I don't get this monster of an application... What is the point?
I don't like the idea of having all my contacts on the web, there is a lot of information in there I want to make sure is confidential. My calendar is different and I'm currently testing out Google Calendar. How can I sync my contacts from my PC to my Tab, with the PC as the master db? Are there good and simple alternatives to Kies out there?
Help and advice appreciated.

Hi,
First I hope it’s alright to post this here.
I have been a windows mobile user for years, presently Verizon I760; I really would like to get the Incredible. I have two things that concern me. Any Information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
1. Will I be able to get outlook and the phone to automatically sync contacts, and calendar (both ways) when I connect it with a usb cable?
2. Will I be able to voice dial with a Bluetooth headset?
I am a small business and normally sync to my work computer and my home laptop. I have no idea what exchange is or if that is an option for me.
Thank you advance for your help.
I am very much in the same boat as you as a long time Windows Mobile user (presently with the XV6900). There are several ways to do what you are asking but as of yet, in my opinion, none are great.
One is CompanionLink (companionlink.com/androidusb/ol-android-usb.html). While it does use a USB cable, it uses its own custom apps for calendar, contacts, and everything else. It is unclear to me at this point how big of an issue that is. For example, if you are trying to make a phone call and all the contacts were imported into this custom program, will it find them?
The next is Missing Sync (markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html). It does what we both want, importing the data right where it is supposed to go, but they aren't quite there yet. I have been watching this software for months and slowly they add features. For example they just recently added the ability to sync notes. They still don't let you sync Calendar as of yet.
Lastly the backup plan for me at the moment is using Google's own sync software so you will sync your calendar and contacts with Google's website automatically and your phone will get the info from Google. I am not a big fan of this as I don't particularly want my info online and I would rather it go straight to the phone if I happen to be going somewhere with no internet access. Like I couldn't sync my phone if I was abroad.
So, I am waiting for Missing Sync to get done and until then am planning on using Google's service.
As for Bluetooth dialing, I imagine so but I am not sure.
There is also HTC Sync
Deejx! You are my hero. I feel so happily dumb. The description on the HTC website says:
HTC Sync™ lets you synchronize Outlook and Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), contacts and calendar events on your PC with your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and the Mobile Network sharing function as well.
PERFECT! Thank you. Wow much better.
HTC Sync seems to be able to Sync Via the USB cable
How ever i ran into a program that syncs stright into Gmail itself.
You can find this and more on my blog http://techadminspot.blogspot.com/2010/04/getting-ready-for-htc-incredible.html
The software that syncs outlook with gmail is called CompanionLink http://www.companionlink.com/
Also Dropbox is working on a Android App to sync files.
No Bluetooth Voice Dial on Android
As far as voice dialing from your bluetooth, Android doesn't support that yet. There are several threads on Googles forum about this including this one: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1412
Hopefully they'll get it together soon.

lol not likely, it's been open since 2008
HTC sync won't work with Outlook 2010 64 .as of yet. You have to transfer your contacts and Calendar stuff to your gmail account. One way is to download a transfer program via 'trial', then transfer from gmail to phone using HTC sync. Can only verify for Win7 64 and Office 2010 64.
Hey Guys,
I´m planning to buy a Galaxy S, but there is one question:
Is it possible to offline Sync with Outlook via Samsung PC Studio??
In my opinion this is a k.o.-criteria- syncing from outlook to gmail and then to the phone is imho a work around and no solution.
If it´s not possible I probably will stay with HTC and get a Desire and use HTC Sync.
Thank you for answers - Cheers!
First post for me ever, since 2008
As the online user guide suggests, it uses Samsung Kies, which do sync with Outlook in other phones like the wave, but wasn't mention specifically for the Galaxy S, although I think it would..

