Enough already!

Call this a rant or whatever you want, but I need to get this off my chest cuz its starting to make me sick. There is WAY too much frickin complaining going on in this forum. I can't speak for other forums cuz most of my time is spent here. The developers here don't have any obligation to share their work with us. They do it voluntarily and for free. Do you really think *****ing is gonna accomplish anything? Do you think developers appreciate that? I know the developers here are too smart to be influenced by ungrateful users, but its still ridiculous to see. If you don't like the way the developers handle their work, run the Froyo OTA and be done with it. See how well a massive corporation's work stacks up. This community cares more about what these phones can do for us than Sprint and HTC combined. Think about that the next time you feel like lodging a complaint. Not trying to start anything but I feel this needs to be said.

Yea, threads like this only spam up the board more. Not even the developers themselves are writing crap like this.
Please no more of these threads or random outbursts in threads. No ones forcing anyone to read anything, and anyone literally getting angry over posters posting about 2.2 root has a problem. Annoyed is one thong, but this thread is angry.

You're right about one thing, I was angry. However, this wasn't a rant about people asking for a Froyo root, not sure where you got that from. It was about people who show no appreciation for the ones doing all the work here. I wasn't just complaining about complaining. I was complaining about people that expect everything to be handed to them and then whine when things don't go their way. Getting this off my chest was all. I feel like I have a right to do that.

It is done everywhere, you hear it at work, at school, at home, you name it people are there complaining, you just have to take it in stride and not lose your cool.

This thread is hilarious. This is a cell phone forum. I could care less about what people do on here. I go online to learn things I don't know about and have fun. If you are tired of reading about people don't open the thread. Pretty simple.

Yes I have. I deal with constant complaining from someone I work with everyday and ive always ignored it and nothing ever changed. After finally getting fed up with it and calling him out, the complaining has stopped. Being too passive gets nothing accomplished and wont change anything.

Sorry but I have a problem looking the other way. Maybe if less people ignored these kind of things there would less to deal with. I know this thread won't have an impact here but I really don't think it hurts to try. You have your opinion and I have mine.

This has been discussed in detail months ago. This is normal. Evo doesn't charge over 95% on average.

You need a SBC kernel

It happens because the battery reaches "full" between 90-95%. A full charge over time damages the battery; but that is why they have the sbc kernel for if you want to hold the extra charge.

Haha, is a simple "Are you using an SBC kernel?" too much to handle, how hard is it to answer a question, politely tell him to "please post in the right section next time" and then let the post slip off the front page. The fact that he has left the thread is evidence that he found his answer somewhere else, most likely the forums search function. Something he should have done before posting a new thread about a topic that has been discussed numerous times.
I'm pretty sure these noobs are not going to be influencial in the devving community as doing a search before asking a question is pretty much innate with anyone that has the mental capacity to handle such a profession/hobby.

sorry about your bad experience bro, dont worry it happens. about it, the battery drop is very common, its a safety stop built into the batteries, they stop charging when they reach 95% to prevent damage, your phone says 100 but really is only 95, sometimes using an sbc kernel(aka trickle charge) solves that problem by pushing little bursts until your battery reaches a true 100% also look too see if you have mobile data always on, in network settings. and next time try the search button and type your problem there.it will show you any threads were similar problems have been discussed, i wouldn't worry to much about that initial drop if it only happens then not thru out the whole day drainnig your battery, you'll be alright, good luck

First off, let me say that the XDA site has been a godsend. I've learned more about my phone's capabilities in the last few months than I could have ever expected.
Having said that, the Epic 4G community is seriously lacking. I've rooted and custom rom'ed a few friends' phones recently, an Evo, an Incredible, a droid eris, and a Droid X. It was shocking to me to enter their forums and see all the wealth of information and plethora of choices. CM7, MIUI, roms galore. Then I come back to our forum... and... yeah. I appreciate all that the dev's have done for our phone. I can't even remember how much my phone has improved over stock, but I think it's crazy how undersupported our phone really is. It's got all the potential in the world, but the comparably weaker Evo is getting all the love from sprint customers.
That's why I pre-ordered the Evo 3d from best buy recently. As much as I love the screen on the samsung and would love to have the SGS2, I just can't risk getting stuck with a phone that has little to no support again. It's a shame. Best of luck to those of you who stick with this phone. Hopefully the trend of established developers leaving slows down because it's been very disheartening to see our already meager dev crowd dropping like flies.
On to bigger and better things but still thankful for all the support for the past few months. Take care.

