note... I was thinking about ICS on the continuum (i have a rezound)
I was thinking if you outed the ticker completely the softkeys could take its place and the launcher would have the grey bar through... I have absolutely no idea what any of that would involve or how to go about doing it but I can dream dammit!

i believe so too, time pending.
Vanilla Froyo
im trying to build aosp FROYO kernel/rom. starting there before i try to go up.
i see in the .config file where the ticker is and screen res. but source is huge and has stupid (not stupid) code names. ours is "garnett". yet in the menu config for kernel there are device options to build for "garnett_delta" and another i can remember off head. we are also in need of a working [initramfs], i found them once in our sources but i have already started from scratch 4 or 5 times. i had one successful compile yet no output. my next attempt will be tonight and since have gotten only a few errors that ive looked into but dont understand.
Update (patch) Kernel
from what i have read i can try and update the kernel itself to a 2.6.32.59
and have read in order to update to a 2.6.35 (GB)+ i would have to downgrade (or start?) from 2.6.32 (linux sources only go back to 2.6.32.25 or something (this option would take me awhile to just read about lol)
