[Q] What is best ROM for D2? - Droid 2 General

I am just curious what you guys think is the best ROM for a D2.

As of right now, nothing compares to Fission.

Best ROM
Fission by far!

Fission huh.....can I ask why

and how do I get it? Do I need another kernal as well?

Just go to the development section and read the first post in the Fission thread. It explains how to install. You need to be rooted and have Koush's bootstrap.

If you like the stock look, you could also try squidly's rom. People with oc have been getting good scores with quadrant. The support is good for it as well. Has scripts setup to make it most customizable for basic needs and has the oc built in as well.

Maybe a but odd question, but what is the most Sense like rom out right now? And what is the latest version of Fission, because I see a few listed in the rom section.

I would agree about a sense like rom. Anything like that out there? Or anyway I could install it on the D2 if I get one?

There's not a sense-like rom that I know of for the D2

Oh, I think I remember seeing one for the original Droid and would have like it on the D2 or at least the dialer.

Try Dialer One.
A Sense ROM is extremely unlikely on the D2, so don't hold your breath.

Yeah, Dialer One is a decent replacement, it has some of the sense look and features

Can i replace the stock dialer with this? Looks nice, but themed version would be great!

How does it compare to this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784778
What about the HTC contact app, anyway one can install that?

What is the latest version of Fission? Can I get it in an HTC style black tool bar and stuff?

There is a Black Status bar. The newest version is 2.1.

Am I the only one that likes stock blur rooted and bootstrapped ? Fission gives me touch issues when using ADW as my home.

Fikckey yeah. For sure then I am goin with the black theme.

I use Launcher Pro and have no touch issues. The phone just runs smoother blurless

ROMs

I may go to a MT3GS and actually like the streamlined-Sense you get on it. When you go to custom ROMs (i.e., CM6), are most of them sans-Sense?
Some roms don't have sense and have stock Android. Some have sense without the sense launcher it will have launcherpro for example instead but the menus will still have sense. Hope that answers your question.

What does CM use? I want FroYo with Sense. Or at least the Sense dialer.
I have asked jp4756 to port one of my roms over from the incredible to the slide. More info on my rom, jdfroyo can be found at incredibleroms.com/jdkoreclipse
Ps. The rom in the link is for the incredible. I will post the mt3gs version when available.

What is so different about sense vs stock android?

No Sense with CM.
So are there any Sense ROMs?
There are Sense roms, but none with Froyo. We'll have to wait until the official update comes out first.
If you want the full-on stock interface, I'd grab CR_Mod_1.35.531_OTA Full ROM.
SLIDE MR1: Version 4 Final is a Sense rom and what I was using before going to CR Mod.
I'm on CM6-RC1 now, and it's one of the most stable roms I've used. No Sense though. The dialer was one of the big things I missed from Sense, but I found Dialer One that functions close enough for me. Screenshot below. Oh, and it has a dark theme as well.
Imagine CM6 + sense, huh? That would be awesome.
For now, if you want sense, you're gonna have to stick with Eclair.
I personally recommend slidemr v4 or v5 if you want stock launcher (kind of irrelevant now that we have ADW theme for slide's stock launcher).
Like sandpaperback here, I had slidemr v4 for a while before switching to Eugene's CM6. Never had any problem with it.
Still the same, right? No Sensified Froyo roms?

Probably not until there's an official update to 2.2.

Stock custom rom

Hi just wondering if theres a stock custom rom for my droid 2 thank u very much!!
Yeah, is called fission, go to the android development forums for the droid 2 and look for it, I have it installed on my droid 2 global and its wonderful

Alright thanks is that the only one or theres more?

Well there's also gummyjar, its basically stock, but with a gingerbread theme and some extra eyecandy, if you want a fully stock system to build from, go with fission, otherwise you should go with gummyjar
Sent from my WICKED FAST DROID2 GLOBAL with fission using XDA App
Yeah im just looking for the same stock rom it could themed as long as it has the same ui u know like the stock browser, lock screen, etc thank u guys but it seems to be several fission rom r they all the same?
ray
I don't know if gummyjar is based off of fission, it might be, idk, but they are very similar in many ways, so its just a matter of whether you want the eyecandy and little extras gummyjar offers or whether you want the completely stock android experience, you can always install the gingerbread theme on fission anyways.
Sent from my WICKED FAST DROID2 GLOBAL with fission using XDA App
Ok as soon as I get a chance I will try the fission
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
Yo rusty I think I didn't explain my self when i said stock I meant to say the stock rom of the Droid 2 u know with the motoblur
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
oh, well i believe the makers of fission are working on a version with blur called fused, although i dont see why you would want it, youre gonna have to wait though as its not released yet

