Craigslist add

I found this add on craigslist
he is charging $25 to just install android on HD2, I dont know if its right or not???

He's basically scamming you of something you can do for free.
You're already on XDA, how easy is it to use the search function and learn to do it yourself? Also, you have a variety of rom's to pick from ... and I don't think 25 dollars is right. What would developers think when they find out their work is being sold for profit.
My advice, don't.

My main point was can't we do anything to stop people like this making money from others hardwork

He's not selling android, he's not selling the dev's work, read what it says, he's selling a service of putting it on to someone's phone. You'd be surprised how many people are still wary to touch their device in-case something goes wrong, so paying someone else who knows how it's done is no issue at all, people buy and sell services to each other every damn second of the day, this is no different.

FYI I am not flaming XDA with junk, I just wanted to make sure that XDA members are okay with this kind of services.
I owe a lot to XDA and because of XDA I am in love with my gadgets.
If everyone is okay with these kind of services, then I dont have any problem.

I am not advertising for anyone, and I believe that whoever has clicked on that link is a XDA member, and I dont think that any XDA member would give someone $25 to install android on their HD2, instead they will do it on their own as lots of information is available on XDA forums.
I kept the link so that if someone from XDA need to take action against that guy, they can go through that link. But as everyone is okay with this type of services I am removing the link.
I would also like MOD's to delete this thread as it is of no use now.

Seriously backlashsid, calm down. The OP was simply stateing his aggravation over people selling developers hard work, we at XDA are all aggravated by this, but it cannot be stopped. The OP did nothing wrong.

Flashing my phone new the the hacking world.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask for heldlp on flashing my phone. My phone is rooted and I have rom manager installed on my phone, what else do I need or that's it, and were do I find roms for my phone? I would use rom manager but I need to pay to get to the roms.

I was flashing my phone for the first time several weeks ago and I found this guide extremely useful, it may be a little outdated now but hopefully it will help you as much as it helped me.
The entire process is not very hard at all, its mostly a matter of having (a little) patience. Don't worry too much about it all, you can't really screw up.
If your phone is hardware locked, make sure you can boot into download mode before you flash.

Calling any DEVs...

First thing...dont rape me for posting this here.
As a Vibrant owner for a while now and a loyal follower of all you superior devs here (following Eugene back since we both owned a Behold II), I now have a Dell Streak 7. I got it cause I am about to deploy and I can use it over wifi to video chat with the wife back home. Well.....
There are zero devs over in the Streak 7 forums. It is a badass device with a dual core processor, but it is running 2.2 and it doesnt support itand is clocked at 800. I have mine rooted and clocked at 1000 with the new update of SetCPU. There is no recovery that I can find and CWM does not support it yet. There are zero roms, and I am savvy, but a novice at dev'ing to say the least, not to mention that in the Army about to deploy for a year, I have no time. They are however collecting a bounty together to buy a free Dell Streak 7 for a dev that is willing to work with it. If you could help us Streak owners out, just shoot me a PM on here. It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming that he's assuming that he could get more dev's attentions here.

i aint mad at him becuz barely anyone looks in general

I don't know how hiring developers will work out, seeing that if the developers don't like/own the device, it will really become a JOB to them(beside their real jobs) as compared to a hobby. And things COULD get messy when money and expectations are involved. (You know, how much are you gonna pay a developer to justify his/her time spent on working it and how great the ROM has to be for you guys to feel that your money is well-spent?)
Anyway, it's better to go for the more popular devices if you want to run custom ROMs. So you need to do a little research before buying it.
If video calling is your only concern, just buy a front-facing camera for your Vibrant online and install it yourself. It only costs about 30-40 bucks and it's really easy. Look up the video guides online.

Some clarification on this...
I posted here because this is where devs hang out.
Im not trying to hire devs...i know how hard they work and most of the time, the most they get is a thanks, but mostly just people telling them how much their kernel or rom sucks, when they know they couldnt make it themselves. It would be much different if it was the manufacturer that released crap, then you could complain because you paid for it. But these guys do it for free with hopes of donations, and I appreciate that.
Now as far as the FFC...i could have done that, however, my wife would have lost her mind with me doing that thinking I would f*ck something up...its hard enough with me flashing roms without her flipping out thinking im gonna brick my phone. Plus she wanted me to have a new toy before I deployed...
Hope that answered some of the questions that you guys had...let me know if you have more.

OP: Thank you for your service. If I had a device, I would be willing to help you out. It's very difficult to dev without hardware though. I don't expect people to buy me stuff though... Good luck getting things going. There just hasn't been a lot of community interest in the streak.

