Offline Sync with Outlook via Samsung PC Studio - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey Guys,
I´m planning to buy a Galaxy S, but there is one question:
Is it possible to offline Sync with Outlook via Samsung PC Studio??
In my opinion this is a k.o.-criteria- syncing from outlook to gmail and then to the phone is imho a work around and no solution.
If it´s not possible I probably will stay with HTC and get a Desire and use HTC Sync.
Thank you for answers - Cheers!

First post for me ever, since 2008
As the online user guide suggests, it uses Samsung Kies, which do sync with Outlook in other phones like the wave, but wasn't mention specifically for the Galaxy S, although I think it would..

Regards,

i have done a sync with samsung KIES.. however if u group your contacts, this field will not be shown on the phone itself.. u have to regroup yout contact into their respective catergories.. other that that it syncs pretty well.. heck it event sync my calendar perfectly

wow- this sounds great, groups are not that important for me! although Kies is a strange name for me. In German Kies means gravel/ grit/ shingle
thanks for your quick replies!

in dutch is't a molar strange name indeed

In fact, it can even stand for "money" in German - maybe because you have to dish out some to Samsung before you can make any use of this software?

Request: Windows Contacts to Diamond

Hi guys!
I know it´s a freaking funny question, but: How difficult would it be to create a software that synchronizes the Windows Contacts with your Diamond?
I remember the easy life with my wifes I Phone: Plug in, Synchronize and DONE!
Now due to my trouble with Microsoft Outlook (it just crashed and can not be reinstalled so far!?) all my Contacts got lost after using Active Snyc... (my bad, i know )
How stupid can Microsoft be, to expect everybody having f..... Outlook?
Would be nice to hear any suggestions or EVEN a guy who´s eager to program that usefull thingy
Have a nice day,
Seco

there's also the microsoft myphone service (so far free)... haven't tried it - but i believe it's a great concept of having online backup of contacts & calendar, etc...
I've got all my contacts synced between the Diamond, my PC's Outlook and GMail contacts, by just using active sync. I also do periodic backups with PIMBackup just in case something bad happens and I lost any or all of them after a bad sync...

[Q] Contacts / Messages Migration (HD2 => Galaxy i9000) - How?

Hello everyone !
I have a HD2 and think of getting a Galaxy S - real soon !
I have the following issue and would like to know if there's some app available to help out! (besides the classic Outlook sync and then re-sync on the Galaxy)
Thanks a lot for your time , hopefully there's a similar thread where i can read things like this...if not , feel free to post here !
I've not used it myself yet, but I'm planning on trying Sprite Migrate:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
i did mine via my gmail account, so it was a natural move, as i was already sync-ing with gmail on my windows mobile phone
I have used sprite migrate which is a free app. Worked like a charm. It even migrates your call history.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If your contacts don't have pictures on the HD2 then you can simply go into standard WinMob Contacts > select all > Beam via Bluetooth to the Galaxy S. (At least its something like that, can't remember the exact menus when I did it on my Touch HD). This method also worked for getting contacts from my girlfriend's Nokia 5800 to HTC Desire.
If you have contact pictures though, that method becomes more of a pain. I had to sync to Outlook, remove all contact pictures, then export each contact as a VCF file which were copied to the SD card and imported into android that way.
Same here when I migrated from HTC Diamond to Galaxy i7500. I was already syncing contacts & calendar with google. As far as I remeber, I followed this guide:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636
Hope it helps.

mIQ. Worked flawlessly for me switching between devices.
vCard Expert will save all your contacts into a vcf file that can be picked up by an Android phone.
Yooo,everyone,thanks a lot !
I used the Sprite thingy and worked beautifully....i never thought of such a smart piece of software ! Nicely done !
They even offer a complete backup solution software for us rooters / flashers , so , even better !

