if you pray at nights when it is full moon, in the morning you will see android market installed.

a simple no would be nice... i just thought there exists a way to install it manually

Erunestaron, do you have root? If so, you should be able to do this easily by just installing the google apps via recovery. I'm not sure if they're the same across all models, but if they are, and you can't find them, let me know, I have the froyo ones for the incredible.

You should be able to install gapps from the recovery. Don't know where or even if they exist for that ROM, check out the site where you got the ROM and look around for gapps or something

Do I need to root to flash the Hero Rom?

I was watching a YouTube vid and someone said that you do not need to root the Magic in order to put the Hero Rom on the phone.
I just got my unlocked (AT&T) Rogers Magic and I was wondering if this is indeed correct?
I wonder that to, please someone give us an answer

It is my understanding that it is the rom that is rooted. Not the device.
So if you flash a Hero rom that has been rooted then you will have root. If you flash a rom (such as the original you should have backed up will nandroid) that hasn't been rooted then you will not have root.
Hope that helps
P.s some one correct me if I am wrong, that is how it has worked for me.
A better question would be why wouldn't you want to root? No, really. If your going through the trouble of flashing why not root? If you don't you can't get paid apps on the Rogers Magic, not sure on other brands but the Rogers phone does not allow paid apps stock. I had to root and install market enabler to buy apps. It just makes sense if our going that far anyway.

Good point. I went ahead and attempted to root, but at the point where I'm at fastboot mode and "fastboot boot recovery.img" instead of just saying "downloading" it just says "waiting for device". Any thoughts about what that means? The update.zip is on my sd card and the image is in my tools directory.
Are you sure your usb drivers installed properly? What OS are you running? If it's XP some people have had trouble getting the drivers to play nice, I didn't have any problems but some have. Here's the guide I used, about as easy as it gets. Just make sure the first steps work before moving on is about all i can say I'm brand new to this as well. Hope that helps you some.

Newb question
Hi.
I'm winmo user. Planning to buy HTC Magic next week. So i'm now advance reading topics about Android, HTC Magic in particular.
My questions are, 1) what is ROOT? and 2) how to install apps? I've seen files with .apk extension.
Thanks in advance.

Rooting is pretty much the equivalent of "jailbreaking" an ipod touch. It alows you to gain access that wouldn't otherwise be available from the vanilla google os. (ie tethering, running and storing apps from sd card, moving various caches from the browser and other apps to the sd to save space...etc)
What do you mean about installing apps? There is an app store the "android market" where you can search from many apps and just seamlessly install them to your phone (or sd card if you root).

Root G1 + Keep latest Market and other propierty apps?

Hi there.
I recently had to unroot my phone as I lost all my apps and no other method I could find will let me have the latest Market and other apps. (Did look in Slideme but it didn't have ANY of the apps I use).
Anyway, I read that I need to downgrade to cupcake to root it, hence by doing that I will also be forced to downgrade market etc.
Anyway I get to keep these apps?
Cheers (BTW I'm from UK)

I'm thinking someone forgot to flash the htc recovery image.
Anyways, root, flash htc recovery image, flash cyanogen, post in the right section, bingo.
gonna get flamed cause you posted in the wrong section. but I'm assuming you didnt follow directions and didn't flash the defranged zip file before flashing tcyanogen or duper D rom's... http://dx.infernix.net/DRC83_base_defanged.zip
You will have the latest market after rooting...if that is your question.

when you root your phone, you can then flash a 'modified rom' this keeps root and also enables more features/speed improvements. If your looking for a stock rom but with root download Enom's TheOfficials T-mobile UK. Its basically the latest t-mobile G1 Rom but with root and with working market and all apps. If your more adventurous try SuperCDSIv4 from HTCClays, its extremely fast. Using right now with T-mobile UK and i get all apps. I did have to download MarketEnabler 3.0.8 and change my sim operator number to 23430 (t-mobile uk) as i couldnt see beebplayer, but after changing i can see that now. All apps working.