Regards,
i have done a sync with samsung KIES.. however if u group your contacts, this field will not be shown on the phone itself.. u have to regroup yout contact into their respective catergories.. other that that it syncs pretty well.. heck it event sync my calendar perfectly
wow- this sounds great, groups are not that important for me! although Kies is a strange name for me. In German Kies means gravel/ grit/ shingle
thanks for your quick replies!

in dutch is't a molar strange name indeed
In fact, it can even stand for "money" in German - maybe because you have to dish out some to Samsung before you can make any use of this software?
I've read that the GalaxyTab should be able to sync via syncml. I'd like to use the opensync-syncml plugin to sync my tablet with KDE PIM.
Anyone ever tried to sync via syncml? How can I enable syncml-mode on the galaxy tab?
Calendar i use hypermatix products calendar_sync_for_android (CalDAV)
Contact i use funambol Sync xmlrpc
work with my egroupware server

Thanks for your answer, but running a egroupware server is a bit of an overkill for my setup. I would prefer it, if I could just do a local sync via USB using the syncml interface. I'm not really sure if the Galaxy Tab does support syncml. Some Galaxy Tab reviews say it would, but I didn't find anyone actually using it. Nor do I know how to enable it or how to tell opensync to connect to the device.
I dont know if this will help, but i have distilled this problem to synching all my calendars to google calendar. Then my tab just 'sees' everything in my gcal.
There are a kabilion ways to synch almost any manner of calendar/groupware sources with gcal. Just google up something that matches your needs.
FWIW i pseudo synch my office exchange calendar with my gcal using evolution (a common/popular gnome based email client).
I do appologize if there is a thread on this already. I searched and probably due to the beast of a headache I currently have didn't find much. I am looking for something similar to MS MyPhone but will also sync cal and contacts to my outlook on my desktop at home. Is there anything out there that will work like that? Thank you. Flame away if this is a repeat question
Well I am going to play with this.
http://www.funambol.com/
its free, open source. You can use their portal or host your own server. I'll let yo uguys know how it goes
Success
Well all,
I haven't set up a personal server yet but just used the portal they provide for free. The web based and winmo side are just as easy to use as ms myphone and the outlook syncing app is just as easy to use. If there is anyone out there looking for an outlook cal/contacts wireless syncing method thats free, give this a go.
With Kies being 'dead' for the S7, how do you keep Outlook contacts / calendar sync'ed? MobileGo seems to have a solution (have it) yet was curious if Samsung has a 'native' solution. Do not want to have contacts at Google or other services due to security reasons. Thx.

Simply set up your mail at the samsung e-mail app (not gmail) or within accounts as microsoft exchange account and you'll get that. You just can't access shared calenders that way, but everything else will be synced.

Try MyPhoneExplorer Client. It works well for me. With contacts and calendar sync to Outlook. You can also copy/paste items from PC to phone??
Thanks and keep those suggestions coming as am sure I'm not the only one. Looks like Wondershare MobileGo, which I already have here, will be for me. Just surprised Samsung didn't offer something native. Kies might not have been perfect, yet it worked fine.

I'm not really aware why you want a third party app to sync your outlook stuff which is anyways stored at your company server or at outlooks/hotmails own servers and you just have to sync through your account through exchange I must confess, sorry, maybe I understand something wrong here.
But anyways, what's wrong with the replacement for Kies aka SmartSwitch?
Excellent question and color me a bit embarrassed right now. I felt SmartSwitch was just cell ph to cell ph and did not see they also had a PC platform. Yes, color me quite embarrassed. Thanks for your help, as ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated.
LAME, sending my S7 back if I can't sync my work calendar.
Bradcrew, it sync's fine. My error on not seeing the desktop app. Works fast and allows you to choose which address book(s) and calendar(s) to sync too.
I am wanting my notes to be synced with my Outlook onto my Samsung Edge 7. why did this stop and how can I get it working again?
The option for notes to sync is still there. Delete the account and add from scratch, it will then give you the option for notes etc. The option for notes is not in the menu when editing the existing account
Smart switch I don't think works wirelessly..must plug in ..phoneexplorrer is good

To synchronize my C7 with the Outlook email I used applications of Syncing.net. They are paid, but you can try the demo versions

Hi. Try out this app following this guide, akruto.com/best-ways-to-sync-android-with-microsoft-outlook/. It works perfectly with my Edge. Sorry cant post links
Be careful when using your Exchange account with the Samsung email app. When I use the Outlook app or Nine to access my Exchange account at work I get a reasonable amount of security permissions asked for. When I use the Samsung email app I get this.
I keep my personal and work calendars separate anyway so I use Google Calendar & Inbox for my personal stuff and access my work account through Nine, since the Outlook app is kind of terrible, doing things like not showing attached files on calendar items.
