Call me stupid, but what improvements would it bring us?
That's some crazy ass upload speed you have sir. As far as improvements, The updated base Android UI should be something to look forward to in itself. I am sure as well as numerous speed and stability tweaks and enchancements. Here i found this on the web..
Confirmed new features:
Support for WebM video playback
Improved copy–paste functionalities
Improved social networking features
Unconfirmed new features:
Android Market music store
Media streaming from PC library
Revamped UI
Support for bigger screens with up to Wide XGA (1366×768) resolution
New 3D Games support including new Marketplace area for gaming
Use of mksh for /system/bin/sh
Support for video calls

Support for Google TV
If anyone esle has anything to add please feel free! I am curious to what else there may be...
Hehehe, thanks! That was on my office T1 connection.
as far as the improvements, those seem fairly decent. i didn't realize they were gonna do a UI refresh. time for some research!

Nope, not confusing anything. A T1 line is 1.544 megabits both down and up. His speedtest cap shows 61.19 megabits down and 47.3 megabits up.

Nah, that's looks about right for T1. Docsis 3 cable or a fiber optic connection could easily do speeds up in that range.

This gentleman speaks the truth.
T3/DS3 I'm sure they call it a t1 in his office because it is a Tier 1 network and they are ignorant (not calling them dumb or anything like that, just don't know any better, not meant to be an insult at all). Judging by the ping it is not docsis3 cable. Cable easily goes this fast finally, lol, but pings are much higher, 40's maybe.
oh yeah and on topic, WOOT for html5 video and images.
And woot for sense-like copying and pasting lol, not that we've been missing out.
Lol! you guys are all right. i'm thinking of our old connection. we just recently upgraded to a Cogent fiber line. My bad!

make counterstrike, world of warcraft, league of legends...diablo2? lol yeah. could only image 3ms latency on those.
... that speed test server is less than 50 mi away thats why his ping is 3 ms. they are prbly on a tier 2 connection thats why the ping is so low because it doesnt have to travel through 6 different dns pools to get to the speed test server

that was "back in the day." T1 is really just a name for a type of circuit. back then a T1 was 1.544Mbit, but these days they are faster.

When I test my speeds on speedtest (with the closest server), I get 120ms or so. And same ping on almost all COD servers.
So back on topic for a second when is gingerbread being released or at least the sdk
studies show that most computer errors are actually iD10t errors in over 90% of all cases.
So back to the topic, I been reading that we could see gingerbread as soon as Christmas. I just hope the update for the Evo won't be to far behind!! I'm also looking forward to Google releasing it's own OS without the other companies twiking the phones.

I missed it completely...and I've seen all the Hero's and Sprint products throughout the season.
hahaha! my favorite sprint moment on this seasons 24 was a few episodes back when Chloe pulled out the sprint 4G router and they held like a 15-20 second shot on it while she talked about how she could setup a seperate network with lightning fast speeds. such obviously product "whoring" it was just hilarious!

Gotcha!
I completely didn't notice the Evo on "24" last night. I do remember the mobile hotspot pitch they did a few episodes ago. The only time I've seen Sprint blatantly advertise the Evo, was on Oprah's "No Phone Zone" special ... and by "blatant" I mean, they zoomed in on the phone as she was showing people how to text in their pledges. The name was never mentioned but the did an extreme close-up of the phone and you could see the word "Evo" on the phone.
I will never understand why Sprint didn't use "Survivor" to promote the Evo. Sprint has some sort of marketing contract with the reality show "Survivor"...Survivor uses nothing but Sprint products and they endorse Sprint all the time. One of the episodes close to this seasons finale, they surprised the last group of castaways with video messages from home ... guess what phone they used???...a friggin' PALM PRE!!! They touted the hell out of that antiquated Pre. I couldn't believe it. That would have been the PERFECT opportunity for them to at least get some buzz surrounding the Evo. But, instead, they choose to try and boost some phone almost year old. FAIL!

Update 9/22/10: Our 30FPS Saga has finally come to an end. HTC has released an OTA that officially uncaps the evo! HOORAY! To all of you who have contacted Sprint and HTC: THANK YOU! It made a difference.
If you are unrooted, simply go look for the update under your phone's settings.
If you are rooted and want to keep root, head over to developer section and download one of the many ROMs available with the latest OTA 3.29.651.5 .
-------------
BREAKING Update 9/21/10: So after almost 4 months, it seems like HTC is finally set to release an update that will officially uncap our EVOs!
Can't reveal source - but here you go. Was sent to me a little bit ago.
Software Version: HTC - EVO 4G (A9292) - 3.29.651.5
Release Date: 9/22/2010
Update Method: Available OTA + Retail
Version History:
Calendar Event Edit Issue
Multiple Gmail Account Sync
30 FPS uncapped
GPS Reboot

The update will supposedly be released tomorrow. Will update this post when/if it happens.
Sources: SDX-Developers, PPCGeeks
-------------------------------
Update 6/14/10: Got a call from Dan Hesse's Office(CEO). Here's what happened:
1. Sprint has reached out to HTC about this issue. They acknowledge the problem and said they are working on a Firmware update that will address this. However, they could not give us an exact time frame.
2. The engineer at HTC encouraged us to go to HTC support and send emails to them about this issue so it gets more attention internally, and hopefully speed things up.
Also, I asked her to relay a message to Dan Hesse, Saying that this might not seem like a big deal at first, but it is in fact a huge one. Customers, especially those coming from an iPhone, expect their phones to "just work", and even if they don't notice it at first, that 30fps cap will get them frustrated at some point, and they will erroneously attribute it to developer, the phone or Sprint, hurting everyone in the process.
She also said Sprint wants this resolved, but they are pretty much at HTC's mercy right now.
Alright boys and girls, it's time to bother HTC!
Visit HTC support here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/e-mail
and send your Email to them.
At this time I would advise against sending "template" emails because once they start receiving several of the same they can just filter them out. Remember, they are a huge company, they have the tools. Speak with your heart this time.
=====================
Update 6/12/10: Check out the end of this post. Help us contact HTC and Sprint about this issue. Even if you don't own an Evo. HTC got away with it twice already. Let's at least make sure this issue is well known. Like a developer said:
This is like buying a brand new corvette and finding out it has a governor on it limiting it to 100 horsepower. If a car manufacturer did this, there would be a class action lawsuit instantaneously. Don't be shy guys, let the world know how you feel!