Anyhow, the reason I posted this is because I have a strong feeling that there are plenty others on this forum (whether they are lurkers in the dark or randoms that post one-liners just to bulk up their post count, or even the dev's themselves) who feel similarly. Our phone had all the potential in the word. But, between Samsung's ineptitude and our comparatively small dev community, this phone never came anywhere close to its potential. It's sad that my girl's banged up antique droid eris can flawlessly run the latest CM7, yet my phone shi*ts a brick if I try to load netflix.
again, no disrespect. for those of you that stick with samsung, I hope the SGS2 gets better support. It certainly looks like a phone for the ages.

but also I did notice that he joined fairly recent so to be honest I don't think you gave this community much of a chance. it sounded like you really didn't want the phone in the first place.

Before you went on your useless, selfish rant, did you consider you could have learned to develop or help support or developers? You were party of the community that it sounds like you put nothing into. You justifiably got the same from it. I hope you learn this before you go stink up another community.

I have to admit, this made me laugh too.
Having said that, there are two things I didn't do for this forum.
1.) I didn't develop or theme, wish I could have, but it's going to be a long learning process.
2.) I didn't post every time I coughed, sneezed, burped, pooped, or grabbed a bite to eat. I didn't think it was necessary.
But I did do the following:
1.) Visited this forum and other XDA forums very regularly, which is how the site makes its money. Sponsors don't pay for post counts, they pay for page hits. There are likely exponentially more visitors than posters.
2.) Donated. For those dev's whose Rom's I used, and themers whose themes I enjoyed, I donated money. And, I'm pretty sure that's a large incentive for why they do what they do, as Noobnl so eloquently displayed.
3.) Referred, literally dozens and dozens of people to this website, which adds visitors, page hits, and sponsor money.
So, you're right. I never developed a ROM that you could use. But, until now, I also didn't waste bandwidth with nonsense or ETA queries. Once again, I didn't start this post as a swan song or with the hope of warm condolences; I was just curious to see if there were others who felt the same way.

I am having a hard time justifying this comment. My friends want me to search for roms on their phonesand when I look I find a ton of pretty much the same roms written by different people. Can someone who had done this on other phones explain what the bonus to having 40 roms with 1 feature current versus having 5 stable, working roms that can have features added. I'm not sure went over-saturating the dev section is considered better support. Was the EVO so bad off that it need 40 roms?

I understand the OP, but honestly, I had an evo running cm7 and my epic with srf 1.0.1 would run circles around it. Im pretty sure the same will happen with evo 3d and gs2.

What is going on with xda nowadays? I don't know the story but it seems like the devs are fighting amongst each other and half of the comments being posted are negative. For God's sake people, this is still the greatest site for people to find fixes modifications for our phones but I for one think twice now before I post a question or comment on here because I don't want to deal with the trolling or flaming that may come from it. I have gotten a lot of help for my evo from some of the great members here and just don't want any newcomers to be put off after reading a few post. I actually agree with this, everyone needs to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I actually think it would be a good thing to have XDA down for a couple days, so people would be really grateful for when it came back!!!

The reason is that XDA has become so "famous" that people who have no business working on their phones themselves are all over this thing. I do rooting and rom service here for hire and almost all of the people who come to me started out on XDA - most of those ended up with issues they couldn't resolve, the others were smart enough to realize they were in over their heads. Point being, all those kids who troll and flame the forums elsewhere are now here. That's my take anyway.

XDA needs stricter forum policies and suspend accounts of users who post such negative comments that they offend other users and provoke such behavior from others. People need to learn to have respect for others and also hold their tongues. Some people can't resist the urge to "put others in their place" so-to-speak and that's totally unnecessary. Thos who make such comments should be given only ONE warning then account suspension. Once people see that XDA has no tollerance for that kind of behavior, people will think twice before being so hateful to others in the forums. That will solve it.

Agreed. I think there is a lot of new people here who just don't understand what these devs do. They act like they deserve something for flashing these devs' rom. These guys put in a ton of work and some people act like they should get paid to run it on their phone. It's a shame really.

