I put the phone on spilled beer. It quickly turned off and after 2 days it looks like this:
Is it possible to clear the display?
Something similar happened to me, allbeit without the beer, was in my pocket and got wet. Could still see and use the screen. After a few days the "blotcheness" cleared up, been fine since.
you should disassemble it and clean with electronics cleaner or isopropyl alcohol ..

As easy as that eh? Try not to destroy your bonded LCD and touch screen layers in the process....

So I posted about a week ago about my hd2 getting water in it and drying it out with silica gel. It's been a week and the water has dried out about 95% and looks pretty good. I do have a question though (if anybody has any ideas or insights, that would be awesome)...
The screen is looking good but when I load Opera or YouTube (any screen really that is mostly white) I can see light brown striations in the bottom right corner. Could this be water residue? The "water" was actually solution from Invisible Shield so there are probably other things in the solution besides water. Is it some sort of dried out residue that is causing the striations, or is my screen just partially damaged/discolored?
I read that soaking the phone in alcohol will clear out water/residue from water and was wondering if it will work? Anybody who has done it before? Does anybody know if it will "wash out" the residue causing the striations? Thanks in advance. I'd really appreciate any insight!

Yep. Alcohol got it off but now there's more residue elsewhere -.-
I'm going to open it up in a few days when the repair kit comes thru the mail. Oh my...hopefully I won't kill the phone completely.

I dropped my Kaiser in the bathtub (thanks to my overzealous 2yo tossing it at me when it rang) and immediately pulled the battery. I let it sit out overnight in a bed of rice, but the keyboard still had some moisture in it the next day.
I have some dielectric fluid for various projects and decided to give that a shot, since water will float to the surface of any mineral oil-based fluid. It sat there for about an hour.
When I finally got the nerve to turn it on, the screen was very dark and didn't make it past the first bootscreen. I pulled out the keyboard to find that the fluid had stripped the adhesive from the keyboard lining. Now the phone is another toy for my child
Just Curious: How did the fluid get inside the phone? Did you not follow Zagg's directions?

there was fluid on the counter and I didn't realize it. It seeped in from the back where there were gaps. I used to have an iPhone and that never happened cuz there were no gaps for water to get in especially in such little amounts. I've put 3 zaggs on 3 different iDevices in the exact same manner and they never got water inside.

i'm a little late for an answer but the same happened to me just today. i removed the first protector and installed the second one and the glass cleaner (i didnt use water, just a glass cleaner that is self drying) got under the screen. i see a big shade that is getting bigger by the hour and i dont know why. i see it very clearly when the screen is showing something white. I' m hopping for now that it will go away.
Also i would like to say that there are some spray canister for that job. to remove the moister from electronic devices. the local dealer of nch corporation demonstrated me once a product like that and i was very sattisfied. So if the moister persist i will try that.
The problem with LCD screens is all the layers of material inside them, once you get moisture, residue, dirt inside an LCD its likely wrecked forever. I mean the LCD will still work but you'll probably never get the discolorations to go away. I have pulled apart a few backlit LCDs myself. Typically you have the LCD panel on top, 2 light diffusing layers, a "lightpipe" that takes the light from LEDs or CCFL tube at the edge of the screen and evenly distributes, and then a silver or white layer backing the whole thing.
Your only true chance to restore the LCD to original, would be to completely disassemble it, separating all the layers and then cleaning each layer back and front with a good cleaner, lint free microfiber cloth, and then try to reassemble the whole thing without getting fingerprints and dust from the air inside. It can be done. but its really not worth it when you can just pickup a LCD module off ebay.

Just wanted to post this, as it really surprised me.
I went to a swim the other day (about 2 weeks ago) and forgot, that I had my HD2 in my Pocket.
It was about 0.5 hrs under water. Afterwards I yelled... then took out the battery and tried to dry it with a hairdryer.
It did not help. It stayed dead (The paper indicator are in a bright pink now)
Then about 1 week later I finally found the time to buy a new battery. I put it in and then... it worked.
After about 5 or 6 hrs using time, the last bit of water in the screen (a nice 3D effect ;-) dryed and I have absolutely no difference whatsoever. Working like a charm, no problem.

If you get your phone wet don't use a hair dryer to dry it coz it overheats metal parts so the circuits melt.

The best thing you can do with a phone that has been for a swim (completely submerged in water) is to pull the battery off and soak it in isopropyl for 30 min or so. This should get the water out of it. Then leave it out to dry until completely dry.
Iven if a wet phone works initially, it generally wont be long before the components begin to corrode. The isophopyl will drive out any water and then completely evaporate.