Sync with outlook

Ok after running WinMo phones since their inception I have moved to Android
First thing I want to Do with my new S2 is sync with outlook...contacts, notes, tasks etc
What can I use to get all the data accross not just say contacts
Can I use Kies ?
Do a Google for CompanionLink
Thanks but $50 or $130 to sync to outlook seems insane
The latest & greatest and I cant just plug it in & sync
May as well send it back and keep my HD2
Use Samsung Kies. Its free to download from Samsung website.
i came from winmo and found it a real struggle to sync with outlook. you have to get used to everyone ignoring your question and telling you just to sync with google.
try kies - if that doesn't work, look for myphoneexplorer. it's also free, works flawlessly and is the closest thing i can find to activesync ...
I just found this page http://www.syncdroid.net/
Incredible... I have to [email protected]#k around with 40 pieces of software for a solution
The best phone cant even talk to one of the most widely used pieces of software
My very first windows phone at least did contacts flawlessly..I remember purchasing some software to sync notes...BUT that was 8 years ago!!
I've never had any Apple products because I dont like being told which way to do things and now Google seems no better
What a let down
You probably won't like this but there's a solution. For about $10 a month you can use an Exchange hosting service. In addition to all the syncs you're looking for you get true push e-mail and don't have to use any of the Google apps. It's elegant but not free.

Look for Gsyncit I think its called.

exchange active sync works for me. i get all my email on my android
Sorry man, thanks to all these corporations wanting to own your sould they do their best to keep you from being able to move cross platform. A real pia and yeah, people here don't seem to get that many organizations do not want any of their stuff going across third party data harvesting outfits (i.e. gmail) and they are not going to change any time soon. IMO you either deal with the crap workarounds or move on because things have been stagnant on this front from the start, there has been little movement up till now, and no sign of any real improvement in sight.
You don't need "crap workarounds" with Samsung Android phones - they Outlook sync either via USB or WiFi using Kies just fine. And this sync completely bypasses Google.
Its not a feature of Android in general, but something Samsung adds to their customized Android builds.

I'm in the same boat...just moved from winmo and thought it would be easy....no it doesn't sync with kies just fine
Try Kies...it's not as intuitive as the almost invisable active sync
I have got my contacts accross although multiple address books look to have not been kept separate
I also havent check that 100% of whats in outlook has come accross as there are multiple fields
Pros coming across from WinMo:
- smooth op system
- havent pulled my battery once yet ..just as well as the cover is made of paper
Negs
- all that battery sucking stuff functions better, is easier to turn on and leave on so the juice dissapears just like before

Install Google calender sync on your PC, that will sync Outlook to your Gmail account.
Then set your phones calender to sync to that same Gmail account and all will be handled automatically for you.
For free, may I add.
"Local" sync with active sync doesnt require any "sharing" with microsoft in the cloud which is why people dont want to share with google in the cloud
why should you have to get a Gmail account just cos you have a Android phone?