I have to agree with this statement . I even tried to help resolve a problem one member was having in one thread and I was more or less blasted with some off the wall comment regarding windows on a computer . I sat there and thought about responding but didnt . I only knew it would cause it to continue further so I let it be . So yes I agree with most of what is being said in this thread . Granted I'm not a dev and have alittle theming ability but I try to help someone when I see them in trouble and they are trying to understand . Only since I was in their place at one time and was totally clueless . Yes its easy to scream go read , but sometimes doing the actual process itself is what teaches an individual . The devs on here do awesome work , all have their strengths and all have their different takes on a Rom and how it should work . In lack of better terms its their creations , they are allowed to take as long as they feel they should for it to be up to their standards or expectations . Not the individual flashing the rom . I swear I laugh everytime I hear "Whats the eta on release?" Um this isnt HTC and this isnt Sprint . You want a release date ask sprint or HTC when they gonna offer software upgrades .

This place is actually a wealth of knowledge but it is easier to find what you want other places 9 out of 10 times just due to trolls and flamers. There will be a 50 + post thread and only 5 decent posts in the entire thread because the rest of the posts are trolls or hot linked picture to flame some one.
No one wants to wade through that garbage to find an answer so they look elsewhere.
I generally find what I want and help myself to avoid the issues that a lot of members here cause. Do away with the issues, trolls, BS and this site could be the one stop shop for hand held devices. But until then there will be mainly people registering just to gain access to a download or link.
Just my 2cents.

I am not sure what is so hard about reading though. The hero is my first phone that I even thought about modding. I got it in march of last year, opened my account here in June and if you notice, I only have 30 or 40 posts total (I think the first one wasn't until about 4 months ago). For the most part this was because any time I had a question, I just used the search function. If an xda search doesn't answer my question, and a google search doesn't answer my question, THEN I ask. I am sure that most of those here who hold the knowledge would agree that they don't have a problem with the lack of knowledge, but the lack of resourcefulness.
Trust me, i am just a peon when it comes to this stuff, I don't know much. I only wish I had the time it would take to become an expert on building apps and roms, etc. but I don't. However, even I get annoyed when I am searching for an answer in a thread and the same question is asked (and answered) 4 times in the span of 2 pages.
I agree that those responding could use a little more tact sometimes... However, plainly asking someone to read for themselves is not rude, it is teaching reliance on oneself. If more people were a little more self reliant I am sure that this place would be far more efficient (and welcoming).
I, for one, thank the dev community for keeping my Hero running, I don't have an upgrade until January so it will have to do for a while longer.
Edit: I feel a little embarassed, I am in here because my wife as an Evo and obviously I would be the one to support it... Anyway, if y'all are wondering why some Hero owning, absent-minded poster is in here acting all righteous, that would be the reason, I forgot I wasn't in the Hero forums. I still believe my post to be valid, but you may take it as you want.

They should have a dislike button and members who had only had their account for six months are able to have their comments disappear with a set number of dislikes and those who had it longer cannot have their comments blocked, my 3 cents

I remember when this all happened 3 years ago in the touch and diamond forums between a chef's I'll leave nameless...It ended with a damn good chef getting banned. All that started over a program that was written and another chef tweaked the "hell" out of it making it a success, but creating a world of controversial bickering...It follows all forums once they begin to blow up as The Evo did!

I just get annoyed with seeing threads in the Dev section get overtaken with pages of 'arguments' or the like. Or complaints about devs and money or whatever trendy bull**** is happening. That's all. I'm of the type that feels the need to read more pages than not in a thread, so when I sit through 5 pages of total sh!t I almost want to slam my head through the monitor.
In terms of the General and Questions section, people posting pictures and the like are harmless, in my opinion. Most threads asking questions in the Gen / Q&A get by with little to no issue. Sometimes a thread deserves to get derailed.

You don't have to register to even access the download link. That eliminates that theory. I do highly agree with most of the things being said here though.

Agreed. The smartphone boom is bringing a lot of people with no patience and no respect. They want their phones fast, and they want it done now, for free.

I find the mods to be very friendly and helpful. Someone or something you don't like, send them a PM and have it moved/deleted/etc. I've always been met with a thanks when sending in a PM to have a thread moved.

I do agree, though. And complaining about it over and over, as we see happen, won't change it. I do agree that it gets tiresome seeing it in the 'important' threads though. But talking about it really doesn't change much.

It seems that every week another ics rom pops up on the forum pages...but guess what? It has the same exact problems as any other fancy schmancy named rom.. no 4g, no ffc, no video camera, and most importantly no netflix...