Even better, since this phone already soaked for half an hour, with the battery out soak and then flush it well with distilled water to remove all the minerals that could cause corrosion, then stick it in a container of desiccant or rice if you're cheap
Alcohol especially soaked that long could be harsh on adhesives, surfaces and components in the phone.
Water itself isnt bad for electronics, its the minerals that are in the average tap, pool, beach, lake water. Distilled water has none of these minerals. Also any liquid tends to damage things like the camera and LCDs where it can get between the glass covering and LCD and backlight causing water spots to develop that are hard are just about impossible to remove.
If you do go the isopropyl route, id say do a very quick flush with it, and then make sure you are using 90%, usually in a red labeled bottle at the drug store, normal isopropyl is something like 65% alcohol and the remainder is water!
Really the best option for either route is to completely disassemble the phone then flush and dry while disassembled, but i know thats hard for some people to do without completely damaging it cosmetically. Remove things like the LCD, Camera, and speakers as these could be further damaged by subsequent soakings in either water or alcohol. These parts may need to be completely replaced depending on the existing damage

and distilled water won't screw up your device? so lets say, if I want to clean my screen randomly, I should use that?
So the other day I was at work & I had a cup of hot cocoa. As I took a sip, a single drop fell onto my HD2, right on the buttons. There's no damage that I can notice, the buttons still work just fine, but they stick a little now. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could clean them? Ugh this is so annoying.
If something like this would happen to me I would clean it with cotton wool on a stick (no translation found ).
Drain the wool in water or a solvent and carefully try cleaning.
Hopefully this will work.

The problem is that it's actually down IN the buttons where I can't get to it. I heard somewhere that alcohol is safe to use in situations like this, that it won't fry electronics or cause damage.

whatever you decide to use I would remove the battery first, clean as much as you can and then let it sit for like overnight at least before using it to make sure it's dry. I personally would probably use rubbing alcohol on an old t shirt, just enough to be wet without dripping, and dob at the area gently and try not to get it too wet. good luck.
Hey guys im new and i had a question about keeping my nexus 4 clean. So when i got my nexus 4 i kept it naked without a screen protector or case for a bit, but i decided to buy a full body xtremeguard screen protector, which was actually only 6 dollars. It arrived and i tried putting them on the next day. They were wet installation which i didnt really like. I had to use a bowl of handsoap and water. So I installed them and tried to accelerate the drying process a little by using a blow dryer, but guess what, it really made the beautiful screen look all ugly and disoriented so i took them off and decided to keep it the way. I applied a little more water to the glass to get all the soapy residue off and dried it off a little more. The next day I noticed that when i held it in sunlight I noticed this white stuff inside the crevices in between the glass and the edges of the phone. SO whats bothering me is that i think its dried soap in there from the installation and blow drying it only made it worse. But wheat really gets me ticked off is that i wanted to keep my phone perfect and clean but that stuff is still in there and i dont know how to get it out. Its just killing me. Ive tried water, q tips, even scraping it out with printer paper but no luck. Can anyone give me ideas or help plz?? thx. Im sorry if this a long post

Guessing you didn't find the threads on xtremeguard accessories sections. There are 70-80%off coupons. There you would have found out they are wet install.. And would have known that they get better if left alone to dry thoroughly in 24-48hours.
I guess it's lucky you didn't over do the hair dryer and ended up with a physically damaged unit. Mainly the mic and ear piece stop working right.
You obviously used too much soap in your solution. You can take your time and get it cleaned up again. I'd be careful not to reallly scratch up the screen wiping with a cloth that collected silica dust..
a q-tip and a little rubbing alcohol should help.

Use a toothpick and a vacuum. BUT I would recommend you just leave it be. Than risk making it worse I.e. your exp with the protector..
So my lg v20 took a dive into some water. Now it boots up but I have no touch screen response. Also when I turn the screen off then back ok again I only get a faint back lighting. I've replaced the screen and digitizer and factory reset with no luck. Any help?
I'm afraid you'll have to do more than just replace the screen and digitizer...
there are probably dry water residues all over your mobo circuits too... which cause malfunctions at best, but soon could end killing your device for good.
you should send it for repair... personally with old electric stuff I would take it apart, piece by piece, and wash it with isopropyl alcohol (if it's jsut water), but again, this isn't something I would do on a new device, actually I have never tried it on a smartphone...
I'm afraid you will have to ask some professional to fix it

This guy gets it. Just get an eyeglass kit from a dollar store, the screws on the back of our device are phillips theres 20 something of them. Watch a tear down video and take it apart and buy the purest isopropyl you can and wipe it down. My cats knocked water all over my girlfriends mouse and i took it apart and cleaned it and let it dry for a day or two and its sort of functioning, 100% at times and others at 60%. Good luck mate. Try telling LG its bootloop issues ;P