Sync Contacts - Outlook / Note

Since Kies doesn't work with some of the latest ICS custom ROMs, can anybody recommend a good utility to syncronise contacts between Outlook & the Note, or as an alternative Outlook & GMail
Thanks
Take a look at Gsyncit. It costs, but it works. Sync is from Outlook to/from the Google cloud and then between the Google cloud and your phone(s). That should make it independent of the ROM on your phone.
My girlfriend has a copy running between Outlook 2010 and Froyo on her Motorola Defy. I have a copy running between Outlook 2003 and my GB Note, and ZTE Blade on Eclair and GB before that.
It means that sync can occur in the background and you don't have to take any positive action to force a sync between laptop/PC and your phone. So long as they are each on the net at some point the sync will just go ahead automatically.
I might add that for the first year of use there did seem to be some instability, with Outlook sometimes being crashed by the plugin on startup, but never any data loss as a result. For the last several months - certainly all of 2012 so far - it has been faultless for both of us.
Hi tdodd,
I have a similar question, my father uses a HTC Touch Pro, and has around 1000 contacts on it.
I have finally convinced him to upgrade to the Galaxy Note, but now I need to solve the sync problem of all his contacts.
The biggest problem that I think I will have will be that outlook always shows the Last name first and only than the first name. Would the Gsyncit program identify correctly the names or would I need to edit each contact to change the first name and last name?
I am looking right now for a way to transfer the contacts from Windows Mobile 6.1 to the Android 2.3.6.
Can SMS and Call logs be transferred also or those ones would get lost?
Thank you all for your help.
To my knowledge and experience Gsyncit will sync contacts, calendar events, notes and tasks. Maybe there is new stuff in Outlook 2010 which I don't know about, but for me it does not sync call logs or SMS messages because, apart from anything else, Outlook 2003 does not hold such information.
As for contact field mapping, in Outlook you have individual fields for surname, forename and other parts of the name if required. The "File As" display is assembled within Outlook from those individual fields if they exist. If you only input data to Outlook in the File As field then I'm not exactly sure how that gets handled, but it should sync across one way or another.
Since Gsyncit is only responsible for sync between Outlook and the Google Cloud it should not matter which Android phone you have because it is down to Google/Android to take care of the sync between the cloud and your own device. That part of the sync has nothing to do with Gsyncit.
If you have a Windows 6.1 device (I used to have a WM5 phone before moving to Android) then it should be simple to sync contacts into Outlook using MS tools. Once in Outlook you could use Gsyncit to sync the Outlook contacts up to the cloud and then let Google sync from the cloud to the Android phone.
However, if it is a one off exercise only, with no sync back and forth required in the future then I believe you can export the contacts from Outlook to a CSV file and then import the CSV file to Google on the web from where they will propogate to the Android phone. For such a one off exercise there is no need to purchase Gsyncit at all.
When I bought Gsyncit for myself there was a free trial available for something like five days and 20 contacts/events. So you can always give it a spin for free and see if it does what you need, assuming the trial is still part of the offering. My purchase was 20 months ago.
p.s. Google finds it easily enough, but here is a link with reviews - https://www.google.com/enterprise/m...ductListingId=4262+17155367427235402467&pli=1

Kies should work. You might need to switch the mode your Note is connecting to the computer.
I used this app when I was having issues and Kies works perfectly again.

How To Sync With Outlook?

With Kies being 'dead' for the S7, how do you keep Outlook contacts / calendar sync'ed? MobileGo seems to have a solution (have it) yet was curious if Samsung has a 'native' solution. Do not want to have contacts at Google or other services due to security reasons. Thx.

Simply set up your mail at the samsung e-mail app (not gmail) or within accounts as microsoft exchange account and you'll get that. You just can't access shared calenders that way, but everything else will be synced.

Try MyPhoneExplorer Client. It works well for me. With contacts and calendar sync to Outlook. You can also copy/paste items from PC to phone??
Thanks and keep those suggestions coming as am sure I'm not the only one. Looks like Wondershare MobileGo, which I already have here, will be for me. Just surprised Samsung didn't offer something native. Kies might not have been perfect, yet it worked fine.

I'm not really aware why you want a third party app to sync your outlook stuff which is anyways stored at your company server or at outlooks/hotmails own servers and you just have to sync through your account through exchange I must confess, sorry, maybe I understand something wrong here.
But anyways, what's wrong with the replacement for Kies aka SmartSwitch?
Excellent question and color me a bit embarrassed right now. I felt SmartSwitch was just cell ph to cell ph and did not see they also had a PC platform. Yes, color me quite embarrassed. Thanks for your help, as ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated.
LAME, sending my S7 back if I can't sync my work calendar.
Bradcrew, it sync's fine. My error on not seeing the desktop app. Works fast and allows you to choose which address book(s) and calendar(s) to sync too.
I am wanting my notes to be synced with my Outlook onto my Samsung Edge 7. why did this stop and how can I get it working again?
The option for notes to sync is still there. Delete the account and add from scratch, it will then give you the option for notes etc. The option for notes is not in the menu when editing the existing account
Smart switch I don't think works wirelessly..must plug in ..phoneexplorrer is good

Hi. Try out this app following this guide, akruto.com/best-ways-to-sync-android-with-microsoft-outlook/. It works perfectly with my Edge. Sorry cant post links
Be careful when using your Exchange account with the Samsung email app. When I use the Outlook app or Nine to access my Exchange account at work I get a reasonable amount of security permissions asked for. When I use the Samsung email app I get this.
I keep my personal and work calendars separate anyway so I use Google Calendar & Inbox for my personal stuff and access my work account through Nine, since the Outlook app is kind of terrible, doing things like not showing attached files on calendar items.