Thank you! And firstly thank you for not moaning at wrong section (I was confused between this and the other one)
Anyway I have rooted the G1 (gone back to old version, done the telenet lot and installed the recovery image (armons one), I also installed HardSPL. But I cannot find the Enoms images, could you please point me in the right direction so I can get to the latest Dounut and get the market, as If I was to update straight to Cyanogen now I would get the market

Yes you would man....You flash a rom that just has the google apps first and then without rebooting flash the rom of choice on top of it...Super D and Cyanogen both are like this....Most others are not.
For real....Flash the defanged base... LINK RIGHT HERE http://dx.infernix.net/DRC83_base_defanged.zip
and then flash this http://www.benbuchacher.com/superD/2010/03/24/superd-1-10-2
Lol that will get you Super D Black with nexus themed launcher and THE LATEST MARKET.
I also recommend Amon Ra's Recovery image 1.6.2 prior to flashing a new rom.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669&highlight=Sense
Also might wanna flash the Danger SPL. Or use fire rats script. Either way, you have a lot of catching up with the current times....read the cyanogen wiki....lots of info there.
I might sound stupid but what is the difference between Amon_Ra's recovery and Cyanogen's recovery image?

Cyanogen -- Oldie but a goodie.
Amon_Ra -- New with more functionality.
You could also just search and read up on them.

htc hero with no android market

Hey guys,
If you guys have a HTC HERO that didn't come with android market then you have to Flash your phone and get a Custom ROM. The custom rom will give you your android market. I'm not sure but don't update your HTC Hero to the 2.1 because you need Root access and 2.1 doesn't give you root access thats what i heard. Well you can Update your phone to 2.1 and hope that the 2.1 will give you android market but i wouldn't take that risk.
Well i hope this help's
Thank You and have a Great Day

Do some carriers actually disable Market access?
Yes, well for my htc hero it did.
Heroes manufactured for East Asia (I think) do not have the market. I had the same problem and for a while I solved it by installing Slide me & SAM, but there were far too few applications available and that's the main reason I decided to root and instal a custom rom.

I am thinking about buying this phone butt I have a few simple Q's

Hello I would like to buy this phone because it looks pretty.
I was doing some research and found that att blocked custom apps, so I wonder is there a way around this? I have never had a droid only Windows Mobile. Would I be able to upgrade to 2.2 and newer ones in the future?
That is all, thank you all and have a nice day.
you can root your phone then do i side loader mode to use all the apps u want

You don't need to do anything special to sideload apps. Just download the android sdk from developer.android.com and use the 'adb' tool to install the programs with the 'adb install <filename>' command. The new version of HTC Sync also lets you install 3rd party non-market apps with a nice graphical interface.
The Aria will get an official 2.2 update in the future. If you don't want to wait for it, you can root the phone, then flash the custom 2.2 rom that's floating around. I have not checked on the progress of it recently, but to my knowledge, it isn't fully functional yet (wifi not work properly).
Alright guys thanks for your help. I just ordered it of Amazon for 50.00 bucks.

Be careful if you are rooted...
Since this RUU is a full update, it will wipe your phone and you will lose root. It will also flash a new HBOOT loader which will probably not allow you to regain root.

CORRECT! I know I've said this before but it would awesome if someone could remove all the bloatware. This way we would have Liberated FR008 but without the bug in the weather widget (regardless to what some user may say, it is annoying). In other words: We'd have Perfection
the HTC sever is slow, Im on a 20meg connection getting 16kb do you think that the update will really unroot the device?

YES! So if you want to keep your phone rooted do not install this. Just wait untill someone can extract the rom and make it flashable though Clockwork Recovery. Knowing the developers on this site is not going to take longer than a week.
No Apps2sd? No live wallpapers? pls reply.
Might just stay with the rooted rom

You are now in the same boat as the Asian Arias and European Gratias. There has been no exploit found on the current HBOOT loader for those that have taken the Froyo 2.2 update, so a permanent rooting solution is not possible. You might be able to get temp root using ZRoot.
So... there's hard evidence that this contains the same HBOOT? Or are we just assuming that it contains the same?
I'm not downlplaying what has been said over this update, and I was definitely not planning to update (since I'm running CM7 anyway), was just being curious.
I updated my Aria today and I have two questions
1) Froyo was supposed open up the LED API's right that way it would allow us to change the color through third party apps, how come I still can't do that even after I disable the notifications is settings like the app instructs me to?
2) The Facebook app for android is supposed to have push notifications for android 2.2 and above devices, how come I'm still not receiving these notifications?

In examining the ROM.zip file in the RUU, the HBOOT loader is now version 1.02. The original Aria HBOOT loader is 0.57. I just found an old post that stated the Gratia had HBOOT 1.01 and I believe that the Asian Arias that have taken the Froyo 2.2 OTA were updated to HBOOT 1.0x. So that my evidence and conclusion.

OK, I came across this thread post by attn1 on the Asian Aria upgrade thread. On it he thought that it might be possible to run the original Aria RUU with a gold card to restore back to an older version and possible restore your root.