Oh and now most of the really good devs have joined forces and formed a TEAM (who's forum is terrible by the way, abusive mods makes for a horrible site imo) and what do u know a whole slew of new ics roms appears with the same problems :-(
I know its too much to ask for these guys to actually collab together and fix one ics rom to get everything working like a gb...too many egos... I'll just stay on swipes gb for now until one of the geniuses has a breakthrough..anywho :fingers-crossed:

No sir I am not mad at all, just a little disappointed that a complete rom hasnt surfaced yet, that was the point of my rant. I dont claim to possess the know how to build a rom, fix it or offer any assistance to a dev other than test out their work.
That being said, if I was a developer, I sure as hell wouldnt keep putting out the same broken rom with a few new tricks and a different fancy name. I more than likely would try to figure out how to iron out the snags.

I'm assuming you read every OP before flash anything. So when you finish the OP instructions and what works and what do NOT work, then you decide to flash it knowing all that stuff you are pointing off (ffc, vidcam, 4G and netflix) are not working.
You made the right decision, went back to the RON you like.
You should port solutions instead of talk crap about the people that you don't know and they don't know you either and made this ROMs for free for you and every user here on xda.

First of all, like mazda said, if you want a fully developed rom then why don't you take a stab at fixing some of the issues with ICS for the Evo. Odds are if the CM team has not fixed them yet, they are a bigger problem then just a simple xml, jar or other edit.
Secondly if Netflix is SOOOOO important to your daily existence then I suggest you get a rom that supports it. Or even get a phone that ICS has been released on. Or at the very least chuck up the couple of bucks and get BootManager.
Thirdly, like you said your not a developer. So stop trying to give a developer/dev team advice on what they should do with their roms. Do you give you advice on how to set every setting? No, so please step back into your place as a flasher or move along.
Fourthly, Terrible forum? How many forums do you run? How many moderately(due to newness) successful website have you built, coded and maintained?
Abusive mods? Someones a little butt hurt that he got a post or 2 deleted that weren't quality posts. More than likely all you were doing was trying to get to the bare minimum posts to get to the Development section, so you could freeload over there as well. You want to talk about abusive mods? Well then, xda is what you should call home...
And lastly, There is a reason for developing many ICS roms. Its called having a choice. And by the way if it weren't for this TEAM that you talk down about and the roms that they happen to work so tirelessly on, how many roms would still be as actively developed? Not that many. So excuse this TEAM for giving YOU the option, choices, and hell even a fighting change for the EOL Evo.

I could care less for a fancy title or how many followers I got because I don't lie when I say I do this for joy! Do you think when I go apply for a job that I tell employers "HEY BTW, I got 6 ROMs on XDA and I've got over 2K thanks".....NOBODY DOES THAT ****! Do you think that with the donations that these devs get that they can buy a gallon of milk? You can strip the title of RC, take away my thanks meter and I will continue on doing what I do.......If you're not going to help then you should really STFU because you're making yourself look like an idiot!
You think the main reason for these types of forums is to provide you with ROMs??? NO this type of forum is actually made for developers NOT users like you! Is made for developers to troubleshoot issues and extend the life of our devices!
YES I admit that maybe if we joined forces to fix 1 ROM it would get done alot faster BUT how can we do that when we got idiots like you asking 1000000 times "why doesn't temple run work" or "I can't see the download link" or "does 4G work with this ROM" instead of troubleshooting and fixing stuff using useful comments, logcats and trial/error!

Once again I'm not mad...I hope the 3 roms you are sitting on are decent. I assure you I am not defending anyone, I had an opinion I expressed it, now you and your lackeys feel the need to bump your gums, or in this case type out your frustrations on me. That's fine..this is the place to express your opinions right?
I can only imagine how much work you put into your roms, but I doubt that you make them just so other devs can better their devices...come on man. Lets be realistic, you know that the larger amount of users on this site are here just to download a rom and move on...if you hate getting 1000000 stupid questions...as you put it...why are your releases public? and broken? correction...SOME are broken.
The easiest way out for you and these other jokers is to attempt to label me the idiot. So be it. Enjoy. I most certainly am guilty of downloading..but if you take the time to examine my post count like your friend did...you'll notice I'm not a spontaneous complainer. I've witnessed quite a few spats on this site..I'm sure u were involved in a few...never thought I'd be in the middle of one haha....at the end of the day..I think your a fairly good dev...

yes actually we did tell you and you have been told and the truth is that anyone who reads these responses to you would agree that you have been told. The fact is you realize this and are trying to save face. But that's hard to do when you have two of them.