The liberty toolbox is what really makes liberty stand out from gummyjar. In this one app, you can install fonts, themes, edit build.prop and other files, block ads, mount /system, and install addons, and loads of other things.

is it suppose to be faster? and how often if at all will it be "updated"

I never really used gummyjar so I'm not sure, but I can tell you its the fastest rom I've used since I got my d2. As far as updates, your guess is as good as mine. The rom itself hasn't been updated since its release, but the liberty toolbox has gotten an update. I'm sure it will get updates here and there. Maybe not as often as others since the initial release was already rock solid.

Liberty toolbox is "technichally" usable in any ROM. I have used it with both Fusion and Fission without an issue.

Hmm didn't know that. It says in the market description it only works with liberty but that's awesome it works with other rom.

It works but every once in a while you will get an error saying that you are not using liberty. Clearing data fixes that.

[Q] HTC Evo 4G 2.3 Sense Gingerbread Rom??

Hi everyone.
I'm looking for a Rom for my HTC Evo that is running 2.3 and that has sense.
My buddy told me about a Rom called Sensation? Not sure if it's out yet.
He also told me that Cyanogenmod has a Rom called Cyanogen Nightlines? That's running 2.3 Gingerbread.
I like sense though I've been looking for a long time for a 2.3 build with sense. Are there any? Or are they all without sense?
Thanks for your help
CM-7 is gingerbread but has no sense whats so ever its all AOSP. As for 2.3 sense it has not yet been released so you won't find any roms yet afaik

i think your buddy is yanking your chain about the sense 2.3 rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943903
You will not find a 2.3 sense rom until one is leaked or released by HTC. CyanogenMod is based off of the AOSP source code and is close to stock Android.

Thanks for all the help guys. Has anyone tried nighlines or whatever its called? Should I try it...not sure if its worth loosing sense.

You think it's better to get CM7? Or Just download the 2.3?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877653
Not sure
that is just up to you and your opinions.... most of the 2.3 ROMs have some bugs and issues....CM7 is a little more stable. and launcher Pro is really great for $3. analog sense clock widget is a good replacement, but it does not have the animation!

oh..haha yeah didn't see that. I'm going to give it a shot
hopefully CM7, and 2.3 look the same no?
Not at all. As said, CM7 is based on stock Android 2.3, so it's AOSP. That big flip-clock that you get on a brand-new HTC phone is part of Sense. Search Google Images, plus check out the threads for each ROM to get an idea of what it looks like before you flash.
edit: there may be a *few* similarities, but they are quite few.

In your opinion

In your opinion, what is the best ROM out there for the DX. I'm running,Darkslide right now and love it .just want to see your thought s and recommendation. My favorite thing about this rom is the swype keyboard its fantastic. Also any one know if were getting 2.3 or a Rom with the tv screen off animation on gingerbread. My buddy had a rom on his vibrant

I don't think there is a "best" ROM out there right now. ROM's are more of a personal feel and what you like in a ROM. All of the ROM's out there are amazing, and have been built by amazing dev's. I personally am running Darkslide right now, but I have run Liberty 1.0, Liberty 1.5, Rubix 1.9.5, Rubix 1.9.7 Rubix Blurry 1.8, GummyJar 2.5, Fission 2.5.7, TranQ 3.7, Apex 1.4.... And this is all within just the last 2 months...
Give each ROM you are interested in a try for a few days or a week. Until we get the ability to run an AOSP ROM WITH a custom kernel (like Cyanogen), and even then, who is to say a BEST ROM, I think it is really what you the end user is looking for that makes a ROM a "best" fit for someone.
I agree with you. Probably shoulda worded it as "favorite" as apposed to best. I've personally tried most out there. Just wanted to know what people are running.

i'm currently stock root, i've tried apex 1.3 liberty 1.0 liberty 1.5 rubix 1.9.7 tranq 3.7 and darkslide 4.2. i'm thinking of going apex 1.4,
is there a rom with the gingerbread screen animation