Update 6/11/10: I got a response from one of Sprint's executive team. He has asked the product team to investigate and will follow up with me afterwards. Will keep you guys posted.
HTC is capping all graphics , 2D AND 3D, at only 30fps max. This is having a negative impact on the responsiveness of the system in general, and for developers that rely on real time game development.
See this:
http://groups.google.com/group/andr.../1f0bd2cccc047ac3?show_docid=1f0bd2cccc047ac3
And this:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=8942 Please star the issue on that page so more people, and hopefully htc, will be aware of the problem.
I have also tested this app:
http://www.typhon4android.org/androidbugs/droid2dtest-21/
When I run the app, "Clock FPS" is trying to push 60fps but it is limited by the display at 30hz, only to show 30fps max.
This also explains why the evo 4g is consistently getting terrible graphics benchmark scores. The Nexus One, despite having the same processor and gpu, is not affected by this problem.
Is this ever going to be fixed?

No change with froyo... that's not good.
You say HTC is capping the framerate.. Is this a hardware cap, then? Meaning, do you see this on a rooted / custom rom? I'm using unrevoked for root, so I can't test..
Oh no. This is like the HTC tilt all over again with the graphics not living up to their potential.
Sent from my HTC Evo using tapatalk.
Could it have anything to do with the HDMI out? Maybe they're trying to sync to a framerate that their HDMI implementation can handle. Just guessing.
Well how fast can the screen refresh that's what the fps should be locked to

Sorry, I dont buy it. Nexus one does it with nary a hiccup, and it has the same exact resolution, processor and gpu.
I can also confirm it's not the LCD that's limited-- When you flash the experimental Froyo rom, the Nexus One-style "X" boot screen animation is clearly running at 60fps. So it looks like this is happening at boot.

NOOOO! funny you mention that - had a similiar issue when i was out in vegas - called tmo cause i couldn't believe vegas would have weak coverage - csr said to try turning phone off, wait a couple minutes and turning back on - and it worked

the download is good, however the upload speed is capped. My nexus one on ATT had similar download speeds as you point out but my upload speeds were typically 1200 - 1500 kbps (quite a bit higher than your example). Also, IIRC, the ping time was significantly lower on my nexus one than my Atrix.
A lot of people are complaining about slow upoad speeds; what you're seeing there.
ATT is somewhat throttling the upload a d as a result, the whole internet browsing experience slows down a little.

I was surprised the GPS couldn't get a speed lock, though- there were some 10 good satellites in view. Either it needs an internet connection (which I didn't think it would for speed, vs. mapping) or the logic figures you shouldn't be going > 99MPH and filters it out as a bad datapoint).
Somehow, I knew this was going to be about altitude.
What app is that?
sweet. Thanks for sharing. I've never been able to get gps lock in a plane with my phone, even by a window. That's cool that the Xoom can.

GPS Test. I just bought the paid version, too, since I use it on a couple of devices I have.
Ahah way to draw in the readers... that's pretty slick though!

I was surprised the GPS couldn't get a speed lock, though- there were some 10 good satellites in view. Either it needs an internet connection (which I didn't think it would for speed, vs. mapping) or the logic figures you shouldn't be going > 99MPH and filters it out as a bad datapoint).

Not all countries have speed limits like that In Germany you will get honked at if you go less than 99 MPH ha ha. It didn't work for me when I was on a plane though.

LOL!! same here.... good one OP.
I got a speed reading using Garmin on my old Nokia (Symbian) - something like 569mph
never altitude though... pretty cool! I'll try it next week ...

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of "throw out this data point if it's an outlier" (i.e., too high or even negative, due to errors in the received GPS data) for better reliability.
But since installing the Pro version, I see there's a setting for "Max Speed" which has an option for "Airplane" (600MPH), so it was apparently the GPS Test application just not working over 100MPH.
I'll try it again on my flight back home from work this week; stay tuned!
This is the way back to work tonight; I guess that's a pretty decent speed for a 737:

So the one showing the speed is the paid version and all works well? Is 600 the maximum speed it will handle? I'm not planning a supersonic flight (we no longer have Concorde) but it would be good to know!

Yeah, I guess that also explains the red numbering, too.

According to the Dev's docs, yeah- but I also wonder if some of that is due to the limitation of either the calculations or of even the GPS chip itself (the speed of the updates). But you're right- I think even a balls-out 747 is capable of only Mach .92 (~615 MPH) so I'm pretty sure we're gonna stay under that limit (unless we're on a long-haul craft trying to beat weather!)
Blah blah blah. All I wanna know is how you were still high after getting thru security.

i have got speed readings when i fly with mine (i'm a pilot) but you need a good 6 or 7 sats being used for your fix, not just "in view".

You must have the paid GPS Test (or another GPS app); in the first picture I had 10 sats being used for fixes (all "green bars") but the for-free app itself didn't support speeds > 100MPH (by design).
Didn't get speeds in-flight 'till I'd upgraded; that's what's being shown in the 2nd pic.
I loved this post. I had to show my friends this one and then let them read the details. Very good hook to get people to read.
