It's been well over 30 moinutes and it's still restoring. I've restored nandroid before but they have never taken this long. I am Amon recovery (not Clockwork). The white dotes are still being generated on my phone, so it appears to be doing something.
I hate to pull the battery for fear of messing something up.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance
If you do a battery pull you should still have recovery so you can always try nandroid again or just flash a new rom.
Personally, I'd have probably pulled the battery by now.
This happened to me and I had to pull the battery and start completely over so hopefully u backed up ur apps :/
Yeah this has happened to me... I just pulled the battery, wiped and restored whatever I was restoring then it worked

I rooted my phone a few days back and put Fresh's rooted stock ROM on it. Aside from removing some Sprint crapware, I didn't do much rootish to the phone. It's been acting strangely (battery life sucked, kept rebooting back to the 4g screen when idle, etc.). So this morning, I backed up with NANDROID, wiped, and installed the DamageControl ROM. I just tried to unyaffs data.img, but there's no data folder in there. The IMG is only 50MB. I tried restoring it, but it looks wiped.
So, I've lost a few days worth of data (which sucks, since the main reason I like restoring data is to get my bike logs back, and I went on some great rides yesterday). I'm pretty sure I didn't wipe before backing up.
My SD card was acting strangely this morning. (It went from 0KB available to 1+GB available. I did delete some files to get space back, but it didn't go immediately give me any space back, and I would be surprised if I had used exactly the capacity of the disk). I don't know how full my SD card actually was when I ran NANDROID or if it somehow ran out of room during the backup. I'm using Amon_RA's recovery.
I realize my data is gone forever, which sucks but it's just a phone. I'm only sharing this here in case anyone finds it helpful.
Sounds like your SD card was corrupted.

Well that's…fun. Do I need to worry about further data loss in the future?
I would reformat to be on the safe side.

Had this same thing happen to me last night. In my case there just wasnt enough room on the SD card to comeplete the nandroid backup, so wen i went to restore it, it tried then put me into a boot loop for a good hour. (I wasnt sure if the new rom was settting up for bootlooping so i let it) It just took a button press to get to recovery then reflash to fix.
ok, I have had both the two versions of 2.2 on my phone and I love froyo but in both cases I can not tap on a photo and share it through email. I found a thread with another gmail.apk and I adb pushed it and cleared the program but nothing seems to work. I must have my gmail working. So does anyone know how to fix it or hot to get 2.1 back?
currently:
2.2
Baseband:
2.05.00.06.11

I'm guessing you didn't make a nandroid backup before flashing, right?

No I did, do I just boot in to recovery and then restore?

Nandroid Backups are not always helpful. I had done a complete Nandroid backup of my 2.1 before I installed 2.2.. and when I wanted to go back.. I wiped 2.2 first and then tried to load from the nandroid backup. the backup worked.. but it was extremely buggy.. kept rebooting and freezing all the time.
Fortunately, the latest 2.2 that came out a couple of days ago worked well for me.

The only reason I went back to 2.1 is because both of the 2.2's i loaded would not let me send pictures through email. I loaded different Gmail.apk's and nothing would fix the problem, I loved 2.2 but cant live with out a working Gmail.apk
I started today trying to format my 2.1 rooted over to 2.2 and at some point in time have just trashed my phone. Then completely wiped/factory reset my phone. So I am sitting here and every 5 minutes or so the phone will just pop up the HTC quietly brilliant screen and it is insanely slow and barely loads anything. What can I do to just start over fresh?
It also tells me I have no service and I cant make a call to any # at all or even attempt to. So something is obviously up with the radio.
so you are rooted, right? You can get into recovery? Did you make a nandroid?

My guess the answer would be "no."
Download one of the stable ROMs...Virtuous or Skyraider will work...reboot into recovery...wipe and reset everything, including the Dalvik cache and battery stats, then load the ROM.
When you get that ROM set up the way you like, boot into recovery and DO A FRIGGIN' NANDROID BACKUP.
The next time you want to **** with your phone, REBOOT INTO RECOVERY AND DO A FRIGGIN' NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!
So long as you can reboot into recovery, a Nandroid backup will take your phone back to the state it was when you did that backup.
Haha, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt

He has a thread in the QA section which I told him to run the 2.2 ruu. He then did ran into this issue and I've asked him a few questions which he has yet to answer ...
I have a feeling when he was rooted on 2.1 he made some changes to the phone that a simple RUU would not fix as I bet it expected everything else to be normal.
So I turned off my phone for the night, just to wake up in the morning, turn it back on and it hung on bootscreen. The phone restarted perfectly a few times but for some reason I keep having problems with this ROM. I'm using the compiled Clockwordmod recovery v.3.1.0.1 but I cant get this to work perfectly for a week without problems. Anything I can do to fix it? (Had to restore a previous backup.)
you need to have S OFF to use this kind of rom.
also make sure you do a full wipe including the battery stats
My phone is s-off but thanks for telling me the tip.

Randomly wiping battery stats probably isn't a good idea...
OP, really not sure what the issue could be. I'm not very familiar with the ROM and don't know of any known issues.
i have this on my g2 and I have no problems. have you tried reflashing?
This has been happening to me occasionally but mostly when trying to boot into recovery post CWM update.

Nah, just gave up on it and moved to CM7 nightly.
I was trying to update my radio and also wipe the EFS partion and I installed superwipe+ and when it rebooted it's now stuck at the HTC white screen and that's it. WHAT DO I DO???
EDIT: upon calming down a little, I managed to boot it into recovery. From here should I just reboot or should I restore one of my backups?
Reinstall a backup or reflash your rom. Make sure your superwipe is correct. If you have a rom that uses ext3 only and use the ext4 superwipe you will freeze at that screen.
Thank you, the backup worked. That's the last time I do anything before I understand it 100 percent completely. I've managed to update my radio and also successfully wiped EFS without screwing anything else up.

lol, you think the rest of us wait til we know something 100%? NO. or nothing would ever get done. it's how we learn. Don't swear off trying stuff you don't know 100%. (and get the insurance on your phone...)
Id say u superwiped and didnt flash a rom after. Superwiping wipes everything including your rom...by your description it sounds as if u didnt know that.