Thanks for the support guys. It really means alot. As for the people posting that have negative comments to post, I aint hating. I already seen that coming. Maybe its just me, but if you aint got nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all. I mean, they really took time out of their busy day to read my entire post, just to be a d#ck?
I already stated that this is not a post about a new mod, rom, or anything remotely dev-ish. You only had to read as far as the subject to get the general gist.
@ttabbal...thanks man, and I figured as much, but I also figured that if I didnt at least ask, then the answer would definately be a no, so I said what the hell and gave this post a shot. Jellette already gave some good feedback in the Streak 7 forum, but he is on the wall about getting one, the same reason I almost didnt get one...the wife has mucho say-so...lol. I also got a couple other devs PM me with input as well.

Nevermind...i was asking devs to help out, not argue. I got better things to do, like train all my Soldiers for this deployment so that they come home safe to their families. Its not just gonna be me deploying. Mothers and Fathers have entrusted me with their children's lives to make sure they come back safe. That is way more reason for me not to pick an internet argument.
Thanks all you supporters....just wish there was a way to get a dev on this at least to get a stable recovery on it. If I had recovery and a stock rom to flash back to, I would start deving myself.

Well guys, wish me luck. Im gonna port my new clockwork recovery image for my dell streak 7, as soon as I dump my image from my device since its not supported yet and no one is deving this yet. Im following the instructions koushik dutta left on his website and I am a somewhat advanced linux user, so I think I can get it. And pointers on this, please let me know.
Also, all you devs out there that would assist me, I would appreciate it. If I get this right without bricking my streak, I will be asking gor help on kernel and rom deving. I know none of you have it, but if you have tips and good places for me to read up on, I would appreciate it. People in this post are getting awful mad, so if you want, you can just PM me or post a topic in the dev section of the streak 7 forum, there arent flamers there...yet, and no one is a tattletale.

No...thats talking about porting CM7 to the 5" dell streak, and thats a different animal. It just got 2.1 released, and is only a single processor, and a ton other differences.

Developers Continuum Phone

Forgive my reposting this in general, but my forum noobness wont allow a user with< 10 posts to post on dev pages.
I have seen a range of 250-400 for the Continuum on Ebay. I am willing to donate up to $50 towards a dev phone if I can be assured that the dev will consistantly continue work on this phone. I know it has potential and I myself have started studying Android programming, been messing in SDK and have a running Eclair phone emulator on my PC, but I don't have the history with linux and android to make anything of it yet.
If I get a dev's word that they will keep up on this phone, count me in for 50 bones towards one. (plus further donations if anything usefull comes along afterwords)

I just "converted" to the Continuum after buying it from a mass auction on eBay. $220 with free shipping; phone seems mint. Look up "*MINT* VERIZON SAMSUNG i400."
However it's procured, I'm willing to pitch in a few bucks for it. It's a neat piece of machinery, and with some tinkering it could be awesome. Shame I'm too dumb to be a developer.

How to update STOCK 2.1 Evo to 2.3.3 WITHOUT Root?

Hello people! My friend has an Evo that is still on 2.1 and she wants to update to 2.3.3. The OTA isn't working (saying that there isn't an update) and when we called sprint tech support, they said that they would have to create a trouble ticket and go to the store. We called the closest store to her, and they are back up until tomorrow. I told her I could flash it manually (without rooting it)....but i should have kept my mouth shut, because I cannot find a normal 2.3.3. RUU, and am not sure if I should first up her to 2.2. then to 2.3 anyway (oops).
So now I'm on the hook, lol!
So, where can I find STOCK, NON ROOTED RUU's (I've checked the wiki)
And should I upgrade her to 2.2, then to 2.3?
Root is an option, I just didn't feel like doing it (I see Unrevoked would work for 2.1 still)

Seriously, when the EVO 3D and GS2 came out, did all the brains leave this forum? What part of "Stock, Unrooted" RUU is so difficult to comprehend....?

Then there are a couple teenagers like me, filling in for adults
HipKat, teh roxxorz, Lithid, dased14 (who mostly hangs out in Themes and Apps), and several others provide great help. They've answered plenty of my questions before.
Lithid did SalvageMod and Freedom kernel, dased14 makes dozens of flashable zips with themes and mods, HipKat and teh roxxorz have made guides for subjects of all sorts. Everyone has their own personalities though so its something to get used to.
Believe me when I say the Evo 4G forum is one of the better ones. I frequent basically every Sprint / Verizon phone forum and I cannot stand all of the whining and fights. We have a strong developing team and plenty of people qualified to answer questions.
I'm just here to fill in the cracks, my knowledge is limited. The forum is a bit confusing at times, but you'll get used to it. I'm here to keep the peace and help out as much as I can.

I actually have no problem helping people, it's just people like you who piss and moan and yell at the people trying to help when they don't get exactly what they need in the first response. If you don't like the answers we give you, feel free to go do it yourself. Think the 3D forums are so great? Go buy and 3D and hang out over there.

Only an RUU. An RUU is a .exe which wipes everything off your phone and returns the phone to bone HTC stock, that's all
